1101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin was Created by the CIA, FBI, US Military??? on: August 27, 2019, 09:53:52 AM
what if people have already asked this question a million times already? Roll Eyes
1102  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-08-23] Bitcoin Miners Are Heating Homes Free of Charge in Frigid Siberia on: August 27, 2019, 08:06:16 AM
Belarus is an example of such a country-- they offer very low taxation to even no taxation at all, but who is going to take that offer knowing how unstable the government there is?

you mean the opposite; Belarusian government has barely changed for something like 40 or 50 years. That's stability, not instability

At least some of the miners are fairly noisy too.

I would

1. Remove any carpeting, add a wooden floor if there was not one already. Place miners in the partition beneath the wooden floor
2. Run the miners on a lower setting during the day as a cronjob (reduce fan noise)

The idea itself is simple but the plan is way too complicated to achieve.

[snip]

The citizens who have received mining rigs will act out as a caretaker observing the mining rigs and know simple troubleshooting just in case the equipment is not working properly. Expecting that kind of task is being achieve by each one of them seems to be unlikely

in the short term, sure

but if Bitcoin is here for the long-term, then an entire generation of expert Bitcoin miners could emerge in Siberia. Sounds alright to me.
1103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Aptitude Test on: August 27, 2019, 07:38:01 AM
After you register the hyperlink for Unit 1 should be available. Click on it to begin the course.

I did... and there's still no hyperlink available. Shows the course, the Unit 1 and 2. But no hyperlink. It shows me my username so I think the registration worked. Funny thing is I didn't get any confirmation email in my inbox used to register though.

lol

this test cannot pass the "write some basic html/javascript" test

Carlton, https://whowhatwhy.org/2016/01/27/disinformation-part-1-how-trolls-control-an-internet-forum/

Go to "forum sliding" and "inoculating the public against the truth".

I believe everyone who knows more than me about Bitcoin should join in, and spread as much correct information as possible in the forum.

you've misunderstood the game

I once discovered that a troll (who you regularly engage) was posting for over 20 hours straight. That means a minimum of 2 people both have the login for that account, and must coordinate their responses in order that they do not contradict themselves when speaking as the single character they pretend to be

look at it another way

if you have good knowledge of Bitcoin, what is the most effective use of it?

Anonymint and Zin-Zang?

you've likely spoken to them both, but they frequently register new usernames to troll BCT with

(khao77 is very likely Zin-Zang, aliashraf is very likely Anonymint)
1105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Avast deleted block blk00129.dat from my chainlist on: August 27, 2019, 05:47:37 AM
@cryptojor

anti-virus is a pointless waste of space, just delete the av program

in the days when updating your system over the internet was unheard of, computer viruses sometimes did spread. in practice, they were still rare.

now, there are no malware threats that cannot be mitigated by simply choosing a secure operating system, and keeping it up to date. I've been doing exactly that for 10 years, any virus worth a damn would have stolen some of my BTC, and that hasn't happened.
1106  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-26] The IRS is warning thousands of cryptocurrency holders to pay taxes on: August 27, 2019, 05:33:06 AM
It's easy talking right now, until you come to a point where you realize that no amount of money is worth the torture and imprisonment the government gangsters subject you to when you don't pay your taxes.

this is true. i'm not paying 1 satoshi though

I am against certain forms of taxation as well, but that still isn't worth it to me to not pay anything and risk very long prison time. You only live once, so why make things unnecessarily more complicated for yourself?

you only live once, why sell everyone out just for yourself?

I do wonder though, what made you become so aggressive against taxation? Have you been treated unfairly because of a dispute between you and your tax authority?

It was when I discovered that the established media, financial system, academia and the justice system were housing a bunch of lying crooks that prop up a false narrative of how the government are just here to help you, when in fact they're squashing regular people's power, their ability to fight back, and murdering millions and millions of them instead

BitHodler, do you want to stand by and maintain that system? you have massively questionable ethics if so, that's the sort of thinking that gave us Apartheid or Nazi Germany. What wouldn't you do to save your own skin?

