1081  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Ubuntu to Windows Wallet Migration Good or Bad Idea? on: August 28, 2019, 08:14:53 AM
The bridge I will eventually have to cross is learning how to transfer the entire blockchain data from the old hard drive to the new 4TB hard drive and also figure out how to migrate my Armory wallet over to the new 4TB hard drive.

come here or to the Tech Support sub, there's always plenty of help on offer.

However, I think maybe it may be smart if I wait for Armory version .97 to come out before I go about on building a new Ubuntu Armory laptop.

there's an unknown ETA on that. if you don't need to use your BTC for "a while" (a while of unknown length, that is), then it'll be alright to go that route

Lastly, I will reword one of my questions a different way.  The Armory download site (https://www.bitcoinarmory.com/download/) has

that's the old site, it's out of date

https://btcarmory.com is the new/genuine website, and version 0.96.5 is the current latest version
1082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Antiviruses on: August 28, 2019, 06:19:03 AM
I disagree.

Several user already have been warned from electrum phishing sites (or even from the malware they downloaded from that site) by their AV.
They would have lost their coins without an AV.

is phishing a virus?

it's not, is it?
1083  Other / Serious discussion / Re: It's hard to know who to believe. on: August 28, 2019, 06:16:34 AM
The western world says that the world is warming, and we will all be drowned or cooked in a few years. China says we are about to enter a period of global cooling, and we should prepare for that. China has been forecasting climate change for thousands of years, so we should at least consider their opinion.

who is "China"? what is that even supposed to mean? Chinese wildlife? Chinese ghosts of future past? Every single man, woman, child, transexual and apparition in China?

The climate change natzis are trying to force through legislation to reduce carbon emissions, but many research scientists seem to be of the opinion that we are in a period of carbon famine, and this is causing desertification.

sounds like a manipulative ploy by the alarmist/pay-government-for-the-right-to-breathe lobby

there's plenty of questionable science suporting the anthropogenic climate change argument, but measurements of proportion of CO2 in the atmosphere isn't part of that. It's increased over the last ~ 200 years from 0.03% to 0.04%, i.e. not much

still, a 0.01% increase has another observable and non-controversial effect; higher amounts of CO2 help plants to handle more adverse conditions. This means the exact opposite of desertification increase is happening, as the margins of desert areas literally are adverse habitats for plants to grow in. Thus, the margins of desert areas are pushed into the desert by increased CO2, not expanded, and the deserts shrink

you know what you could do, JC? instead of "believing" this or that, you could just use logic
1084  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-08-27] Craig Wright loses Kleiman case—billions in Bitcoin awarded to Klei on: August 27, 2019, 09:07:31 PM
I still disagree with the treatment of Craig Wright, despite him bringing the case (the idea that such a prosecution is even considered by the so-called justice system is the root of the problem, he just tried to take advantage of it)

if the world knows he's a dangerously bizarre scam artist, isn't that punishment enough? I would suggest that here in the information age, it would have been
1085  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin was Created by the CIA, FBI, US Military??? on: August 27, 2019, 09:02:23 PM
What kind of intelligence would they gather with an anonymous type of currency?

not that much

they could get a massive stake in a new currency, provided they did a good job of making it attractive to adopters
1086  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-08-26] Telegram's 300 Million Users Could Soon Be Trading Bitcoin ... on: August 27, 2019, 07:32:49 PM
Regarding the privacy, telegram is privacy oriented as long as they principles do not change, i will consider it cautiously pro privacy.

no it isn't

telegram servers know your phone number, and who you're talking to, even if the chat is encrypted. and considering most people just download the Google version, who knows what's really going on in that app
1087  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Zap (Android) has been released! on: August 27, 2019, 07:11:29 PM
meanwhile, the NODE_BLOOM service bit is set to be off by default in Bitcoin 0.19, which will be released in the fall

the actual wallet software (the BitcoinJ based on-chain Bitcoin Wallet) this sub is based on is set to slowly fade away, unless the developers change direction and add payment channels. It would be more appropriate as a mobile app anyway; if they implement BIP157 in BitcoinJ as a transitional step, then work on adding channel support after, that could keep this whole project going. It's the best mobile wallet app, so it would be a shame to see it relegated to bitcoin history
1088  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-08-23] Bitcoin Miners Are Heating Homes Free of Charge in Frigid Siberia on: August 27, 2019, 07:02:16 PM
Siberia mostly gets their heat from burning stuff so using it to power up miners wont be the best hting for enviroment.

bullshit

human-driven climate change is getting increasingly more de-bunked, not least since the "hockey-stick graph" climate scientist had his libel prosecution thrown out of court this week

why? he refused to present his so-called evidence in a courtroom. case dismissed

so ST fucking FU with that garbage pseudo-science, please
1089  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-8-27] Bitcoin Price 93% Unlikely to Hit $20K by End of 2019, Data Claims on: August 27, 2019, 05:12:52 PM
There is a 93% chance that Bitcoin (BTC) prices will not surpass their all-time high of $20,000 this year, according to market forecasts.

