The United States of America is not even close to a "free market." It is a socialist/corporatist nation, not a capitalist nation (the fact that it's not as socialist as other places doesn't make it capitalist).
America is closer to Free Market Fascism. Those with the most power control through force, coercion or persuasion those with the less power.

This last two weeks of trading bitcoins has been an epic adventure. any other newbs enjoying this as much as me?
I generated a couple of BTC only about .6 btc but i decide to try and sell them this was about two weeks ago. any way I got a couple of bucks for them and decided to see if i could buy them back cheaper and maybe sell them again. Ok, that worked out alright too. I funded an exchange with some real money and started trading just as the bottome fell out.
But actually that has been highhly profitable too. I have actually increased my amount of bitcoins and the value of my initial investment. It is just about looking for the right deals.
for example while mtgox is trading for 7.2 dollars per bitcoin, someone on intersango.us is offering 10 dollars per 1 bitcoin?
any way has any other newbs found they have made more money on the way down turn than when the market was slow?

if a bot is driving down the price then we should be taking advantage of its work. This is a perfect time to get into or increase your share of the market.

Someone above said that bitcoin has no use, and is therefore worthless.
Its use is as a means of transaction. i.e. a method of payment. more than that it is a system of payment that is not controlled by any one person or organisation. therefore it cannot be created infinitely at the whim of a few economists and bankers as can fiat currency, there is no debt involved in creating it, it is instant (apart form the time it takes to confirm), your earnings in BTC cannot be taxed, your earnings in BTC cannot be traced.
I imagine a time when people started using paper money and the nay sayers would have been saying, "ha, thats not real money, you can't pay for goods with a promise, show me the gold"
and here we are today with the world financials sytems operating on pieces of paper stacked ready to tumble like a house of cards. each piece of paper a promise of debt. The debts owned by the banking cartels, who are waiting for the repayments of the debts by your blood, sweat ands tears and the blood sweat and tears of your children and your childrens children.
so the fiat currency that we use today has more practical use at the present time but its value should be recognised for its dsigraceful corruptions of societal and individual welfare and liberty.

@smalleyster,
Thanks for the guide, I was unsure about whether to go with linuxcoin, I wondered whether it was worth the hassle of configuring. But you made it seem pretty straightforward. I'll give it a go.
