Max Supply of Datacoin

One question I am being asked is the 2 billion max supply of Datacoin that will be produced.

This is something that we can discuss.  For myself I have no strong attachment to the 2 billion.

Since the supply has already passed 28 million we cannot reduce it to 21.  But we can certainly talk about 42 million as a possible stop.

I will (try to) host a Datacoin Chat on Twitter at 20:00 UTC on Wednesday 8 November 2017.  Hashtag #DatacoinChat.

We have 2400 followers on Twitter.  It is time to talk to them.

I am going to use TweetChat.

Q1:  What is Datacoin?
Q2:  How do you mine it?
Q3:  How do you buy it?
Q4:  How many coins in circulation?
Q5:  What is Bytestamp and Digital Assets?
Q6:  What is Apertus and how do you store data in the blockchain?
Q7:  What is Hyperledger and what are Smart Contracts?
Q8:  What will happen to the Datacoin price?
Q9:  What is the roadmap for Datacoin?
Q10:How many developers are there?

Participation (and help) would be appreciated.  Testing tomorrow (Tuesday) at 20:00 UTC.

I suppose Datacoin is the currency you need to use in order to pay for storing info on your blockchain? Does the system work by now? How much is it to store data on the chain?

Yes.  Works well.  The cost is 0.05DTC for 128kB.

MEGA download asks for a login and then presents an empty drive.

Not sure what to do.

That is amazing.  Awesome to see Datacoin integrated into Hyperledger.

IBM has been driving Hyperledger into business applications.  We solve so many problems with this integration.

A quick update:

I rediscovered Hyperledger composer, using the online testing environment I have been able to create 2 participant types and an asset and then transfer asset ownership from one user to another - all very simple.
then installed ubuntu 64bit and full composer, from the cli I then created a Datacoin test network again with 2 participants and an asset. This can now be published to a .bna file and deployed to a peer.

Integration
I am still working things out but what it seems we can do use the node.js process included with composer to expose the Datacoin test network as a rest api.
Then we can pull data from dtc network and convert that data into assets on the hyperledger network.
I'm still exploring the limits of the testing environment.

cheers
dtc2017

I have also been busy with Hyperledger Composer Web Playgound:   https://composer-playground.mybluemix.net.
Very nice.  You program your business onto the blockchain via smart contracts.  All is then collected into a .bna file which I presume is then deployed on a server.  Correct me if I am wrong.

So you say the Datacoins will be represented on Hyperledger via a REST API.  With constant communication to the Datacoin blockchain via a local Datacoin client?

Hi Extro,

Here is a fork of the marbles demo
https://github.com/dtc20017/marbles

I am still setting up our blockchain as I want to share accesss across all interested team members rather that running it locally.
IBM Bluemix service offer free trial accounts but they don't include blockchain services and
charge around $1300 per peer. In the mean time we can use my Ubuntu server on google cloud.

I have already emailed IBM Blockchain support for some advice, still waiting to hear back.
Some good news - Hyperledger is definitely compatible with the Datacoin algo.

Also had a look at some of the other technologies under the Hyperledger Framework, Fabric has the most support from industry and is well documented so will stick with that unless you have any objections.

Kind Regards,

This is very interesting and impressive work by DTC2017.  Datacoin lacks a Smart Contract environment and IBM/Linux Foundation Hyperledger seems to be a good solution.  I don't believe we have the resources to re-invent the wheel, especially as Hyperledger is agnostic w.r..t cryptocurrencies.

I have updated the OP with a link to a fork of the Marbles asset trading application created by IBM Hyperledger.

We are currently syncing on CryptoID! Smiley

CryptoID is a block explorer, and more, for development and curiosity needz.

IBM Hyperledger

I see IBM Hyperledger has an asset trading app called Marbles:   https://github.com/IBM-Blockchain/marbles.
There is a video here:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhB15Hi_Yok.

There is also a smart contract framework called Chaincode.

We don't have smart contracts and Asset Trading at the moment.  Seems that we could align Datacoin with the Hyperledger framework to quickly gain these capabilities.

Dtc2017 has done some preliminary investigations and believes it is doable.  Lets see how far we get.

Beautiful.

I get a lot of Arabic on Twitter and Facebook, but I can feel that a lot is lost in translation.  Lol.

Lovely, lovely.

I was thinking, with English, Chinese, Spanish and Arabic you cover basically the whole planet.  Not that I want to give you work..... Grin

Mind you, I have noticed (and cultivated) a lot of Spanish and Arabic speakers on the DatacoinX Twitter and Facebook pages.

[APERTUS UPDATE]

Good news! HugPuddle.org is currently testing a fix for the bug that was preventing it from rebuilding variable storage etchings stored in a remote wallet.
We will be testing it's functionality soon by archiving a message in a wallet located in Moorhead MN and rebuilding the message via transaction ID in a remote wallet located in Long Beach CA. if it works as expected we will release the fix in v0.3.12-beta and make it available for download at Apertus.io shortly.

PS: If you are experimenting with DTC-V (Datacoin Variable Storage) you may begin to see your etchings show up on the bitfossil.org real time indexer later in the evening as we deploy the fix.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Team,

Lovely, lovely.  One problem sorted out thanks to Veronium and your goodselves.

I must say I am very excited about the Twitter/Snapchat clones you have on testnet.  I know Graham and Chicago will have the importaddress RPC call sorted out.

What's the most active branch/fork of the DTC repo?

Chicago's branch is the furthest in terms of development.  https://github.com/CoiningPress/datacoin
Currently for testing as Datacoin 0.8.6.

Graham's branch is the reference client.  https://github.com/gjhiggins/datacoin

Team, I just noticed a limitation with datacoin and Apertus.io.  the version I am using v0.1.2.0dtc-hp11-unk-beta  does not support the importaddress RPC call that was introduced with bitcoin 0.10.x  because of this datacoin will not support several of the Apertus.io social media like functions that other blockchains are able to use.
the importaddress call is used to implement hash tag keywords, Proof of ownership searching, following profiles  and decentralized voting.  none of these features will work properly on datacoin unless the importaddress RPC call is implemented.  my previous comments about starting a #rDatacoin thread on datacoin is not possible at this time.  you can still use the #rDatacoin keyword and other keywords in your etching but nobody will be able to search for them unless importaddress() is supported.

Thanks for your time.
embii

This is critical.  Currently we are testing Datacoin 0.8.6 and will upgrade to 0.10.x in time.

Found a nifty cryptocurrency search engine while idling in ##altcoins and right now it doesn't look like they've heard of Datacoin.

to me
You're right, and we've just added DTC (Datacoin) to the database.

Thank you for the information -- we're always happy to receive
information about currencies that we've missed so that we can make
sure that they're included, and we very much appreciate that you've
taken the time to share this information with us.

We feel that including more currencies in the Currency Root database
is beneficial to the entire cryptographic currency industry, which is
why we're glad you've provided us with this information.  At this
piont the Currency Root web site is still new, but we do have plans
to add individual pages for every currency in the near future that
provides more information than what you currently see listed.  If you
would like, I'd be happy to let you know once the separate page for
DTC is functional (all currency pages will be ready at that time).

That is very nice of you.

We need to set up a development fund. Maybe something as simple as a DTC or BTC address.
