1781  Economy / Economics / Re: Buy? . . . Nah, hang on a minute. on: May 13, 2022, 02:17:59 PM
I'd say it's better if you not invest on crypto aka shitcoins, but just invest in Bitcoin. The rule of buy low and sell high can't be used on shitcoins because they doesn't have any fundamental and easier to manipulated due to low market cap + centralized. Bitcoin is the only one coin who have fundamental and you can analyze how much it will goes to bottom etc. Looking on 200 week moving average the bottom may likely around $24,500, however no one can know does it will happen or not, but at least it can help your decision.

If you didn't have good analysis, you do Dollar Cost Averaging by buy Bitcoin every day/week/biweekly/month in any prices. So in the long term based on Bitcoin's history, you'll enjoy the profit.
Totally agree, stick to Bitcoin, or at least some trusted altcoins such as Ethereum, Litecoin and possibly Binance. People got screwed over with Luna, investing in overly hyped coins that supposedly showed huge potential but quickly came to an end. It's really saddening, because myself included lost money that I had put on UST, thinking they were safe, only to be proven wrong.

Despite the fact that Bitcoin has lost over 50% of its value since November, I'm not too worried. I'm patient enough to wait and trust its potential, if it was any other altcoin, I'd be extremely frustrated right now.
1782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Concern of illegal use of crypto on: May 12, 2022, 06:39:32 PM
It infuriates me when people claim that cryptocurrencies are the root of all evil. I fully understand that they are used in illegal activities, such as buying/selling drug substances, guns, illegal accounts etc. on Darknet markets, however, fiat is still the primary currency being used for this kind of illegal activities. Alright, ban cryptocurrencies to avoid such incidents, because that should do it!

It's just an effort from governments in order to spread FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt). After all, they don't want people using crypto on top of Fiat. I've said that many times already. You and I know that Fiat is heavily used for illegal activities (not crypto). Which criminal would want to use something as widely unpredictable and unstable as crypto itself?

Considering that most merchants and businesses accept Fiat, there's every reason to ignore crypto in the first place. I'd prefer crypto to be as distant from criminals as possible in order to get the green light from governments worldwide. It's a good thing major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum are transparent by design, else they would've been completely rejected by the government by now. As long as decentralization prevails, nothing else matters. Just my thoughts Grin
It certainly is a coordinated attack against cryptocurrencies. Crypto is extremely new to be liable for even 5% of conducted illegal activities. There are certainly ongoing activities in the Darknet, revolving Bitcoin, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. I never claimed myself that it's a replacement for fiat, these two could easily co-exist, with a few regulations probably, I don't get why governments are so negative regarding their adoption.
1783  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Potential to Drop in the $32k Area on: May 11, 2022, 07:13:50 PM
Ok, so we're right in the drop zone right now. Again. Thought we might see a bounce after 29k but turned out to be absolutely and pitifully weak, we've just slid right down about 6% and might even get a new low in next hours, and then I'm really not sure if we survive above 25k by Sunday.

^No news update can save this current flop. Hang on tight.
On top of that, the whole situation with Luna and UST isn't helping, and certainly became the icing on the cake. This incident also creates a distressing situation environment regarding cryptocurrencies, which will have a devastating effect on the market in the long-term as people will deem cryptocurrencies as manipulated assets, ponzis and scams.
1784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terra USD, proved its not a stablecoin on: May 11, 2022, 10:13:21 AM
Up to this point, it seems that there is no return, Terra has failed, while conducting any kind of purchase is currently considered a gamble. Do Kwon made two tweets about a future plan in order to save UST, but no details. Hours later, he made another tweet, mentioning to stay strong, but still no details about how UST would be saved. If there was an actual plan, he would have shared the details in an attempt to resolve the tension between Investors.

