101  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] TF2 idling script, 5 USD in BTC on: May 28, 2013, 12:21:04 AM

a) "Sorry! This thread is hidden from the public gaze!"

b) I refer you to the F.A.Q above:

I already have another idling script. Why would I bother buying your script?
You might not need it after all then! As long as your your current script automates everything (including logins) and backs up the current state of your account idling status. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk details about the differences.

If the script in question at facepunch is the one I think it is, I stumbled onto it when first starting an idling operation. The script I've written now was a direct response to it, since the script I found had several limitations.

- Windows-only, since it makes use of .bat files. TF2 runs on mac and linux boxes as well.
- Requires you to switch between each account manually. Huge no-no when trying to automate things.
- No "logging" knowledge. So if something goes wrong, you have no data on how long the script has been running for when you start it again.

Perhaps you're OK with the above and are willing to live with it since the tutorial is free. I was not, so I wrote my own. I'm sure other users on this forum also are not and it might be worth their 5 bucks for something better.
102  Economy / Digital goods / [WTS] TF2 idling script, 5 USD in BTC on: May 26, 2013, 06:28:44 AM
As the title says, I've written a small script that completely automates the process of TF2 idling. This will work with any number of accounts and any number of Sandboxie windows; I have tested in across a variety of scenarios across the last few weeks.

Additionally, it will record how long each account has been idling. That way, in the event of a catastrophic failure (ie: power loss, internet loss, keyboard attacked by cat, data center catches on fire, etc) there will be a last saved checkpoint without any guesswork necessary.

There are more features on this, but I'm hesitant to reveal them here since this is not a particularly difficult script to replicate for a halfway-decent programmer...and I'd hate to lose out on a small financial opportunity Smiley

Cost: $5 USD in Bitcoins, which is at current MTGox exchange rates.

What you get:
- The script described above
- A README on how to use it
- A copy of the WTFPL
- All the help, technical support, advice, and updated versions of this script - if any - from yours truly.

F.A.Q

Why are you selling this instead of using it yourself?
I am already using this script myself Smiley However, paying for premium accounts isn't cheap. Especially on a large scale. The TF2 economy is large enough to support a few more idlers than just me and this is a way for me to get a few extra accounts up to premium status on the side.

I idle manually and it works for me. Why would I bother buying your script?
Try idling 200 accounts manually at let me know if it "works for you" Wink

Why only $5?
It's enough for me to get an extra premium account. It's also low-cost for any other idlers to jump on this opportunity.

What's to stop me from selling this script myself as soon as I get it? Or giving it away it away for free?
Nothing in particular. Just your own honesty, and the fact that you'll be handing something away for free that you purchased with money. I'll also be putting my contact info and donation addresses in the README and script itself to hopefully avoid anything like this.

Will you accept any other cryptocurrencies?
I will accept the equivalent in DVC or LTC. That's it. None of these strange, new altchains that have been popping up like weeds over the last few weeks.

Thanks for reading all that!

Seconded  Cool

Are front row tickets sold out?

Nope, saved you a seat. Just in time for the outright "fag" comments too.

If nothing else, I do like the idea of a coin which provides problems with value behind them while hashing, as opposed to the busywork currently handed out by all the existing chains...

Maybe tie it in to SETI@Home or something, if a pure AI is too infeasible.

There's enough random coins on vircurex already, IMO.
108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How "popular" is your favorite Altcoin? Find out here! on: May 24, 2013, 05:03:49 PM
WDC is popular but what does it help? Its price is still in the toilet.

This script is merely here to track popularity and scam accusations, not price. However, it is interesting to see so many WDC threads despite its drop in price.

Perhaps they're all threads complaining about the loss of WDC value? Smiley
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How "popular" is your favorite Altcoin? Find out here! on: May 24, 2013, 04:45:33 PM
Script updated during train ride home yesterday (and coffeebreak at work today). Following enhancements made:

- Correlate the "scam_index" with the names of altchains to gather data on which coins are considered scams.
Fully done.

- Add additional weight to the counts based on the number of pages in each thread and the thread's position on the board (more visible thread position and more pages in thread == higher popularity weight).
Done, but rather than calculating a "weight" from number of replies and views the script simply prints them out instead. I think this is a more fair indicator, and does not require a fancy algorithm to calculate weight.

- Keep track of usernames as well to find who the main cheerleaders for each coin are.
Somewhat done. Can keep track of usernames and have usernames for users who call coins scams. However, have not yet implemented keeping track of usernames for each coin's cheerleaders.

Also will update 1st post with new output. However, the output of the script is starting to look pretty nasty with all this additional data...so there's a new task for my next train ride home.

Next few tasks:
- Write a prettyprinter to make output more self-explanatory and friendly

- Properly display the cheerleaders for each coin

- Enable sorting by number of replies and views, in addition to number of threads for "popularity" output.

