181  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: bittrex is a scam website - AVOID!- WITH PROOF!! on: December 02, 2017, 01:07:07 PM
I just posted a more lengthy account in another thread but in essence I am now stuck like many others here.

In summary:

Legacy account holder > 3 years without verification.
Last successful withdrawal of ~0.15 BTC was November 1st of this year.
Went to withdrawal remaining balance ~0.15 BTC today and got exceed limit message.
Tried to do basic verification and it said unable to verify.
They now want me to do enhanced verification, lol right.

Sad thing is this reminds me of Cryptsy just before they went under. People started reporting having withdrawal problems, they hid behind the KYC and AML laws while in reality they were exit scamming. History may not repeat exactly, but it often rhymes.

Well, if nothing else I guess I can use this to offset some of my taxable gains this year.
182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bittrex Unverified User - Be Careful ! 0.025 BTC Withdrawal Limit without Warnin on: December 02, 2017, 12:39:19 PM
I have a small amount there as well and indeed they have now made it 0 for unverified accounts. I have a legacy account and was fine with the lower limits in place before as I only traded small amounts there due to their larger selection of alt coins. I just tried to withdraw a small amount today and it failed. I was last able to do a successful withdrawal on November 1st.

So I go ahead and fill out the information for a basic account and their automated system fails. WTF, I been at same address for many years and I have done similar verification at other more reputable places many times successfully. Now they want me to do enhanced verification to get less than .5 BTC off their site?

Do you have a small amount there and you want to solve this small amount via lawyers? that doesn't make sense to me Smiley Moreover bittrex can change own T&C that is a problem but hard to argue with them

This I disagree with as while they can change the terms and conditions, they also need to provide a way to opt out of those terms. Every other place sends an advance notice to you that they are changing their terms and conditions and if you do not agree with them you have the option to close your account and any funds will sent to you. Bittrex is ignoring the law and trapping users funds forcing them to register before they will release them. This is a one way arrangement so how could you agree when you are being basically forced to accept it or forfeit your funds.

As far as solving for layers, yea I think a class action is in order. Hundreds of small amounts do add up considering BTC is now trading at $11k, even half a bitcoin ~$5,500 times hundred or thousands of users adds up quite quickly.

This is the same tactic that Cryptsy used before they folded. They let people trade unregistered for years then the withdrawal problems started. They hid behind the KYC laws and also required verification, but in reality they were just delaying payment as long as they could to make an exit scam. I predict a year from now Bittrex will not exist.
183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 930~960w on 1000w psu. safe or not? on: December 01, 2017, 12:11:07 AM
I use the same ration as the NEC does for normal electrical circuits, meaning 80 for continuous use. So for a 1000 Watt PSU, that would mean 800 watts are available for use in the system.

Now if you go over this by a small margin, say 820 to 840 watts you will probably be ok, but when you are starting to run at 95% load 24/7 things can get hot. While the first week or two you probably won't notice anything, overtime the components start to wear faster and wires get hot and you can have a fire hazard on your hands.

All around I think the 80% ration is the best rule of thumb to go by as saving a few dollars on a undersized PSU isn't worth the risk to you or your home.

185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Which SSD would you choose? on: November 30, 2017, 10:02:15 AM
I would go for A, the Intel for only 4 bucks more. While it is true you do not need 160 GB for a mining rig, even running Windows, SSDs last a long time.

I actually have an early model Intel 80 GB SSD (that I paid $314 for when it first came out) still running in one of my mining rigs. It is now over 8 years old and still going strong.

The point is, even if you move on from mining, or make a new rig in a few years that requires a bigger storage footprint, that 160 GB capacity may be still useful, while going with a smaller size to save 4 bucks might not. I expect quality SSDs will last 10 years if not longer, probably one of the more useful long lasting components you can buy.
186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $10K bitcoin: It is now official on: November 28, 2017, 03:31:29 PM
Ladies and gentlemen,  1 bitcoin is now $10000.. Congratulations!

