1621  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. (Resolved) on: July 14, 2022, 02:32:31 PM
OK, I am very glad to see that Preev.com is online again. I hope the person or persons behind this site will provide contact details for us to notify them when the site is down.

Looking at the site statistics and the hits Preev.com are getting, I will also suggest that the developers behind the site might consider adding a donation address for people to help with the funding for the site.  Wink

In any way.... Thank you very much for all your inputs.  Wink
That's great news, I'm glad it's back, it's the most convenient way to convert USD to Bitcoin, without needing to bookmark websites or use Google Search. I also wouldn't mind donating to the cause, in order to support the website, since it's not generating any kind of income, despite the increased traffic it's receiving.
1622  Economy / Economics / Re: Good and Evil money — The Morality of earning Money/Rewards on: July 13, 2022, 02:25:02 PM
This is not how things work in the real world. You got cheated of $700, and paid only $300 you think the value is going to magically reflect in your $300? This reminds of bible story of Jesus feeding the multitude with five loaves of bread and two fishes.
Seriously.  I think I understand what OP is trying to say, but if indeed I do it sounds very much like magical thinking--and I guess you could consider religion to be one of the most popular examples of that (and no doubt the most acceptable one).

I don't believe in karma either.  Why?  Because really awful, nasty, evil human beings can become very successful in life and enjoy things others only dream of.  Whether any of that makes them truly happy or not is up for debate, but the fact remains that if bad deeds equated with some supernatural retribution, I'm not buying it.  Good people get screwed all the time.  So I don't agree with OP's assertion that there's any special moral characteristic that can be attributed to money.
While I also understand OP's point of view, it's just a religious superstition that evil is always punished, it's not. Money has been made in billions with nasty ways and the majority of people who did, didn't get "punished" for it.

I don't believe in god, nor superstitions or karma. I find the concept of karma pretty invalid. Like The Pharmacist suggested, evil people get successful or get what they desire and never get screwed over their actions. On the other hand, I find it sickening to believe that if someone misconducted in the past but something undesirable happened to them in the future, illness for instance, it's their karma hitting back. It's an awful way of thinking, we're responsible for our own actions and only, and it's them that are in our control.
1623  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Never sell for a loss - is a Myth !! on: July 12, 2022, 11:57:12 AM
Certainly a myth and wouldn't follow such a bold statement, may be applicable for Bitcoin or Ethereum, but definitely not for altcoins. I sold Fantom at a loss a few months ago and if I hadn't, I would have lost more than 70% of my investment. The same thing goes for UST/Terra, I sold at $0.90 only for it to proceed and crash a few hours later.

You must be luck enough in that case because you sold UST right before the eternal collapse.
Even I had invested in Fantom but not really much. I haven't sold any of my coins as of now.
I don't really have an option now since it looks like we are at a bottom. Selling now would be a big mistake.
Fantom was promising but started crashing at a much larger rate than the other altcoins, enough to get me worried and decided to sell at a loss.

UST on the other hand went downhill from that point, I sold at approximately $0.85-0.90, don't remember exactly because it was quite some time ago. I did suffer a loss but I saved more than 85% of my money, which I would have lost otherwise.

I didn't lose much compared to others, but if we express it as a percentage, I lost a good 10-15% from each case. Anyway, turns out that I would have lost a lot more money if I hadn't sold at a loss.
1624  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: July 11, 2022, 07:44:06 PM
And the Euro is pretty much equal to the USD now. Google displays the exchange rate equal right now.

The current rate is at 1.0040 EUR/USD, and lit's falling as we speak. Things are not looking good.

1625  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. on: July 11, 2022, 10:18:50 AM
judging by the whois information of the preev.com domain, I'm almost sure it's a hosting problem.
the domain has been extended until 2025, so there is no problem with that.
the first time the hosting was purchased is on June '11. So, it would be said that the annual hosting extension comes in this period.

if the owner of the preev.com service somehow gets to this topic, I offer hosting as a donation for that service, without any compensation or fee.
That's very kind of you! You're awesome, I'll also be willing to cover a part of the donation by dropping a few bucks. I don't have the luxury of paying for the whole year, but could possibly cover a month or two.
1626  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. on: July 11, 2022, 10:00:04 AM
There's no need to reinvent the wheel, there are many alternatives which already mentioned. There are even open source one such as https://github.com/handsomelatino/btc2fiat.

I'm curious, though, is there any way to contact the owner of the website?

Let's see,
1. From archived preev.com page[1], i couldn't find any contact info (such as email address).
2. Looking at it's whois information[2], it only show contact info of domain services.
3. His account on Bitcointalk[3] was last accessed on 2015.

That sucks, certainly, hosting isn't expensive nowadays, the domain however, due to the increase traffic it receives is probably worth a few thousand bucks. The .net alternative isn't that costly, though, while Namecheap recommended me Preee.com for $2.500. That's too bad, because this website could also have an advertisement or two, just to cover its maintenance costs.

