any find amd 6800 or amd 6800xt

Microcenter by me only received ten 6800... no 6800xt.. so the campers got them  Shocked

Saves me the headache of driving 20 miles there and back and waiting in line just to have them say sorry. I guess I'll just pick up some 5600s on CyberMonday. It's just like the auto industry - they really have no incentive to lower prices because inventory is so low. Sucks for people who like to work hard and play hard.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ for music production, gaming and then mining. on: November 18, 2020, 02:14:31 PM
I don't think the H110 power delivery is really up for a powerful CPU, let alone CPU mining which is going to pushing the boards' VRMs to the limit. You should consider a Z series board. Plenty of them such as the Gigabyte Gaming series had decent VRMs and could tolerate a decent overclock/undervolt. The 7700 isn't really going to mine well, especially in a world with Threadrippers absolutely destroying everything. For a productivity platform a Z series board is great for work and can mine quite well - I have 7 Gigabyte Z170 boards mining 6-7 cards each, three with an uptime over a year.

Some stupid clerks in the European Union think that they could stop terrorism by spying on everything.
Not going to happen...
The terrorists can simply use platforms, which aren't located in the EU to continue their communication.
I assume that this is just a proposal,so the chance of accepting such encryption ban isn't big, also this encryption ban is going to cover only the messaging platforms, that are using encryption,so the cryptocurrency industry isn't going to be affected. We don't have to worry about Bitcoin, but it sucks that our online privacy might be reduced.

As with all bans and prohibitions the only ones that will follow the rules are those who feel they have something to lose when doing something criminal - ie regular people and companies. Criminals are by definition people who disregard the laws and what you will see is an increased recruitment of programmers and IT people into the criminal world. All those wonderful gun bans in large democrat cities in the US do such a wonderful job of preventing handgun crime  Grin

Hi guys,

I have the same problem here. Im using a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC.

The only settings that I dont get a Thermal Throttling is: TDP - 52%; Mems: -500; Core -500; Fans - 90%, this give me 72 MH/s at 190W.

It took me days to find this thread and finally discover why my RTX 3080 dont generate the 100 MH/s.

Anyone has found a solution that doesnt involve voiding the warranty? Because I cannot disassambly the cooler without voiding the warranty (at least here in my country).

Also, I have a friend with a Asus RTX 3080 TUF OC with the same problem.

Never ever go cheap with cards and expect wonders... If you cant disassemble the crap coolers and lower the clocks is no option anymore, increase the fan speed further and/or use external 3000(+) high pressure fans in addition (like the Noctua Industrial). But this will hurt the lifespan of the original fans even more. So expect to replace them in the near future.

Go cheap? Its a bloody RTX 3080 card, even the entry level RTX 3080 is far cry from cheap, It SHOULD work properly. I dont really care about the lifespan of the fans, since this card has a 4 year warranty here.

I haven't watched all of hardware unboxed videos to see their reviews on this specific Gigabyte model but if you're dropping TDP down to 1/2 and lowering the clocks across the board you're basically only using 1/2 the card. I would just sell the card locally for a nice markup and find a different model of card or just buy the crypto directly. The Gigabyte doesn't have mixed caps so it was probably going to have issues right off the bat.

A friend got the Asus RTX 3080 TUF OC with the fancy MLCC caps and has the same problem. I dont think that is a cap issue, Gigabyte uses the 470u caps instead of the 220u caps (ZOTAC like), more than the double specified by nvidia.

It`s revolting that they have done something like that.

As Phil noted this is a case where mixed caps seems to filter multiple frequencies so that the heat buildup does get to extremes (see futher back in the thread for a chart he linked). Both the Asus and Gigabyte are thus bad models to use for mining because they're going with a single cap type. Obviously nVidia will remedy this with Rev 2 cards from AIB just like Asus had to RMA all those bad RX 5700 XTs that made poor thermal contact. Honestly, this is all nVidia's desire to say they were first to market even if it was a paper launch. Their Founders Editions had 6+ months to test out configs that worked and it looks like AIBs got screwed by having to rush to production.

Sometimes you get lucky buying the first batch because you might get better binned VRAM or higher binned chips (whereas lower yield chips would be saved for some cut-down refresh card). Sometimes you get screwed by meeting design defects and get to be the guinea pig. In this I couldn't even be a guinea pig because I could get my hands on one.

