well it's been over 8 hours now & I haven't heard anything, not that I was expecting to of course & I'm still unable to withdraw my slowly dwindling Net Value balance now at $350.99 or liquidate or do anything at all on my Bitcoinica account & yes a base price of $4,389,544,719,889,099,776 hmmm - a little steep maybe  Undecided

Try this:

Buy 0.03 ฿, and the liquidate again.
502  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 19, 2012, 02:05:09 PM
question: how long does it take to get your account verified? I did start the verification a good week ago, the process page still tells me it's pending, and I didnt get any notification by mail. Also: What are the limits for (un)verified accounts?

Currently we don't impose any restrictions other than approval of large withdrawals. There're no hard limits in place.

We will review all the documents once we finalize our terms of service and other policies.
503  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 19, 2012, 02:03:37 PM
Zhoutong, ok. The 160$ are back.
Please restore my position as offered w/ 200 BTC Leverage 5. I bought somewhere between 4.70 and 4.80. I can't see the excat buy price on the history page.

Done.

Congrats! Your account equity dropped from $160 to $138.33 after the requested change.

I don't understand why some people think the compensation is too low to cover the loss.

504  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 17, 2012, 11:44:55 PM
Well it appears I joined the boat today.  No understanding why.  The price has not moved in several days so I am not understanding why my positions sold off and liquidated.  The funny thing is I had more of my own bitcoins deposited in there than I actually purchased so to have a balance of $0 is quite impossible.  I guess this is how you recoup money that was stolen from you weeks before.  You promised to take care of everything when that happened because you had a very profitable year.  I see where the profits came from stealing from all the little people.

All I saw about your account is that you liquidated your own position and withdrew everything. Why you say that we are stealing from you?

However, we respect your freedom of trading.
then remove leverage limitations

It's for protection of ourselves. We can't liquidate a 40,000 BTC position with 4% margin requirement.

If we increase the margin requirement to the likely slippage amount, then 10:1 will instantly result in margin call.
that make sense but current situation cant go on much time because using 2.5 and paying this spreads and on top of that you can add that order refresh rate is way to slow(one refresh per second can be awesome but i dont know how the server will tank that) or the chunk set 50btc is way to little, there is not much point in having many bitcoins on bitcoinica

We are improving the system to provide dynamic liquidity instead of the fixed 50 btc.

Thanks for the comments!
506  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinica's fraud actions on: March 17, 2012, 02:19:24 PM
My advice: go ahead with what you're doing until you realize you're wrong.

We really want to serve our customers in the best possible way we can, but really unfortunately, fulfilling unreasonable requests isn't a sustainable measure of customer service.

Again, we make profits regardless of your profits and losses. We lose money (or potential profit) in two cases:

1. Someone is unhappy about Bitcoinica and left us.
2. We're unable to liquidate a huge position in case of market volatility and result in negative balances (which are permanent debts 90% of the time).

What we have always been doing is to reduce these situations as much as possible.

EDIT:

Generally, it's obvious that the more people making profits on Bitcoinica, the better for everyone. We're never against you.

Someone had enough money to move all of mtgox by $2 within a short time window around that period. You can't predict how much bitcoinica hedges, but if you move the mtgox price by $2 (up and down), you can be pretty sure a lot of leveraged positions (in both directions) are going to get fucked hard.

It wasn't as if there wasn't notice - this thread three days beforehand in the speculation topic;

Could I drive up the Bitcoin price with a clearing purchase?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=68120.msg793859#msg793859

anyone with that much leverage and amount should be constantly watching the forums and taking into account actions such as the above. Even if he didn't make that purchase in the end, someone did.

That's me Smiley

We never advocate excessive leverage and deliberate squeeze.

Forced liquidations do not contribute to the long-term growth of the Bitcoinica platform at all. So we won't partner with anyone who is interested in squeezing other customers either.

However, we respect your freedom of trading. You're welcome to utilize Bitcoinica for your Bitcoin investments.

At the same time, we want to warn everyone with a large amount of leverage to watch out for market risks.
509  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 16, 2012, 10:34:23 PM
If I am making up the problem as you say there should be no problem in simply restoring my position.

EDIT: If the bad ticks had not happend I would have had more than 300$. Now I only have 160$ and you blaming me for using a high leverage.

We can restore your position. But you must return the $160 compensation first. Now you have withdrew everything.

Your original unrealized profit is $105 at correct price, and the liquidation resulted in a $59 loss. Where is the $300?
510  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 16, 2012, 07:06:31 AM
OK.

