201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 06:08:40 AM
Guys, I'm not happy, constantly worried and possibly scared. I didn't have a nice sleep since long time ago.

I'm really afraid of the possible criminal charges if things don't work out well. It'll be devastating to my life, considering the permanent record and inconvenience in every single official activity, even if I'm proven innocent. I know some victims are desparate, and they are going to take actions against whatever entity that's ever related to Bitcoinica.

When the General Partners asked for apology, I gave. When they asked for respect, I also gave. I also contributed a significant portion of my personal investment to compensate the victims. I'm trying to cut down the ties but I can't, even though I owned nothing of the company since January and announced the change of management explicitly in April.

And today, there are still people claiming that I hacked the accounts. Both Mt. Gox and AurumXchange froze some of my personal funds without giving specific reasons (they did tell me some generic reasons), persumably related to Bitcoinica. I'm really nervous! (If it's unrelated, please email/PM me so that I'll feel much better.)

I can be sure that I'm not financially related to Bitcoinica, and I should never be liable for any debt of the company. I am willing to join any lawsuit against Bitcoin/Bitcoinica Consultancy Ltd and/or Bitcoinica LP as a claimant, and I also possess important but secretive documents that can only be revealed in court.

I want to do whatever I can to help you, and help myself.

How much did you make on the sale of Bitcoinica?

I want to tell you, but I can't. It's the only thing NDA'd.

All I can say is, the money isn't enough to compensate for my unhappiness and worries during this period.

I just tried the LastPass account. I didn't expect to be able to log in, but I was able to using the original credentials!

you resigned from the company yet continue to access company accounts?

The username and password are public knowledge. I tried it for fun. I didn't see any records.

EDIT: I resigned from the company and they still charge my credit cards. And they haven't deleted my email access (and I can't delete myself).  They haven't even responded to the resignation.

And LastPass didn't log the IP that reverted the master password. It's so weird.

From my understanding, it doesn't matter if the hacker didn't log into a LastPass account. That's because API key is the same password for a MtGox account.

No. The Mt. Gox account is stored in the LastPass. It's a different password.
205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 12:31:38 AM

Was the 12 July master password change after the hack (hack was announced on 13 July)?

It's concerning that anyone would revert the password.

It should be. I can't answer with definite answers because I didn't change it.

It's concerning because an email account with admin rights of the entire Google Apps domain and also the domain name itself is stored in LastPass. The hacker can easily remove any critical email notifications by changing the settings of the mailing list info@bitcoinica.com.

Sorry boys, but quitting does not absolve you of your liability for this criminal act- each and every one of you, Zhou, Patrick, Tihan et al. remain jointly and severally liable for the debt which you took on, especially since you chose to take it on under an apparently fraudulent basis considering your filings with the New Zealand government.

Please, I haven't signed anything about Bitcoinica since the end of 2011.

I have never signed on any New Zealand document.

And I have never signed any document with the name "Patrick" in it.

I quit because the pre-requesite I set has been met - Bitcoinica pays back 50% of all available funds, which is true after the Mt. Gox account hack. I'm a claimant too. Bitcoinica owes me $350 in USD account balance, and about $780 in the bills. I even have to cancel two of my credit cards because I don't have the access to the accounts that keep charging me every month.
208  Other / Off-topic / Re: My New Project - NameTerrific (now in Alpha) on: July 22, 2012, 01:42:40 AM
NameTerrific's Bitcoin payment is now automated. I have updated the OP.

Nice!   Looks to be about a 10% or more discount for paying with Bitcoin.   At the current exchange rate I was quoted 1.2 BTC, which is about 12.5% below the $12 USD price, using Mt. Gox last.

One bit of feedack -- during the checkout process I filled out the profile but the Company was mandatory.  The instructions say to use your name if not a company.   If you are asking for display name, then use the field title display name.  But titling a field Company when no company exists feels wrong.  I don't know how other registrars handle it.  I've always left the field blank for domains I own personally-

Also, after entering my profile, I didn't know what to do next ... I believe showing a link that goes to the cart would have helped.

Yes, we deliberately offer a significant discount for Bitcoin users (because we would save on the transaction fees and chargeback risks anyway). I believe that it's one of cheapest Bitcoin registrars available.

Thanks for the feedback! The WHOIS standard requires an "Organization" name, and in case of an individual, it's simply the person's name. I will consider changing it to something similar to "Displayed Name" while still maintaining the clarity. Thanks!
209  Economy / Services / Re: NameTerrific - Bitcoiners' Beta (Domain names at 1.2 BTC/year) on: July 22, 2012, 01:39:32 AM
I want to buy a domain, but if I provide contact details will I be able to make them private so no whois can get my information?

Unfortunately, we do not allow nor encourage our customers to enable WHOIS privacy.

NameTerrific is intended for the geek community.

However if you are able to find a WHOIS privacy service provider yourself you can enter their information in your profile.

