The Manipulator reveals the drop to be a ruse! Grin

Wow, that was fast!
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So how did YOU first hear about bitcoin? on: June 08, 2013, 03:08:21 PM
I was buying a video card to replace my broken one and the reviews used hash rates as benchmarks, so I was intrigued... Smiley
65  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: FAQ suggestions for new exchange (kraken.com) on: June 08, 2013, 04:13:29 AM
I hope everyone realizes how bullish this all is.

An exchange that is
> written by competent people
> fully compliant with regulations
> highly responsive on the forums
> easy to deposit to and withdraw from

would be a godsend and apparently this one is at least 3 out of those 4.

Wonder how he will freeze the rest of his assets Smiley Gold?

The government gets like 40% of your money when you die.

Dumping 1M into bitcoin, wake up in 95 years, have 150 trillion?

... Or wake up with nothing. Don't forget that possibility.

He's going to wake up with nothing anyways due to inflation taking all the value out of his billion.  Seriously, I don't know what asset would be safe enough to put a large amount of money in for a century...
67  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox Not Wiring on: June 07, 2013, 07:05:03 PM
Nope, I usually receive funds within 24 hours

Yeah, every report I've heard concerning US withdraws suggests that they're mildly backed up but operating pretty much normally right now.

Anyone seeing a trend with these 5 am dumps?

Whale who sold 25k must be happy right about now.
70  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: June 07, 2013, 03:55:42 AM
who keeps dumping?
71  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: June 07, 2013, 03:43:46 AM
Given the current stability, I'm hesitant to characterize this as a 2011 burst rather than a late 2012-type correction.

Also the 2011 bubble inflated much higher, much faster, for much less reason. This time there was a lot of reason for a decent rise, and it rose less and slower. It just makes sense that it would fall less far in the aftermath.

Agreed.

73  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt Gox now adding 1 week processing time to Wire Transfer withdrawals on: June 07, 2013, 12:51:57 AM
5 days and counting.  Still not even processed yet.

Has anyone been able to withdraw USD this week?

I believe I did see a report of someone successfully receiving USD this week.

All that needs to happen for the price to start rocketing again is for the big VCs to back a fully-registered, convenient-to-use, stable and secure exchange, eliminating all uncertainty from the market.  Is that so far out of the question?
Every major down-spike in the last few weeks has been due to the government or MtGox doing something wrong, but with all the VC money flowing in, things are going to get better.

I can't wait to see what Bitcoin looks like on New Year's Day 2014 Smiley

The latest wave of seizures was actually announced in the LR warrant a while ago, so they are no surprise.

Fiat coming back slowly, I think $1m has reappeared since the whale sold.
77  Economy / Speculation / Re: "Mt. Gox user accounts will have to be verified." (or use Bitcoin) on: May 31, 2013, 01:58:19 AM
I really do not see the events of this month being bullish for Bitcoin unfortunately.  Fundamentally... if BTC cannot enter the economy then the price stagnates at best... decreases at worst.

I have been blogging about my technical analysis of Bitcoin but I have made a decision today to start cashing out through the remaining exchanges to limit my worst case risk.
http://www.adventcarraig.com/2013/05/30/bitcoin-concerns/

You have been cherrypicking the worst events to justify your bearish emotions.

On the positive side, millions of dollars of VC funds are flowing into the system, and a better, regulation-compliant exchange that WILL reduce friction between bitcoin-world and fiat-world while eliminating regulatory risk is bound to come out of it, among other great services.  We are simply seeing a move into legitimacy.

Holy selloff batman!

Or, holy shakedown

Still it amazes me how little it goes down.
A sell like this was enough for a drop to 110 dollars a while back...now it drops a few dollars. People don't panic anymore like they used to do.
Instead it seems people consider it a great opportunity to buy "cheap coins".
I could be wrong but that's the feeling i have.

I get that feeling too.  Maybe it's because every panic has been beaten back so well.  I still remember the panic to $98 being turned straight around back to >$110.
79  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Look at this link - I think it's a very positive change in policy for MTGox on: May 30, 2013, 06:43:32 PM
2)
if you try to withdraw your bitcoins/usd/money... you need to get verified... and provide all their requirements... (heck they can ask for the color of your underwear too?)

= VERY HARD WITHDRAWAL
How is taking a photo of your ID card and a bill, and uploading the two digital files to them "very hard"?

The verification doesn't even take that long these days.  It's about 24 hours at most, and the queue is a few hundred long.

Prosecutors said 45 bank accounts have been restrained or seized.
According to the indictment, three Westpac accounts held in the name of Technocash Ltd contained $US36.9 million ($A38.4 million).

MtGox uses technocash as a deposit method in Australia. Is this collateral damage to Bitcoin? Or is this intended?

This title is misleading...
Also gox probably hardly had any money in the accounts.