I'm already past my limit with the genocide, then lying to me and everyone else to actually attempt to convince me genocide is necessary. But you're cool with that?

"Cowardice asks 'is it safe?'
Vanity asks 'is it popular?'
Expediency asks 'is it politic?'

But conscience asks 'is it right?'
And there must come a time, when we do something not because it is safe, popular, or political
But because it is right"
1107  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-08-26] Bitcoin Lightning Network Statistics Show Signs of Stalling on: August 26, 2019, 08:50:54 PM
A lot of that liquidity that might have been still there if the price didn't significantly shoot up. It's perfectly normal that it goes down with how merchants accepting Lightning payments suddenly have 3x'd their revenue and for that reason have to cash out to reap the fruits of the bull run.

Then we have the liquidity that was added during the 'hype' where Lightning was in the news almost every single day. Now Lightning isn't making new headlines anymore that liquidity has been withdrawn.

I'm biased, but the people writing comments in this news section often have better information and better analysis than the so-called reporting they're commenting on. and it's ctually like that many places on the internet, good information is found in the comments not written by the ostensible professionals. it's like that phenomenon where teachers are usually useless at practical applications of the subject they teach
1108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the benefit of being Satoshi Nakamoto? on: August 26, 2019, 07:14:35 PM
For the past few years, I've been thinking off and on that Satoshi is actually more than one person.
It sounds ridiculous

no it doesn't, it sounds entirely plausible
1109  Other / Meta / Re: People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 26, 2019, 06:46:57 PM
I certainly don't perform "astro-turfing"

that's exactly what an astro-turfer would say! Cheesy

i usually left the discussion when the troll start going off-topic, insulting other member (where as few others decide to respond with insult) or bring another point which i already discussed previously.

And if i want to do "astro-turfing", i could do it by correcting every single statement which made by people who don't know about technical topics at all which is far easier.

indeed, you contribute all over the forum. one could make the argument that I am a former astro-turfer/troll-bukkaker covering my tracks, as I used to engage trolls too much, if only to identify them as such

@WindFURY and @DooMAD exist seemingly only to talk to the trolls though. They barely make any other posts.
1110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the benefit of being Satoshi Nakamoto? on: August 26, 2019, 06:40:28 PM
between 500,000 and 1 million BTC

that's alot of benefits
1111  Other / Meta / Re: People who argue with trolls on technical matters on: August 26, 2019, 06:27:55 PM
Heh, I gracefully avoided that thread, exactly because I was expecting yet another "WindFury vs Franky1 show" that will bring nothing new.

we could call them troll orgies, or maybe troll-bukkake? Cheesy

In this thread, Anonymint & Zin-Zang take a shit in WindFURY's mouth, WINDFury burps and says 'thankyou, more please!!!'
1112  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-08-26] Bitcoin Lightning Network Statistics Show Signs of Stalling on: August 26, 2019, 06:17:25 PM
the Lightning network, Bitcoin’s main off-chain transaction solution touted as a potential remedy to scaling issues, appears to have lost momentum in growth

correct, it's actually lost some liquidity since it's peak

and maturity

incorrect

the software development is the indicator of the network's maturity, and both updated clients and plans for new improvements are continuing

  • Trampoline routing tackles routing scaling; nodes would keep a local routing map, instead of maintaining a map of the whole network, then they delegate routing decisions to other nodes with knowledge of their own locality
  • Path splicing/permute-route will handle route failures quicker by continuing from the last known good point on a failed route, then calculating multiple possible routes from there (currently, entire route is re-computed on failure)
  • Eltoo makes it impossible to steal funds with old channel states, effectively removing the need for penalties and watchtowers (un-cooperative channel partners can close an Eltoo channel, not use old states)
  • AMP improves liquidity by allowing a node to use multiple channel balances to satisfy a single relayed payment
  • Channel Factories allow users to collaboratively rebalance channels, without having to pay routing fees
  • Statechains are not a Lightning specific tech, but could improve Lightning by enabling a 1 step setup for people who own zero BTC

There's SO MUCH stuff happening with Lightning, I'm sure I must have forgotten at least 3 or 4 other improvements.

