161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [TUTORIAL] Solo Mining Litecoins Guide--Windows! on: September 24, 2012, 08:27:36 AM
Finally found another one a little bit ago.  My speed currently is 480 khash/s on this 6950, but at night when it is cooler I can push it to 530 khash/s.
Awesome.  My latest block was at 23 hours from previous block. I was pushing them pretty hard at 420kh/s earlier as we hardly use the computers on Sundays.  Yet about half an hour ago, one of my miners failed-over to pool 1 for about 20 minutes, yet my other miner was fine, and the daemon was fine.  I had to [q]uit cgminer and restart to get it to go back to solo. Weird.  But thank God I had a failer over, otherwise it would have been mining for nothing.

just started soloing with 1650kh/s (3x 7950s), hopefully i'll get some blocks soon. thanks for the guide!

Cool. You should get one every 6 to 7 hours based on litecoinpool's calculator
162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [TUTORIAL] Solo Mining Litecoins Guide--Windows! on: September 23, 2012, 08:22:23 PM
Guess I am just having bad luck, guess that's what I get for solving 2 in the first 12 hours - made me think I should be seeing more.

Yeah, you were super duper lucky on that one.  What's your speed (again)?
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [TUTORIAL] Solo Mining Litecoins Guide--Windows! on: September 23, 2012, 10:10:09 AM
ditch, are you solo mining? You should see "New block detected..." every 2 minutes or so, as well as any rejects.

Every now and then I get a reject.  I don't know exactly what that means, but it keeps going tho.  At my speed of 400kh/s, I am solving a block every 27 hours.  The highest intensity I put when computers are idle is 16. This makes the mouse dramatically slow, and I can't watch any videos. (I can on i12)

One thing that is helping me out is setting up a --failover-only with a second pool, a real pool that has long polling. That way cgminer gets the LP notification, and your litecoin daemon will benefit and switch to the new block faster than if you didn't have a second pool.

Can you post a screenshot of your cgminer?  Here's mine:

as you can see, i am "connected to http://192.168.1.27:9332" which is my other computer that is running the daemon.  If i were mining solo, I wouldn't have LP, but it's taking the LP data from my secondary pool (notroll.in) and using that. Notice I also have a rejected "share" there. That is NOT from the pool, as you can see it's "pool 0" which is Solo.

My batch file:
Code:
color 0C
cgminer --scrypt --device 0 -I 12,1 -g 1 --shaders 800 -o http://192.168.1.27:9332 -u panda -p miner --failover-only -o http://notroll.in:6332 -u Panda47.failover1 -p 12345

If you have a second pool with LP, instead of seeing "New Block Detected..." you see "LONGPOLL from pool 1 detected a new block" like you see in my screenshot.

BTW, those "accepted" shares you see there are because my solo computer rebooted automatically for windows updates. Luckily I am awake at 3 in the morning.  Strangely, I didn't get any rejects when it was mining for the pool, those 5 have been in the past 24 hours.
164  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS]: Green piece of paper on: September 22, 2012, 10:49:16 PM
Damn, you'd better email the federal reserve. Though I guess they already know as there are still some trees left. Maybe when they finally get around to releasing version 0.2 they'll fix that.

Seriously though, I heard they have had the "new" $100 design printed up for a few years, and are just waiting on the debasement to say that the new design is for the "new US dollar," revalued at the low low rate. In other words, they are waiting on over inflation to kick in.  Then truly these green papers will only be worth the BTU's they give off when burning them.
165  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: butterflylabs the single on: September 22, 2012, 03:31:41 PM
12 shares per minute with 896 MH/s bitstream  cgminer reports 850 MH/s, u: 12-12.2
or 518,400 shares per month which works out to about 10 coins.

It all depends on luck, and the pool's fees, and their payment method.  With average luck, I think I could get ~15 coins in the first month*, and then less and less each month after that as the difficulty increases.

* not including expenses of electricity and cooling
166  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASICs for sale on eBay on: September 22, 2012, 02:29:17 PM
Sorry for the ignorance, but I started hardware mining a while ago and haven't looked at bitcoin for a few months. Is there a link to these new BFL ASICs or more info where I can read about them?
Yes. Go search for Butterfly Labs.

