661  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why bitcoin is currently (Jan 16th) crashing and why it may continue on: January 16, 2012, 04:30:04 PM
Would be interesting to know what kind of money this guy has got as a reserve given it is widely believed he is a teenager.

Usually 6 digits in USD and 5 digits in Bitcoin.
662  Economy / Speculation / Re: Having Fun: Bitcoinica 24-Hour Spread-Free! on: January 16, 2012, 01:35:58 PM
Zhou could you look at my reply?

Hi,

We will send the EUR code back within 24 hours. Sorry for the delay, but this is a manual process.

Thank you for your patience!
663  Economy / Speculation / Re: 83% of Mt. Gox trades were from Bitcoinica (in last 24 hours) on: January 15, 2012, 06:21:36 AM
no spreads effect

Right, I had forgotten about that.  Zhou runs a one-day-only special and acts surprised that the volume increased on that day.  I suppose I'm surprised it's over 50%, too, but if you ever wanted to close out a position or start a new one, then today was the day.

Perhaps because Bitcoinica is running on Debian Squeeze.
664  Economy / Speculation / 83% of Mt. Gox trades were from Bitcoinica (in last 24 hours) on: January 15, 2012, 05:33:27 AM
Mt. Gox volume: 141,034.92 BTC

Bitcoinica hedging volume: 117,516.83 BTC

So that's 83% for the last 24 hours.

Bitcoinica has a no-buying redflag again. So obviously people were trying to buy on Bitcoinica and pushed the price up. (This is pure fact, no opinions on future market movement.)

I'm just wondering, where are the Mt. Gox traders?

Note: There's always the other side of trading, but we can ignore it at the moment, because without Bitcoinica's trades, the 83% at the other side wouldn't have been triggered as well.
665  Economy / Speculation / Re: Having Fun: Bitcoinica 24-Hour Spread-Free! on: January 14, 2012, 04:42:38 PM
How do you 'activate' the legit mtgox spread?  Im on bitcoinica trading page and I see
4.6/5.2 while on mtgox its 4.8/5.1 ??

4.8/5.1 LOL... You scared me successfully because I didn't check prices.

Well, tiny orders don't count. We need at least X, where X can be any number between 50 and 350.
666  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big buy just now on: January 14, 2012, 02:22:24 PM
Actually this can be used as a good tool.

Lets say you set a buy at $6. And you presently have a few sells at lets say $7. You can create further sell/shorts at $7 before your orders at $6 get met.

When your buy orders at $6 get filled, you are now able to auto-sell at $7 when the market moves there.

Yeah, it makes sense. But well, now we have Bitcoinica for this, and it's even better. :-)
667  Economy / Speculation / Re: Having Fun: Bitcoinica 24-Hour Spread-Free! on: January 14, 2012, 08:45:46 AM
That's very sad! You can tell your cell operator about this and ask them to sync their time properly. You can disable cellular time temporarily and set your own time. 1-minute behind reality is not good!

Let me explain how customer service works here in America:
1. 1 hour on hold
2. I am unable to assist you with that.  I can transfer you to X who may be able to help.
3. 30 minute hold
4. I am unable to assist you with that. I can transfer you to Y who may be able to help.
5. 30 minute hold
6. I am unable to assist you.  Let me give you a ticket number and I'll have a technician call you back.
7. Technician calls.  "Our infrastructure follows industry standards.  We will take note of your complaint and may change it next time we upgrade our gear (sometime in the next 15 years)"

So, yeah. I'll do that as soon as you give me a Bitcoinica code for 2 hours of my time.

LOL. I will PM a $0.1 code to you...
668  Economy / Speculation / Re: Having Fun: Bitcoinica 24-Hour Spread-Free! on: January 14, 2012, 08:34:56 AM
1.  Delete Bitcoinica from Google Authenticator.
2. Refresh /account/security on bitcoinica
3. Click + on Google Auth, Click Scan Barcode, Scan barcode
4. Enter code on bitcoinica, submit
5. "Your one-time token was incorrect. Please try again."

What am I doing wrong?

Most likely your phone's clock is inaccurate. Please sync your time with some standard time sources. We tolerate up to 90 seconds.

Clock is set by cellular network.  I can't change it.

Getting "Your one time token is incorrect".  Scanned QR into Google Authenticator, tried 4 different codes.

