441  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: can i use bitcoin core as an offline (cold) wallet on: February 03, 2015, 03:50:25 PM
can i use bitcoin core as an offline (cold) wallet?

what i want to do is, i want to install bitcoin-QT on an offline pc and just use it to create an address and send my bitcoin there.
can i do this without need of blockchain?

also what should i do (later) if someday i want to spend these bitcoins? how can i send them without having to go online and download blockchain OR exporting private keys

I will suggest you to look into Multibit or Electrum, but if you want to use Bitcoin core only then you can follow below process :
1. Create offline walllet, generate address, encrypt it with strong passphrase. Note down your bitcoin address.
2. Store passphrase in somewhere else where you can recover it. If you lose passphrase you will loose your coins.
3. Take backup of encrypted wallet and store 2-3 copies somewhere. Dont store passphrase and wallet backup together.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zebpay.Application

We will appreciate your feedback.

Agreed. India does have potential but there are lot of hurdles when you do business in India in Bitcoin, but I guess 75 milion backing can solve lot of those issues Smiley

446  Local / India / Re: A ransomware that demands 8 Bitcoins hits Indian sub-continent on: February 03, 2015, 03:11:00 PM
When buysellbitco.in was actively trading, I had one customer from Mumbai who wanted to purchase some bitcoins ( I guess it was 2 bitcoin ). Aged person ( around 50+ ) had his files locked by some ransomware ( i guess cryptolocker or something on that lines ).

So people do get such issues.

Only solution is have a dropbox backup without local sync.

I tried their app. It is faulty.
Scanned in a QR code to send btc to another wallet, and guess what - the app crashed (several times) the btc disappeared and
the app left absolutely no log of any transaction. dont use it, im concerned that transactions are off blockchain.

Although i did email support - no one has bothered to reply. i have simply deleted the app and if asked i cannot recommend this app yet.

Hi Yalla

Apologies for any inconvenience. Can you please send me your registered mobile number on mahin@zebpay.com and I will look into it immediately.

Thanks for your support and patience.

451  Local / India / Re: India's Best Bitcoin Exchange goes Live with Deposits & Withdrawals! on: January 28, 2015, 06:45:09 AM
Still no volume in exchange and you are saying it's best exchange.

It's not UI who make exchange best. It's depends of so many factors. I agree Coinsecure has best UI in Indian exchange and worst UI has BTCXIndia exchange. It's not owner, Partner or employee who decide it's best or not. It's user who decide after using coinsecure services it's best or not. So I think first edit your topic atleast till coinsecure has some volume. If I want to sell or buy 1 Bitcoin I can't do that.

Then what is the benefit of best UI. I know it's new, but what I know mostly exchange in begining use market maker who fulfill order for buy and sell for other user. So exchange will get volume.

So try to find some market maker. BTW you have Pankaj in your team he can easily play that role. Without Market maker I am guarantee you. Coinsecure never will have volume even you promote till any extend. Because market maker play big role specially first 6 months to 1 year. without them serviving in competitive market never easy.

So better till that Coinsecure will have volume and good customer service. Edit you title.

It's like apne muh miya mitthu.

While I surely agree with liquidity part, I think CoinSecure can go a long way. There is nothing wrong in positioning your product on some baseline. Coinsecure chose to be Best exchange in India ( When I used to run buysellbitco.in I chose to India's first and most trusted ), its up to them to live the mission statement and up to users to decide if they fulfilled or not.

Any exchange in India will be able to see any reasonable volume only after 3 months. In fact this is good for CoinSecure as they are making their product solid with few user's feedback.

A liquid exchange ( not OTC like buysellbitco.in, unocoin ) is must for thriving bitcoin economy in any country. I see coinsecure as promising step there.

On a side note CoinSecure must start a promotion now for market makers Smiley

Sorry to say but really dont lke the app, first it is tooooo slooooooow. Setup itself takes around 5mins on 8Mbps wifi. Then there is no option to store bitcoin address, maybe by design so that it is limited to users of app.
Plus it does not work. I tried sending bitcoin to a bitcoin address and after pressing send it keeps loading for some time and then nothing happens,  if i retry it says unsufficient balance but the previous transaction is not shown in the app, neither has any bitcoins been received in the bitcoin address to which i tried to send.