212  Economy / Services / Re: NameTerrific - Bitcoiners' Beta on: July 21, 2012, 12:09:07 PM
For a limited time, we have adjusted the assumed Bitcoin price to be $10.

So .COM costs only 1.2 BTC per year at the moment, for unlimited quantity.

Another present is a 12-day trip to US (but it will happen in September-October holiday).
If you are in my area of Wyoming I will buy you lunch!  (I get a picture though.... you are a celebrity, like it or not!)

Most likely I'll only go to CA and possibly NY. The country is too huge!
215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a hackers dream on: July 20, 2012, 10:03:19 AM
I give you an example: someone recognized Zhou exchanging some 40k$ LR to RMB for some bad rate in a hurry a day after the theft. Zhou said it was unrelated, but this shows that a community can recognize way more than some astonished local Japanese police officer.

Since my name has been mentioned I would just reply in this thread anyway. I'll explain this, for once and for all.

As I explained in the QQ Group where the trades happened, I was cashing out for a Singaporean friend who has $100K in total in several LR accounts. I was able to get much better USD/SGD exchange rates than any bank customers. (I was able to get "interbank" rates: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76156.0)

I was not "in a hurry". Even on today I have done a deal with someone. (7 days is not "hurry".)

The rate was not bad. Most e-currency exchanges charge 1.5%-2% plus wire fees (about $50 per transaction including routing fees). USD/CNY exchange rate is highly stable and I can access to discounted exchange rate through my Chinese bank as well. I actually got a better deal.

And it's definitely not $40K (which is the stolen USD amount that Bitcoinica claims). I have also placed a single $40K AurumXchange order during the same period.

I still have an operating business in Singapore (http://www.sgitcoin.com/) and this service is actually quite popular (top Google result for "buy bitcoin in singapore"). Therefore I regularly deal with foreign exchange, money transfers and e-currencies.

This kind of transactions are very common to me. It happens all the time before the hack. (For example, trading over $20K with UserXXX: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93109.msg1039996#msg1039996)
216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wendon Group, et al. on: July 20, 2012, 09:31:40 AM

BTW, my name appears in the EV certificate (because I have to be over 18 to be a company director in Australia). Another proof that I'm real.

Are you going to form a company for your 18th birthday present (it's next month, isn't it)?

Yes, good guess! It's a Friday, and some legal firms provide same-day incorporation service.

Another present is a 12-day trip to US (but it will happen in September-October holiday).
217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wendon Group, et al. on: July 20, 2012, 08:40:54 AM

Damn you for penning such an exceptional post. It'll cause me to take a step back and evaluate the situation.

VC aside, I feel there's something greater at play here, and it's that aspect I'm trying to get a handle on. At the moment, my research is centering around the business of Domain Names and the like. An industry I thought was waning, but now even see Zhou Tong entering into the fray, of which I don't believe he stumbled upon that venture by accident. Or the fact that there's a Carlos with three different last names associated with coinlab.com. Or the fact that there's so many Seales with different first names centered around Tihan's enterprises/addresses, I'm thinking about investing in clubs (for no real purpose but to meld fact with humor).

~Bruno~

Believe it or not. It was really accidental (or rather it's not a coincidence at all).

NameTerrific is really different from traditional domain registrars. Please check out the unfinished site yourself: https://www.nameterrific.com.

If genjix posted those mails, can they be trusted?

I have roughly read the posts and they are consistent with my understanding of the events.
219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Personal contribution of 5,000 BTC to affected Bitcoinica customers on: July 16, 2012, 08:55:59 AM
Sorry if this offends anyone but quit whining, I don't think you're grasping the fact that he had no responsibility to do this, he just gave out 5000btc from his own pocket. Let me know about the last time you gave out almost $40,000 to complete strangers and you can continue.

Thanks.
We're not complete stranger, if the intent was to give 5000btc in proportional relief to his past affected customers, I think it is unfortunate if it end up having affected people feel unfavorably treated once again.

Ps : Your comment did offend me.

I read your story and you are indeed unfortunate.

However, there was no record of you activating the claim, therefore your claim was not considered in the total. Everything has been done automatically and I'm sure that there weren't any manual errors or careless mistakes.

I'm sorry that I can't help you. No part of Bitcoinica's money belongs to me and I have done free work for them for over 3 months with huge amount of bills that haven't been reimbursed. I allowed the disaster to ruin my holiday and used my sleeping time to build this claim system to help people while giving up the majority of my Bitcoin permanent savings. I promised myself not to do such kind of things again.
220  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Resign from Bitcoinica on: July 15, 2012, 11:06:23 AM
On an off-topic I see your new project is https://www.nameterrific.com

Care to explain why you are not accepting bitcoin for this service? Your service looked interesting enough for me to click on Pricing until I noticed the 4 same logos that I see everywhere else.

Explain?

The service has not officially launched yet. The product is ready, but the billing system is not.

I will implement Bitcoin support after credit card support. And I will use a merchant solution, most likely.
