1021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum: Good alt or stay away? on: April 06, 2016, 04:01:25 PM
another thing that I don't like is the maximum number of coins. not everybody may agree with this but I think a huge number (5x what bitcoin has) will prevent any big price achievement, because there always will be more coins to dump (high supply vs low demand.)

The number of coins does not matter. If it has 100 million coins and the PoS interest is only 1% per year, it is still good enough.

Agreed, as I don't think Bitcoin has a lock on the ideal number of coins a cryptocurrency should issue. Not everyone thinks having a $400, or if BTC goes mainstream a $1,000, $10,000, per coin valuation is attractive to more casual users.

So simply using the excuse "too many coins" is not even an argument, as in reality, it does not matter as the valuation will ultimately settle around the demand for thee coin. If that valuation is 21 million coins at $1,000 each, or if that is 21 Billion coins at $1 each, it works out the same in the end.
1022  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining still profitable? on: April 05, 2016, 04:26:10 PM
which is another profitable currency with GPU? ?

I don't think you'll get the answer =)
But there is always Nicehash  Wink

I agree, it might be easy money, but not so easy you can expect everyone else to do all the legwork for you and cut into their own profits. The answers are out there and not hidden, but you do need to put in at least some effort. Smiley
1023  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it too late to start with bitcoin? on: April 04, 2016, 10:51:41 AM
Yes but you have started in onther time. Now bitcoin is very hard to get it

It is just as easy to get as it ever was, it is just more valuable now in terms of Fiat so you get a smaller fraction of a bitcoin than people would have years ago. You go to a faucet today, and you might make 20 cents or about ~0.0005 BTC after some effort. Five years ago you could have earned 1 Bitcoin with a bit of effort, but at the time it was worth that same 20 cents. So in terms of Fiat value, you are getting the same amount for your effort.
1024  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH will go to $100, then shoot up to BTC all time high on: April 04, 2016, 10:26:29 AM
Today I bought some ETH just in case that all this stories about eth rise are true. I see a lot of talking around internet about this eth, some people say its good, some people say its just for pumping and dumping bitcoin. Honestly all this make me confused. I will try with some small amount and that's it even if I lose it doesn't matter. Time will tell who is right and who is not, Im tired from reading all this argues between eth followers and btc followers.

Not a bad decision. Even if all the fudders are right, you lose a few bucks in the end, so what.

But you are correct in that there seems to be a lot of interest in this coin. Both the New York Times and Forbes have recently run articles on Ethereum, so interest is definitely building.

meh, i don't like small profits that are half assed, the time to get in on eth was a couple of months ago when the hype was begining.

Maybe, but there were people saying that back when Bitcoin first rose into the $15-$20 range as well.
1025  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EHEREUM SCAM EXPOSED: Garage In The Woods Operation on: April 03, 2016, 04:13:54 PM
Today there is far less ETH volume compared to the other days
http://exchangewar.info/
Poloniex "only" had 12000 BTC Volume.
The last weeks Polo had volumes until 65000 BTC daily.

Weekends usually see lower volumes in all trading, not just Ethereum. Mid-week seems to be the biggest volumes days, specifically Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
1026  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum pump and dump? on: April 03, 2016, 04:01:44 PM
There is a gulf between an outright scam; and promises of a future that may never be.

Exactly. The same could be said for BTC, weren't we supposed to be at $10,000 coin now or something? Must be a scam....

BTC does all it set out to.  How widely adopted it is; or how high its exchange rate is, are expectations others place upon it.  ETH on the other hand has yet to become its promise.  Granted ETH aims at a much more difficult goal than BTC.

This is true, but the point was just because Ethereum has "yet to become its promise" does not mean it is a scam.

My issue is with the word scam being tossed around all the time. According to many that post here, if something isn't released in perfect condition with any and every foreseen and unforeseen problem already accounted for and coded in, and unless it instantly skyrockets in value, but never even once falls, it is a scam.