- (Long Term) Write a GUI and allow the output results to be sorted in real-time.

i have no comment, but i will say this. long live bacon. bacon is good. consider this.
...
something iwll eventually replace bitcoin. lays of economics. where theres a market there will always be a product.

Bacon will replace Bitcoin. Obviously. HAIL BACON!

In all seriousness: Little good seems to come from the heavily-premined (or instamined) altchains. Since there are so many alternatives now compared to when Bitcoin first launched, miners can easily just pick a different coin to mine instead...early controversy can (and does) kill altchains early on.

Suggestion - compile a top 10 list of regulars who use the word scam the most.

I like it; sounds like a natural extension after keeping track of usernames. Added to first post so I don't forget!
112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [PISSING CONTEST] How "popular" is your favorite Altcoin? Find out here! on: May 23, 2013, 05:28:05 PM
While bored on a train ride home the other day, I threw a quick Python script together that tracks how many times each altchain appears in the top N pages on this subforum for funsies and shiggles. This number N is passed in as a command line argument, to try and keep things modular. Additionally, the script counts the number of times that the word "scam" appears in thread titles as a very basic metric to track FUD on this board.

Source code at https://www.dropbox.com/s/8g2ye2ft3xvj5d6/track_altchain_hype.py

I use Python 2.7.3 on my machine. You will also need the BeautifulSoup library, but it has easy_install support so that shouldn't be an issue.

Example run from 9:30 am PST today:

Output for "popularity results" is in the format of [number of threads, number of replies, number of views]

Output for "scam results" is in the format of [number of threads, users who started the threads (if applicable)]

Things I'm planning to improve on:

- Correlate the "scam_index" with the names of altchains to gather data on which coins are considered scams.

- Add additional weight to the counts based on the number of pages in each thread and the thread's position on the board (more visible thread position and more pages in thread == higher popularity weight).

- Keep track of usernames as well to find who the main cheerleaders for each coin are. (Mostly complete, just need to display them properly)

- Write a prettyprinter to make output more self-explanatory and friendly

- Enable sorting by number of replies and views, in addition to number of threads for "popularity" output.

- (Long Term) Write a GUI and allow the output results to be sorted in real-time.

Suggestions I like:

Again, this is purely for shits and giggles; I'm not trying to make a quick buck or bash any particular coin or anything here...just display some data that I think is interesting. Questions/comments/constructive feedback/suggestions/rude remarks welcome (but maybe not so much on the rude remarks).

... So no worries,  I'm good to go with my old, 1BroUgeCemQvWeYBekpFyEFGZVqrXnrtQ9, wallet number.  Thanks.
I've just sent a test (10 dvc) to that address. Can you let us know if you do/don't get it on your machine.

There it is!  I really appreciate it, man.

I'm sending 30k your way. Not a ton, but hopefully enough to make this situation less painful. Cheers.

It was the best as long as the mining was quick and the price was high.

Now, it's on to the next Flavor-of-the-monthCoin. Good thing there's 31 more varieties to pick from.

116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Time to BUY DEVCOINS on: May 22, 2013, 05:29:40 PM
Those are the projects which will be 'viable' at given market caps, not the actual bounties for those projects. At least that's how I understood it.

My mistake for misreading it then.

Final final question: Once someone creates one of the bounty projects and/or opensource'd software, I assume that they should post in the Devcoin thread about it in order to discuss the details of bounties and funding and whatnot?

Other than "It's faster than LTC!!!" does this coin actually bring any interesting and worthwhile changes to the table? If not, I see no reason it should be worth any more than any other copy-and-paste altchain.

Which interesting and worthwhile change did LTC bring to the table?

I'm hardly here to defend LTC, merely to state that there's little separating WDC from the Sea Of Crapcoins.

With that said: Scrypt was - and still is - pretty significant.
118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Time to BUY DEVCOINS on: May 22, 2013, 03:21:50 PM
There are limits on the bounties based upon time required to create the product or software or write the articles even on the site. You can look up bounties on the devcoin thread or devtome.com.

Alright, if there are formal requirements I guess my point is moot. Where specifically on devtome can I find them?

I mine 100 coins, and give 90 coins to someone else? retarded!

Think about it this way. You mine Bitcoin, and you get some Devcoin for extra. No strings attached. They're merge-mined, after all.

Now consider it from the standpoint of a content creator rather than a miner (not that these are mutually exclusive categories, of course). As a content creator, you build or write or produce something and you are PAID for it in time. That's a jaw-dropping improvement over slaving away for no pay whatsoever for something.

TL;DR: Miners win since you mine Bitcoin and get some extra Devcoin. Creators win since they get paid bounties for their efforts. If you both mine and create content, you win even bigger. The coin basically supports its own infrastructure in this manner.