The QR code will change each time the page loads. So you may have to scan it again to get a new code. After enabling it the account key will be locked.

673  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big buy just now on: January 14, 2012, 07:02:43 AM
I suspect there were multiple players in that

What I don't understand is this. The buy comes first, clearing out quite a bit of asks. Then, when there is no volume in that range, a large sell comes, most of it at prices lower than where the buy started. Does someone get off on losing money?

If it's done by a single person, then yes, the guy will lose money. So most likely it's accidental.
674  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big buy just now on: January 14, 2012, 07:01:43 AM
Again, it's pretty clear that someone left some "insufficient funds" sell orders while buying.

I watched the whole thing live too, the sell simply came too quickly.

I wonder why Mt. Gox left such orders open at all, did any real-world exchanges do that?
675  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mad Speculator now live on bitcoinica on: January 14, 2012, 01:08:32 AM
tvm i am out

The short from 6.5852? did you make any profit?
aye

now someone is selling like mad is not me hehe

ok that screenshot is so fake it isn't even funny..
make your math
2345*6.5852=15442.294
15442.294*0.838%=129.40642372

that part works out... its the fact that the difference between buy and base in that screen shot is not 0.838% its more like 0.06% 0.091%

Edit: got my numbers wrong there, they might still be wrong... im tired

The price updates every 3 seconds. The position updates every 10 seconds. That's why...
676  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bug in Bitcoinica did cost me 30 Dollar and they dont care! on: January 13, 2012, 11:52:17 AM
Hmmm, if it is a Browser Problem, maybe add something on the Server so only one Order can be created in one Second?

Thank you for your Help Smiley

I think it has something to do with PJAX. PJAX is constantly giving us front-end issues.

I have already removed PJAX from the site.

By the way, I don't think that kind of restriction is good. We will get another complaint if we stop people from submitting duplicate orders, lol...
677  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bug in Bitcoinica did cost me 30 Dollar and they dont care! on: January 13, 2012, 10:20:11 AM
Hello!

I did start a limit buy order on the "Advanced trading Page", in the Moment i did klick on buy, the "Your order got stored" or something like that bar at the top got shown, like normal. Not normal was, that it got shown maybe 30 Times, it coverd my hole Screen. So i got one order opend a million times!!! In the time i canceld all this Orders, it did buy 300 additional Bitcoins that i didnt want!!!! i had to sell tham with a loss!!! i lost aprox 30 dollars!!!!

is that a known bug?? I hope for refund Sad

Someone else expirienced the same??

I hope some publicity helps me, i did try it private, but they dont react Sad

Sorry for the delay. I was traveling so I didn't have time to respond to your request.

It's most likely your browser's problem (and no one else has reported similar issues). However, I'm glad to compensate you on this. I will PM you a Bitcoinica USD code of $30 (the loss you mentioned).

Thank you for your understanding!
678  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica: 2,000 Users! Contest: Get 1 BTC for free! on: January 13, 2012, 10:04:01 AM
Did anyone get their 1BTC as I did not seem to have got mine yet Cry Blockchain seems up to date as well so I wonder what the problem could be.

I will PM everyone a Bitcoinica BTC code today! Sorry for the wait!
679  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Two-factor Authentication on: January 13, 2012, 08:45:19 AM
Great to have it! Two notes though:

You state that you use HOTP (one time passwords), but by scanning the code it turns out you are using TOTP (time-based tokens). Decide which you want to use and put a clear message with that information on the site. I've tried to enter the setup token manually (I have iPhone 3G which couldn't scan the code) and picked password-based auth, and it didn't work.

Also, please add option that Gmail has - remembering the code for some time. They get you 30 days. For Bitcoinica I'll use a week.

Sorry, I confused with the text. It should be TOTP. Updating the site now…

I will see if remembering OTP is feasible and necessary. Thanks for the suggestion!
680  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica - Security? on: January 13, 2012, 07:59:57 AM
As for two-factor auth, I'd reccomend Google Two-factor auth mechanism. It's great, because it utilizes app on your phone as auth mechanism, which works offline, and it also provides fallback in case you lose your phone.

Link: http://code.google.com/p/google-authenticator/

LOL. It's such a coincidence! I have started working on Google Authenticator two hours ago (1 hour earlier than your post).

It's going to be up in 10 minutes! Stay tuned!

It's LIVE! Two-factor authentication!
