41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoins on: April 07, 2016, 03:30:45 PM
People are actually sending bitcoin to that address now also which i think is basically burning them, they will never be used them coins.  i doubt if satoshi would still even have the private keys...... well its satoshi, so he probably does.... Cheesy

How do you know how much has been sent to that address? Kind of like a tribute to Satoshi?

I have seen many a times that whenever i create a new thread it shows : Post read 2 times. How can this happen as its not possible for someone else to open this thread within a split-second. What's going on ?

I've noticed the same thing and assumed it was a bot checking new posts.

And just to be clear, Dave Bitcoin hacks people’s passwords with their permission. He runs the website Wallet Recovery Services, which recovers people’s lost or forgotten passwords by brute force decryption – that is, using a computer program to try millions of passwords in a short amount of time.
this is would good for people who lost their password and want to recover it,i wonder how Dave bitcoin have learn that BFD or brute force decryption,i just know brute force attack to decrypt password, but it hink wallet password not easy as i know.

the quote should say "Dave Bitcoin hacks people’s passwords with their permissionHELP.
he is not exactly hacking, you give him what you think your password is or what it includes then he uses all the variation of that initial password to find the right one.

This is also how the "pros" do it, except they mine for the fragments and without permission of course.
44  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How Much Power to mine 1 Btc a day. on: April 06, 2016, 10:20:39 PM
in hashing power.
Thank you

At current difficulty?

Approximately 359880210000000 hash per second for the entire day.  That's 359.88 terahash per second for 86400 seconds.

That's a total of about 31093650000000000000 hashes (31.094 exahash) calculated per 1 BTC generated.

Take the number of hashes you are able to generate per second and divide 31093650000000000000 by that number of hashes.  The result is the approximate number of seconds it will take you to generate 1 BTC.

Take the number of seconds you want to spend generating 1 BTC and divide 31093650000000000000 by that number of seconds.  The result is the approximate hash rate (hashes per second) that you need to have if you want to generate bitcoins that fast.

That's gigantic. Is this even achievable outside of a mine farm?

I thought the wallets couldn't be hacked. Undecided He has a 30% success rate. That's pretty high.

I think he uses mostly social engineering techniques, like you give him some ideas of the passwords you already have and what you thought it could be and he tries different variations. Even if he doesn't get in the wallet 30% of the time, does it explain why 70% of the time customer's other bank accounts and stuff is all gone? Very suspicious???  Wink

48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Bitcoin power consumption actually overtake all of Denmark soon? on: April 04, 2016, 10:08:12 PM
Some Cloud Mining service (HashFlare, Genesis Mining, etc) use "green energy", so maybe other major mining companies should use it in near future...
They say green energy but really it is not. It is just a branding that does not have any backing to scientifically prove that it is. It is just a way for companies to get government funding for being green, that is all really.

I think I saw some episode of American Greed where the guy was literally making up "green energy credits" and selling them to companies for a fortune. He got caught after he got greedy (and away with millions)... it's a bogus system.

As we know earning butcoin through mining is consuming extra electricity, but this is the era of technology, in future when technology is more advanced, the electricity consumption will become bigger and bigger, so its a good idea for government to start to think a way to increase the electrcity capacity

I once tried a scam "investment" site for fun, knowing that they are not going to last long and operate like a Ponzi scheme. Daily interest was about 3.6%. I figured out, using the "rule of 72", that if the site survived for more than 20 days I will have my ROI.

I was luck to join early and the site did survived for more than 20 days, and I withdrew everything. So I doubled the little investment of 0.01BTC to about 0.02+BTC. About a month later, the site closed down and many investors lost their BTC.

In short, almost all BTC investment at the moment are scams- please correct me by letting me know if there is any valid investment site....

The truth is, every ponzi/hyip programs work like that way. They initially pay to the investors, just to build reputation. but when the big investments start flowing in, they stopped paying. Ponzi is the worst form of gambling available in the market.

However, you should try p2p lending platform like btcjam. I am using this website to fund loan for others and getting a stable monthly returns. Here the risk of loosing money is very less. Every other programs I have tested turned out to be a scam.

Thanks for the pointer on p2p lending and btcjam, avikz. What kind of return is reasonable to expect? Have a good weekend.

54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A friend had a strange idea on: March 30, 2016, 04:03:51 PM
If you want to avoid defacing the currency I suppose you could use a stickie note on it. For a more professional look, I'd just use Powerpoint or something to create a printed card with the free BTC. Leave it along with a regular tip at restaurants, or in other situations where you can be confident it won't be discarded without a look. (Many will be discarded anyway, so it's best to retain the ability to retrieve the funds from any such addresses after a suitable time period.)

How about just a nice looking simple business card with some catchy teaser info and a link to Bitcoin.org or another educational Btc site? You could leave them behind everywhere like skin cells.
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A friend had a strange idea on: March 28, 2016, 06:12:06 PM
That's a nice idea, but not the right way to do it. A better idea is to stick some posters in the streets or to hang a kind of banner in your house's walls.

you're right. It's better to hang a banner than write it on a banknote, It's illegal in my country. Stores won't accept a banknote if it has some ink on it or holes on it.

In Europe, if I remember well, you can even pay with 9/10th of a buck. It can have holes, be in several parts, but as long as you can understand it and that there's a least 9/10th of it, that's fine I presume.

So it's possible to take 10% of 9 bills to create a new acceptable bill?
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A friend had a strange idea on: March 28, 2016, 04:23:59 PM
I was hanging out with some friends and one of them had a very strange idea: writing on 5€ banknotes the public and private keys of a bitcoin address with something like 0.0005 BTC on and the link to the official bitcoin website to make more people know about the Bitcoin.

In your opinion would it work?

There's debate as to the legality of "defacing" money in this way, and I think it varies from country to country. What could be more perfectly targeted grass-roots advertising though? I suspect "rewards" in the form of public/private keys on the bills is a stretch of complexity for the intended target market and that simply stamping "Make This Dollar Honest at Bitcoin.org", "The Future of Money is Bitcoin, Visit Bitcoin.org" or "Claim Your Free Future Money at Bitcoin.org" or something else short and catchy would be more ideal.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 Bitcoin cons to watch out for... on: March 28, 2016, 04:06:36 PM
Thankfully I have not yet fallen for any of these scams. Most of these can be avoided except for the exchange scams, you never know which might claim one day that they were hacked.

Aren't some insured?
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 Bitcoin cons to watch out for... on: March 28, 2016, 02:14:03 PM
If it sounds too good to be true, i.e. 3% interest per day, it is ALWAYS a scam.

Many investors would give their left nut to get a reliable 3% PER YEAR let alone 3% daily.
No one will be ready to give you free money. If you get attracted to some ponzi schemes then definitely you will end up in scammed all of your investments. It is completely our own responsibility to avoid this type of investments.

Yeah greed is usually the accelerant but the naive and desperate are usually the fuel for such schemes which is really not ok.

what is the 4chan effect.

Is there a topic or easy answer? not in the mood to turn into

It's an anonymous image forum but beyond that indescribable really. The best way is to cautiously see for yourself.
I originally wound up there because of curiosity about some hyped celebrity iPhone photos. I warn you that the things I accidentally saw there can never be unseen or forgotten.

3% interest per day!!! Is this a real claim? Does anyone realize the yearly interest would equal a 4,848,272% return or a nearly 50,000x return!!!

Starting with just 1 Bitcoin ($415.82) you would wind up with 48,482.72 Bitcoins (or $20,160,086.51) in just 1 year.
