101  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Visa/MasterCard supported Bitcoin or crypto on: March 18, 2019, 07:06:40 PM
Remember also, what you are asking is like asking "When will blockbuster video support Netflix?"
Bitcoin is the greatest threat credit cards have ever faced. It is faster, cheaper, and far more secure than a credit card. MasterCard and Visa are not going to help you destroy their business model. You do not need a credit card if you know how to use bitcoin. It can be done, I cut up my cards in 2012 and have not looked back.
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Finally setting up a full node on: March 11, 2019, 07:03:29 PM
I just rebuilt my Linux node machine recently. A full DL of the blockchain took a full week.  Fortunately storage is so cheep that I was able to go with a 3 Terabyte HD. That should hold me for a few years. I like having a dedicated machine like this. I usually shop on a different computer and spend from my node for additional privacy.

Thanks for contributing to the network's strength and resilience!
103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 UPDATE: Cache found!!!!!! on: March 06, 2019, 08:32:21 PM
Good ideas guys! (or girls, whatever)

I may indeed incorporate some of those suggestions. I think later this year the game will take place in North America then South America next year. My goal is to have offered bitcoin on every continent. Then maybe oceans, space, who knows?

104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 UPDATE: Cache found!!!!!! on: March 04, 2019, 08:09:02 PM
Why not include a URL link with the box that points to this kind of thread to incentivize the person to share his or her story. You can also tell them that you will double the prize, if they share their story on this forum. <Put something in the paper work that they must mention to claim the prize.>

I just want to congratulate and thank you for doing this for Bitcoin adoption and I would encourage more people to do this or to crowdfund similar projects like this. <OP should give us a Bitcoin address to send donations to for the next GEOCACHE prize, he should not have to fund this on his own>  Roll Eyes

Thanks for your kind post and suggestions. I have done some of those things already so that I will know if the person claiming to have found the cache actually has. I also toyed with the idea of having people fund the account in some kind of crowdfunding way. However I thought this would raise some red flags, and that I might be accused of scamming. If I am the only one giving away money then nobody can say this is some kind of elaborate con. I do post a public address whenever I place a cache and I can't stop people from sending money to it. But handling and accounting for other peoples money is not something I want to get into.

My next one may be a very different model as I am experimenting with multiple copies of the same private key. This would mean more caches, but a tighter race to be the first to find and block out the other participants.

105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 UPDATE: Cache found!!!!!! on: March 02, 2019, 05:07:03 AM
I'm pretty sure that whoever found the cache will not share his story for privacy reasons.
Or by "other" means:

Cropped image from post#2:

I got a hunch that it was never found but the fund was moved because the private key is (barely) visible in the 2nd post's image (It is surprisingly high resolution in full size).
By looking at the original image, anyone (with 20/20 vision) can guess the possible characters of the private key (just like the "5" first character).
It will take time using manual trial and error and it does took over a year before the fund was spent.

I did a double take when I read your post, lol. But it is the public key that you see in the photo. The private key is folded inside. If I had screwed up and exposed the key then more power to the winner. I like a contest with few rules and if the finder of the cache wants to remain anonymous then that's okay also.
106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 UPDATE: Cache found!!!!!! on: March 02, 2019, 02:23:21 AM
did someone really find this?   this is very exciting, congratulations to her. how did they find it  privatekey in africa? and not in deformed  It's a good story coming out of this contest Smiley  I hope 1 btc winner will write here.
Yes. They absolutely must have. Whoever it is must know that they can get another reward for telling me what happened. I really hope they do.

Wow awesome ... really curious to hear the story of the person who found the case. Hope they will hit you up.

Again congrats for what you did RodeoX

Thanks for your supportive post! It is a little less dramatic to not know exactly what happened. The offer of bitcoin for the story will still stand. I can verify if it is the real finder or not because of some things in the cache that I have never revealed.

