681  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New 14nm miners??????? on: September 01, 2014, 10:06:57 PM
There's no point to going towards 14nm when 20nm hasn't even been optimized.  28nm offerings are still sometimes more efficient than their 20nm brethren.  Spending money on improving the current design before stepping down to an expensive process should seem to be the better route.

Neurotransmitter research is one of the slowest parts of medicine. This is why we still don't have good treatments for routine headaches.  Nanite technology will probably arrive before the repair mechanism is understood.

She's got clear skin and a big chest but otherwise she's Obama.  Reading 6 sentences from a teleprompter?  How do these people function day to day?

Well it's about time the internet served up pictures of pretty naked ladies.

I'll get to those as soon as I'm done watching these 21,358 cat videos.
688  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am new,looking to start mining. on: September 01, 2014, 12:23:14 PM
Why is it that so many newbies show up here, assuming that the obvious way to go is mining? Bitcoins have a price -- does it not occur to anyone that simply buying may be a better investment strategy than mining?

Mining is very speculative and capital-intensive.

Because the media has done such a horrible job of explaining Bitcoin.

30 second clips where they name Mark Karpeles as the CEO of BTC
30 second clip showing somebody using 25 PCs to mine BTC (from 2010)
30 second clip stating BTC funds terrorism (as opposed to cash and the banking system which is in bed with terrorists)

People see a short clip of somebody using computers and then everybody with 2 "PCs" in their house wants to come here and ask where to get the free digital money.
689  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Don't mess with nuclear Russia, Putin says on: September 01, 2014, 12:15:37 PM
I hate to say it, but it's WW3 time... It's imminent.. and this moment even China is displaying their arsenal of weapons to the world. All that will remain will be memories of a time of chaos, ruined dreams. Folks, learn how to prepare!

Seems like its stalemate if everyone has nukes.  We just end up with stronger set of borders until things change within each country.

until a suicidal maniac takes over the country Hitler/ISIS style and doesn't mind killing everyone including himself.
Exactly. The mutually assured destruction doctrine is based upon the assumption that the leader who controls the nukes cares enough about his/her subjects.

A dictator will starve right down to his very last subject!

...
You can't just give everybody in America $1 million dollars and say "everybody gets a Lamborghini" - it doesn't work that way.  Roll Eyes
Yes, you most certainly can give them all $1M dollars.

Whether those dollars will even buy a hamburger at that point is another question.

What I mean was you can offer to give out everything for free by printing money left and right.  Obama promised everything under the sun.  Good luck getting it even if you want it.  It would be damn near impossible to get 20 million hand crafted cars with the caliber of a Lamborghini even if the government said "we'll foot the bill".

Just because they say everybody gets free healthcare doesn't mean 50K new primary care physicians pop up on the surface of the Earth.

Had our "Harvard educated" POTUS actually learned even a "smidgeon" of science he would have know about the concept of "rate limiting step".
691  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: {BFL} WHAT THE!! ButterflyLads WONT deliver the Monarch Till...ONLY GOD KNOWs?:( on: September 01, 2014, 11:09:09 AM
2 more weeks have passed...

Has anyone reported/reviewed a Monarch "out there in the wild" already?

Or are they being shipped RSN?

One dude got 25 shipped to him.

Are you talking about smracer?  He deployed them in his farm pretty quickly.  The man is like a little miner whisperer Tongue
692  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I am out of the mining game :( on: September 01, 2014, 10:33:12 AM
Maybe traditional mining is not longer profitable, but you can do it in a new way. There are ideas like virtual mining, purchasing remote mining rig or buying something like the new Hashlet from GAW miners for example. And you don't have to be rich to to do so...

Virtual mining, as you call it, is indeed quite profitable - for the company selling the hashes Tongue  Every contract allows them to expand their marketshare  Wink
693  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New to cryptos - looking for opinions on lifetime cloud vouchers on: August 31, 2014, 06:42:16 PM
I would also avoid all mining and cloud mining - it does nothing other than transfer money from your bank account to the company - there's no option for profit really when you do the numbers.