The latest data, from analyst “Skew” on Twitter

"Skew" (on Twitter) is wrong; according to my calculations, it's only 89.2663103492888374681927483333726899% likely to hit exactly $20,000 at midnight on Dec. 31 2019

Not all forecasts are as pessimistic. According to LedgerX's Oracle, there is a 31% chance of BTC/USD hitting $15,000 by Dec. 28.

these clowns are wrong, it's actually 32.10001.4.2.55.691512777777.3004852777.2% likely to hit $15,000 on Dec. 28, not 31%!!! these people are just pulling these numbers out of their ass y'know
1090  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-08-26] Telegram's 300 Million Users Could Soon Be Trading Bitcoin ... on: August 27, 2019, 04:49:50 PM
and Telegram message servers could also be used to identify all the people making trades

you'd be pretty ignorant to do this, the only secure/private messaging system is Tox (it's p2p, like Bitcoin. Telegram is not p2p)

i beg you chaps to chafe my oily sphincter with a cheese grater while i piss on your grandma's hairy belly

please! you're as disgusting as them!

save it for the troll bukkake
1092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Becoming Financially Free With Bitcoin on: August 27, 2019, 01:16:03 PM
Hopefully going into the future, BTC can provide a more stable way for people to hold their savings, and help people rise out of poverty.

you're still not yet grokking it

Bitcoin already is a more stable way for people to hold their savings, as there is no counterparty risk. don't worry, the market reflects your sentiment also, as the majority of participants don't really understand it yet

I've been saying for years now, there will eventually be a very high profile incidence of some official gangster asking a well-known public figure "give me your money", and the well known public figure just saying "no"

at that point, everyone will suddenly get it, and the exchange value will go supernova parabolic
1093  Other / Meta / Re: [TROLL-UKKAKE] People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 27, 2019, 12:48:35 PM
@nutildah (or anyone else)

were there ever any instances of Aliashraf defending/tag-teaming with other suspected Anonymint alts (i.e. dinofelis/TPTB_need_war/trainscarwreck etc)
1094  Other / Meta / Re: [TROLL-UKKAKE] People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 27, 2019, 12:16:00 PM
  • Khak77 _never_ posts in this Meta sub board
  • despite that, Khao77 found this thread very quickly

interesting, eh?
1095  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Becoming Financially Free With Bitcoin on: August 27, 2019, 11:37:01 AM
Even with Bitcoin, addresses can be blacklisted (i.e. anyone who transacts with that address with go to prison) if they are not registered with KYC.

you're wrong about that

there are many many ways to make it impossible to be sure if funds originated from blacklisted addresses, and further techniques will improve this in future

so why not extend your optimism to Bitcoin's personal sovereignty properties also? all you have to do is learn how it's done, easy
1096  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Becoming Financially Free With Bitcoin on: August 27, 2019, 11:11:18 AM
Well long-term I am going to buy property in other countries.

which are also subject to the whims of compulsory purchase or confiscation

I'm also going to be buying Gold.

which is also subject to the whims of compulsory... oh i see, you get it now, ok

I'm also going to be leaving some funds in Bitcoin, and also buying back into Bitcoin if there is a major dip after I cash out.

it's not the most free flowing way to do it, but try to use in person cash transactions to minimize the risk of doing this

another way is to simply buy raw materials (metals, wood, glass, oil etc) at the top of the Bitcoin market, providing you have some guarantees to find a buyer. If you can find a commodity that's at the bottom of it's market cycle, so much the better

and you'll have property at which to store it all too (did you consider buying industrial property as opposed to residential property?)
1097  Other / Meta / Re: [TROLL-UKKAKE] People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 27, 2019, 11:01:24 AM
for all intents and purposes, Aliashraf plays the role of Anonymint's reincarnation whether it really is him evading his ban or not.

He also came to anonymint's defense on the regular

nice work, added to original list Cool
1098  Other / Meta / Re: [TROLL-UKKAKE] People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 27, 2019, 10:30:59 AM
didn't anti-cen and RNC appear between the Zin Zang quitting/ban and the start of Khao77?

@Khak77 can you remember the details? Cheesy
1099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Becoming Financially Free With Bitcoin on: August 27, 2019, 10:27:39 AM
  • Invest a % of my Income into BTC (£100,000 / $120,000) - I have almost completed this step
  • Wait for that investment to grow by 5-10x
  • Pull out my profit and invest into residential property
  • Live off the rental income (passive income will be £100,000 / $120,000 p/a)

what if your local gangsterment forces you to sell the property to them, below market value via compulsory purchase?

If Bitcoin goes to 0, then it will be a major setback. It won’t ruin me, but it will take me two years to save up that money again (saving £50k from my £75k post tax income).

this is increasingly less likely

Bitcoin is financial freedom, because no-one can subvert your possession of it. This means demand will always be high, ensuring a high value. Satoshi was no slouch, y'know Wink
1100  Other / Meta / Re: [TROLL-UKKAKE] People who argue with trolls on technical matters are suspicious on: August 27, 2019, 10:19:35 AM
I'm curious about your thought that aliashraf is Anonymint, though.  I didn't get that impression, although I can see some similarities.

  • similarities in style/tone/presentation
  • similraties in the areas of knowledge used
  • appeared very shortly after Anonymint was perma-banned
  • defends Anonymint and petitions revocation of perma-ban

not definitive, but for all intents and purposes, Aliashraf plays the role of Anonymint's reincarnation whether it really is him evading his ban or not.

I expect Aliashraf will get heavily involved in trolling:

  • BIP-schnorr
  • BIP-taproot
  • sighash noinput

which is exactly what you could expect Anonymint/dinofelis/TPTB_need_war/trainscarwreck/Sheldon Moore MCMXCIIII to also get involved (plus new Anonymint alts, of course). Those users, or some of them, will return to get in on the tag-team bukkake, but they are probably all controlled by Anonymint

I'm also interested in where the banned accounts RNC and anti-cen fit into the equation and whether those are more Zin-Zang/Khaos77 accounts.

yeah, those are fairly obvious attempts to either evade the Zin Zang ban, or copy the posting style. don't understand why khak77 hasn't been banned yet, tbh
