Hi everyone, I want to introduce myself: my name is Caitie Lustig and I am a graduate student in the Informatics department at the University of California, Irvine. I am just beginning my research on the bitcoin community and am excited to be a member of this forum. It seems like there's a lot of research about the bitcoin community that's been focused on the technical aspects of bitcoin but not the community aspect, and there's been a lot of news articles about bitcoin that are a bit sensationalist. So, I want to do something different. I really want to learn from you guys about what's actually happening in the community and why you're drawn to bitcoin. I really want to hear your stories and what you like about it. Anyway, I'll also be making another post in the next day or two that links to my survey about bitcoin. It's for the first part of my research project and if you have a chance to fill it out, it'll help me a lot. Looking forward to getting to know all of you here There is no "community". There is however a pack of starving wolves fighting tooth and flesh to get the first bite out of a cute widdle adorable baby girl dangling over the pit of wolves.

If you uploaded your avatar recently, it may have been lost in the move.
Then why doesn't it show my old one? The link is already pointing to the new one, but the image file itself wasn't carried over. Thus your image link https://bitcointalk.org/useravatars/avatar_38534.gif 404s

But what if the intent of the hack was to disrupt the bitcoin community rather than to gather information? Why? Do you seriously think anyone in power gives a damn what is being posted here? It is completely irrelevant. They have more important things to do. What could be more important than the bitcointalk dot org forums?

So, you own this site, right? And let me guess, it's also a scam to steal money?
Try harder, please.
Nope and no. Just looking to help others get ahead. Strange. I wonder how this got here then, Mr. Jensen. http://bitowners.freeforums.net/post/23/thread

We're quite surprised at how many voices are against this.
Who is this "we"? Anyways annoying people is not exactly the best way to turn people to your cause. In fact it's detrimental. See the dropbox votebox debacle for how that ends.

And he's still standing.
How do you know that? There hasn't been seen hide nor hair nor a peep heard from him for the last 5 months.

Man. I don't get how this keeps happening to you. You should think about monetizing your service.

Woah, what just happened?

We could get proactive and create a bitcoin donation address for them. John K. or some other reputable forum member could held the donated bitcoins in escrow until Wikimedia officially accepts bitcoins. If there is a decent amount of bitcoins in the donation address it might convince them in the end.
That already happened. Several times. The results were..... lackluster.

The first one is bees. BEES, man. You can't trust bees. The second one has been sold several times to increasingly shady people and is now being run out of a post office box in Kowloon Hong Kong. Regarding the third one, the forums are full of complaints about this former T-shirt-company-cum-metals-dealer not doing their job correctly.
