42  Other / Meta / Re: Member BeastBTC has hacked my account . Need help on: June 10, 2016, 09:34:30 PM
Account in question:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=803663

Code:
June 09, 2016, 02:52:19 PM - calpsy - password changed

Looks like calpsy2 is saying he made a post in this thread and the OP of that thread (BeastBTC) hacked his account and edited the post and changed it to a vouch for his service.

Calpsy2 If that is true then that means BeastBTC probably has the password to your account, as he didn't get in via email or security question, so change that password anywhere else you use it.

I looked through your posts and it doesn't look like you posted a Bitcoin address. Did you ever PM someone one? if you did there is a small chance you can claim your account back by sending theymos a signed message from the address and telling him which PM the address is in. If you didn't then low chance of you getting the account back.

BeastBTC was selling combo's here https://archive.is/VzUj5 so he probably has a leaked database from some bitcoin site and got your password from that.
43  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying bitcoin online without ID verification? on: June 10, 2016, 04:43:28 PM
Try look for a seller on https://localbitcoins.com or in the currency exchange section of the forum. But be careful not to get scammed.
44  Other / Meta / Re: selling Bitcointalk accounts shouldn't be allowed.. on: June 10, 2016, 10:10:59 AM
Facebook accepts "Baggins" as a last name and even doesn't allow some real names (unless they verify their names iirc). Cheesy

Once enough people report you (for anything, not just having a fake name), then you will be asked to provide Facebook your ID. It has happened to me countless times. It is a Facebook policy that you use your real legal name. https://www.facebook.com/help/112146705538576

If you're having trouble entering a name, change your country, language to one that uses that name and then change it back afterwards. That works most of the time.

I don't see why Facebook is not a good comparison in this respect. Facebook may take action against buying/selling, proposing that bitcointalk can consider the same.

Well for one, all of this is in vain as FB accounts are still farmed/bought/sold. And the other is facebook is a RL social media as you call it, very different situation to bitcointalk where a lot of people are anonymous and an identity could change hands without many noticing. People would notice if you sold your FB account right?

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=922574.msg10130512#msg10130512

That message is verifying for me. Not sure why minifrij is having problems. But it's true that you shouldn't have put in the extra spaces and characters.
46  Other / Meta / Re: i can't access my account! Possibly hacked on: June 10, 2016, 09:48:15 AM
Do exactly what is described in the sticky thread in this section on how to act in a situation like this:
Recovering hacked accounts or accounts with lost passwords

just done it

Thermos already paid me to my bitcoin address 16RCB5ykfMGDRoiYkRp6DGzPwaU3G7hQrQ when I was a moderator of the forum

Post the signed message here so that others can verify. That way you can stop the account from scamming someone.
47  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canadian university buckles and pays $20k in bitcoin to hackers on: June 09, 2016, 09:15:17 PM
Best way is to backup using tapes, which few organizations do in the age of the cloud.

Is that still a thing? Why would a tape be better than ...oh, any other format?

Yes tapes are still a thing because they are the cheapest per GB at $0.01/GB and have lower error rates than drives and generally last longer. http://www.overlandstorage.com/blog/?p=323

Main reason is some tapes cannot be overwritten, so its not possible for ransomware to encrypt your backups. That happens quite a lot http://www.sbsfaq.com/?p=4046
48  Other / Meta / Re: Maybe a way to verify yourself? on: June 09, 2016, 08:07:01 PM
Problem is having the scammers ID hasn't proved useful on lending sites like BTCJam. On BTCJam many scammers used their own ID, but they could also use stolen ID's. It would only create a false sense of security and probably lead to more people getting scammed.
49  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - The World's Most Popular Bitcoin Game on: June 09, 2016, 08:01:04 PM
Is SatoshiDICE.com working properly for everyone else today? Seems slow to send and receive.

Nope it's not working properly.

http://isup.me/satoshidice.com

It's up for me. http://isup.me/satoshidice.com is maybe checking from a U.S. IP.