It still games well though as no game is going to run a constant 300w TDP through it. If you want the hashes, sell the card for a profit and just pick up a Founders edition. Phil sitting on 94MH/s sounds decent.

26  Other / Archival / Re: CitiBank & Report about Bitcoin: 21st Century Gold on: November 18, 2020, 02:26:14 AM
Seems to me as if I've heard all of this before--maybe not by Citibank, but nothing in that statement is original.  Pretty much every bitcoin bull has been saying the same stuff since the beginning of bitcoin.  Same goes for gold bugs, too.

On the other hand, even though I'm unimpressed by this, that doesn't mean other folks won't be or that it's not a bullish thing for bitcoin.  In fact I do think this is pretty bullish that a major bank's analysis of bitcoin's future is positive, because a lot of people who might otherwise not have given it a second thought are probably going to read this.

And wouldn't you know?  Bitcoin is above $16k as I write this.  Yowza!

I agree with your sentiments. All this is a repeat of previous runs. It was clear that while Dimon didn't openly support crypto or Bitcoin itself he was clearly taking a stake almost like a little gambling on the side. If crypto fails his bank wins. If crypto wins he makes money.

The fact that this info got released by Citi means that they already loaded up on whatever Bitcoin they wanted, probably bank when it dipped below $3k. At this point any cheerleading you see is people looking to sell - the question is will $20k bagholder be made or $100k because you know it will go down again, and of course up again after that.

The governments want to have increasing knowledge and access to everybody's information and activities while at the same time the technology is there to show where they spend money but your average citizen can't even find the budget for their city without googling for hours because the politicians make the information as obtuse as possible. I think it is quite apparent that the criminals are running the show.
28  Other / Off-topic / Re: in what business would you invest ? on: November 18, 2020, 01:29:13 AM
The answer to what business to open would be situational to people's location would it not? I live near Los Angeles and am basically waiting for my business location to be burned/looted so I can file the insurance claim and move on to the next segment of life. In places where cockroaches don't run the world I expect people may be more open to setting up businesses. Here in Los Angeles the amount of empty lease signs is significant. Perhaps a new moving company would be a good idea  Cheesy
29  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin after 3rd Halving prediction on: November 18, 2020, 01:24:46 AM
Halving simply results in scarcity for those who instantly liquidate the BTC into fiat. Considering that BTC was suppressed earlier this year there was probably less liquidation and now with a 5x price increase more people selling to stockpile fiat. Any "believers" in BTC would have bought at $3k.

The halvening only adds to the news cycle and doesn't really factor into anything other than long term profit/loss calculations for miners trying to predict mining difficulty.
30  Other / Off-topic / Re: Electricity, Internet and Mobile Network on: November 18, 2020, 01:12:40 AM
Electricity, Internet and mobile networks are not appreciated in this article, the problem is just with you. If you want to do a full time online job then you should choose a more modern place instead of a place where the storm can attack easily.
You can choose to live in the capital city or in some provinces less affected by the storm. it will help you avoid any interruptions in your work or cash out. In order to make a lot of money in this market, you also need to invest a lot in your work equipment. Wink
does each disaster choose a place? I don't think so, disaster comes without knowing the city or modern place. It's funny if disaster can do that. there may be jealousy between the town and the township. And you think moving places is easy? I don't think so. just because they were concerned, they had to painstakingly rebuild a new place. It might be easy for you, but it's not for everyone.

I think you missed the point of his statement. It's true you can't predict 1 year ahead that a storm is going to occur on such and such date, but it is quite obvious to most people that certain locations on Earth are much more treacherous than others. Data centers do this planning well ahead of being deployed. As do military installations, banks, new/broadcasting agencies, and anybody else putting sizable infrastructure down on the ground. Sailing out to sea off the California coast is not as dangerous Sea of Hoces.

It's confusing to watch those people in New Orleans scramble each year as a hurricane approaches and the residents discover that being below sea level right next to the coast is not a good place to be.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.1c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: November 17, 2020, 10:46:36 AM
Anybody using 1070? Two years ago all of the 1070s were pushing a constant 30-32 mh/s. Now, only one (EVGA) of them is pushing 29 mh/s, the rest (AERO MSI) are in the low 22-23 mh/s. I understand the 1070s are affected by the increased DAG size as well as nvidia's drivers. However, how come one of my card still pushes similar numbers to two years ago, is the EVGA using a more efficient memory or what causes this? I've tweaked mem/clock and TDP but nothing. Thanks.

