I know this isn't really the place for it, but can anybody explain this DAO thing to me in simple terms?  I feel like the odds of it being a technobabble hype to obfuscate things (a lousy investment) are too high for me to put in the effort to figure it out.  But I could be wrong.  If the subject is deemed too off-topic, I ll delete this post.

To acquire DAO tokens, you can use this page to transfer Ethereum from your Poloniex account to the DAO smart contract. This will appear as an ETH withdrawal in your transaction history. Poloniex will not be charging a network fee for these transactions.

More precise validator induction rules – maximum 250 validators, minimum ether amount starts off at 1250 ETH and goes up hyperbolically with the formula min = 1250 * 250 / (250 - v) where v is the current active number of validators (ie. if there are 125 validators active, the minimum becomes 2500 ETH, if there are 225 validators active it becomes 12500 ETH, if there are 248 validators active it becomes 156250 ETH). When you are inducted, you can make bets and earn profits for up to 30 million seconds (~1 year), and after that point a special penalty of 100 parts per billion per block starts getting tacked on, making further validation unprofitable; this forces validator churn

156k ETH from us will give us a nice steady side income while other bigger projects are working away.
i think we should make a DAO proposal for the ulitmate ETH pool,
Maybe we could switch ETH annually to avoid validator churn too.
Any thoughts guys?

I dont mind newbies trying to troll lol
Sometimes im surprised at the higher level of trolls that appear here. lol
I think they been bagholding a loooooong time and fear the ETH.  Tongue
They overlook the fact that ETH & ETH projects have helped prop up BTC price alot recently.
Instead they choose to come here and make fools of themselves and look real stupid.
Major financial institutions, inc major BTC busineses worldwide are well aware of the potential and need for ETH.
Trolling ETH has no ethect...fact  Smiley

ive said this many times, halving is priced in, those that want to buy already have. There is not enough buy support to maintain a pump. Theres waaaay to many people hoping to dump on noobs at $600+...problem is even the noobs now use google and have access to a wealth of information unlike 2013 when everybody was a noob, lol.
BTC is gonna dump real hard in the next month or so..probably back to $300s over summer...then watch out for oct ( good times begin again)
BTC will pump but only after the scalabilty issue is solved ( cmon dr wright, make that super computer do sum magic ) 2017 btc will be $1k+

Akasha, a next-generation social media network powered by Ethereum and the InterPlanetary File System, was unveiled on May 3 ‒ World Press Freedom Day. The signups for the alpha release are open. The project is the brainchild of Mihai Alisie, cofounder of Bitcoin Magazine. Shocked Editor's note: Mihai Alisie was one of the original founders of Bitcoin Magazine, along with Vitalik Buterin.

im curious about the timing of Gemini adding eth, 2months before halving? Im thinkin why not after? maybe because they see the low btc volume now and know people that want to buy before already have and not many people are willing to pay over $500/$600...maybe they even expecting a huge btc dump soon.
Now if i owned one of these huge btc only exchanges i would risk losing alot of customers to fiat and them leaving crypto, so it makes sense to add another asset that customers could escape to when btc is looking shaky.
im thinking btc will pump a bit then big dump, get ready to see blood on the charts sometime next month.