Position #10654 liquidated @ 4.4749 (Forced)

Only 160$ refund. No coins back. Please explain that.

If not wrong, it's a 200 BTC position (with huge leverage!). We accidentally forced you to sell it at 12% below market price, and we compensated at least 16%.

You could buy back at $5.27 and still make a profit.

EDIT: Why do you anticipate BTC refund when Bitcoinica loaned you the money to purchase the Bitcoins in the first place?
511  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 16, 2012, 06:46:36 AM
Zhoutong, please give more details!

Please explain why you are offering ZERO SPREADS for the bad ticks to all customers instead of giving a full refund to those who suffered most?

Thats smells like the beginning of the end. No refunds. Zero spreads. More customers for you. More profit when close bitcoinica down and run away with all our money. That is quite easy to anticipate.

Biconica will soon be the next Bitcoin7!! It's a shame.

Take out your money, people or you will loose it all.

We have refunded everyone who genuinely suffered. (They are the people who were forced to sell below $4.5. That's our fault.)

We don't give refunds to people who were forced to buy at high prices, because they should be liquidated anyway. (Even if we re-enable their positions, they will still be liquidated immediately.)

There're some people out there who got confused.
512  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 16, 2012, 04:51:01 AM
There's nothing wrong with the ask ticks unless you have stop orders being executed incorrectly.

Forced liquidations should take place at $5.47. Only the execution under $4.5 was incorrect.

Forced liquidation took place when mtgox price was 5.13. You liquidated me at 5.47.
Nothing correct in this action.

Refer to our open interest chart and you'll know that we had huge amounts of positions to liquidate at that time. Our algorithm decided that 5.47 is the equilibrium price. And the market reaches that level after a few seconds.

We have lost thousands of dollars due to slippage because of the uncollectible negative balances. If we could reduce slippage, we would definitely do.

Hello Zhoutong!

Ok. Thank you for the compensation!

BUT

1)
200 BTC w/ leverage of 5 = 40 BTC = 40 * 5,35$ = 214$
214$ - compensation of 160$ = 54$ missing

2)
Missed profits: Bought @ ~4,75, ~0,60$ price increase = 0,60$ * 40 * 5 = 120$

So what about these 174$ (120$ + 54$) ?

Maybe my calculation is not 100% correct but it sure points in the right direction.

I don't think it is fair that you hold the users responsible for errors in your code.
I would like to have my long position restored with 200 BTC 5:1 Leverage. Buy price ~4,75$.

Regards,
Fydel

There's no "missed profits" because we have compensated the difference between the liquidation price and the current price (which was less than $0.Cool. It's like a forced liquidation at the price point of AT LEAST $5.27, so you're free to re-establish your positions without losing anything.
515  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 13, 2012, 11:47:23 PM
Also, it's worth pointing out that less than 1% of customers were affected at all. We've never experienced similar problems in the past either.

We have already taken appropriate actions to prevent this from happening again. Everything is back to normal now.

well except for my account balance atm, you credited me with $600 & I don't want $ - I want my BTC back & there's way more that needs adjusting to get this so I'm not being ripped off, will add figures latter

You can use the Exchange feature to exchange it to BTC yourself. With our zero-spread promotion, you don't have to pay anything extra to convert your currency.
516  Economy / Speculation / Zero-spread on Bitcoinica on: March 13, 2012, 11:43:38 PM
We are offering zero-spread on Bitcoinica again for the next 12 hours to thank you for your kind co-operation in our bad-tick-incidence a few hours ago.

The rules are the same as before, just market depth, no mark-up spreads. We will pay Mt. Gox fees for hedging ourselves.

In case you didn't notice, we have already sent out compensations of $0.80 per BTC for all liquidated short positions. You can check your ledger for that.

Zhoutong,

The cash deposit received on my account in no way covers the losses my current position has taken from this error. You need to check your numbers as this is in no way even close to satisfactory or even better reverse the trades.

You're one of the customers with stop orders. And we couldn't locate your stop orders accurately when we process the compensations.

Now it's fixed, please check again. Thank you!
519  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 13, 2012, 11:31:01 PM

Hi,

We just experienced a system error that caused a few bad ticks. Everything is back to normal.

We are deciding on the compensations for affected customers. Compensation will be in the form of cash credits. So feel free to re-establish your positions if you're affected.

We apologize for the error and we will get back to you shortly. Thanks for understanding!