If you think mining is just there to transfer money to the miner makers then you have a serious misunderstanding of how bitcoin works. Mining is absolutely essential to bitcoin. Without it, there would be no transactions at all.

You don't need to mine with the purpose of making a profit, you can do it as a way to convert fiat into bitcoin without the hassles of dealing with banks and exchanges with regards to bitcoin. Some people might even mine for ideological reasons. Sure, making a profit is nice but it's not a necessity. If you're in it to make a profit, you're best off going with in stock miners instead of pre-orders as it makes difficulty estimations far easier and more accurate.

Mabsark - we're both here since 2011.  We don't need to explain to each other why people/BTC needs mining. If you look back at my post history you will find I have told newbies there are several reasons to mine, unfortunately I haven't posted it recently

I always posted this as my list to newbies:
-support the network/decentralize
-enjoy the mining process
-make more from mining than you could from buying
-mine your own coins that have no transaction history for greater anonymity.

The first 2 reasons are still valid and for many people like myself will be until the day IF BTC fails.

The last 2 reasons I can't say are true anymore.  I think most miners agree they cannot make ROI with current hardware.  And nobody can really solo mine at home - if they could I would see a thread "I found a block with my S3 or Dragon"

But cloud mining is does not support decentralization.  It forces hashes into massive farms that get digitally sold out but the farm owner could always lend themselves to a 51% attack.  Cloud mining is only good for miner employment.  That's my view - tell me if you agree.

694  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Increasing Efficiency on S1 on: August 31, 2014, 06:28:34 PM
Ill give that a try, I know when you under volt you have to declock but wasn't sure if you could get good performance just by under clocking, id rather just under clock than under volt. more complicated process. and i don't know wtf i put my voltmeter its been a long time since I've needed it.

Yes underclocking is easier since it just involves changing the speed.  The resulting decrease in power is usually linear - if you go down 30% in speed you see about 30% decrease in power.

By undervolting the chips are usually not able to run as fast so they would require an underclock as well and require a little fiddling to find a stable maximum speed but a 30% reduction in power would be significantly less - closer to 50-60% decrease in power due to the fact power is the square of the amperage.

Cex.io is still generating around a 100% annual return, plus the fact that you can sell it to get your original investment back, so the fact that it is a few cents a day is not the point. The point is you could invest a lot more and make 100%. The problem is that there is risk.  But, yes, if you have only a small amount of money to invest, then the few cents a day return is a problem.

That is a classic case of new person not looking at the trendline and only looking at the current rate of return.  It s the reason why people have lost thousands of BTC to cex.io and why ghash.io has it's own farm.

I will gladly bet 1 BTC including escrow with anybody who thinks they get 100% ROI annualized return from cex.io without actively trading.

Look at the price per GH/s over the last 8 months  Shocked

My wife!   Wink

My mom.

For a second I thought both posts were from the same users and then it got awkward....real awkward.

Yes Liv Tyler is damn cute.  I've always been a fan of Sandra Bullock (also has the elf face thing going on like Liv) and Audrey Hepburn.

Sid M/Civ is coming out with Beyond Earth which is supposed to be like a new version of Alpha Centauri

I've been playing Endless Legend and it's fun and decently stable for a pre-access on Steam.

Let's make this simple, the OP needs 13mBTC (0.013 BTC).  Let's call it 13 meters of solid rock you need to dig through.

If you buy an ASIC you can mine at a rate of a meter an hour.

If you rely on faucets you can mine at a rate of an 10 cm/day

If you try mining on the equipment the OP is using you mine at the rate of 0.1mm/day.

If the OP wants to mine with his bare fingernails, he's welcome to, but it's only hurting the environment and potentially his computer.

The sensible thing to do would be to buy the coin locally.