Honestly, I'm pretty certain that this is the end, my condolences to anyone who lost money during this incident, myself included unfortunately. Stay strong.
1785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terra USD, proved its not a stablecoin on: May 10, 2022, 11:41:13 PM
The price that was 0.67$ have now crossed $0.76 which is good recovery. The team have given proper detail on this case and has been working to make the market stabilize. Stablecoins were the safe haven when the market is downwards. It was the first attempt by a team to make the dollar peg through a algorithmic process. Anyhow the team will bring back the price to $1, and many will be investing now for assured return.
Still, its future is extremely vague, it will lose its status. I'm honestly devastated, because I actually sold my UST, which I had unstaked. Personally, making any kind of move looks too much of a gamble to me. I'm just wondering where they'd get the funds to peg UST to $1 again, when Luna's market cap is half of UST's.
1786  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terra USD, proved its not a stablecoin on: May 10, 2022, 08:27:25 PM
I think when UST drop until 0.6$ can't called again with stable coin because not have meaning and function as stable coin for UST with Luna network.
USDT also fell because of the FUD news factor due to spam chain messages sent via email, I don't associate with UST even though both coins are stable but both are stable experiencing the same thing falling from the price of $1.
I don't see any significant fall in the past 24 hours regarding USDT. Are you sure about that? Because it doesn't sound like a legitimate source. Anyway, back to UST, Do Kwon tweeted that he should be making an announcement on how to recover UST back to its $1 peg. While it has gone pretty close to that (higher was 0.95 if I'm not mistaken), it still struggles to go beyond that. I believe that action will be taken in order to save it.
1787  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terra USD, proved its not a stablecoin on: May 10, 2022, 04:56:23 AM
price: $.67 during the time of the post

https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/terra-usd

Does anyone know why its losing its value? I havent dived into terra because i am not interested on the project. Im glad, I didnt since i think TerraUsd and Terra affect each other.

I think terra will be exposed a project that is just a big ponzi scheme.
I also don't understand why TerraUsd has dropped in price, even though other stablecoins like BUSD, USDT and USDC have always stayed at $1 as usual.
While TerraUsd has experienced a decline like other coins while conceptually TerraUsd is also a stablecoin just as good as the others, but with the current decline, TerraUsd no longer looks like a decent stablecoin.

From what I've understood, UST was backed with Luna and Bitcoin (while Luna was practically back with nothing), both volatile assets. Since Bitcoin crashed down to $30.000, they could no longer keep the peg to $1. Please, correct me if I'm wrong, that's what I quickly summarized in all this panic. I believe I got the general idea correctly.
1788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terra USD, proved its not a stablecoin on: May 10, 2022, 04:00:27 AM
Woke up an hour ago to this mess, I'm truly dumbfounded and never expected that such a thing would happen. I had a decent sum of money on a BUSD - UST vault on Beefy, which for some reason still displays my investment as 1:1. I truly don't know what to believe or to expect anymore, that's what I least expected to happen.
1789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Concern of illegal use of crypto on: May 09, 2022, 08:40:09 PM
Money laundering? Seriously, we're now blaming cryptocurrencies for that? For years, people were creating offshore companies or even non existent ones just for show in order to launder money for decades. Cryptocurrencies have been around for a few years compared to fiat, but suddenly they are to blame for everything.

Yes, I don't deny that they're being used in illegal activities, such as the darknet markets whatsoever, but they're certainly not accountable for this world corruption.

Criminals use Fiat more than crypto for money laundering activities. But governments keep pushing the narrative that crypto is used for illegal purposes in order to lure people away from it. Can you imagine what will happen if people began using crypto on top of Fiat? Governments and central banks will lose power, putting an end to bureaucracy for good. These entities still want to stay in power, so they'll do everything they can to spread misinformation and false propaganda against crypto in order to minimize its use in the mainstream world. As long as decentralization prevails, there should be nothing to worry about. Who knows if crypto gets to live alongside Fiat for generations? Just my thoughts Grin

1790  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: May 09, 2022, 04:01:03 PM
It would have been a nice thing to add demerit system in the forum and to regulate undesirable merits of users  but users will abuse it. Unless it will still control by MERIT SOURCES or you create or appoint another DEMERIT SOURCES to demerit any post that is not necessary or not worth of meriting. With that every user will be posting quality posts in the forum. Although what is quality post might be different from different demerit sources. Because they might see it from different perspective. I also suggest that if the 'demerit' should be adding, let there be DEMERIT SOURCES to that effect so that there should be check and balance in the meriting source and demeriting source and also there will be division of labor among the two organs in forum.

I really like and love your administrative work. You are neutral to everyone, both the brand Newbies and to the Legendaries, Moderators and to others. Recommendable.
Something tells me you were not there before, when and right after the merit system was introduced.

First, there was massive spam. The spam you see these days is nothing compared to it. Right after the introduction of the system, there was a lot of drama and rope all over Meta.

But time has proven that the system has helped a lot.

If demeriting was introduced. Chances of it completely messing up things would be very high.
I'm against - merit too, if someone is spamming or making extremely low quality posts, use your report button. Negative merits could be disastrous, since members could potentially take advantage of the function and targets they may not like.