1028  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Athereum is the future of crypto, uᴉoɔʇᴉq is not. on: April 03, 2016, 02:00:27 PM
I feel eth not be as easy as it replaces uᴉoɔʇᴉq. uᴉoɔʇᴉq will remain the future of crypto. I say that because eth price is still very much different from the uᴉoɔʇᴉq, and if eth growing, then uᴉoɔʇᴉq also

If many people use the smart contract system based on Ethereum, then the Ethereum price will be very high.

But somebody is building a smart contract system based on Bitcoin. When that comes out, it will affect Etheruem.

Once real money joins in there will be plenty of room for both, and plenty of others as well. People who think there can only be one or the other aren't thinking big enough. This may be a few years out yet, or it could happen overnight, but the interest is steadily growing.
1029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is it possible to hack your bitcoin from your wallet? on: April 03, 2016, 01:30:12 PM
Ways on how to get the password of a user or of an account :

I have heard of the others, but what is this cookie hijack about?
1030  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Two Bittrex accounts hacked today. on: April 03, 2016, 01:15:15 PM
I had a small amount of alts on Bittrex that wasn't touched and I also didn't have 2FA enabled. I have since enabled it, but may move my few coins off there anyway. Cryptsy is still too fresh in my mind.

1032  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin will see 10$ and above 2016 on: April 03, 2016, 10:06:53 AM
Stability can be good. I remember when everyone was complaining Bitcoin would never go anywhere because it wasn't stable enough to be used as a currency. Well now both BTC and LTC have been fairly stable and now all of a sudden they are dead...
1033  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My Etherium setup... 30 MH/s Any Reccomendations on: March 31, 2016, 09:26:48 AM
This card runs at 90,  apparently 95 is normal, although I have good case fan and ventelation
Is that in Fahrenheit or Celsius? I suspect Celsius, and if so that is rather hot and will shorten the life of your cards.

You imply these are in a case, at a minimum take off the case side to increase ventilation, or better yet take off the side and rotate the case so the open end is pointing up to maximize heat removal.

If you even want to get serious in the future with additional rigs, make them open air design (no case) to really open up the cooling. Plenty of examples to search for out there from the scrypt mining days.
1034  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Ethereum reach a billion market cap this year? on: March 31, 2016, 09:14:34 AM
If the price drops to 0.01 or lower, I will buy quite a lot of Ethereum.

Except that you probably wont. Either because it wont drop or because you change your mind when you see the bear market and bad news necessary for such a drop.

True, market psychology 101. Also true why people who say I am going to sell all  my Eth at 0.035, 0.4, or whatever don't, because they get greedy and hold out for more.

Here is a more likely scenario based on human behavior:

Price low 0.001 or whatever - coin is ignored or thought it "won't go anywhere" by most.
Price moves up a bit - still ignored by most, thought of as "pump and dump -I am staying out".
Price has made tons of gains and it up 100's or even 1000's of percent - FOMO people buying with both hands "I better get in before it too late, to the MOON!"
Price drops down slightly under their investment - "oh well, probably only a minor correction, I will hold on."
Price drops a lot under their investment - "Oh shit, I screwed up, better get out while I can walk away with something, this shit is going to 0"
Price is back to, or close to original price point - "Damn, I glad I sold when I did, I knew this was a shit coin, never touching it again."
Process repeats...
1035  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where is all the eth? on: March 31, 2016, 08:48:37 AM
72 million eth was premined and is in the hands of devs. Hmm i wonder what could go wrong here...?

60 million of Ethereum was in IPO. 12 million was paid to developers. So the total is 72 million. Not all in the developers.

err 12M is still a shitload of money for dev, we are talking about 16% premine here, it's really true that only the hype matter, when you see a pump like that despite the huge premine

Yeah, this thread is total BS. It is not like the Devs had 77 mil Eth and the price went instantly to $10-$15, nor did they ever make any claim that it would (like PayCoin), to imply any type of scam.

Besides the IPO, the coin traded publicly on exchanges for well under a dollar from September to December 2015, and as low as 50 cents in parts of October 2015. So everyone crying foul, you could have picked up a nice stash say 5,000 Eth for a $2,500 investment last October, or even $5,000 investment if (bought higher) while it traded under $1 in much of the later half of the year.