However, isn't the hosting that has expired and not the domain? Providing that hosting isn't that expensive, we can't be exactly sure if lack of money is what caused this website to go down, but a possible health or personal issue?

Nevertheless, it's a shame.
1627  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. on: July 11, 2022, 08:53:26 AM
Still down, and so are the chances of its revival. Unless someone decides to buy the domain and the hosting from the original owner, my best guess is that it won't return. I'm curious, though, is there any way to contact the owner of the website? How much would it cost to run such a simple page? Perhaps someone could be interested in buying it, even from the forum, since it's a very well-known and easy to remember address.
1628  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How I Almost Gave Scammers Access To My wallet This Morning. on: July 10, 2022, 09:22:42 PM
Have come to the conclusion that staying away from telegram + keeping pvk/seed phrase actually private roots out most of scams.

Telegram is just a means of communication that has some flaws that scammers take advantage of, but it is actually the fault of naive users who communicate with unknown people or are convinced that they are communicating with someone who is legitimate. Therefore, I would say that you should always be 100% on your guard, and in addition, never keep all your coins in a hot wallet, which will prevent a major accident from happening, even if at some point we lose our guard.

I can't remember if it was related to MetaMask, but I know that some guy lost a large amount of money because he did something stupid at one point (before or after sleeping) and it was a programmer or something like that. Everyone can have a moment of weakness, but it is not nuclear physics to have at least two crypto wallets where one is secured and a little more difficult to access.
Certainly not the platform's fault. All popular platforms are filled with scammers, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, email providers, it's not easy to contain them. You can't blame Facebook for having so many fake/scam profiles, it's impossible to avoid every single one of them.

The best we can do as users is to report such scammers, stopping their power by getting their accounts banned and eventually, limiting them from scamming other people.
1629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Hodlers are actively buying bitcoin these days on: July 10, 2022, 08:42:29 PM
Apart from the obvious the chart is presenting, which is the possible increased accumulation of Bitcoin, it also shows that people are confident in Bitcoin's recovery in the future, which is definitely positive. I wish the condition wasn't that bad, because I'd buy too, but due to the economic recession and uncertainty we're currently going through, I can't afford to use much, if any, of my salary for investments.

1631  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How I Almost Gave Scammers Access To My wallet This Morning. on: July 10, 2022, 02:44:39 PM
Almost happened to me a year ago, through Discord though. I was asking a legitimate question on a coin's group, if I am not mistaken. I was quickly messaged from someone posing as an administrator, trying to advice/pursuade me into using a platform to increase my yield. I literally don't know how I fell for such a stupid scam. I was exhausted and had just returned from work, but still it's no excuse.

Likewise, I tried to connect my wallet to that so-called platform, which informed me that I'd have to connect manually through private key because the automatic connection was unavailable. Stupidly I did, but regretted it right away and my instincts woke up. Instantly made a new wallet, unstaked from any platforms and move all my funds there. They didn't get a single dollar from me, but after talking to a real moderator from the group, a couple more had got scammed by others that day, losing up to $10.000.
1632  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Take This 2 Minutes Nine Step Quiz To Access Yourself In Gambling on: July 10, 2022, 01:01:05 PM
Moderate gambler too, however, I'm not quite sure how accurate these tests are. I'm considering myself a low-risk gambler due to how frequently and how much I gamble, something that the quiz doesn't take into account. The questions are pretty general in my opinion and should not be taken for granted. Obviously, if gambling is causing you problems in your daily life, either financially or mentally, you should seek help.
1633  Economy / Speculation / Re: Have we reached a bottom price for BTC? on: July 10, 2022, 09:19:25 AM
Bitcoins now a days are really very unpredictable.
Yesterday I saw BTC jumping from 20k usd to 22k usd, and now again back to 21k usd.
So the price is really very unstable at the moment.
At the moment if we see at the price chart, then we can find a lots of ups and down.
It will take at least 3 more weeks to break the resistance and come out for BTC. If BTC fail to do so, then the price will fall more.
So yes can’t say about reaching bottom price, but yes BTC will struggle in the 20-25k range for more time.
It was always unpredictable, a price change of $1.000 is nothing for Bitcoin and could occur within a matter of minutes, it's not really something to be noted. Bitcoin has somewhat stabilized the past few weeks, ranging from $19.000 to $21.000, which is relatively stable from my point of view. In my opinion, Bitcoin is bound to crash even further due to the economic recession we're going through, with the worst yet to come.
1634  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: July 09, 2022, 01:15:52 PM
We're pretty much screwed then. It's fairly easy to claim that the sanctions against Russia have backfired by ruining our own economy, while Russia is flourishing by its increase in crude oil sales. Just think that if Germany is willing to take such drastic measures, which is a strong economy by itself, imagine what other countries will have to go through, such as Italy or Greece.

