Forgive me if this has been asked and answered - I couldn't find the answer so I'll ask the experts.
If my Alpha needs 1,000 watts + 10% and I buy 1,100 tokens on EtherDelta, does that cover the electricity or do I need tokens PLUS pay for the electricity?

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered, I didn't see it.

You need tokens and to pay for the electricity plus maintenance. The tokens will cover the cost of "renting" space, but they do not cover the cost of electricity or the maintenance fee. That combined charge be paid for with your miner's earnings.
142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PandaMiner Provides miners in stock ! on: November 27, 2017, 03:23:34 AM
Ive been offered a B5 Plus in stock for $1550 is this worthwhile?
Does anybody know if the RX 460 in the B5 Plus are 4GB or 8GB?

1550 is not a bad price, but consider the warranty issues that people have been having as well. Also there are no 8gb 460's, only 4gb.

Yes it "could" be very good, Ive seen mentions of the PSU catching fire. Im tempted to just invest the money in a rig and then I have the resale options of the GPU, Mobo etc whereas the Pandaminer might not be as easy to sell on

If memory serves me (i'm getting old, so who knows!) the PSUs were not what was burning, but rather it was crappy connectors/connections on the wires. Forcing a lot of current through a bad connection is a recipe for fire due to the heat generated.

P.S.: The impressum is in German on intention, we are required by law to have it on our Website in our native language no matter the language of the Website.

Maybe you could also include the translated text as a separate menu option?

Is it normal that Avalon 741 restart more often? Mine Avalon restart even when it's at 37 degree Celsius. Thanks

ReUp for answers

Mine have never restarted automatically, but I’ve not seen them get over 34... usually run 29-31.
Is there anyway we could the miner log to see what the problem caused it restarted. Mine restarted at -2 voltage in every 30 mins average
If you could screenshot the miner Log or copy and paste it to this thread, everyone can have a look at it, and perhaps see your problem
Please take a look and help me out. Thanks all

Having compared yours with mine, the only big difference I noticed is that your's ECHU is [16 0 0 0] where mine is [0 0 0 0]. Tried searching what that means, but couldn't find anything, maybe some other member can clarify. Also have you tried running it with a voltage offset of 0? Just curious what it would give then.
I ran it at -2. If i set it at 0, it will restart after 5-10 mins

That really sounds like a power issue to me. Check your PSU(s) and all the cables. Make sure that there are no loose connections.
145  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 242 blocks solved! on: November 27, 2017, 02:59:23 AM
Hello guys.
I would appreciate if any of you helps me with step by step giude how to start mining. Im a newbie on mining , and would like to have an explanation simple step by step.
Thank you

Step 1. Go to bitmain.com and get a miner.
Step 2. Get a power supply at the same time or use a computer power supply of 1200 watts.
Step 3. Plug into wall.
Step 4. Setup the network connection (wired) as per unit's instructions.
Step 5. Point your miner to Ck's solo pool.
Step 6. In anywhere from 1 minute to about three years, PROFIT.

Remember, mining is a game of lottery tickets. Each "share" is a ticket. You win if your ticket number is higher than the current difficulty. You could (theoretically) win on the first pull. Or you could never win. It's a game of chance with numbers in the infinity range.

Im planing in the future to buy some antminers to create a small farm. But i wanted to test it with my pc , how it works, just to become more familiar with the process.

If you want to get started with Bitcoin mining, you will need an ASIC based miner. As others have said, CPU/GPU mining of Bitcoin will teach you nothing, except perhaps how to manage frustration, and most pools (at least the good ones I know) will not allow you to mine (they will block you).

Take a look around for GekkoScience Compac or GekkoScience 2pac. They are relatively inexpensive USB based miners that use a Bitmain BM1384 chip. They will not earn you huge amounts of money, but you will learn a little bit about ASIC mining. It's how I got started in ASIC mining.