So, hey, "journalists", any chance of you, I dunno, doing your job? Instead of other people doing it for you?
1113  Other / Meta / Re: People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 26, 2019, 04:16:12 PM
(for the record, pooya87 and ETFBitcoin actually do make contributions to the forum in addition to entertaining trolls)
1114  Other / Meta / Re: People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 26, 2019, 04:14:03 PM
@DooMAD

don't you think that when your account is 99% arguing with trolls, it makes you look like a fake?

i.e. you're only here to keep the trolling alive, not to stop it?

I [snip] can't see how you win a debate by only letting the opponent speak

edit: "sometimes, the only winning move is not to play"
1115  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Ubuntu to Windows Wallet Migration Good or Bad Idea? on: August 26, 2019, 04:10:26 PM
I have never really felt comfortable with the Ubuntu Linux OS

you're never going to be comfortable using something if you use it once, then don't touch it for several years

Will an Armory Ubuntu wallet still be recognized on a Armory Windows setup?

yes

Additionally, do my private keys on my Offline Ubuntu PC stay where they are at?  Or do I need to move them to a separate offline Windows PC?

keys can stay on Ubuntu offline machine.

In short, is it a good or bad idea to migrate from Ubuntu over to Windows?

it'll work, but you're giving up your privacy, who Microsoft will sell to anyone they like
1116  Other / Meta / Re: People who argue with trolls on technical matters on: August 26, 2019, 03:37:10 PM
You should defend your viewpoint/stance and others who are looking can come to their own conclusions.

what's with the "should" part?

I am defending my stance so that others can come to their own conclusions: in this thread, that you posted in Huh
1117  Other / Meta / Re: People who argue with trolls on technical matters on: August 26, 2019, 03:24:30 PM
this is really a rhetorical point I'm making, but maybe it will spark a discussion

but certain users should be singled out for this behaviour, notably:

@WindFURY

@DooMAD

@ETFBitcoin

@pooya87

(perhaps other notorious users have been left out, I'll add later if I think of them)

So, would you like to explain your own personal answers to this question?
1118  Other / Meta / [TROLL-UKKAKE] People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 26, 2019, 03:15:35 PM
Question:

What is the difference between BCT users who argue with technical trolls

and

"astro-turfing" users who are actually working with the trolls to make it appear like there's still a legitimate argument taking place

Example: Segwit thread on Discussion sub

Answer:

Not much
1119  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenNode requires KYC now! on: August 26, 2019, 03:08:47 PM
many people should have already understood that this requirement is quite very mandatory

no it isn't

we really want to get the industry regulated

speak for yourself

regulations get used to push small businesses out of the marketplace, and are hence a bad idea that only established/big businesses want

Most people keeps shouting on top of their voices for regulation

I'm not. I am a person. Other don't want it either, and choose to avoid it

Tell you what: you use it, if you want to. Don't tell me or anyone else what to do though

How do you catch a thief if not by its identity

and it's already been adequately proven in this thread that protecting your identity is not just for crooks

kyc is much more needed than all those personal disagreement with kyc

wrong again

it is time we embrace it and just make sure that whoever we are submitting our kyc to will not use it against us please.

that's incredibly naive. thank god you've not got any power (one can tell these things)

Government would also need it if they are to regulate the industry.

terrible idea, the same old "we're protecting you" will really mean "we're protecting our friends"
1120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenNode requires KYC now! on: August 26, 2019, 11:34:09 AM
I am just looking at the brighter side of it because increasing KYC compliance will inly increase the chance of cryptos being accepted into the mainstream economy. Resisting it will only make things worse than ever!

you're wrong, again

economic power gives you more powerful rights than anything else can, rich people know this

you're basically encouraging everyone to simply accept a reduction in the power everyday people have, by giving up information about themselves to the most powerful people who are abusing the information to increase their own economic power, and may well abuse it in increasingly less ethical ways

it's not like you don't already know this at some level, but now I've spelled it out to you, will you continue to adhere to your point of view?
