541  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do I go about purchasing a large amount of bitcoins on: August 19, 2015, 09:08:07 AM
I like it when a newbie says he wants to buy $500k worth of BTC. Really smart guy. A guy with balls obviously. I just wonder why he hasn't came back to tell us what he thinks of all the suggestions given above.
I assume this is not real. People who have a half million to put somewhere do not ask on some online forum. If you were that dumb you would not have the money in the first place. If this was legit, he/she would start by hiring a consultant. There is just too much money on the line here to learn as you go.

I think that a lot of people come onto forums and ask questions and make themselves out to be more than they really are so that they get attention (which this post clearly has). You see it on car forums, investment forums, and here. If someone is bigger, badder, and richer they get more replies and advice.
542  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you buy and sell BTC in person? on: August 19, 2015, 09:03:25 AM
The only place that I have found without using an exchange site in the US to buy and sell BTC in person is LocalBitcoin. Do anyone else buy and sell any other ways in person? Do you work directly with a miner? Any other suggestion outside of an exchange?

I have used Mycelium local trader before and had fairly good luck. I would try it out and see if there are any active members around you  Smiley
543  Economy / Economics / Re: If Greece defaults on: August 19, 2015, 08:59:56 AM
I'm always confused that markets are just looking for a sign of hope that maybe some party will "possibly" lend more money to a broke and insolvent country.

It's crazy to me that Greece willingly put its land into an escrow account so that they could be loaned money to pay back the countries that loaned them that same money. They basically sold their own country so that Europe could print more money and pay itself back.  Embarrassed
544  Economy / Economics / Re: I need bitcoin to be $690 to break even.....will I make it? on: August 19, 2015, 08:56:48 AM
I don't care about New York.

The problem is if other states follows New York.

The problem is if USA follows that, and then Russia, China, Germany, Canada, etc.

Bitcoin could become a global currency, but it will be so regulated and watched, that it will lose all appeal.

I totally agree. In the grand scheme of things New York might be a very small piece of the puzzle, but if it sets a precedent that other states and countries follow it could be extremely detrimental to the development and adoption of Bitcoin around the world.
545  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: August 19, 2015, 08:53:17 AM
Bitcoin is very much like gold in its conception and implementation - issued as an asset, limited supply etc. The difference, of course, is that it can easily be used to transact anywhere on the planet - to buy and sell on a day-to-day basis.

I love this response. Bitcoin is an amazing mix between a scarce commodity and a currency. When you look at the five properties of currency: scarcity, fungibility, divisibility, durability, and transferability, the only area that Bitcoin is not leaps and bounds ahead of both gold and fiat is fungibility.

546  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it better to save money or invest it? on: August 19, 2015, 08:48:38 AM
Investing  depends on type of investment that you make.. Its good to invest in Bitcoins because in long run you will earn best Return on Investments. Saving is for present but Investments are for future benefits.

Bitcoin is a speculative asset, no one is guaranteed a positive return on investment. I personally have invested into Bitcoin but realize that it is very risky and have not invested more than I can afford to lose. I think that risk management is very important when it comes to investing, especially as one gets closer to the age of retiring.
547  Economy / Economics / Re: Price stability on: August 19, 2015, 08:45:20 AM
One thing is for sure,
as time goes by,
the price of bitcoin
will surely become high.
Haha, well said! Grin I hope so and wait for it

This is the mentality that always comforts me, if you look at the historic pattern of Bitcoin, those who have held for very long periods of time (several years) have always done well.
548  Economy / Economics / Re: Alright , Time to Dump or Time to Buy ? on: August 19, 2015, 07:50:11 AM
Alright guys ,
the situation right now is not the best situation we ever had to be honest , I bet that this is because of the BitcoinXt and investors are afraid on their money and why not they have all the right for that right ?. What do you guys think people should do right now dump and just save their selfs since they can ? or simply buy right now because it's not going anywhere lower then this .

I usually try and trade the opposite of the market sentiment. There are so many people in doom and gloom mode right now, buying when there's blood in the streets has always served me well. I'm just glad to see a little volatility honestly. It's starting to look like the old days on the charts  Cheesy
549  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is Becoming a Global Currency on: August 19, 2015, 07:47:51 AM
Great news! Hope it can replace some currencies in the future. Maybe bitcoin can be what it use to be again.

Bitcoin never stopped being "what it used to be." It makes me sad when people gauge the quality of Bitcoin by the price speculators set.
550  Economy / Economics / Re: Why You Should Never Sell Your Bitcoins Ever on: August 19, 2015, 07:43:50 AM
the prices are always temporary / changing dont worry if you regret selling your bitcoins
just be patient and wait for the right moment to sell them you know Smiley

In my experience people who have tried to time the market have not fared very well. I have done much better for myself with buying a certain amount around the same time every month. I think that this logic applies to selling as well, I wouldn't know about selling though...  Wink
551  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Router that mines bitcoin - 21inc you are late... on: August 19, 2015, 07:02:32 AM

21 inc is such an interesting company. They are so secretive and have received the most funding of any Bitcoin startup company and no one is certain exactly what they are doing. I'm cautiously optimistic that they will pull something out of the hat. I'm hoping for much more than a mining toaster/router but we will see.
552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5000 Bitcoins for a Pizza - The most famous story in Bitcoin history on: August 19, 2015, 06:59:20 AM
Such a great story, if you have followed Laszlo Hanyecz at all you know that he is passionate about Bitcoin and doesn't regret purchasing the pizza for that many coins. He is actually quite pleased that he is a part of its history  Smiley

Thanks for laying the way it is calculated out like that, definitely makes it much easier to understand how the activity and rank structure works when you can properly visualize it.

556  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Honey from Thailand on: August 19, 2015, 05:21:08 AM
So seriously though, is there a difference in taste between Thai honey and the one I can get at Walmart in the U.S.? Different bees make different honey?

This is the difference in honey between spring pollen and summer pollen. The flavor difference is significant. Makes me want to try Thai honey  Cheesy

558  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Kialara Physical Bitcoins/HAVEN: Update on: August 19, 2015, 05:03:50 AM
I'm surprised no one else has posted with all of the coins that have shipped out recently!

Also if anyone is in the market for two 2014 original Kialara bars (#418, #419) let me know!

560  Economy / Auctions / Re: [AUCTION] Ravenbit Node Bronze AT - "Jupiter" (ends Sunday Aug 16 10pm EDT) on: August 18, 2015, 07:58:14 AM
About 10hrs left in this auction.  Smiley

Is this auction over/extended? Crazy that there was no interest, very cool concept.

It's August - kind of dead around here. I'm going to make a post for these coins in the Goods section with BIN prices. I'll accept the starting bid + shipping for this coin if you are interested.

Everyone must be out enjoying summer! That's definitely a fair offer, I'm currently in over my head trying to finish my Casascius set though. I'm sure someone will pick it up, they're beautiful coins.  Smiley