Compac support thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.0
2pac support thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1764803.0

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_13?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gekkoscience+2pac&sprefix=gekkoscience+%2Caps%2C332&crid=1WZR4LV49328O&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Agekkoscience+2pac

If you can wait for a little while, sidehack (the designer of the Compac and 2pac) is working on another BM1384 based miner. sidehack also has other small ASIC miner projects in the works, but nothing is ready yet. For more info check out this thread:

Take the time to read the thread so you are not asking questions that have already been asked and answered.

Good luck, and welcome to the insanity.  Grin

To add insult to injury s9 and d3 miner dashboards don’t display actual hashrate and power consumption. It’s like a play dashboard to fool you.

Try visiting their support website and open a feature request for these things you'd like to see them do?

https://giga-watt.zendesk.com

Doing that might get a little more traction than ranting on a forum that the Giga-Watt team doesn't read on a regular basis (based on their lack of posts here). It's also their official support website so it should be visible to them.

You are satisfied making "some" profit and do not mind people in exact business branch making 200% 300% profit as you are enjoying your thanksgiving turkey.

So troll, why are you even here? Boredom? Please.

Go earn your 200% 300% profit. We won't miss you. I promise. Believe me!

149  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 26, 2017, 03:02:59 AM
Can i mine with GekkoScience any coin with X11 or SHA256 algorithm?

It is better than a Bitmain Antminer D3 X11 ?

ASIC is short for Application Specific Integrated Circuit

Just because a miner uses an ASIC doesn't mean it can mine any algorithm. Each ASIC is designed to do one thing very well, and nothing else.

The Compac only mines with SHA256 because the ASIC is built for SHA256. There are a number of cryptocurrencies that use SHA256, but Bitcoin is the most well known and most prevalent.

The ASIC used to make the D3 is designed for X11 and nothing else. X11 comprises eleven different algorithms, but unless the ASIC designer specifically made provisions to allow the use of one (or more) of the algorithms separately, you are stuck mining X11 coins. And even if the ASIC could work with just one algorithm (rather than all 11), I would not be surprised if it was incredibly inefficient on a power per hash basis.

I have been looking for a rack to mount my GPUs/setup for a few weeks now.  Is it possible to mount the ASUS B250 Motherboard on there with a EVGA 1k PSU and potentially adding another 850w PSU in the future with 5-6 cards?

Looks like a great product but just wanted to clarify a few things as I finalize what I am going to purchase.

Has anyone received theirs that is not a newbie who has just registered, its so funny seeing people with 1 or 2 posts jump in here and find their way right to this post to say they got theirs. Seems awfully fishy to me.

nah, nothing fishy, they just figured out how to use the search feature of the forum.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: ⚡⛏️[ANN] Giga Watt: Best Home for your Mining. Starts today! on: November 26, 2017, 02:41:04 AM
To all Giga Watt investors. I wouldn't pay too much attention to all the people talking Giga Watt down. They are probably trying to get the price down so they can buy.

I have never had an issue with Giga Watt support. Yes the project has taken longer than expected but that is what happens when you are dealing with the government and something so unique.

I was in batch 3 and am currently renting out 70% of my tokens. So far so good.

So you have No miners there I guess...
I am happy that your happy, really. Just one thing, if you counting Getting roi and profits Just from renting tokens, think about this:
What happens when All the investors who bought or send miners to gigawatt stop hosting their miners there? Who is gonna rent your tokens? I am not buying 1 more miner or token for example. If you just visit their telegram chanel you would see how frustrated people are with them... This is not how you build a good business. I joined the crypto movement for money but also because of ideology. Giga-watt is as bad as the US goverment

My investment thesis with GigaWatt and WTT is that it provides access to electricity that is far less expensive than where I am physically located and for a long time. My investment in GigaWatt and WTT is long term, and I am not looking for an almost immediate 100% ROI. Yeah, I know, that's really strange in the cryptocurrency world where it seems that everyone expects to achieve a 100% ROI on every investment in three months or less.

If and/or when that changes I will re-evaluate.