I'm here since 2014, with a few breaks during that period, and pretty much remember how many people were spamming junk posts all over the forum, thinking they could easily rankup enough to be eligible to enter a signature campaign. To be honest, while it's inevitable to weed out junk posters, putting zero effort to make their posts appealing, the condition is way better than it used to be.
1791  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Quarantine measures in China, Shanghai on: May 09, 2022, 03:27:28 PM
Hello there,
Didn't see any topics referring to this matter, have you seen what's happening in China? The government has locked people inside their homes, forcing them to have daily testing, police is separating them into quarantine camps (more like concentration camps) if test comes out positive or if experiencing symptoms, even mild. It's astonishing, that all countries are easing measures, since it's yet to be proven whether lockdowns were actually effective, China on the other hand is adopting zero case policies.

This type of lockdown didn't even occur at the start of the pandemic, where the virus was way more deadlier than it is now, after going through numerous mutations, without having medication and vaccines, which enable us to have very limited casualties, compared to 2 years ago.

Not only is it saddening, but also suspicious, is China hiding something else, or is it just being paranoid, imposing tyranny over its citizens? Let me also point out that China has a history of lying to organizations such as WHO about the severity of such infectious diseases (same thing happened with both Covid and SARS).

What are your thoughts regarding this matter?

If China were in a lockdown and quarantine. Recent pictures wouldn't see people walking around, but show a "ghost town" pictures... I see people in the latest pictures. Evaluation: People can still move freely Assessment: Western media need to do more research
Depends on the area, lockdown as a form of quarantine isn't lasting forever, an old acquintance of mine who is married in Shanghai told me that parts of the city were put on strict lockdown for a couple of days (8-10~), restricting movement and so on. It's clearly not a lie that the whole situation is inhumane, Police was beating down citizens, forcing Covid-19 tests with violence, or even killing residential pets. Distorted or not, it's unacceptable.

1793  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Potential to Drop in the $32k Area on: May 08, 2022, 08:21:36 PM
Today bitcoin dropped more than 2% to around $34k, I didn't expect bitcoin to continue to drop, there was a lot of speculation that the whales were putting pressure on the price to drop so they would buy immediately, and unfortunately some of my assets like MATIC and BNB also dropped significantly and It looks like the past few days have been a tough one.
It looks like it has stabilized at $34.500 at the moment, showing no particular movement for the past few hours, after crashing down to $33.800. Although, I believe that it's highly likely that it'll continue falling and settle at approximately $30.000, before seeing any positive market movement.
1794  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia suspends gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria for failing to pay in rouble on: May 08, 2022, 06:48:35 PM
A month ago Russia had announced that it only received rubles for gas transactions, unfortunately some countries did not care too much so that gas supply was suspended, this was Russia's intelligent step to avoid sanctions and certainly made Europe more dependent on the system made by Russia.
I think the Russians had this all planned so that when there are sanctions they are not too worried,
I agree with you that it turns Europe back on what Russia does,
after all Europe still depends or needs gas from Russia and let's see what steps both sides will take in this regard
It would be extremely naive to believe that Putin didn't expect Europe's stand against him, he was prepared for the sanctions, which are definitely hurting him, at least not as much as Europe anticipated. So far, I believe that he's doing more harm in West's economy than his own, since the Russian Rumble skyrocketed after receiving it for gas and oil transactions. On the other hand, I don't see this war coming to an end anytime soon.
1795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sending Crypto to the wrong address on: May 08, 2022, 05:39:36 PM
While I've heard a few incidents (some even within the forum) of people sending money to the wrong address

I think many users find it difficulty to cope with the negative consequences of falling under this attack, and this comes ass a result of visiting some malicious sites, i always ensure to giving users am acquainted with to always ensure checking the first four and last four characters of the address copied to correspond when pasted, it is also very important not to use the select option by highlighting the address and copying it because many can make a mistake while making the selection, make use of the copy option indicating with a symbol, i think this thread will give more insight: How to lose your Bitcoins with CTRL-C CTRL-V  many members have engage on a discussion on this aspect of the attack and one could find a way to getting more secured with how to avoid such.

That's interesting, I actually never knew that there was such a malware, so thanks for providing me with that thread. Back to the subject now, as we've both mentioned already, and is also mentioned in the post you quoted me to, double-checking multiple times is the only way to prevent sending money to the wrong address. If however you're infected with such a malware, you'll need to find the root of the problem, which is the malware itself, before proceeding any further.

Edit: Wooo 2000th post.
1796  Economy / Economics / Re: Passive income : Bank interest vs staking on: May 08, 2022, 04:21:14 PM
There are quite a few instances of single asset vaults offering great APY, such as Cake, Stella, BIFI, however, you should always take into account impermanent loss, market crashes, such as the one we're experiencing now, BIFI has lost over $300 in value in the past week. You'll need to be extremely patient, especially in periods of depression, while choosing the correct project is a strenuous procedure.
I would assume that the best case in that situation is "everything going alright without a problem". When the situation is good enough that you would be doing fine unless some unexpected thing happens then there is no problem.

