I'm almost convinced that some or most of the Avalons are in use.

The network is up about 8 Thash/s or approx 360 Avalons.

Either the rightful owners are keeping a tight lip or someone is cashing in before they get delivered.
You're aware that ASICMINER has 3.7TH pointed at BTC Guild, right?
No, I wasn't aware. heh...

I saw how the pool's hashrate doubled last week and assumed it was the Avalons.
Yep ASICMINER is slowly coming online, and the recent price surge to over $30/BTC (!) has attracted a lot of miners that had previously shut off. Even GPUs are pretty profitable, but that could change for some at the next diff recalc. And the next one after that should be interesting, as well.

Yep and then when no customers get there hands on asic,s it will be a centralised mining oparation..which is not á good thing...!!

BlueTooth76 in Bitcoins - Virtueel Geld @ tweakers.net
Hallo,

226  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: February 21, 2013, 06:05:37 AM

Odd how the hash rate ramped up tho. Last week, 8000 mh/s then what looks like an avalon coming on after it.
Before 8000 mh/s looks like just a few gpus... Then a lot of gpus... Then an avalon?

Dunno.

@btcguild pool few weeks ago top 25 started with 20gh miner now place 25 has 40 gh...its going fast now...

I am continuing to work on shifting servers around in the background, and adding new IPs to the round robin DNS entries for Stratum.  Users should not be affected by any of these changes (no old servers are turning off yet).  This process is almost complete, which should eliminate the ability for a DDoS to take down all servers for extended lengths of time.  The servers are being relocated to different providers all over the country, some of which have policies which should prevent one of the more common DDoS attack vectors (many-many gbps UDP floods).

No amount of protection can eliminate the DDoS threat (at least without spending every dime the pool makes and possibly more), but by spreading the servers out, the hope is that future attacks can not take out all servers simultaneously, and that I will be able to modify the DNS entries to help mitigate attacks as they happen.

One note to Stratum users:  If you are currently mining on 50.31.149.57 (this used to be the redirect URL if you connected to btcguild.com:8332), please change your miner over to stratum.btcguild.com:3333 .  The 50.31.149.57 server will be turned off once the active connection count drops under 50, or by February 28th, whichever happens first.

I use "de.btcguild.com:8332" do i have to change to "stratum.btcguild.com:3333" also???

If your "fiat" just hanging around your bankaccount sleeping and you could mis some just buy ...enjoy the risk you take... And feel you are alive when the market keeps asking for your btc...nobody wants your fiat in the future,,,, Wink

Strange with almost 25% of the total hashpower isn't  Cry Cry

Not really.  It wasn't even 3 hours between the blocks.  The entire network regularly (few times a week) has periods of an hour or more without a block.  That's why variance is still a consideration when you're a huge amount of hash power.  A bad luck streak can drastically impact your earnings during a difficulty.

Ahaa okay that sounds fair  Wink. iam still allin pplns but only 14 gh time will tell how long ill keep mining with it..before i sell my rig !!

Couldnt you just mitigate your losses by having half your rig mine PPLNS and have other half do PPS?

Also, with the price rising like it has been, you're still making about the same when mining less BTC overall.

I did 50-50 but thats not the problem and you are right about the price rise sofar so good but in 2 -3 months i guess asics will get deliverd or asicminer gets 12 th then i think about stop mining and start trading BTC orso...

Common contrarian advice is to sell up when others are shouting how rich they're becoming and how the market is only going to rocket further up from here.  Think back to famous past bubbles, whether it be dotcoms, housing, or bitcoin's bubble in 2011.

Where is the peak in the current bubble?  Who knows.  Almost no one can predict it in the future and everyone always predicts it when looking back after it has burst.

I must say that the current situation is very differrent then the 2011 (really emty bubbel) this new "rally" has an more solid btc economie behind it as u know we are ten steps further then in 2011..  Wink
233  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin's first major deflation event, and its consequences on: February 17, 2013, 11:55:42 AM
First let me say that I didnt read all of the post, but that I agree with arepo, in fact I have really enjoyed most of his post. The problem that he is talking about relates first and foremost to price stability. I can tell from the responses that I did read that we don't have a lot of retail business owners commenting here. This price spike has pushed me right out of the market and has friends saying that they won't use it. I have a couple friends that were looking at buying and have said no way. "I feel like I am missing out on making a lot of money, but I just cant take that kind of risk" I would not even consider taking BTC as payment for my goods at this time. I simply can not take payments in a currency that is so volatile. This is the heart of the matter. If people are holding coins off the market it pushes up price and distorts the signals.  The only way for BTC to work is if it is used as money not a commodity. I find no reason what so ever to compare the two. BTC is 1's and 0's in the cloud with no intrinsic value what so ever.

Then could you please explain to me what the intrinsic value of a rembrandt painting is because its worth $30millon dollar..Huh That is only some paint on some paper isn't it??
234  Economy / Speculation / Re: why I sold my bitcoins.... on: February 17, 2013, 08:06:19 AM
Everybody should know what he thinks is the right moment to say " Btc is overpriced" maybe at this moment it is, but in the longrun you will be glad you still own a few of the btc and also wake up thinking america is the only place on earth (amazon) if only 1% of the rest of the world gets to know btc $27,- is nothing, nothing at all..!! Smiley
235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why the high price on: February 15, 2013, 11:46:14 AM
Hi guys

Just wanted to see why the price is justified with Bitcoin? Because its a very high price right now, $27.00

Bitcoin at the end of the day has no intrinsic value. Its not a tangible thing like gold. Its just some bits in a computer. If one day everyone decided that it was a total waste of time and had no value, the value of it would go to $0 and everyone who bought the coins would loose their money.

High price you say..??!!

If you take an needle and point it at your house on a world map, then u can see how small minded you(we) are...now lets take BTC and put it on the worldmap.. Still very small but if Btc gets worldwide adoption ( whitch is happening as we speak) it will work like an lever system it will takeoff like a rocket ...meaning to say that in four year from now you will look back and see what i meant...$27,- is nothing.. If you have the guts u can still make money buying btc as we speak.. ,,, !!! Or miss the boat,,, Cheesy Cheesy Wink It´s small minded to think $27,- is much...

1gr of gold is something like $45,-  1 fucking GRAM and there is plenty of gold but not plenty of BTC
