361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MediterraneanCoin (MED) - REUSE your ERUPTER!! new hybrid PoW algo! on: March 04, 2014, 10:04:12 AM

I think that network hash rate is calculated through DIFFICULTY and BLOCK GENERATION SPEED.
so it's impossible that a "bad" config influence network hashrate.

Bitcoin Example:
Quote
expected_blocks = 144
difficulty = 11187257.461361 # this is on May 22nd 2013
blocks_found = 155 # Also May 22nd 2013
hash_rate = (blocks_found/expected_blocks*difficulty * 2**32 / 600)

MED example:
Quote
HASHRATE = DIFF * 2^32 / BLOCKTIME

HASHRATE = (100000 * 2**32) / 60
HASHRATE = 7,1582788 * 10^12 = 7,15 THS

ok, Last 24 Hours   , ibipot has found 1188 valid block out of 24*60=1440 ? that is 82,5 %

according to formula above ibipot pool hash should be: (1188/1440*102449 * 2**32) / 60 = 6.05 THS
ok, I'b fine with that, I could revise that php-mpos formula, but when I do this, pool will also report, that single BE will do 1.8GHS ? width that I'm not fine.. because my bfgminer will show 309 MHS... I'm bit confused.. scrypt will not add that much hashrate...

Another thing is pool luck.. but this is unreal that ibipot luck is so good all the time...

dev's what are your thoughts?

waiting for new generation BFG

BFG2 doesn't work well with some ASIC devices

try:

use 2nd gen bfgminer with "--http-port 1234" optrion: eg:
bfgminer.exe --http-port 1234 -o ibipot.com:3333 -u user.work -p 1

then use regular bitcoin mining software for your asic, eg:
cgminer -o 127.0.0.1:1234 -u bla.bla -p bla

this way you might get better result with some hardware

pool is coming back, if that problem repeats, then I have do switch back to single-server setup for further investigation.

is there something wrong with ibipot? 0 blocks in the last hour.

There was error, fixed now.

Thanks though it appears the pool is doing it again

ok, looks like multiple server are giving me some headache.. I'll look into that. shrares are still accepted, only web interface has some troubles..

Is it possible to use the detached mcproxy miner method to mine on a pool? I'm only seeing guides on how to solo mine like that

I believe ibipot has a guide in the getting started section
Yeah I'm just seeing that now... Looks like I need to compile a windows binary so the mcproxy can do stratum. Guess I need to figure out how to do that

what is you want to do? I have used 2nd gen MED bfgminer with --http-port option to do the job (bitcoinminer hashes -> 2nd gen med bgfminer -> pool).
Also you could use MCProxy4 that has stratum built in.

"errors" : "",
"networkhashps" : 7671796244623,

}

how is that exactly calculated? ibipot.com hash was tuned to be as close as possible to equipment mining power for bitcoin eg. when BFL Jalapeno does 7GH bitcoins then I tuned ibipot to show about the same for MED. Thats how ibipot hashrate is calculated from submitted shares. But if we find 82% of blocks... the we need to check where in MED system is the flaw.. Mayby ibipot should show that BE will do 2GH instead of 0.333GH that bfgminer/cgminer shows.. then the % - of nethash on ibipot hash will match...

any ideas? it does not seem to logic that solo miner do not find blocks...

Can find MediterraneanCoin in you list:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397831.0

Mediterraneancoin (MED) is a derivative of Bitcoin/Litecoin using a new proof-of-work algorithm called HybridScryptHash256.

Complete source code and binaries, documentation, tutorials etc:

The new Proof of Work algorithm HybridScryptHash256 is described in detail here: http://www.mediterraneancoin.org/hybridscrypthash256.pdf

HybridScryptHash256 integrates the best of Hash256 and Scrypt algorithms, allowing the reuse of the less powerful ASIC Block Erupter devices.

HybridScryptHash256 allows all the users of erupters and similar small ASIC devices to mine an altcoin without having "whales" coming and disrupt mining.

New mcproxy (called mcproxy3) with improved multithreading support

mcproxy3 is needed with first generation of bfgminer/cgminer, which you can find here:
http://www.mediterraneancoin.org/downloads/win32-cgminer-mediterraneancoin.zip
https://github.com/mrtexaznl/bfgminer/releases/download/v3.9.0.1-med/win32-bfgminer-1.zip

Source code: https://github.com/mrtexaznl/mcproxy/tree/master/mcproxy3, you can find it in the same repo of mcproxy (https://github.com/mrtexaznl/mcproxy)

direct link for downloading the binaries: http://www.mediterraneancoin.org/downloads/mcproxy3-dist.zip

Use in this way (if you stay in the same directory containing mcproxy3.jar: )
java -jar mcproxy3.jar

additional parameters:
-t: min delta time is the starting value for the mininum time distance between two successive getwork requests to the wallet.

-m: mininum queue length is the minimum number of getworks, elaborated with stage 1 of PoW, which mcproxy tries to keep in the queue, so that they are ready to be sent to the miners requesting them.

The tutorial for solo mining Mediterraneancoin on Windows is here!

IMPORTANT NOTE: when mining (solo or pool), you will need:
1 - the wallet (or daemon)
2 - mcproxy (an intermediate application which implements a part of the PoW algorithm) [mcproxy in included in the wallet binaries archives]
3 - the modified miner (cgminer or bfgminer)

see the tutorial here http://www.mediterraneancoin.org/#tutorial and/or post on the forum for support!

ATTENTION: when restarted, the daemon will do a rescan of the blockchain, which might take a few hours on slower machines.
Add a "rescan=0" option to your mediterraneancoin.conf configuration file to skip rescan.

instructions:
1 - stop the wallet (or the daemon) if is not running
2 - backup your wallet.dat file [this operation will not touch wallet.dat but it is always safe to make a backup of your wallet]
3 - inside .mediterraneancoin directory remove the previous blocks and chainstate directories
4 - uncompress the content of the archive inside .mediterraneancoin directory
5 - restart the wallet (or the daemon)
6 - wait for the wallet/daemon to complete the block rescan (might take hours!)

In a shadow of todays problems ibipot.com pool is now more scalable. It runs on multiple servers, stratum protocol is load-balanced into more nodes than before. Webpage runs separately. All server are using enterprise class SSD drives for the best performance and scalability.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience that I may have caused. I know some windows miner clients crashed during that time.

I still have minor fine-tuning to do but that should not interrupt mining but to reduce invalid blocks.

Sorry, I have to make a little disconnection two times.
1) to changes DB settings for scalability - about 2-3 minutes
2) to switch stratum to another server - about 5 seconds

All settings remain same to miners and miners should resume instantly.
----

all done.

any idea why I keep getting "worker is temporarily banned"? I'm also getting 50% rejected which it has never been consistently this high.

looking into it..

EDIT: seems that load-balancer is having some troubles, and directing all traffic to one node only.. working on it.