OS: Win 10
Newest Nividia drivers
Latest/Beta PM.
Straps/vrtimings, etc. all applied

Thats not true.  1070s are NOT affected by DAG size so far.
All mine are hashing at 30 Mh/s with no problem.

It all depends on your system (power usage, OS, memory, driver...)

You are wrong, every Nvidia Pascal Card, reduce the hashrate with every new DAG epoche. It's the same bug as the AMD R9 290x and R9 390 in the past.
The reduction is not much, but it will happened, You see it, when you let your miner benchmark in epoch 0 and for example in epoch 300. Test it and you will see it dude;)

The user was referring a hashing speed of 22mh/s on a 1070.. and thats not related to DAG size. He has another problem, as i have all my 1070s at almost 30mh/s (@~125w)

Yes and 30mh @125 is to low, the 1070 can do 32mh @ 125w in epoch 0, or 30mh @ 100w in epoch 0. So the 1070 is affected by DAG size. Nothing more, test it and donīt call me what your cards do. I see it every day when my rigs change to Zilliqa mining (Ethash Epoche 0) than the hashrate rize from 180 to 190 and back when it switch back to ETH.

I have a few 1070 around, but none of them are pushing 30+ MH/s. Whats your GPU clock, MEM clock and PowerLimit? Please show in real numbers, just a +100 or something like that wont help because every GPU model has different stock clocks. Thanks!

He said they were pushing 30+MH/s at Epoch 0 - as in when ETH first started and the DAG size was its smallest. Pretty much all 1070s were at or above 30MH/s at that time and optimal settings were 70% no core mod and about 450 to 600 on mem. Those numbers are impossible on Ethereum at Epoch 374 - even if you left it at 100 power and boosted core or mem to maximum tolerances you can't achieve those numbers.. If you mine something like Ubiq (which has  a small DAG) you can get those kind of numbers, but not on large DAG size coins like Ethereum and ETC.

I recall reading posts and links to nvidia forums stating that 1070s do indeed have a reduction of total mh/s output due to the DAG size. Forgive me as I don't have the link on hand.

Update: I unplugged everything, tried one gpu at a time and ran at 22.5 mh/s and that one odd at 29  mh/s. I plugged everything back, now all are reporting 29 mh/w and one is stuck at 23 mh/s. Any guesses? Because I have no idea what's going on.

To the other poster, my gpus are running at 65C-70C, it's very cold here and one of the reasons I decided to turn it back on. My settings are +100/600+ @70TDP (I tested up to 80 but there's a tiny bit of increase .5).

Thank you all

With reasonable ambient temps and normal airflow you shouldn't be getting those kind of temps. You probably have dried out paste that is no longer forming a good conduction layer. If you are comfortable take the cooler assembly off and repaste each card with a decent silver compound - doesn't have to be expensive. Usually all cards will need this if they've been going 2 or 3 years nonstop.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: We Bought 50 ACRES to Build a SOLAR POWERED CRYPTO MINING FARM !! on: November 17, 2020, 09:11:00 AM
Congrats voskcoin, I thought solar mining isn't worth it anymore? What am I missing? I planned to build a solar mining farm a month ago but I was discouraged because of the less profits, it seem like it free electricity can make things a bit better for miners right now I don't knwo

solar is good if you are grid-tied and there are lots of lands and on those lands are great concentration of uv lights for example, arizona or texas usa, sahara desert, Australia, or middle parts of south america, you need to do your research. I know a lot about renewable energy, wind still the best, 24/7 but you need to choose the right place and that place needs to be balanced, not too strong or weak wind.

He said virginia, perhaps wind will be better than solar but it depends where in virginia, if close to the east coast then wind.

Surprisingly some northern latitudes also do decently well for solar if the panels are high efficiency and the region has lots of clear days. A tropical region that has lots of cloud/fog cover can't really benefit as much. When I was in Washington state some locals showed me their solar farm. Surprised the hell out me because electricity is so cheap there with hydro, but they have so many clear days and the low ambient temps means the panels run much more efficiently than the same type panel would in a place like Arizona. 30% collection efficiency and 20% heat resistance negates down to a 24% collection efficiency.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD RX 6000 GPUs will be GREAT at GPU MINING! RX 6900 XT, 6800 XT, and 6800 on: November 17, 2020, 09:04:51 AM
It is  easy to calculate ETHASH  power  ow Radeon 6800XT  , it is  close  to  2x 5700XT   =  103 to 115 MH/s

can you explain pls how you come to this number  Shocked

It's about as accurate as his/her last post which was guessing ETH would be $9900 at the end of June in 2019. By core count and memory used it looks like it will only be in the 60MH/s. It seems AMD has made significant improvements in efficiency of the architecture so performance per watt in gaming should go up quite a bit. Perhaps it will do the 60 or so MH with the same power draw as the 5700XT which would be about a 20% improvement.

