161  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The Forbidden Fruit: Selling BTC(and altcoin) on EBAY AHMG on: July 07, 2017, 08:51:00 AM
I'd be cautious, even if they don't scam you the providence of their BTC might be dubious.

Why don't they sell on an exchange?  Perhaps they acquired their Bitcoins via illegal means.  Do you want the blockchain showing you as the new owner of those coins?

Same argument can be given about the FIAT in your pocket... Is it possible that $10 bill was once used in a sting operation to capture a drugdealer? Maybe it's marked? Maybe it has traces of cocaine?

https://themerkle.com/what-is-bitcoin-fungibility/

True, but the only person who is going to be looking at that FIAT is the guy at the store you use to buy $10 worth of groceries from.  Even if the authorities somehow figured out you withdrew that $10 from an ATM they aren't going to hold it against you.

The full force and strength of international law enforcement has the ability to look at the blockchain.  Unfortunately they are likely to suspect (possibly unreasonably) that because you received the BTC from a scoundrel, that you must be a scoundrel yourself.

Thanks, it wasn't showing...for future  searchers I had to click the + on the very right hand side of the same line that says 'Hello stevebc' to make the watchlist show.

You can put btx on pape wallets generated by bitaddress.org. I've done that and uninstalled the wallet as it wasn't working.

Thanks so much for that.

So if I print off the page that site generates, then send my BTX to the Bitcoin SHARE address (I guess since the underlying tech is the same it works for Bitcore too?) I can at anytime access the wallet by using the SECRET private key that was generated?

Will my BTX be eligible for (and receive) future airdops if they are parked in the paper wallet?
164  Other / Meta / Where do I see updates to Watched threads? on: July 07, 2017, 07:40:51 AM
I have been marking some threads with the 'watch' status, but don't see where I can actually view updates to those threads in this forum software.

Are there instruction somewhere on how to keep tabs on watched threads?

Thanks!

Guys, given staying in the top 1000 requires enough BTX in my wallet for a very nice meal out  - I'm trying to determine how best to not lose it (say if my hard drive crashes, or I accidentally delete my bitcore folder)

What info/files do I need to set aside so I could regain access to my BTX if my laptop burst into flames?
166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solving the ICO Dump Crisis on: July 06, 2017, 10:40:32 PM
But the 100ETH cap is per wallet address, individuals/whales can just use multiple addresses, right?

Hi Tommy,

This is incorrect, there will be KYC implemented in order to prevent Sybil attacks. Good question!

So you expect us to give you our personal information? This is crypto where people like their anonimity. I don't think this is going to work out too well.

Hi MisO69, we will not be personally interfacing with or storing any personal information. We are still working with the idea of implementing KYC, and any KYC will be done through a secure third party service.

Why would potential investors trust any 'secure third party service' disreputable enough to get involved with an ICO (the SEC is getting concerned about how these are run, and are liable to regulate them soon)?
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Tezos discussion on: July 06, 2017, 10:07:29 PM
Thanks, seems like they already have ten times their most optimistic targets!

Have they made any comment about their plans for the funds given such success?  I'm tempted to invest, but not if it's just going to add to a pile of hundreds of millions that they don't have a plan for (that sounds like trouble waiting to happen)
168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Tezos discussion on: July 06, 2017, 09:27:14 PM
can someone provide a link to the chief salespitch for investing in Tezos?
169  Other / Meta / Re: Want to become a hero member on: July 06, 2017, 09:17:41 PM
How can i improve my account status? Huh

You can start by looking at this topic. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=237597.0

You can gain 14 activity points in 2 weeks at max. You'll become a hero member when you have 480 act. points. Means, If you post 1 message to the board every day, you'll be a hero in 9-10 months.

I really don't understand fully how it's calculated but I got 28 activity points in around 10 days, so I think it could be done much faster!  Cheesy

It's not every 14 days from your initial sign up, it's every 14 days based on a certain schedule.  So you have no doubt actually been a member for a portion of TWO 14 day periods.

anyone successfully received a bounty payout yet?

172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Bitcoin has any intrinsic value? on: July 06, 2017, 11:01:32 AM
If he thinks that bitcoin has no intrinsic value then I don't think anything has intrinsic value honestly.

Nothing currency has intrinsic value, it's that simple. Only usable things like food has intrinsic value. Currencies are simply a medium of exchange, in which people conduct their business in. Rather than talking about intrinsic value i think it is much more appropriate to talk about how decentralized something is, and how much trust people have in the currency.

For example, gold, an established form of money over the centuries, has decentralized production, much like bitcoin. It is not useful other than being a good electric conductor, but then there are much better conductors. What makes gold valuable is its rarity, much like bitcoin again, and people's trust in it, like bitcoin as well. So i think it's fair to say that just like gold, in the long run bitcoin is going to be a great hedge against inflation and financial collapses, whether or not it has intrinsic value or not.

I agree.

If I can eat something, drink something, or breathe something - it has intrinsic value.

All currencies - whether it be BTC, USD or gold - only have value because the user base believes it has value.
173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Afraid of August One? on: July 05, 2017, 11:14:18 PM
Not afraid of August 1st, but somewhat impatient for it.

I think the BTC price is in somewhat of a holding pattern as people wait to see how it all plays out.
174  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mars 2027 on: July 05, 2017, 11:05:14 PM
If anyone can do it, Musk can.

I will say though he has a habit of stating (and then missing) very aggressive delivery dates.  I don't hold it against him though, as it motivates his people to get things done!

With luck the the time he's selling tickets 1 BTC will pay your way:)

Stevebc

What do you mean by schemes toward senior members only encourage people to spam? Are you implying that all I'm doing is spamming and not bringing up a cogent point?

Not at all! I'm agreeing with you that the way some coins using Senior Member as a criteria for a reward results is a bad idea.  All it does is encourage people to make accounts and posting hundreds of times simply to be eligible for those rewards.
176  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Different price when buying or selling on Coinbase then posted value on: July 05, 2017, 10:40:47 PM
If you are already setup for Coinbase you can use GDAX.COM.

It's the same outfit, but you can actually place proper orders - not just 'buy' and 'sell'.
177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Good Reason to Own Some BTC on: July 05, 2017, 10:03:56 PM
...

If you are traveling and lose your credit card, but in a country that has a reasonably active Bitcoin scene, you can sell some BTC to pay bills while "over there".

This may become an issue for us.

Here is a case for having an online wallet, "travels anywhere".

Don't we all have our online wallets secured by 2FA?  If so - better make sure that when your credit card gets stolen they don't take your phone/yubikey or what have you also!
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Is Not A Democracy. Then What It Is? on: July 05, 2017, 10:00:52 PM
Bitcoin is not a Government, or some libertarian or anarchist dream - it's just Bitcoin.

I think of Bitcoin as a store of value (the new gold) with the potential (if we get scaling right) to double as a payment system also.
179  Economy / Services / Re: Crypto-News.net is looking for new writers on: July 05, 2017, 09:52:18 PM
If I would get hired by you as a team member, what would the compensation be for writing three articles per week? I have written alot of texts and personal blogs, but most of them are not crypto related. If you need a crypto related article, I could make one as an example.
Reates are discussed individually.

How about a clue as to the lower/upper bounds for the rates you pay your contributors?

You'll likely get a better quality of applicant, as professionals are unlikely to apply for a job with no idea at all of if it pays first world rates.
180  Economy / Economics / Re: Selling Bitcoin = Opportunity loss?! on: July 05, 2017, 09:45:36 PM
Definitely some opportunity loss there - looking back I once spent what is now thousands of USD worth of BTC on VPN service!

It was all funny money back then.