Which exchange are you looking at, as the big ones are still a bit under $10K: GDAX $9,930, Bitfinex: $9,848, Bitstamp: $9,865, Kraken: $9,828

I was looking at coinmarketcap.

Whether the price will stay there is the important question for me. We have crossed the $10K threshold a few times now but couldn't manage to hold on. If bitcoin gains a foothold past the $10K mark, then that would be really huge in my opinion.

Agreed, I think the major USD based exchanges need to meaningfully break past the $10,000 barrier to really gain that foothold. The Asian exchanges have always ran a few hundred dollars higher so it still is not convincing.

I think by the end of this year we will get the meaningful break past 10k.. I for one have never seen the break past 10k on coinmarketcap.. This is the first one i have seen.

Yeah, I see that now your image wasn't loading when I first replied.

I also never seen it past $10k so yeah it is still exciting, although as i said I will be more convinced once the major US exchanges start getting past it. I suppose the Korean exchange rate equating to $10k USD is just some number, whereas USD based exchanges have the psychological barrier to break through as $10,000 is almost magical somehow.
187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The real question is .... on: November 28, 2017, 03:27:57 PM
The real question we should all be asking is whether Bitcoin is going back down to $1 mark, so I can buy millions of them!

What are your predictions?

It would never go back down to one dollar as there would be a lot of people and companies in line before you at higher price points to buy them all up.

The only way it would go back to $1 is if it was on its way to zero as would be the case of a major flaw that was discovered that could not be fixed, such as the ability to find and decrypt private keys at will.

191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Are Your Greatest Fears As a Bitcoin Holder? on: November 24, 2017, 11:20:29 AM
I believe the biggest fear for most people is a big crash that never recovers. This could be due to several governments simultaneously clamping down on bitcoin or for other reasons.
192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin predicted to rise in the coming days? on: November 24, 2017, 11:17:34 AM
Unless you really need the money for something important, I would wait. While there is always a risk, I think we will see $9K before year end and $10K by early next year.
193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Plz Help choosing rx card to buy. on: November 24, 2017, 10:28:38 AM
I like MSI and have a few armors, they are bare bones but just what you need for mining rigs.

Sapphire are ok, but if one goes bad you may have a hard time with RMA as they are really picky. No matter what if you do need to send one in never admit to mining as they do not like to honor warranties on cards that have been mined on.

I have a few Gigabyte cards too, but they consistently seem to produce lower hashrates then comparable cards from other manufacturers.

196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Question]If I mine xmr what are the odds that the coin wont die on: November 21, 2017, 11:19:21 AM
As has been said, there are no guarantees. However, XMR is a lot "safer" than a lot of other coins simply because it has been around awhile. Usually most shit coins that go to zero and never recover will do so within their first year or two, or at the least be delisted by all major exchanges.
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH switch to PoS will kill GPU mining but everybody seems pretty relaxed on: November 20, 2017, 05:43:28 AM
The biggest reason everyone is so relaxed is that the PoS switch has been "6 months away"  for going on two years now. When mining Ethereum first became a "thing" people were saying the same crap, "don't invest now as PoS is only 6 months away". Well when the 6 months does eventually get here we can worry, until then it is just more fud.
198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Gold Mining [Miners and suggestions] on: November 12, 2017, 08:01:16 PM
If you go to https://twitter.com/SuprnovaPools , it says what the problem is. "$BTG Pool is still syncing as @bitcoingold didn't release any bootstrap nor fast nodes to sync from." This might have been done on purpose.

This is my thought as well.

I just lost some more respect for the BTG developers, as it wasn't enough for them to pre-mine, but now since they are the only ones with a currently synced blockchain I am sure they are taking advantage to insta-mine as many more blocks as they can for personal gain. Pretty crappy way to set the tone for a launch.
199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: http://zcash.flypool.org/ is down!!! on: November 09, 2017, 09:26:28 AM
The Zcash flypool site works fine for me, but earlier the ethermine.org website was down. My miners are still pointing to it and mining ok though. I believe both sites are ran by the same company so they, their ISPs or hosting company may be having trouble.
