Is it just me, or is the website not updating? Looks like the last data in the graphs is from 28-April.
262  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: May 04, 2017, 04:01:14 PM
I cant answer for anyone else but being a quiet pod miner would always be beneficial for me. But im happy woth the noise range upto your modded S7LN.

I agree. A quiet pod miner would be very nice.

I have a sidehack modded S7LN doing it's thing about 3 feet away from my desk and it's no problem at all noise-wise. I can watch TV and have normal volume conversations with no problems.

Please add me back to the run. I was offline for a while due to networking issues between the miner and the pool. With any amount of luck this will keep working now.

Will keep my node running for a while in case anyone wishes to mine on it.

I will give advanced notice if I decide to stop running the node in the future.

Best wishes everyone Smiley

Thanks for running the pool. It's been good to me and a learning experience, too. I just migrated my miner to nasty fans.org and as a backup pointed to flamer's node: www.ukp2pool.uk:9332

267  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Recommend me a Bitcoin Miner. on: January 15, 2017, 07:59:25 PM
Without an exact amount it's still difficult to recommend a miner. A6 and S7 could work well for you, not too expensive and doesn't break as much as S9s.
I have no idea about the exact amounts. But I would prefer the one that makes less noise, lasts longer and obviously consumes less electricity. If you have any leads, that would work too.Thank you.

Unfortunately, it seems like miner development has gradually let go of trying to reduce the noise.
If you want something efficient these days, you'll have to go with something that makes a lot more noise than what miners used to do.

If noise is more important to you, you could always go with a less efficient miner. Everything would depend on how much your electricity costs exactly.

If you are talking about the primary ASIC manufacturers big(ish) TH/s miners, then yes, that is true. However, sidehack, a reputable user here on the forum, is building smaller quieter miners that could be used in a home. Check these threads for more info:

GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs

[FOR SALE - SIDEHACK STICK] GekkoScience 2PAC - 2x BM1384 USB Stick Miner

I purchased my S7LN from sidehack (he handled getting it from Bitmain, modding it, then shipping it to me) and had no problems with the transaction.

Most efficient in stock form on the market now are the Antminer S9 and Avalon A721. Both are loud, but the S9 is louder than the A721. Both require more than 1000 Watts to power.

Antminer S7s are still popular, but less efficient, and still pretty loud. If you can find an Antminer S7LN, they can be quieter, but the quietest S7LN is one that has been hacked to alter the power fed to the ASIC chains. By reducing the power you do reduce the total hash rate, but it still generates ~2 TH/s and only draws ~450 Watts. This lower power draw allows you to turn the fan speed down to 20% or so and still let the chips run hot enough (~50C) to hash properly (they do not like being "cold").

I have a sidehack modded S7LN that is drawing ~450 watts at the wall, producing ~2 TH/s, and with fans set to 20% is quiet enough to have in the office beside my desk. I can also watch TV without having the volume cranked up. See the link in my sig for the recent S7LN stats.

This last week was pretty scary! Luckily it turned around and I actually came out alive.

It was indeed a pleasant surprise to see two blocks/deposits pop up so close together after an almost 10-day stretch with no block(s). Hopefully it's back to "normal luck" of 100% plus or minus a little blocks, but with nice fat transaction fees in the blocks...
270  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Giving up real solomining and going back to solomining on p2pool on: January 14, 2017, 06:06:18 PM
If only you could always time it like that!

Dare I call it luck?
LMAO, I would say it was lucky that you started your rentals when you did and that they ended when they did, and I'd also say it was lucky that I tripled my hashpower three days before as well, but I'm half terrified of the backlash I might get if I try and say that had any effect on my luck or yours.  Wink

I dunno, kinda like "The Mining Games," in which case "Happy mining. And may the odds be ever in your favor."
271  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Giving up real solomining and going back to solomining on p2pool on: January 08, 2017, 05:04:40 AM
Did you utilize the / feature as well?

Wasn't able to get that to work for whatever reason. None of the shares were accepted when I used it. Seems to be OK though. Changing the diff works great.

Cloud mining is a scam.

Speaking of the white stuff... gotta go out and get the snowblower running.  Got a few inches to clear from the driveway Smiley

What part of NH? I used to live in Greenville, and have friends that live in Francestown, Derry, Manchester, Amherst, and Keene.

I grew up in Bedford and Manchester.  I haven't lived in NH for years, though.

Yeah, It's been over 16 years since I moved.

Back on topic: Thanks for the info about how "+" and "/" work with p2pool when added to the btc addresses. My S7LN has been much happier since I added +4096.
274  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Where to mine with 36Ths 24/7? on: January 08, 2017, 01:12:46 AM
Kano's nodes are:
  • US: stratum.kano.is
  • US: nya.kano.is
  • DE: de.kano.is
  • SG: sg.kano.is
  • JP: jp.kano.is
  • NL: nl.kano.is

I live in the US on the east coast so I'd consider using stratum.kano.is and nya.kano.is:

So for me it would be better to use nya.kano.is, but I would then put one of the other nodes as a backup pool, and then for my third pool pick a different pool altogether, and now knowing what I know about p2pool, I'd use one of the public p2pool nodes.