...
I'll be in Denver looking at the Cannabis industry in coming weeks. When I get back I guess I'll start thinking about a new location, somewhere on this beautiful wet rock in space.
Thanks for keeping this 'game' alive, RodeoX Smiley
But, please don't put the cache on a desert island somewhere in the middle of the ocean, if possible Smiley

Glad you enjoyed it!
But I am so evil that it even occurred to me to put it UNDER the ocean somewhere.  Grin
I'll post here when I have a new location.
107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GEOCACHE AFRICA 2018 UPDATE: Cache found!!!!!! on: February 27, 2019, 08:49:08 PM
Hi CerealKing. Sorry for the delay, I have been traveling again. In fact I was going to claw back the BTC in Africa and start again with a cache in the rocky mountains. When I went to scan the private key I found the cache empty.  i have not been contacted by anyone and so I have no idea who has it. But whoever it is they have figured out how to move it to a new address.

Congratulations to whoever found it. They must have physically found the box to use the private key.  The only other copy was in a bank vault. I really hope the finder contacts me. I'm sure it would be a good story.

108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to choose a wallet? on: January 16, 2019, 08:37:05 PM
Wallets are not all the same and have huge differences in security. Personally I would use only a FULL NODE like core for any large amount. If we are talking about $100, then I might use a phone wallet. A phone wallet has much higher risks but the convenience of it is worth the risk for me. Basically I don't put more bitcoin on my phone than the value of the phone.

A full node running on a Linux machine is good enough security to hold millions of dollars. Consider setting up a Linux computer. Linux is free and far better than windows.

Nothing about bitcoin changes when the price changes. That's what I look at.
111  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bull Run or Dead Cat Bouncing ? on: December 21, 2018, 08:18:10 PM
A "dead cat ounce" can only be determined after a STOCK has collapsed to zero.  Cats don't bounce back to life. It is a dip or correction or fall, but not a dead cat bounce.

That's not the conventional definition. A "dead cat bounce" just means a temporary recovery before a downtrend continues. I'm not sure what you call a stock that's collapsed to zero. The closest thing I can think of is a speculative bubble asset, like with tulip mania. "Dead cat bounce" doesn't imply that though.

Hmm. That's not how I learned it as a stock trader. The idea was that a stock had become valueless for whatever reason. It was dead and the business was likely to become insolvent. However as the price fell to almost nothing it suddenly received new buying interest because it was so cheap that it was now a good long-shot bet. This inflow of cash caused the already dead cat to go up a bit before a final collapse.
A lot of people confuse stock trading with bitcoin trading. But these are very different assets. Stocks NEED to make money. The money keeps a business going and it will totally fail without capitol. Bitcoin does not need your money and works fine if the price is $0.01

Bitcoin user unaffected.

Hey that reminds me, I'll be in Seattle this weekend. Does anyone know of a dispensary there that takes bitcoin?

115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin losing value is nothing surprising, will continue on: December 20, 2018, 08:02:47 PM
Bitcoins losing meaning and value is natural, its not capable to manage the worlds economy, you freaks dont understand that because you dont want to face ... was a ridiculous idea in the first place, that drove the ponzi scheme hype and was nothing but a naive illusion, wich you used to collect followers. ...

So how much did you lose on alt-coins?  Roll Eyes

117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: REASON FOR MARKET RECOVERY on: December 19, 2018, 03:11:28 PM
Now, I know many analysis will soon be out trying to credit the sudden market recovering to some sort of events and programs. In my own opinion, I feel any of these reasons could be the case of the capitalization in the market leading to some gain:
1. It's possible some whales or even the wall street ...   Sad

2. It's possible the enemies of Crypto...  Sad

3. Maybe there is a major event ...  Sad

4. This can't just be normal traders doing their normal trading ...

120  Economy / Economics / Re: Stocks Just Suffered Their Worst Loss in Months on: December 17, 2018, 08:19:54 PM
Man the NYSE is a bloodbath right now. I am losing almost everywhere. Even my A-list stocks like Amazon, and Alphabet(google) are hurting. I'm resorting to the bond market for any profits. I think we are about to see a collapse in stocks.

Get your buys ready!