They announced their computer cards today so I expect those to be the real dagger hashimoto winners.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: November 17, 2020, 08:58:28 AM
Well my local Microcenter has basically no stock of RX 5700XTs other than Sapphire brand. I know they're good cards but I like the longer 3 year warranty on the ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI cards and with AmEx that pushes them out to 4 years without having to return the card to Microcenter (place of purchase). Since they have very little stock I'm hoping they get a decent amount of cards that I can get 1 to test out.
36  Economy / Economics / Re: Working plans for uneducated unemplyement people in USA on: November 17, 2020, 01:42:57 AM
As my mother taught in a very large university here in Los Angeles, I don't think many of you understand that it was the government's hand in the education system that made it so unaffordable. The government made the whole loan system and colleges saw they could keep increasing tuition costs as long as loans allowed kids to pursue education at the expense of massive debt. College is essentially a talking, writing and reading endeavor. There are no real material costs considering the availability of online "print" - the "textbook" only costs whatever the publisher/author are willing to sell it at for rights as there's so little cost with an eBook.

The major cost of "higher levels of learning" is the whole advertising the schools do, their sports program and the whole prestige aspect. If you took all that nonsense away, a professor making $150K/year could take a year off of some real world work to teach a class of 30 students (let's assume the students don't change for simplicity). That equals $5k/yr per student. Figure at most $1k for books and if it's a science based class another $1k for materials. USC and Harvard charging $60K/yr - there's some real cheating going on and it's not the students. The whole system is a scam.

We should just go back to trade schools and apprenticeships for the masses. Spending $250K in 4 years while putting out no product only to make an extra $10K/yr over 25 years - what are these people expecting?

Biden will only increase that teacher pay to even higher levels - paid for by taxpayers.

While you're on the right track with the fact that government subsidizing student loans has led to a huge increase in the cost of tuition because it creates inelastic demand, it's simply wrong to say that the main costs of colleges are advertising and sports programs. Colleges have huge administrative cost and the cost of professors is probably the largest expense items, as well as all the other staff-related costs. And the sports programs are huge sources of revenue for big colleges, so it's not like all that money they consume comes from tuition. Most large football programs subsidize the cost of all the other unprofitable sports programs.

By the way, the president has nothing to do with college teacher pay. None whatsoever.

I know just how much college professors make as my mother was one. They don't really start draining the system until they're tenured and then their pay exceeds that of the POTUS is many cases and they receive state pension for teaching at state schools like UCLA and Berkley. That insane pay is not a result of output - those professors are making that money off prestiging - bringing in money from old alumni. My wife's good friend donated $5 million to U of W dental school and was saddened when the school spent it on building a low income clinic... in Bellevue, WA lol. Basically it was a handout for free money to ivory tower clinicians. There are no poor people in Bellevue going to that clinic - such a pork project - but it's a beautiful building.

The lowly professor teaching the classes at UCLA filled with 100 to 350 students at a time is only making about $100/hour. The only reason they keep at that cheap rate is to hopefully get tenure where they can milk the system of state taxpayers. It's not a merit based system.

The only reason you think the sports programs make money from the school is that the school advertises it as such. In reality, when you look at all the cheating that is done by the athletic programs it becomes apparent that they steal tuition. Football players using disabled placards. Priority access to classes for athletes. Discounted meal and housing for athletes. New construction of athletic training/playing facilities that don't have enough income from ticket sales to offset the cost of the construction and property taxes. At UCLA, for example, the new tennis stadium still has not been paid for by more than 32% after 10 years. The budget for planning and environmental studies for the project actually came from the general fund so that wasn't even ticketed in the cost. I know people who work at UCLA in the athletic departments and this is how I know this. You can find articles about similar stories if you dig deep enough, but usually the front page on the newspaper talks about how great the sports teams are for the schools. Remember newspapers and print media make quite a bit from collegiate sports, it's in their interest to feed their narrative. The coaches and managers at universities are usually the highest paid entities in the school and it even makes news on the aforementioned media. You rarely see them putting on the front page stories about their alumni achieving scientific breakthroughs. Let me know when Goodenough becomes as famous as Pete Carroll or John Wooden.

