181  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 14, 2016, 12:05:45 AM
Lets think about it in another way as "Zimmah" did here.

What do you think ?

I agree with the principal of that commentary but in practice the "limited supply" aspect is not quite true because Bitcoin will be levered. Any limited supply asset base is always levered in order to meet liquidity requirements in its derivative markets. If the banks don't do it, the free market will in order to achieve price stability in certain trading sectors.

Despite that, the fact that Bitcoin is an electronic "bearer" token means it is more accessible to the ordinary holder so its easier for people who actually want to hold the base asset to do so.

I have never experienced an all time high rally before, and half the forum members probably joined after the last one. The bullish emotions sweeping through the forum are infectious and could become the biggest driving factor for the price. Zimmah's prediction could be made a reality by those emotions despite any other factors.
182  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the price for January 1, 2017 on: June 13, 2016, 10:14:19 PM
I'm going for $5000, it will probably go higher but have a correction back down to $5000 by January 1, 2017. I'm probably being too bearish though, and one of the higher guesses will be right.
183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 13, 2016, 09:50:42 PM
Invisible buy wall at 685 on finex.
Should be interesting to see if we pullback at all or hold for more moon after whoever is filling their boots is happy to go up again.

Good call, i noticed that someone was putting up good size walls all the way down during the mini dump. Bid size was thin so that BTC10k sell should've brought us down to low 600s without those buy walls. Think we got a bull lurking around setting the floor

How do you find out if there's an invisible buy wall on finex if it's invisible on the order books? Can you post a link to wherever you find out about those invisible orders please?
184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DOGE] Price Speculation Thread on: June 13, 2016, 07:41:24 PM
The alts will probably pump after bitcoin hits a new high. Doge could be a good buy after bitcoin peaks, but I'm not sure what it will do before that.

2 workers on tekyboy pool ,where did you get win wallet i don't see any link.

the source is there, just not compiled for windows
which personally i don't find fair for those who can't do it themselves, but meh not my coin ;p

So ninja and no wallet -great fair start ,thx dev  Angry
Our team is working on compiling the windows wallet. I am linux. If you beat him to it I will give whoever can compile it a bounty.

How much is the bounty worth? Nobody will take up your offer for a tiny bounty, but for a big one you will get dozens of offers to help. Developers need to know they are getting a good incentive to help out.
186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: June 13, 2016, 07:13:08 PM
dont trade on bloombit.net. their lisk withdrawal engine giving fake id. becareful.

BloomBit's trading at the lowest prices and the 5th lowest volume. You can get better prices on Poloniex and nor risk getting ripped off. BloomBit's not worth trading on with its iffy withdrawal engine.

We're finally back to normal $10 range spread between Asia and west, this one was overdue, $60 spread was crazy

The spreads between different exchanges in the west was getting crazy. It wasn't as crazy as the spread between Asia and west, but it was getting massive. The bots must have cleaned up from it.
188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LISK] Lisk | ICO | Decentralized Application & Sidechain Platform on: February 21, 2016, 04:07:38 AM
Axel Hellinger joins Lisk as Legal Adviser

Starting a crypto-currency and decentralized startup, requires serious legal assistance, in order to operate on a legitimate basis. Axel Hellinger, a lawyer with 10 years of practice, who owns a well established firm Kanzlei Hellinger, will help Lisk to create a strong legal foundation, upon which to base our operations.

Read the whole announcement on our blog

You can also find him here on Bitcointalk, his username is iudica. We already have updated our team page.

That puts Lisk on the same level as ethereum which also has a legal adviser. Dodgy IPOs don't have legal advisers or devs with known identities. The Lisk IPO is professionally managed with full transparency by a team with professional qualifications and known identities.

Wow this is so dull I had to go the casino and got much better action in the poker room playing 2/5 holdem.

While you were away we had long stretches that were so dull that nobody except chartbuddy posted here for days. It was so dull people lost the will to post occasional tumbleweed pictures.
190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paul Sztorc's "Blockchain for Dummies" is great read. Finished it in one sitting on: December 19, 2015, 11:24:13 AM
Is it one of those well known brand name "for dummies" books with the yellow cover, and published by the same company that's done hundreds of others?