I dont think anyone should risk their bitcoins by using this wallet.

- first it is tooooo slooooooow
First of all please accept my apologies on the slow experience. We got hundreds of customers trying our app now, and frankly speaking it is my failure to see the infrastructure requirements for the same. The rush of new customers has put tremendous load on our servers and we had to upgrade our infrastructure two times now. We are learning and let me ensure you we are working very hard to resolve the issues. We should have app more responsive in coming days.

-  there is no option to store bitcoin address
You can add bitcoin address to send bitcoins to someone by going to send -> click on bitcoin icon ( zebian, phonebook contacts, bitcoin ), click + icon with Bitcoin symbol. You will get add new bitcoin address screen where you can scan QR code or paste bitcoin address. Give it a lable and click done icon. ( That process is slow at the moment like all operations in the app, but gradually once we move our infrastructure you should see better response time. )

- I tried sending bitcoin to a bitcoin address and after pressing send it keeps loading for some time and then nothing happens,  if i retry it says unsufficient balance but the previous transaction is not shown in the app, neither has any bitcoins been received in the bitcoin address to which i tried to send.

Can you please send your registered mobilenumber on supprt@zebpay.com and I will look into it personally. Please mention bitcointalk forum thread in the support.

We want to win you as our customer and we are working very hard on this. We welcome your criticism/feedback/suggestions and see it as a way to improve ourselves. Thanks for all your support and patience !!!

Really awesome! it seems to be a great wallet , i just seem to have a problem , whenever i send a invite ,it says OOPS Something went wrong and if i re-try it shows message sent! but the person never receives it :/

Oops screen must be an issue inside app. We do have logs of issues reported and we will look into it gradually. At the moment all of our efforts are concentrated on unexpected and awesome response we received.

Few things to check :
1. If user is Indian and he is on DND he will not receive invite SMS. He can register though and will receive verification sms. If your invite is registered with us, you will get 1$ referral bonus even if he has not received invite SMS.

2. If user is already in Zebpay he is not eligible for invite.

3. Always first person who invited a number gets refferal bonus in case a number is invited by more than one person.

Please accept my apologies in case it has not worked as per your expectation. If you face any issues please send your request to support@zebpay.com and we will look into it.

Some questions we received:
1) Why are you storing private keys, don't you think bitcoin private keys must be under user's control?
A) We completely agree with that. If you don’t own private keys of your bitcoin, you don’t own bitcoins. Most of your bitcoins must reside in offline paper wallet securely under your control. We suggest a Multi Sig wallet as the best option to do that. But honestly, let’s look at the statement again and try to explain words like private key, offline paper wallet and Multi Sig. These terms will be much easier for people to understand once they start using bitcoin and have spend them for a couple of months. We want the average Joe to use bitcoins without worrying about the brilliant but complicated tech concepts.

Also we are focused on becoming a spend wallet. We never recommend people to store all their bitcoins in our wallet. In fact, at the moment if your wallet balance is greater than $1,000,  the display will turn red to indicate that you are storing too many bitcoins.

2) Why are you not having a web wallet?
A) At Zebpay, we are focused on becoming the simplest way to spend your bitcoins and we are focused on doing that through your mobile phone. Hence, we do not have any plans for having a web wallet.

3) Why do you have a referral program?
A) Zebpay is useful when your contacts are also on Zepay so you can easily transact with them. The referral program is so that our initial users have an incentive to invite their contacts.

4) Why do you need so many permissions on Android?
A) Zebpay works exactly like instant messaging apps like Whatsapp. We need the permissions so that most of the things are done automatically like contact sync and SMS verification.

5) Can you send bitcoins to users who have not yet installed Zebpay?
A) Yes, you can send bitcoins to any bitcoin address. You can also send bitcoins to any mobile number in your contact book. If they are not on Zebpay, they will get an SMS to download the app. They will get the bitcoins on installation. If they don’t install Zebpay within 2 days, your account will be credited back with the bitcoins you had sent.

Pay them back, if you can. If you can not, let them know this, but this may be start of bitter relation between you and company.
Everyone makes mistakes, it may be genuine code bug or manual error. If they are polite with their request you should pay them back.

But again, its all between you and Uno.