If you think the POTUS has nothing to do with college teacher pay then that's your prerogative. Ultimately the POTUS does pick a cabinet member that become sec of education and that sec determines K-12 schooling agenda which does influence college level pay as well as union and lobbying efforts. California Teacher Association is the largest lobbyist in the US and they vote with one party almost on a 1:1 basis. To think that college professors don't align themselves the same way as K-12 teacher unions - well I guess you've been gone from the school tenure narrative for 70 years. Nothing will get between a teacher and their pension - not even a rape or child molestation conviction. You say something to the contrary and you will be beaten up in the media like the 200 pound 3rd grader sitting on other 3rd graders over by the tether-ball courts. Only in a society where teachers are held to sainthood can a teacher who feeds semen laced cookies to kids be defended by the teacher union that's supposed to protect kids. That narrative carries all the way up to colleges.

BTW all my kids teachers in public school make approximately 30% more than an urgent care physician on a per hour basis. $90/hr for urgent care at Kaiser in California. $118/hr for my kids teachers in K-6.

The green LEDs reminds me years ago how I had an Antminer that I kept in my bedroom and slept next to it because the fan noise helped me sleep during the day. This was an Antminer S2 which I undervolted so it ran at like 750Ghs instead of 1TH/s so the fans didn't need to run as fast and it made a nice and soft noise which was perfect for sleeping. However the most annoying thing were the damn LEDs which blinked like CRAZY and you couldn't disable them.

I am not talking about the LAN LED but each hashing board had some LEDs which blinked whenever some work was found, share found, or whatever reason. There were 10 hashing boards so you can imagine the amount of crazy firework show I could see in the dark. Only way to disable them was to desolder them from the hashing board. I tried covering them up with electrical tape but the heat would make them come off and fans would blow them out. But yes, those LEDs are useless. I think they were mostly there for debugging purposes when the board was being testing during production.

I've always been annoyed by blinking LEDs at night. I have a router in my closet and I leave the door open a crack for ventilation and the blinking lights up my whole room. It's like the inside of a Borg Cube once your eyes get used to the darkness.

BTW it's never a good idea to sleep next to new hardware because the volatile organic compounds given off by the PCB and components are very carcinogenic. I like to let the system "bleed" out the toxins at another location or outside for a good month or two.

Yeah the title seems off. To me a mining rig (or any rig before mining existed) as your PC. I have ASICs and never consider those as rig as they're pre-built units and they'll all pretty much the same - plug in power and ethernet and away it goes with loud fans. Mining rigs are things you build with love (and sometimes hate) and plenty of times you get to personalize it to you style. Some like only 3 or 4 cards with massive power draws per card, others use 19 little cards, others use RGB and pimp out their mining rigs for show as much as profit.

$36/day? I don't think any rig of mine has ever netted that in direct fiat earnings per day.

So it looks like difficulty bomb will be hit at the end of June 2021, about 7.5 months from now. At that point ETH profitability will tank and I fully expect Vitalik to drop the block reward to 1 ETH or even cancel transaction fees to miners. If that's the case I can't see any of my cards being paid off in a reasonable time. It sucks because we're heading into winter but I think I'm going to just sit on the sidelines for the next round and just pick up on any crashes. Perhaps ETC can pick up some slack, but the 4GB cards are all going to slam that coin.

I would buy three or four more 3080s. but my discount caps at 5% of 1500.

since I paid 856 a card I capped out my 5% cc discount along with my take six months to pay at a cost of only a 12 dollar fee.

still three of these should do about 285 mh which is about 7 a day.

cost was 3x856= 2568-75= 2493- 1600 for the five 1080tis so i am out of pocket 893+12= 905

I have six months to pay. should pay it about four months.

All cards will pay off soon.

You always seem to get decent pricing. I live so close to Newegg I can do will-call, but that means I have to pay 10% sales tax bumping my cost to $880 a card. My credit cards only give me a 2% option at Newegg. I could do 5% at Amazon but those cards are insta-botted so that's a futile effort.

I could get rid of my older 1070s that have dropped down to 26MH/s but it's been hard trying to sell them locally. The 1080Ti held is value better. Oddly I was able to sell 1060 3GB cards I was gaming with in June for $130 - now I can't get rid of those for $80.