Now that 5,000 ETH would have fetched anywhere from $50,000 ($10) to $75,000 ($15) in recent weeks. Again, this opportunity was present for everyone who cared to buy, not just an elite group of insiders. I expect the foundation sold off quite a lot of that ETH early on, as there were initially concerns about funding future development, Only after ETH took off to over $5 levels did they state they were now secure for the future, so I don't think they held on to the big stash looking to dump it all at once.

Do they still hold some, yes I am sure why wouldn't they as they indeed have a vested interest in its success. Do they plan to dump it all and walk away? Again, why would they when everything is pointing to a bright future. I agree there have been a lot of scam, or pump and dump type of coins over the last years, so maybe it is now just hard to see when something is legit. I could point out similarities in anything if I wanted to try and associate something with a scam, after all most bank robbers wear blue jeans, but that does not mean all people wearing bluejeans are bank robbers.
1036  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can bitcoin rise up to 800$ this year ? on: March 29, 2016, 02:16:52 PM
I think it will not reach to 800 and i think the price will reach around 600-770. im not sure but i feel that theprice will play there.. is just my specualtion and i am not a fortune teller to know the price in the future..

I have some doubts that the price will even reach 600 this year. we have finished the first quarter of the year and the price is still in $400 level and could not pass 450 till now. if we reach 600 this year, it will be a surprise for me

Don't underestimate how much and how fast Bitcoin can move in a very short period of time. Just for comparison, not saying it is going to happen again like this, but the price in September 2013 dropped to under $80 and two months later in November 2013 it reached its ATH over $1,200.

We are quite a bit above that $80 mark now, so a proportional rise compared to 2013 (15x) would take us to over $6,000. Now that is not going to happen and I just used it to put things into perspective of how $800 is certainly possible, and even $1,200 again which would only be a 3x rise this time around. So an paltry $600 prediction looks very pessimistic.

Of course, in the end much of it will be determined by the miners. If they intend to dump their daily production on the market at current prices, then there would be no market pressure except for the slightly reduced daily supply. Considering 2/3 of all the Bitcoins are already mined, the new supply will start having less and less effect on the overall market as time goes on.

1037  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I sell ether on: March 28, 2016, 07:24:14 AM
I'm currently mining about .5 ether per day. Should hold on to it or trade it for bitcoin?

Sell enough on a regular basis to offset any costs, such as electrical at least this way you are not going to lose anything, think of it as your are buying the ETH with your slightly higher power bill. Of course seeing you are only mining 0.5 ETH a day, I am guessing you are mining with one or two GPUs at roughly 25-30 MH/s hash-rate, so this might not be that much extra cost to your normal power bill.

Hold on to the rest for times when you think it is peaking and sell then. Right now it is low and I think we will see 0.03 again sometime soon. A nice piece covering Ethereum was published today at the NY Times so I think this will help to reverse the recent downtrend, even if temporarily. My point is to hold out for the peaks to sell and don't get scared off by the lows.

1039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what happens to Bitcoin if internet goes down? on: March 28, 2016, 05:27:27 AM
Well this day and age the internet is just like a utility and a lot of other things would break as well, arguably more important than just Bitcoin. If it was just the internet, there are other means of communications, such as private networks, ham radio, etc. that the super dedicated could probably figure out a way to make it work.
1040  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The bottom will drop out of the alt market soon on: March 27, 2016, 12:42:12 AM
There is room for many altcoin technologies to exist with Bitcoin.  Some alts serve different purposes and are innovative technologies as well.  For example - any altcoin working with IoT technologies have an interesting future apart from bitcoin.

There is definitely a lot of unfounded hype going on right now in altcoins but the cream will rise to the top.

I agree with your first statement, in that there is plenty of room for both Bitcoin and altcoins to co-exist. In fact the old adage "a rising tide will float all boats", or in this case a rising Bitcoin, is appropriate because with more money pouring into Bitcoin there is also more available for alts.

Looking back at BTC's first rise, LTC caught the wave as it was not only hanging on BTCs coattails, but many people at the time thought since they missed Bitcoin at $2 this was there chance to get in on Bitcoin2, aka LTC. LTC has fallen out of favor somewhat since then, but there are plenty of other up and coming alts which people might equate to their Bitcoin2 opportunity.