Such great dependence on someone or something is never good, because you never know when that someone will change the rules of the game and leave you stranded. The Russians planned everything long before they occupied Crimea, and regardless of all the warnings from the US that an even bigger war is coming in the future, the EU did nothing to become less dependent on Russian oil and gas.

If someone wonders why they pretended to be blind, then part of the answer lies in the fact that some of the most powerful people in the EU were deeply connected to the largest Russian companies, such as the former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder.

Unfortunately, this information is correct and it will be another big blow for my country, which, according to various independent experts, could not have chosen a worse moment to enter the Eurozone. However, the politics led by domestic politicians is fundamentally anti-national in all segments of life, and the people do not ask anything because it is easier to send a man to the moon than to hold a referendum. A few days ago, the finance minister resigned irrevocably for unknown reasons, and I don't find it strange considering that joining the eurozone will be an even bigger blow to the standard of all citizens - who would want to sit in a hot seat when everything goes downhill...
Europe was too dependent on Russian oil, it goes without saying that sanctions were expected to backfire, Russia had taken that into account before starting the war, Europe on the other hand, not so much. Certainly, this seems to be the worst period to enter the Eurozone, in my opinion, joining the Eurozone despite the situation isn't a great idea. Some countries are way better off using their own currency. I'm expecting that the living cost will get more expensive for Croatia soon.
1635  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. on: July 09, 2022, 12:20:29 PM
Huge bummer, tried to access the website yesterday to calculate how much I'll get in BTC from my signature campaign, but it was down. At first, I thought (more like hoped) that it was something wrong from my side, but it was clear that it wasn't. It was the first site I used to check Bitcoin's price, since 2013, and it's sad to see it go. It was simple and convenient to use.

If I'm not mistaken, I read that Croatia will be adopting Euro from 2023, is it true? If I were you, I'd rather not join the Eurozone.

What are your thoughts? Will Euro's value fall lower than the U.S. Dollar? One thing is certain though, we're going to go through a tough time in the very near future.

That sounds awful. Even if crude oil decreases in value in the future, we'll still be screwed due to the rate of exchange, rendering imports a lot more expensive than they used to.
1637  Economy / Economics / U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: July 08, 2022, 11:23:54 AM
For the first time in 20 years, the U.S. dollar has been surging so much that the Euro sinks towards parity with the Dollar, currently trading at €1/$1.01, being almost equal. This is a threat to both Europe and USA, since imports are now much more costly for Europe. The exchange rate is also driving oil prices up, since purchasing a barrel of oil valued at $100, now costs €98-99 for Europe, while a few months ago, the same barrel would cost €80-90 at most.

Goldman Sachs warned that the Eurozone is on the edge of recession, especially with Russia's decision to cut CNG supplies to Europe, resulting in huge surges in prices.  While the war in Ukraine hasn't affected USA as much as it has Europe, it has magnified oil and gas prices, punishing European consumers with the surging living costs.

What are your thoughts? Will Euro's value fall lower than the U.S. Dollar? One thing is certain though, we're going to go through a tough time in the very near future.

Edit: Thanks LoyceMobile, I meant to say that U.S. exports are much more costly for Europe, bad phrasing.
1638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do Anyone Think Luna Will Recover? on: July 08, 2022, 10:20:23 AM
A few days ago, I was having a conversation with a friend about USTC and its chances of recovery. It was then valued at $0.005, and we thought it is/was impossible to see any kind of recovery. However, we were proven wrong a few days later, since it climbed up to $0.05, jumping 10 times its previous value. It'd be a decent opportunity if someone had actually bought at half a cent.

However, despite that effort, I highly doubt that it'll ever return to normal, same goes for Luna. There might be a small recovery, but it'll be nothing compared to what it was in the past.
1639  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin scenario crashing to $20.000 - $23.000 on: July 07, 2022, 08:21:02 PM
Today the price is up about 2% but still around $19k, hopefully it will return to $23k tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, and the next target is July can return to $40k, nothing is impossible because rising tens of percent has happened and often happens in a day.
I don't expect a $40k soon, we are in a bear market so the price will likely go down. Actually, we can consider the current price as the bottom already as it's very cheap versus its ATH, but it's up to you. It's okay to remain optimistic but we have to understand the current situation and we can only do that if we are realistic.
It's currently sitting $21.700, seeing an increase of over 7.12%, which is interesting and I'm curious if something specific triggered this small price rally. Nevertheless, it's quite doubtful that it'll continue, chances are, due to the economic recession that we're bound to go through, Bitcoin will be no exception to the rule.
1640  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BITSTAMP exchange biased rule that chased users away on: July 07, 2022, 03:59:07 PM
From my point of view, this exchange seems to be going downhill, it charges extravagant trading fees, 0.5% compared to 0.10% Binance's. It's the main reason I quit the exchange and never plan to return ever again. I received multiple emails to upload more documentation or they'd close my account, despite it being inactive for over a year.
