@oocook5u:  relay OP_RETURN <data> TxOut does not write anything to the blockchain.  The message is only passed to an address.

Email Cryptsy and ask for a listing.
See if we can add a transaction to process BOINC work units
Add the messaging feature Gavin is preparing for Bitcoin: relay OP_RETURN <data> TxOut
Compress the data

Get people to pay for downloads as well, so that you have a properly funded Wikipedia/media repository.

How was this done in the coding?  Any new script versions created?

Can you also send messages with this coin?

Thanks oocook5u.  This is an idea whose time has come.  A real use for cryptocurrencies.
465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Datacoin Giveaway! 3 Datacoins per person! (Updated: 3 coins instead of 2!!) on: November 18, 2013, 06:21:19 PM
Jeez.  Thanks.  I received 2 already.

Owen

Some of these posts will confuse you.  You need to look at the languages of Bitcoin.

The Bitcoin client is written in C++.  Bitcoin-Qt is also written in C++ but compiled using QtCreator.  Like corebob said, C++ is 20 years of pain and suffering but you have to know it.  It is the hard core engineering language.  No quarter given and no prisoners taken.

Bitcoin transactions are written in Script, which is a form of Forth.  You can download gforth and play with it.

To actually understand how object orientated code works, I would recommend Python.  An easy language to understand.

Java is useful in a web/Internet environment but not really relevant to Bitcoin.

For a gentle introduction to Linux I would go with Lubuntu.

Relay OP_RETURN <data> TxOut will be a standard transaction in Bitcoin 0.9.  So then you will be able to send messages and data without clogging up the blockchain.

469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MC2 ("Netcoin"): A cryptocurrency based on a hybrid PoW/PoS system on: May 11, 2013, 06:53:32 AM
See if you can add in demurrage to this coin (like freicoin).  A demurrage currency using PoS would be awesome.

You would be able to recycle lost wallets, keep a constant coinbase and provide the interest of the PoS.  And use very little electricity.

To speed up settlement you should really look at Ripple's proof of consensus (PoC), perhaps as a replacement for the PoW in your system.  For commercial use a cryptocurrency has to settle and be confirmed in seconds, not minutes.

Hmmm...  PoC followed by PoS?  A fast, low energy coin with a constant eternal coinbase and perpetual rewards for the users?  That would be interesting.

don't be so negative, the 5-post-4-hour-rule is there for a reason: to get rid of the trolls. NOT to piss newcomers off.

I actually wanted some XRP from Ripple, and needed to post on the Bitcoin Forum to get it.  Then I discovered I was still a newbie!
Now I need to post and stay online for 4 hours to get my ripples.

If you are looking for free ripples go to the Ripple forum https://ripple.com/forum.

And I actually need Ripple to trade Freicoin.  Complicated, but easy to understand.

You have to browse for 4 hours and make a few posts.

If you make your post in this thread, I'll quote it on the other thread for you, if you like.

Just testing to see if you can post DURING the 4 hours....

Hmmm...  Looks like I can...