It's working now, but wasn't working earlier. I checked it from my PC as well, not just isup.me
50  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tor developer allegedly intimidated sexual harassment victims into silence on: June 09, 2016, 07:51:35 PM
Does anyone seriously give any credence to these sort of bullshit dirty tricks anymore ? This is a manufactured none story. Reminds me of the Assange moral panic fit up. Starting to get predictable.

I don't know man. A lot of credible people have made accusations against him http://jacobappelbaum.net/ those are only a few, since the story got big more people have spoken out.
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canadian university buckles and pays $20k in bitcoin to hackers on: June 09, 2016, 05:50:32 PM
Proper, frequent backups would solve the problem. You would only lose the most recently updated changes, since the last backup.

As long as the ransomware doesn't encrypt the backups too.

If you are backing up "to the cloud", to a server or to a networked drive, then goodbye backups. And almost every large organization is primarily relying on one of those for backups.
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canadian university buckles and pays $20k in bitcoin to hackers on: June 09, 2016, 05:39:13 PM
How does this work, you pay the ransom and get a password that unlocks your computer?

Yes. Your important files are encrypted and the only way to decrypt them is using the password.

54  Other / Meta / Re: Are rules enforced equally? on: June 09, 2016, 04:26:01 PM
From what I've seen they will usually let someone evade their ban after some time has past and they follow the rules. It depends on why the person was banned and how badly they pissed off the staff member that banned them. The account that was banned won't be unbanned though.
55  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: How to find if my faucet is under BOT attack (Help) on: June 09, 2016, 04:08:12 PM
Hi,

So I did set up a new faucet and placed in the faucetbox.com list, my Satoshis seem to drain very fast and the number of payments are huge too also a huge percent of the number of payout is referral, So I just wanted to ask If my faucet became an instant hit (Unlikely) Or am I being robbed ??

Thanks in advanced
Utfull

Check your sites logs/analytics and see if you can spot lots of claims from the same or similar IP's or from proxies.

57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: AES-256 Encryption Possibly Now Broken After New Method To Speedily Factor Integ on: June 09, 2016, 03:53:22 PM
I would like to hear what a core dev like gmaxwell that posts here has to say about this, since wallets are encrypted with AES256.
If this was real, im sure they would have made a thread already telling everyone to stay cautious and they would be about to deploy a quick update-fix with a changed algo for the wallet encryption.

Nothing of this is happening so I call bullshit.

AES-256 along with most modern crypto will probably break slowly. A weakness will be found in some part of it and software using it will transition to another algo long before it is fully cracked.
58  Economy / Reputation / Re: Who is ibminer on: June 09, 2016, 03:51:31 PM
Anyways, back to the issue at hand, You have 0 transactions other than CanaryintheMine and the rest are all negative.  What exactly makes you trusted or eligible to be on the list?

From what I understand, people who leave accurate trust on others are the ones that will get added to DefaultTrust. It has nothing to do with how trustworthy you are.
59  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice.com | Most Popular & Trusted Bitcoin Game | Huge Community | Free BTC on: June 09, 2016, 03:49:11 PM
Yo ppl. This post is directed at the PD developer(s). Just a quick friendly suggestion.

When the time comes for routine maintenance, updates ect. why cant there be a bar similair to the green tip bar or a chat error that states "under maintenance shortly".

They could just write a tweet or make a post here, but I get the feeling the recent spouts of downtime are unplanned.
60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canadian university buckles and pays $20k in bitcoin to hackers on: June 09, 2016, 03:46:31 PM
This yet again... Reminds me that thread with the article saying companies are stocking up on Bitcoin to pay for data rescue to attackers. If people had backups, there would be no need to fund hackers this way and they would simply stop. If companies/schools can afford to pay this amount of money to hackers and/or "stockpile" with Bitcoin, they can afford trained staff that can secure their network and keep daily backups. Hard drives are also quite inexpensive comparing to paying attackers... But it's their money, so they do whatever they want Roll Eyes It seems people prefer to be sorry than safe. Wish I had large pockets like this University Roll Eyes

Ransomware will encrypt the backups too if it can. If the backups are stored on a server or network drive they are toast. Best way is to backup using tapes, which few organizations do in the age of the cloud.