That link doesn't look like it's for a brand name "for dummies book", and it's slightly cheeky of the author to use the "for dummies" idea if his book's nothing to do with the brand.

Anybody think we won't ever see sub-350 again? Adam?  Cheesy

we will see 350 again twice, once on the way down to 333 and one last time on the way up to 500  Grin

Remember this post stating we will NEVER go back under 460 after we crossed it?

once we cross 460 we will NEVER go back there again.

How often did I read this  Smiley

I'm not convinced by any posts saying we can never go below a particular target ever again. Especially when the target is less than $10 below the price. Yes there are extreme cases where it applies like we will NEVER go back under $1, but that's different.
192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gemini's launch and impact on Bitcoin price on: October 09, 2015, 11:17:19 AM
Has trading been stopped for the last 11 hours on Gemini, or have there just been o trades made? I can't find any trades for the last 11 hours. It must be open 24 hours a day because all the other exchanges are, and it couldn't compete if it didn't do the same. I looked on the Gemini twitter and it says nothing about a halt in trading.
193  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 09, 2015, 10:50:56 AM
In to stop a ChartBuddy kill streak Grin;D

Chartbuddy lol Smiley How to get to eventual "LEGENDARY STATUS" without anyone really showing up! (Chart Buddy ----=====> 'soon to be Skynet" Smiley

Indeed. To bad he just got very bad quality posts, only <75 characters.

Do you think he would get banned for sig + spam if he joined a signature campaign? He makes 168 posts every week and money from a signature campaign would help to pay for the rent of his server. One of the campaigns might make an exception for his very bad quality posts because he is providing a service.
194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BQC] BBQ Coin! on: June 26, 2015, 10:26:53 AM
If you are going to update/change the code, you should make it able to be merged mined, so miners need not switch coins at all, just sit tight 24/7 mining all the scrypt coins that can be merge-mined...

-MarkM-

The website says there is no developer at present, but they do not intend to alter the BBQcoin wallet at all. However, it's not clear who runs the website. If someone wants to update the code and the miners agree to the changes I doubt the people behind the website can do much to stop it.

http://bbqcoin.org/

Quote
It has survived a major attack not soon after release, been brought back from obscurity by a developer known as CaptChadd who then stepped down as another developer, BigDaub promised many great things for this impressive coin but for whatever reason disappeared leaving BBQcoin without any form of Development or support.

Even though we now run this website, it is not our objective to alter the BBQcoin client in anyway, unless requested to by the BQC community, as we feel that the coin has lasted this long so why fix what is not broken.

195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dump-Proof Coin? on: June 26, 2015, 10:08:43 AM
You are wrong about one thing "buyers are not going to sell below what they paid".

Indeed it is an everyday occurrence for two reasons.   One it is better to lose 10%-30%% of your principle than to lose 50% or more.  Second - people who want to gobble up a large percentage of a coin will purposely dump down the price, so they can acquire for cheaper, and sometimes will even borrow to do this (see shorting).

The only time you see prices go up for anything is generally the "Greater Fool Theory", meaning the person who wants a stock or a coin so bad that they'll continuously pay higher prices even though it's not necessarily in their interest to do so

There were NXT clone IPOs that people bought into where the coin never made it onto a decent exchange.  Everyone paid a fixed price that nobody would dump below, according to the OP's logic. However, nobody got the chance to dump serious quantities of coins because the IPO coins never got onto an exchange with decent volume. Now the IPO investors are stuck with coins nobody wants.
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Richlist links for Altcoins on: June 25, 2015, 11:52:51 PM
One thing to keep in mind while researching this subject is that many of the top wallets are cold storage addresses controlled by exchanges.

I think Cryptsy might hold the record for controlling the largest number of top wallets.

Bittrex gives a distribution page of the top 50 balances for each coin held on the exchange. It probably doesn't include their own cold wallets though. You could probably add up all the balances to work out how much was stored on Bittrex in cold storage and look for a rich list wallet holding roughly that amount. I don't think Cryptsy gives out the same information as Bittrex, so it's no good for working out which top wallets are Cryptsy's.
197  Economy / Speculation / Re: ETA for the ETF? (and Gemini Exchange speculation) on: June 25, 2015, 11:41:44 PM
Judging from their latest instagram post I don't think Gemini is about to launch any time soon. They're too busy posting this cheesy crap:

I think you're right about that.