My investment in WTT tokens is currently at +58% https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/giga-watt-token/ and my return from token rental is 8.15% which annualizes to 38.63%. In the grand scheme of things, this is just fine by me.

Giga-watt is as bad as the US goverment

Oh please. Don't even start with that crap. This is not the forum for US government bashing. Go grind that axe somewhere else.
153  Other / Meta / Re: Measures against scams misusing the Bitcoin name on: November 26, 2017, 01:33:45 AM
So Bitcoin Cash is not alt coin.
It is a scam altcoin.

I am a small-time miner. I have a couple of SHA256 miners, and they mine the more profitable of the two. That said, I convert the mining proceeds to BTC automagically. Scam or not, I'll ride the Bitcoin Cash horse until it is not profitable, and when I am done I will say thank you.

If someone is going to play in the cryptocurrency space, they owe it to themselves to be as informed as they can get about their investment. Like any other hyped market, there are people who rush in, only to find out later that they were deceived. Life sucks like that, but you can reduce your risk by not betting the farm, or next month's rent payment, on a high-risk endeavor. Live and learn, and if you want to tell the world, that's great. Just be prepared to back up the statements with proof the rest of us spuds can trust.

I think that there is space for both coins. Which one will have staying power? I don't know for sure, so in the meantime I'm hedging my bets and mining both. Profitability is king.
154  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: November 26, 2017, 12:51:58 AM
What is the estimated price for the pods?  Grin
IMHO it will be a lot less than he *should* charge. In many ways these will become collectables much like his stick miners have. After all, they are largely hand-crafted and certainly -- unique with Limited Quantities ever made.

Spot on NFW. I have no complaints at all from my experience with sidehack's handiwork. The Compac is hashing/blinking away immediately to the left of my monitor, and the s7LN sidehack "adjusted" to make less noise is providing (less) heat a bit further to the left.
155  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: November 26, 2017, 12:31:56 AM
It is stable, averaging 8th per unit. This power supply was recommended by the distributor...

specs on cannon website
"≈ 1150W, +0% ~ +15% (with 93% PSU efficiency @ 25 C)"

so 1322W max at 93% efficiency. My PSU is only 90% efficient. But still a little high. May try switching to 240V with this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812120346

When sizing a power supply that is going to be running 24/7, you would be well served to use a power supply that is only supplying 80% of it's rated capacity. The only exception to that rule might be when you are using datacenter grade power supplies (think HP, Dell, IBM, Delta, etc.), and even then I'd be wary running those at more than 90% of rated capacity. If you are using consumer grade power supplies (think Corsair, EVGA, Rosewill, etc.) 80% is a good target level.

Also, the percent efficiency stated by power supply manufacturers is how good their unit is converting the input power to output power. If you have a 90% efficient power supply that means that if 100 Watts comes into the PSU, then ~90 Watts comes out. The conversion efficiency of any given power supply may vary with input voltage. Consult the data sheet for your power supply for more information.

Running any power supply at 100% or more of it's rated power is asking for trouble. And trouble in this case could be damaged equipment or in the worst case, fires from overworked/overloaded PSUs, connectors, and cables.

158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZenCash: Private, Secure, Resilient CryptoCurrency with zk-SNARKs on: November 12, 2017, 09:00:51 PM
I am planning to setup a securenode on VPS. Do you have any recommendations for CPU, RAM and hard dive?
CPU should be 64 bit, 4GB of ram. In this tutorial you will find examples->
https://blockoperations.com/build-zencash-secure-node-part-1-prepare-vps/
I read about VPS again and again, but is it really necessary to run the secure node on a VPS or can I also just run it on my home cumuter?
You do not have to run a secure node on a VPS. You can run it on a home computer. To be more successful, make sure:
1. port forward on your home firewall/router ports 9033 and 19033 to your computer
2. Run it on a 64 bit operating system, linux preferred
3. Buy a domain and create a fully qualified domain name that points to the ip address of your home firewall/router
4. Run the secure node tracker and put the ZEN in the locations you need to for operation.

