N00b here trying out your pool with my 7970.

With BTC I've always used Phoenix.
But I cannot seem to make it work?

backend = http://jacQues.(name):(pass)@ppc.fixx.ru:8437

Am I doing something silly?

Regards,
jacQues

Use cgminer to work with its a lot better and a lot more options too.

Been looking for a good PPC pool. Will be trying this out...

Also, no experience with Phoenix, but CGMiner is so plug and play most of the time.. heavily recommended...!

I am in the market for new pools for BTC, any suggestions? Also, are there any reputable pools for alt coins that aren't Coinotron? Seems like the only other one I remember closed down.

Also, I used to really like, and still do love, PPLNS when mining. But I haven't used PPLNS for BTC in months, and when looking at BTCGuild and considering their market share, it seems like a great situation. Why would you choose PPS with a higher fee when they have ~25% of the hash rate..? Or am I missing something?

Also, any guesses on the bandwidth requirements for these machines, the Avalons?

Pretty negligible, if I understand your question.  My Avalon [batch 2, black case] barely effects my network's access to the Internet.  Also, the reverse seems true as well.  I am able to stream Netflix, browse the web, FTP large files, without effecting the Avalon's performance from what I can tell.  I'd bet any DSL-equivalent Internet access speeds are sufficient.  I have cable access at about 6 Mbps up and down, but would trust a 1 Mbps up/down link to be more than sufficient for mining.

I only ask as I was testing a unit on a different network and it hashed for a bit, but it felt like my ping died completely, severe packet loss that didn't exist prior. Strangely the Avalon lost and refused connection suddenly. Afteer disconnecting the Avalon the net problems absolved, my other network however is having no problems.

Must be something in this network. Thanks for all the responses.

Having trouble pointing an Avalon @ Alt coins... any suggestions as to why?

Also, can't seem to connect anywhere that uses Getwork. IE pit.deepbit.com:8332 is socket error, same with Coinotron unless I add stratum. however, simply changing the port and etc for Coinotron that would normally allow me to mine alt coins does not do so, rather it just forces BTC. These mine SHA-256, is there some trick I am missing to mine more than BTC?

PAL and NTSC are TV formats ...

I think you wanted to point out the difference in frequency ... 50Hz and 60Hz ... which is also present in PAL/NTSC but still, those have nothing to do with electricity or sockets Wink

No, I'm talking about electricity, but yes, I did reference TV formats on accident. But what I meant was Euros use 220v and in the States it's 110v standard and often converters can be necessary depending on the device.

429  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Batch 3 , Unit 4 module = total RIPOFF on: July 25, 2013, 10:59:34 PM
Can we elaborate here? I'm not in the know.

In a nutshell,
1. No one has received a 4 module Batch 3 unit yet.
2. ROI is decreasing by day, to the point where you may never make back what you paid for one of the units once you finally receive it.

Appreciate it. So is that to imply that Batch 3 "3 modules" have shipped? 4 module is.. 100gash?

Correct me if wrong, but Aussies use PAL and not NTSC.  Anything to do with it? It should be a standard power cord.

I'm not sure if it has to do with sockets or not. I just know that the conversion is important and didn't know if it actually had a hardware difference. Just dropping that tidbit in here in case it was related.

Love Kratom. I would love to purchase Kratom for BTC.

I will sell Kratom for bitcoin if the order is big enough since of bitcoin fees.

I normally buy a couple of pounds or kilos, depending on the price and quality.

I have 15 gram packs of Green malay currently, nothing more than that right now. I will be adding bulk when I start making sales.

Oh yikes. I really only like the Bali and .. hmm, I think it was thai.. actually I can't recall the other I liked quite a bit. I probably won't be interested in anything under a couple hundred grams of it.