I mean I would see Cake and BIFI and all that as a great investment because they should be making you a good amount of money and that shouldn't be going south anything more than the market to be fair. I mean yes there are chances that it could be going down more than what it normally does and that is a problem but at the end of the day what is the chance of that? Like what’s going to happen, cake gets hacked? Doubt that.
Depends on what you're staking, as we both mentioned, options such as Cake or BIFI are relatively safe, in terms of something unexpected coming up. Price volatility, like the one we're currently going through isn't something notable, since the whole market is pretty much a mess right now, thus, if you're believing in a platform, such as Pancakeswap, Beefy.Finance, StellaSwap, your investment will eventually pay off, in the long-term, providing that you're patient enough.
1797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sending Crypto to the wrong address on: May 08, 2022, 01:16:37 PM
While I've heard a few incidents (some even within the forum) of people sending money to the wrong address, it has never happened to me. On top of that, I believe that it's a pretty basic procedure of copying and pasting the recipient's address, double looking before sending money is enough to eliminate that risk, I don't see a valid reason to develop a software or a project to reduce it
1798  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Quarantine measures in China, Shanghai on: May 08, 2022, 11:20:23 AM

Didn't notice that there were new replies on the thread. Honestly, I don't believe that it has to do anything with Taiwan, I've heard it in the past, thus I wouldn't completely rule it out. I don't trust the Chinese government at all, they could have prevented the crisis of March 2020, but decided to hide it. I have an old acquaintance of mine in Shanghai, he's married there, and as I've seen from his post, he's claiming that the measures are worse than those in the start of the pandemic.

So it's worse there? Well if it's a new variant then they better do good job keeping it in there. Although they do seem to be taking draconian measures. Just saw a vid of man still alive in a bodybag.
Unfortunately, I can't post his photos, since they are personal, but the situation is pretty bad. They are forced to stay inside at all times, while going outside comes with strict time restriction (a few minutes at most), wearing a full protective suit, from head to toe, similar to a spacesuit, for specific very specific reasons, such as picking up necessary rations etc. It's astonishing.
Yesterday I saw video about Chinese governments strict lockdown they are forcing the people stay inside the place wherever they are and screw the doors with all the people inside this is cruel and I didn't see main stream media is talking about this. Is this a sign of another uncontrollable wave so China started their preparation before everyone.
I haven't heard about this yet, however, it's true I don't see much media coverage regarding such a sensitive subject. I'm not surprised about anything, they were even euthanizing pets whose owners were found positive for Covid-19, this is madness, I couldn't imagine myself living like that.
1799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Concern of illegal use of crypto on: May 07, 2022, 09:47:14 PM

Authorities in my country say that money laundering will be more easier with crypto then with fiat.
Due to the anonymity of cryptocurrencies, it makes it easier for criminals to launder money compared to fiat I think this is justified.

Though money laundering is in full swing with fiat but authorities have no objection on that.

It's not that they don't protest, they really don't have a way to completely stop the criminals from raging.
Its natural and with time hate among government bodies for crypto will increase not lessen for an obvious reason.
It's all just an excuse to justify their hatred for crypto, they don't like bitcoin but can't find any good reason to get rid of bitcoin so they will assign any crime which can. The ultimate goal remains to prevent people from using cryptocurrencies.
Money laundering? Seriously, we're now blaming cryptocurrencies for that? For years, people were creating offshore companies or even non existent ones just for show in order to launder money for decades. Cryptocurrencies have been around for a few years compared to fiat, but suddenly they are to blame for everything.

I also found it peculiar it don't seem to be making the news on TV. Maybe they're not reporting about it coz it's election season. The only reason I'm seeing these is I get recommended vids from China-focused channels.

At this point can't really tell how serious the situation is, after all it's the CCP we're dealing with. They do seem to be taking extreme measures so it's possible it's some new strain they haven't publicized yet. They went from welding apartment doors to encaging entire streets.
Scientifically though, viruses usually become more transmittable after multiple mutations, however, their mortality rate drops. Especially with the Omicron variant, deaths have fallen significantly and we're talking about a country with 90% vaccination coverage, thus, I can't see why all this madness is occurring.

I'm not quite sure what's going on, however, I'm mostly tending towards that they are continuing a policy of zero cases, which can no longer be imposed due to the new variants.

Only time will tell.
