443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: -- The Masses are Coming! The Masses are Coming! DON'T sell. on: November 30, 2013, 04:42:09 PM
I have no opinion about IxCoin, but there is no denying that the alts are on fire.

Think about it - forex is the biggest market on earth.  About $80 - 100 trillion.

The cryptocurrencies are going to grab a fair chunk of that.  Something like 10%

That's maybe $10 trillion.  At the moment all the cryptos are worth $10 billion.

So there is quite a bit of upside.  Vlad's analysis is right.

Have to agree with Vlad - altcoins going crazy!

Maxsolnc - thanks for linking the forum (www.datacoin.freeforums.org) on your site.

If you don't mind and if you have time please join the forum so that I can add you as an Administrator.  Seems like the logical thing to do.

I set up www.datacoin.freeforums.org.  You can use it if you like.

It still needs to be populated.

457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DTC] Datacoin - Brainstorming Giveaway - Get coins for sharing ideas! on: November 20, 2013, 09:20:44 PM
I asked Cryptsy to add Datacoin (as a feature request on the support forums)

https://cryptsy.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/41010

Perhaps others should go and support the request.
458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [WTB] Buying Gridcoin on: November 20, 2013, 07:11:43 PM
But what can you actually do with Gridcoin?  Can you buy processing power?  Can you submit work units to be processed?  I am thinking of rendering for animation.  Can the Gridcoin network act like a renderfarm?

@maxsolc:

I agree with you, Datacoin should rather be compared to VPS services.  I checked around and I see roughly 1BTC per TB per month.  So say over 5 years about 60 BTC for 1 TB storage.

You get 20kb storage for 1 DTC (hard coded).  So 50 million DTC to store 1 TB.

Therefore 1 DTC = 60BTC/50 000 000 = 0.0000012 BTC

Or 1 BTC = 833 333 DTC

Don't get me wrong - I love this coin because it has real value.  It is backed by file storage (and some bandwidth), which is worth something.  The assets of the p2p network are bandwidth, file storage and parallel processing.  Coins which monetize these assets automatically have value and should be successful.  The other coin I like is Gridcoin, which offers BOINC processing.

@oocook5u:

I understand messaging will be implemented in Bitcoin 0.9.  The messages will be pruned immediately, so there will be no bloat to the blockchain.  Datacoin will therefore have messaging, like all other alts who use or inherit the changes to the Bitcoin client.

You can buy a 1 TB disk for about 1BTC or less.  So 1 kb costs about 1/1000 000 000 BTC = 0.05 DTC (hard-coded)

So 1 DTC should equal about 20/1000 000 000 BTC = 0.00000002BTC
