161  Economy / Economics / Re: Megaupload 2.0 & Bitcache - Anyone investing? on: October 21, 2016, 03:47:31 PM
So, anyone investing in Kim Dotcom's Megaupload 2.0 venture?

Any thoughts?

I'm personally not investing as I am not sure if I believe anything that he says. That being said, I'm following the situation very closely and would love if he actually pulls something off, it would be great for Bitcoin.
162  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius 2011 Double Error Coin on: October 18, 2016, 07:05:22 PM
Just spotted this post update on second double error to surface.
I've updated my first reply to this thread with a pick of the coin I have.
Useful for future reference etc.  Wink

Very nice!  Grin

Are you looking to sell it? If so for how much?
163  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 10BTC Casascius Silver Round /w Gold B - MINT - MOST DESIRED COIN! on: October 18, 2016, 05:02:58 AM
I'll offer 14.25 but that's my top top and I think you should except it.

I'd offer 15BTC myself but everyone knows he won't accept that. The premium on these doesn't change very much, they are in low supply and lots of people want them  Wink

Beautiful coin and I love your idea of including a 4k video. I'll definitely be incorporating this into any future sale threads. Best of luck with your sale!  Smiley
166  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin goes up very high should i buy a house? on: October 02, 2016, 12:09:55 AM
If that happens you are going to want to avoid taxes. Cashing it all out will have significant capital gains and having a mortgage can have a lot of tax benefits. Definitely do your research  Smiley

That's a really tough question. I could answer it if I had a crystal ball but until then I'll try to collect as much of both as I can!  Grin
170  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2013 Casascius VOID coin MS-65 - Extremely Rare! on: August 12, 2016, 08:48:41 AM
Interesting coin. May I know when it was graded? The grade seems fairly low and I can't properly judge it myself based on the images.

Not really sure what to ask for this price wise as they are incredibly rare!
Correct. However, I'm sure that you know that something that is rare does not necessarily mean it's expensive or has a high premium. I'm very curious as to what the 'market' will price this at.

Good luck, I'd pay face value 0.5 BTC  Grin
Face value + 0.01 BTC from me.  Cheesy

I've sold two in the ~6-7BTC range so I think that would be a good place to start negotiations. Still, supply and demand rules this forum and I doubt anyone else who owns one on this forum will be willing to sell theirs anytime soon so Blazed can be pretty subjective when it comes to what he considers an "amazing offer."
171  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2013 Casascius VOID coin MS-65 - Extremely Rare! on: August 12, 2016, 06:51:49 AM
Very nice coin and a must have for any Casascius set. I'm pretty sure the other ones are in the hands of serious collectors and will be locked in safes for the foreseeable future. Best of luck with the sale!  Grin

173  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Poll] What lower denominations for BTCC Mint coins? on: August 03, 2016, 07:00:06 PM
0.01 + 0.05 + 0.1 + 0.25 + 0.5 = 0.91 BTC

The price would vary on how limited the run will be. Titanium is very cheap and the costs of the moIds are easily covered by a large run. I guess 1.5 - 2 BTC would be a fair price.

I definitely like the idea of a set of five lower denomination coins. I also like the idea of you guys branching out and using different metals. Perhaps a limited run of gold or silver coins? Very few gold coins are done here but I think that there would be a decent amount of interest since the fit and finish of the coins you have made so far is great and I'm sure you guys would do it right.
174  Economy / Economics / Re: How good are you at managing your money on: July 30, 2016, 02:22:03 AM
Managing money effectively is definitely a long term thing. Many people are very short sighted when it comes to retirement or financial responsibility and this is the reason that many do not have enough to retire or run into issues when there are unexpected expenses. It's not so much about getting rich as it is about slowly accumulating wealth and passive income. Lately I have been reading a ton about financial independence and retiring early (FIRE) and the path that many individuals follow to get there. While I don't think that I want to retire early, I like the idea of having options. Definitely some interesting reading and I honestly have to say that saving money to buy BTC is what got me interested in saving and thinking about my long term financial future.
175  Economy / Collectibles / Re: WTS: Casascius 2011 Holo Error 1BTC coins (5) Casascius silver 2011 10BTC (1) on: July 20, 2016, 04:51:31 AM
Maybe someone could give me some advise on whether they are worth grading or not. Auctioning might be the way to go. Thanks for your input!

Most of us around here recognize and have seen for ourselves that grading is worthless.  I've seen enough coins and we have people who admit that they crack and regrade coins from the same grader to get higher grades so why pay more for them?  Some people like slabs.  And I guess the 70 grades are rare enough that it has got some bragging rights.  But you won't get much more for the effort these days.

You should auction one of your brass coins to see what happens.  Set a starting bid you are comfortable with.

I wouldn't say that "most of us" agree with this sentiment. Yes they did originally grade physical crypto artificially low and now that they have shifted their grading policy to what they use on every other coin older graded coins can be cracked and receive higher grades. ANACS isn't perfect but it is a good way to gauge the general quality of a coin especially when most sales here have to rely on a few pictures from the buyer where the angle it is taken at can change quite a bit and many blemishes can be hidden. At the end of the day yes, buy the coin not the grade but I would say that the number of times I have completely disagreed with ANACS grading is definitely the exception not the rule.

That being said, it might be worth sending in a few of your nicer error coins to be graded. If they grade MS67+ the price you can sell them for will go up quite a bit. The 10BTC is not worth getting graded in my opinion as historically the grade of these coins does not change the price very much and the logistics of insuring it to ANACS and back would be a pain. That being said, I would definitely bid on a few of your nicer ungraded error coins if you decide to do an auction  Smiley
176  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] 10 BTC Casascius Silver with Gold B on: July 14, 2016, 03:22:29 AM
The coin has arrived safe and sound to the buyer and I have released the funds from escrow to the seller. As both parties are satisfied I am locking this thread. Pleasure doing business  Smiley

LoL too bad, these odd American hours are idiot. Why not speaking in GMT time like 95% of the planet. Well nevermind, enjoy.

International auctions are definitely difficult. I tried to make it as clear as possible with:

Quote
This auction will end: July 10th at 1:00 PM PST

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/usa/los-angeles

I'll try to use GMT for my next auction so there is less confusion.

Payment has been received to the escrow address I provided and the coin will be shipped out first thing tomorrow morning.
178  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] 10 BTC Casascius Silver with Gold B on: July 10, 2016, 08:52:41 PM

This is the high bid. The auction ended at 8:00PM forum time and the no sniping rule doesn't apply for StarenseN's post because Dazed's was well before the end of the auction.

Congrats dazed, I'll shoot you a PM and we can wrap this up  Smiley

Please be aware of scammers!

How many of these were made?

If it is silver, what is the gold B made of?

It looks like 491 were made in total over 2 series, with 422 still active and untouched.
It's a solid silver coin with gold plating. Loaded with 10BTC obviously Grin

I usually use this site which says there are 226 silver with gold trim: http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius

Correct, it is gold electroplating on a silver coin.
