Could someone provide some info regarding running an ETC node.

What is the best way to set it up and how much resources does it consume on average (cpu, ram...).

Edit: For a headless linux server.

3,9 % CPU of 1 Core and 1050 MB Ram (with 512 MB Cache) but this node also a pool node.
A standalone node without mining would use 1 - 2 % CPU of 1 Core

Could you or someone else give a short guide on how to set up a node only in cli? No gui, no wallet.

I must say I am confused what exactly I need (mist, geth...?)

Be aware there is a major problem at poloniex with deposit and withdraw of ETC wallet not working !
Waiting since 2 hrs and +300 confirmations still not showen at deposti history or account.
Support is quite slow to no response on tickets.

Support is ok. They just have a lot of work atm. They replyed to my ticket in the 24hour time frame as stated.

What is the miners opinion on ETC?

The hash rate is dropping although the price is quite stable and going up...

Right now its the most profitable Ethash to mine.

IF:
Your pool pays all your hashes.

(read the reports in this thread for stats on the pools, some shady things there... GO SUPRNOVA if poolmining, thats my suggestion.)

But there seems to be something weird in the blockchain... or its just lagging (attacks maybe?)

I experienced some ddos issues with some pools. Currently mining on https://ethc.coin-miners.info/ and the payouts are on schedule.

I am just wandering why more miners arent joining. Its not so difficult to find a good pool. Or go solo if you have a serious farm...

how to verify on which chain i am ? could someone make a hash from a block of etc chain after the fork ?

You can verify the height. ETH chain is higher...

cloned go-ethereum from github.com/ethereumproject
Compiled and start syncing

info from eth.syncing is:

{
  currentBlock: 197,
  highestBlock: 1951540,
  knownStates: 223170,
  pulledStates: 113620,
  startingBlock: 0
}

hmmm highest Bloch: 1941540, is this ETC or ETH, not sure because ETCPool shows 1947306 as highest block....
is there a setting to sync to ETC blockchain ?

At the moment:

ETC: 1947323

ETH: 1951583

So you are on ETH

Dapps dont work on etc....etc must fork....FACT

Dude, get your meds right. They will work just fine when their devs add them to this chain. Give'em some time to sort out their stuff.

@VladZamfir Ethc will need to hardfork to isolate itself from Eth. Its Dapps will be hampered by replay attacks.

Joint Statement from Digix and Maker Regarding Hard Fork

Wherever it makes sense to do so, the "true" version of any deployed contract related to the Digix or Maker contract systems should be interpreted as residing on Ethereum (ETH) "pro-fork" chain. Any system updates will proceed as planned on ETH.

We are not responsible for any ETC stolen via replay attacks against our systems. Users are encouraged to be cautious of replays on ETC and to use a splitting contract such as the one published by Kraken to preserve any ETC they care about.

If it's open source - which should be the only thing to accept - it's easily deployable on the un-censored chain, no matter what someone else (tries) to decide - and this is how crypto should be !
cheers,
ok if etc does fork in future will that mean my etc will split into 2coins aswell...and i get a free balance again?

If its a hard fork and the exchange where you hold the coin adds the forked coin to the exchange...then yes.

But I think the idea of ETC is not to make controversial forks like ETH did. Only necessary forks that would be necessary to ensure the stability of the network (and not help bail out services running on top of the network and have nothing to do with the protocol itself).
488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: July 25, 2016, 06:58:11 PM
What happens if I buy ETH on some other exchange and just deposit to Poloniex? Will I get free ETC too?

No. They had to be bought before the fork.

And its not free

But what If i buy some ETH which was not used to move ETC yet? (Like on some forgoten exchange)

Once you move it the ETC will stay at the address you moved it from.

You would have to get a private key that had ETH on it before the fork to have both on that address now.

Well if the hash rate of ETC surpasses ETH at some point, they will probably have to re-evaluate that statement Smiley
lol after hearing that , i think its you that needs your meds m8  Tongue

Well thats just hypothetical.  That is why i used "if" and "at some point".

So etc trolls....heres when the fun begins...

How long will you bag hold before you dump your dying shitcoin? ( no pressure on us to sell as we got em free  Tongue, only those that paid are under pressure )
Those mining etc...how long will you mine an unprofitable coin...
This is like stabbing yourselfs and slowly killing yourself to prove a point...how long can you last lol
Right now there is no profit in mining etc...the race is on..either you guys buy up or your finished....FACT

Actually, you get the same return per MH/s in $ value.

are you mining $ or etc  ? lol

If you have to pay your electricity at the end of the month you usually look at the $ value.

Every mining profitability calculator is based on the $ or BTC value.

I was just trying to debunk your claim that it is an unprofitable coin. At the moment the profitability is actually slightly higher than mining ETH.

Dapps dont work on etc....etc must fork....FACT

Dapps first worked and were developed on ETC (back then it was still just ETH). They were adapted to work on (the current) ETH....FACT

Reverting back is an easy process.

This is a really good idea for DAO holders that want to go with ETC: https://steemit.com/ethereum/@logical/miscalculations-about-the-endgame-of-the-ethereum-fork-it-ain-t-over-til-it-s-over

Dump the forked ETH and buy cheap ETC. Genious  Cool
497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: July 25, 2016, 11:37:53 AM
Excuse me, maybe I don't understand so I repeat the question.

Cannot this be dumped to nothing by VitalikEther followers?

1)   they have balances in ETHClassic and they will dump them
2)  they can mine ETHClassic with their equipment and they will dump.

One thing I don't understand (related to point 1.)..
If V. Buterin had let's say 1 million ETH before HF does it mean he has now 1 million ETH AND 1 million ETC?

exactly

But this is not the fault of V. Buterin that suddenly a second coin was created, no? This coin should never be created in the first place. Look how it is dropping, the thief is just dumping all his coins on us. He will runaway with $50,000,000 and we will have a worthless coin, correct?

I doubt he is already dumping. He is probably not that stupid.

The dumpers are probably people that do not understand what a hard fork means and consider this "free money" that appeared in their polo account.

What do you meran, not so stupid? The price has been dropping a lot, so most likely he already cash out. This coin is own 80% by the thief. Around 10% was still on this fork, correct? The thief stole for $50M when ETH was trading at 0.02 or so. Now ETC has a marketcap of $60M, how much do you really think is not part of the thief? Also most likely the people that didn't swap forgot about their coins in total. so almost all volume that is being created is coming from the thief. Strange that Poloniex added this coin. Really strange.

Can you explain the math behind your logic here? I'm curious, how does the "thief" now own 80% of ETC?

So much misinformation out there... He probably wanted to say 80% of the DAO ETH, not all the ETH (or now ETC) that exists.

How's the hash rate? What's that link to compare them from Classic's and Vitalik's?

http://fork.ethstats.net/

Not bad. With more pools coming up the hash rate shuld go up further.

Did the ETH hash rate just drop by 1 TH/s?

It was above 4 TH/s an hour ago Smiley