+1 to you sir, and in case ARapalo was kidding, +1 to him too.
167  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS]: Green piece of paper on: September 22, 2012, 11:45:49 AM
I can definitely see this turning in to a proper Onion story.

Hell yeah!

If I had a blog or a venue for articles, I would write something along the lines of: Bitcoins are used to buy green paper which in turn is used to buy illegal merchandise.  This paper is untraceable, and many people are using it in every-day transactions. Some say it is a pyramid scheme to scam you out of your cryptocurrency.  Buyer beware!
168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 20 x 1Oz Silver bars AT SPOT for LTC, FREE Shipping, Price is fixed daily on: September 22, 2012, 06:10:52 AM
Whatever the shipping costs are.  $5 USD domestic usa... international I am not sure. I would have to ask my post office.

$5 in shipping? Is it insured and tracked too?

Seriously? Postage for 1 oz shouldn't cost $5.

I was thinking of the USPS flat rate shipping of $4.xx :p
169  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS]: Green piece of paper on: September 22, 2012, 06:06:20 AM
You forgot to mention if buyers will get the same, or just similar papers.
Also, will they be in the same mint condition?

I think I have seen that serial # on the silk road tracking system. I will stay away for now. GL to you sir.
170  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [wts] bfl single on: September 22, 2012, 05:54:26 AM
You started the bid at $100 OVER the selling price for a NEW one at BFL?

171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When solo LTC mining, is there a way to get notified when you solve a block? on: September 22, 2012, 05:16:21 AM
Greedi, not to sound rude or anything, but stop trolling me to post on your forum. It's effectively dead.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When solo LTC mining, is there a way to get notified when you solve a block? on: September 21, 2012, 05:46:31 PM
I thought I was in the right forum. Wrong tab I guess.

173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [nvm] When solo LTC mining, is there a way to get notified when U solve a block on: September 21, 2012, 03:01:23 PM
When solo mining, is there a way to get notified when you solve a block?

I have Litecoin-QT -server running on an unmonitored computer.  Is there an API or something I could set up to get notified (via email/text/ping etc) when I solve a block?

I have tried searching the forum but I get nowhere on this.

Thanks for your time.
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [TUTORIAL] Solo Mining Litecoins Guide--Windows! on: September 21, 2012, 02:17:20 PM
Did it ever go up to what you expected after an hour or so?

Yes, my 6790 on intensity 12 is 137kH on average.  On I 16 it only adds 12kH. (my card has 800 shaders)
175  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed RPC linux/windows/osx/mip/r-pi 2.7.5 on: September 21, 2012, 05:09:08 AM
Since you went to the effort of really trying hard and providing lots of info, I will try my best to decipher what your problem may be. Fortunately it's a little bit more than "dunno" but not certain.
...snip...
You'll see that GPU1 never actually gets going. There's a good chance the code just gets stuck waiting for this device to respond and it never happens, and meanwhile the rest is already underway with GPU0.

I doubt a driver update will do anything for you, but I suggest you try mining with just GPU0 by adding something like
Code:
-D 0 --remove-disabled
and see if that gets it going. There's a good chance that GPU1 will be so bad at scrypt mining even if you do get it working that it's not worth it.

Thanks for your time, and input. I have fixed the "missing header" issue by upgrading/installing.  I did the easyone first, that didn't "fix" it... I installed something called AMD APP SDK v2.7  <embarassed>

Manual reboot (cuz i wanted to) and nothing fixed.

Then I did what I was afraid to do, I upgraded Catalyst.  I was able to find version 12.6 and installed it w/o incident.  I didn't even reboot, and cgMiner 2.6.4 (and 2.7.5) shows me the header/menu!!

Once again, I thank Kano & ckolivas for their time and troubles. I was just afraid to upgrade Catalyst and if I ultimately gave up on LTC, and wanted to mine BTC, that 12.6 was going to be a bitch to take off/downgrade. (cuz I had to do that late last year)

Incidentally, you may have missed it on my previous post, but I was manually disabling GPU 1 with --device 0 in the batch file.