Also if their cheesy crap they posted was correct then how did Mark Zuckerberg's one mind beat their two combined minds in the fight over Facebook?

As soon as they have an inkling of when Gemini might open I'm sure it will be all over the internet. They probably don't know when it's opening themselves yet.
198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happenend to Ethereum? on: June 25, 2015, 11:31:08 PM

Goldman + Muppets == Ethereum

Your glitter guy post reminded me of this piece of work someone did when the Ethereum IPO was on. I'm not saying Ethereum was originally intended to be a blatant scam, but it's beginning to look worse and worse after each new delay to the project. It will be interesting to see if the end result was worth investing in.

199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who Is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: June 24, 2015, 12:09:48 AM
Which option would be best for Bitcoin?
Which option would be the worst for Bitcoin?
Which option is the most likely?
Which option is the least likely?

  • The creator of Bitcoin is never known.  The early Bitcoins remain untouched
  • The creator of Bitcoin is never known.  The early Bitcoins are eventually used in transactions
  • The creator of Bitcoin is self-identified while he is alive (by producing a statement and proof)
  • The creator of Bitcoin is self-identified after he has died (by him leaving a manifesto and proof)
  • The creator of Bitcoin is involuntarily identified while he is alive
  • The creator of Bitcoin is involuntarily identified after he has died

Your questionaire is incomplete IMO.
List options 3-6 make no mention of Satoshi's Bitcoins.

So, so far I got this:

Which option would be best for Bitcoin?
The creator of Bitcoin is never known.  The early Bitcoins remain untouched

Which option would be the worst for Bitcoin?
The creator of Bitcoin is self-identified while he is alive (by producing a statement and proof)

Which option is the most likely?
The creator of Bitcoin is involuntarily identified after he has died

Which option is the least likely?
The creator of Bitcoin is never known.  The early Bitcoins are eventually used in transactions

Interesting!  Here are my answers:

Which option would be best for Bitcoin?
The creator of Bitcoin is self-identified after he has died (by him leaving a manifesto and proof)

Which option would be the worst for Bitcoin?
The creator of Bitcoin is never known.  The early Bitcoins are eventually used in transactions

Which option is the most likely?
The creator of Bitcoin is involuntarily identified after he has died

Which option is the least likely?
The creator of Bitcoin is self-identified while he is alive (by producing a statement and proof)

I think it's not likely that he will get indetified after Satoshi dies. He's too smart to leave cues. Only if he wants to do that, it will happen.Which means he would need to plan it, which means if he dies in a sudden accident he would never be able to disclose the information and the mystery would never be solved (I doubt he would trust anyone to disclose the information for him in case that happens).

He's obviously skilled at coding and could set up a web server with a time delay mechanism timed to release proof of his identity five years after his last login to it. If he had an accident it would reveal his identity five years after his death. He wouldn't have to trust anyone and could obfuscate the code on the server to prevent anyone with access to it discovering his identity.
200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Didn't Satoshi Think About Instant Transactions? on: June 23, 2015, 11:09:14 PM
I read somewhere(cant remember now) that Crypto 2.0 has instant transactions like stellar, ripple that's why bitcoin should be updated to 2.0

Stellar had a flawed consensus protocol that led to a fork. It was temporarily resolved by running the whole Stellar network on a single verifying node, which is not decentralized. Stellar and Ripple have not been tested as long as Bitcoin and can only prove they are as reliable by running for years without problems.

http://www.coindesk.com/stability-questions-dog-ripple-protocol-stellar-fork/

Can bitcoin be updated like stellar and ripple (stellar it's like ripple as it use almost all things that ripple use)

It would no longer be decentralized if it was updated to be like Stellar. I think a single verifying node is still running the whole Stellar network because of the fork. A government could switch off the server hosting that node and close the whole Stellar network. It's impossible to do that to the Bitcoin network, which is why it was invented.

A new consensus protocol has been devised for Stellar but I don't think its been deployed yet. This link explains it and says the earliest it will be deployed is this summer.