The problem with home computer, you are exposing your IP address to everyone, and you probably have some crypto wallets there too.

Not if you have thought through your whole network config. This means on the router you use to create your home network, and on the machine(s) you are creating to add to the node pool(s). Lock down each machine as much as possible, both inbound and outbound, using the built-in firewall tools and use your router to ONLY redirect certain ports to the machine that needs to receive traffic on those ports. You can further lock down the machine(s) by disabling root login, using public/private key pairs for non-root users logging in, locking user passwords on all usernames that don't actually login, unsetting the shells for users that don't actually login (do not need shell access), and making sure to restrict what root-level access is granted to non-root users with sudo.

If you keep your wallets on the same machine you use to mine, well, that's probably a bad idea. Keep just enough coin on the machine that is a network node to meet the requirements. Store all your other coin(s) in wallet(s) on another machine.
159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Mining OS] SimpleMining.net - Easy to use GPU MINING Operating System on: November 12, 2017, 08:48:29 PM
Guys, need help.
I tried everything. MB Biostar TB250-BTC Pro, SMOS still don't see my 11 cards (All Nvidia 1070,1080 and 1070ti) What can I do more to work it out?

Start with a simple rig. Take out all but one card and make sure the rig boots and starts mining. Usually the card in the slot closest to the CPU is the "primary" video card, so make sure that's the one you start with.

There is probably a simple answer, that will probably seem obvious when you find it, but you will have to figure it out, and it will take time.

So are these guys a scam?
I'm wanting to invest big money here.
No , they are NOT scam, but have BIG delays.

Today my L3 miner finally started to mine there  Wink   2 month delay means $600 loss.   Sad But I am not completely upset. Smiley

They very well could've been mining with your hardware this whole time. So yeah, even though not a scam in the classic sense of the word, thieves nonetheless. Why do people insist on giving these people and others like them money? It's like you wanna be scammed.

To give trolls like you someone to put down so you can feel better about yourself. Really, I'm truly surprised that you didn't know that. Roll Eyes I mean it must be really hard living with yourself being so perfect and all, never making a mistake, never being scammed, never having to trust anyone. Sure is gonna suck for you when you move out of mommy's and daddy's basement and have to survive on your own, having to trust people you don't know. It's gotta be tough for a snowflake like you to get over never being quite sure if the tart taste in the tea you just ordered is actually lemon.  Grin

In the business world, people trying to do new things are taking risks, and risk means that there is a chance of failure. But what it means even more is that if successful, it can be wildly successful and wildly profitable. Investors know this.

In that business world financing comes from multiple places. When the entrepreneur uses up all of their money they go to the three "F"s: Family, Friends, and Fools. Every investor in those three categories knows full well that their investment may disappear tomorrow, just like these crypto currencies we all so love. What they also do is go into these investments knowing what they are doing. If they have done their research and due diligence. They also do not risk their entire life savings. NEVER invest more than you can afford to lose on any investment. If you are betting the money you need to pay the bills this month on a high risk investment, or any investment for that matter, that's a problem, but not for me. That's your problem, and unless it directly affects me, well, I just can't be bothered.

I've invested what I can reasonably afford to lose in Giga-Watt. If it all goes to zero, well, that'll suck for me, but it won't be the end of the day for me, either. So far there have been delays, yes, but given the nature of the enterprise that Giga-Watt is setting up, they are not completely unexpected. I am earning a return now by renting my WTT tokens, and to date I have earned 5.26% on my investment (comprised of tokens and one miner that is yet to be installed). That would be 6.31%, but the price BTC has dropped significantly, which impacts the value of my earnings directly as token rental is paid in the coin the miner "using" the token mines. Token rental to BTC miners makes up the lion's share of my rental income. I am receiving hourly payouts in BTC, ETH, LTC, and DASH. There is the possibility to receive ZEC, but to date I have not been paid any ZEC.