I was unaware Kano has two nodes in the US. Is the NYA node new? Does that stand for New York area or something to that effect? I'm on the East coast also.
Thanks! Smiley

Yes. He added it in December:

275  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Where to mine with 36Ths 24/7? on: January 08, 2017, 01:02:12 AM
My final decision is I will leave my miners at first pool kano.is for one month and will update.

These are my configuration of my miners atm and will be for one month.

0 stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333
1 stratum+tcp://stratum.antpool.com:443
2 stratum+tcp://stratum.antpool.com:25

Thanks

Depending on where you are located, kano's pool has other locations that may be a better option for you. The best way to figure out which one works best (i.e.: is closest) for you is to ping them and check the response times.

Kano's nodes are:
  • US: stratum.kano.is
  • US: nya.kano.is
  • DE: de.kano.is
  • SG: sg.kano.is
  • JP: jp.kano.is
  • NL: nl.kano.is

and all of the nodes listen on these ports:
  • 3333
  • 80
  • 81
  • 443
  • 8080

in case you have issues getting through firewalls.

I live in the US on the east coast so I'd consider using stratum.kano.is and nya.kano.is:
Code:
ping -c 10 stratum.kano.is
PING stratum.kano.is (104.194.28.194): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 104.194.28.194: icmp_seq=0 ttl=54 time=100.933 ms

64 bytes from 104.194.28.194: icmp_seq=2 ttl=54 time=100.376 ms
64 bytes from 104.194.28.194: icmp_seq=3 ttl=54 time=100.377 ms

64 bytes from 104.194.28.194: icmp_seq=9 ttl=54 time=100.743 ms

--- stratum.kano.is ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 100.172/100.561/100.933/0.268 ms

Code:
ping -c 10 nya.kano.is
PING nya.kano.is (104.207.132.42): 56 data bytes

10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 33.556/34.324/35.185/0.477 ms

So for me it would be better to use nya.kano.is, but I would then put one of the other nodes as a backup pool, and then for my third pool pick a different pool altogether, and now knowing what I know about p2pool, I'd use one of the public p2pool nodes.

edit: added port info

Unfortunately, this took a lot longer than I would have liked to get all completed, so I wont get to finish my big write up tonight... but it is done.  Eligius officially has zero BTC in funds owed to miners now.  I'll detail more on this tomorrow, but I think everyone will be pleased with this.

As mentioned, Eligius-Hu has taken over and will be fleshed out over the coming days.  I've been sparse on the details of the new system intentionally due to fears of other pools (with high fee income and thus possibly more means) taking the concept and claiming it for themselves.  For now, all shares are being processed and handled under the new reward system.  The old stats page are somewhat accurate for hash rates, but balances wont update until the new stats are brought online.  To be clear, mining is still being counted.

For now I'll note that the underlying reward system for Eligius-Hu is based partly on PPLNS with N=diff*8.  There are no shifts.  This is true PPLNS.  To solve the ramp up issue with the large N I've utilized the top of the CPPSRB share log as a starting point.  Again, even though the new stats are not online, mining is still being counted and you will be rewarded as blocks are found.

For the record, the new Eligius-Hu block tracker address is 1LfZEyNADY4A9thHu8rTh6Psd5FecMPgJ8.

Have to get some rest, but I will get my announcement done tomorrow!

Thanks! I was surprised I received a payout. I was well below the payout threshold and wasn't expecting anything. I also don't think I had mined any shares in ages...

Wow zed! You've been kicking ass finding shares the last day, extremely good luck! Now hopefully p2pool finds a block while all those shares are still valid in the sharechain!  Grin

Yes, it would seem that the S7LN likes the +4096 I added to my btc address. It settled right down and has been happily hashing away. Aside from a pre-snowstorm power outage yesterday by my local power company, all has been well.

I live in North Carolina and they are forecasting 7-12 inches of snow to fall by the time the storm ends tomorrow (saturday, so I guess that means later today given what time I am posting this on the east coast). In North Carolina anything more than a dusting causes mayhem and panic. I grew up in Massachusetts and lived in New Hampshire for a few years so snow doesn't bother me. Native North Carolinians? Well, this:

Whats up with the reported workers?  My stats show I have 38, I only actually have 2 miners.   Pool stats show over 86 thousand.
That's what we in the industry call a "bug" that needs fixing. It's only cosmetic luckily but I don't have a proper fix for it yet and it will require another restart. I've been trying to do restarts only if there is a real world improvement.

huh, at micro$oft they call it a feature and charge extra for it.