But just for shits & giggles, I added that switch, and GPU 1 is not shown in the header, but when I go to change settings, it still asks me which GPU I want to make changes on, so I'll just let it "show" me the disabled card. cheers.

My next challenge, tweaking the hashrates!!
176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [TUTORIAL] Solo Mining Litecoins Guide--Windows! on: September 21, 2012, 04:45:35 AM
I wrote my own port-scanning application.

Anywho, if it is listening, have you tried connecting another 3rd computer up? Does that run fine?

You wrote one? cool.  I found a suitable one, but I'd love to try yours out.

Anyhoo, I have solved the "missing" header problem.  I upgraded Catalyst 12.6 (from 11.12).

Now the hashes seem low, but I've heard that I need to give it time to show true kH rates.
177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solo mining LTC keeps moving to new block - Normal? on: September 21, 2012, 03:47:37 AM
I've seen "new block detected" at 1 minute intervals every now and again, but it's rare. I even saw once two blocks within 2 seconds of each other, although that may have been due to a polling issue.
178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Auction] 1 ozt .999 Mexican Libertad 2002 coin - circulated - For LTC on: September 20, 2012, 03:02:17 PM
You should maybe post this on LitecoinTalk aswell Smiley

Okay, auction has been cross-posted to LitecoinTalk as well.

179  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER on: September 20, 2012, 02:23:30 PM
Other possibilities I can think of are:
1) Some problem with your curses library
2) Some default cgminer.conf file setting some unexpected setting
3) Different version of windows
Otherwise - no idea.

Thanks kano...

Okay, I spent all night reading the other thread that started the bounty to get ckolivas working on scrypt support for cgminer. I also read the cgminer readme twice. I learned a lot of stuff, and do not know what the problem could be yet.

I haven't made too many changes, but I fear it could be that solo mining on secondary computers are glitchy, or there is something awry with my computer.

I will post what my current configuration on my machine is.  I just hope I can revert when I make any changes. I admit, some things in that other thread went over my head.

My everyday work/media computer:
  • Windows Home Premium x64, SP1
  • AMD Phenom II x4 955 black edition, 3.2 ghz
  • 8 GB memory
  • GPU (device) 0: PCIex16 - Sapphire Radeon HD 6790 - 2 monitors (HDMI [#1], DVI [#3])
  • GPU (device) 1: AGP  - ATi Radeon HD 46xx - 1 monitor (DVI [#2]) - my "main display"
  • Mainboard: MSI  (MS-7599) - two USB3 channels, but 1 gets disabled with my PCIex16 GUP

My AMD VISION Engine Control Center reports:
  • Driver Packaging Version: 8.92-111109a-129966C-ATI
  • Catalyst Version: 11.12
  • 2D Driver Version: 8.01.01.1215
  • Direct3D Version: 7.14.10.0879
  • OpenGL Version: 6.14.10.11318
  • Vendor: 1002
  • Memory: 1024 MB
  • Core Clock: 840 mhz
  • Mem Clock: 1050 mhz
  • Total Mem Bandwidth: 134.4 GB/s

My batch file: (all on one line)
Code:
cgminer --scrypt --device 0 -I 12 --shaders 800
-o http://192.168.1.27:9332 -u panda -p miner
-o http://notroll.in:6332 -u Panda47.failsafe -p 12345

The verbose dump:
Code:

There is no cgminer.conf file.

I don't know what other info to provide.

I know I can upgrade the Catalyst to 12.8 but not sure if it doesn't work out, how to get back to 11.12 (which I know works for BTC mining).
But how do I know what SDK I have? What are curses?

To recap my problem... cgMiner is running Solo mining, but from a different computer on the same home network, but it does not "show" the header, and does not update the window. However it DOES hash as confirmed with the pool I try it with by itself.

ckolivas, titiez, if you can read this, what is going on? I would like your input, even if it's "I dunno". Thanks.

EDIT: I upgraded the catalyst from 11.12 to 12.6 and i can now see the "header"
