121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Time to BUY DEVCOINS on: May 22, 2013, 04:56:45 AM
Here is a small taste of the bounties offered, the full list can be found here: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty

Capitalization 100,000 USD

Software
Simple Extension

Question about all the "software" categories. Who defines what is a "simple extension" versus a "big application modification"? And what software is eligible for these bounties? I'm a bad DVC user who never looked closely at this page before  Lips sealed

EVERYONE is eligible I think, but registering at Devtome would be a good idea so they have your wallet. You just have to let them know you did the bounty on the Devcoin thread.

No, my question isn't who is eligible, but what. Like if I upload a terrible "Hello World" program am I suddenly eligible for a $100,000 USD bounty? The description is extremely vague for almost all of the "software" bounties...

Quite a drop in share value since last round Undecided

Huzzah for more contributors though, which is very cool to see.
124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WorldCoin is a SCAM -- Pre MINED to the EXTREME ** Virus Detected in Client on: May 21, 2013, 03:57:58 AM
Watch out folks, the WDC client does in fact steal all your underpants and left socks

You have been warned Grin

Good thing I don't wear either...

Cool

All these scam accusations around the flood of new altchains. They amuse the Barnacle.

126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: GLDCoin - A Heavily premined coin, does it make sense to mine it??? on: May 20, 2013, 10:30:54 PM
I don't care about how heavily premined or that it was posted in newbie section. The community is very giving. I have gotten more gld than any other coin. WDC from what I have been told cannot be sustained and is susceptible to degeneration due to its ultra fast confirm time. Too fast some say.

PROTIP: If you have 10,000,000 coins and each one is worth nothing, your 10 million coins are still worth nothing. It doesn't matter how many coins you have...what's important is what they are worth.

Just my 2 satoshis.
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: please tell me why wdc is a success? on: May 20, 2013, 09:39:06 PM
WDC is "big" right now for the same reason BTE and CHN got "big" despite being carbon copies of existing chains, JKC and FTC2 (or "firecoin" now, apparently) got "big" despite being declared jokes, and BTB got "big" despite the obvious premine-that-wasn't-really-a-premine-but-was-still-effectively-a-premine scandal.

Give it a week or two. It'll either keep up strong as it is, or the shills will give up and it'll crash and burn like so many altchains before it.
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DVC coins on: May 20, 2013, 08:08:49 PM
DVC == Devcoin, so there's no need to call it DVC Coins. Just fyi Wink

Anyways. I'm a totally biased opinion since I write for devtome, but I think DVC is fantastic because they heavily reward people who actually make things. So it encourages good infrastructure for the currency. Also, since it's merge-mined with BTC, there's no competition with the most visible cryptocurrency available.
129  Economy / Services / Re: What business do you guys recommend? on: May 20, 2013, 06:31:41 PM
You miss the point, programming is done uniquely by each and every one of us. There's basically no limitations.
Oh yeah, there are people who offer the same old boring stuff, eg. make me a Bitcoin converter.
I'm talking about something unique, something different, otherwise there is no point.
Although, if you want to run this sort of business, you need to learn for a long time, it does eventually pay off.

The point? The point is that there are a ton of programmers and "programmers" offering their services. Basic supply and demand states that OP should try and start something that isn't a programmer offering their services, since there's already a huge supply on that front.

Unless, of course, there's some kind of creative angle to be had by applying programming skills.
130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TestCoin, CoinCoin & JokeCoin on: May 20, 2013, 06:27:18 PM
A project under the name "JokeCoin" is already something I've been fiddling around with and plan to release something relatively soon. The source code is done as of yesterday, and I just need to start a genesis block and make an announcement.

It's rather different from your idea though. But I felt that needed to be mentioned.

What is the idea behind your coin?

Take 10 minutes and read the blog...everything is outlined there and I'd hate to repeat myself unnecessarily...

I just did and it's a bunch of stuff about porn coins, boob coins and quickies.

If you scrolled down or clicked on the post entitled "The Purpose of this Blog", all would have been made clear. TL;DR: Establish a bunch of altcoin chains poking fun at other cryptocoins.

Unfortunately, since life's thrown a few curveballs my way, I haven't had the time to update anything on this project for almost a month Sad

133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: In other News BTC is taking off on: May 18, 2013, 12:33:16 AM
You would be correct EXCEPT WDC is definitely the most profitable at the moment.

At the moment based on hyped-up trades on the subforum here? Perhaps.

Will it continue this momentum for longer than a week? I highly doubt it.
134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Hazard's altcoin creation service. Want your own coin, but cant code? on: May 17, 2013, 10:28:45 PM
damn this is the smartest idea ever, lets have more shit coins popping up

Actually, I think the idea has merit. Once there is so much dross that all the copy/paste coins are flooded out for good, only useful altchains will remain and be able to rise above the sea of shit.
135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ★★Official SAFE trading thread. SCAMMERS/RULES/ESCROW/TRUSTED USERS LISTS★★ on: May 17, 2013, 10:26:06 PM
There's a small escrow list in my sig, when I was (largely unsuccessfully) trying to consolidate a master list of escrow agents for altchains. Care to throw it into the first post? Maybe this will help re-ignite interest in it.
136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ***Anyone interested in developing new altcoin?*** on: May 17, 2013, 09:05:16 PM
Yes, please make like 10 new altchains. There aren't enough here already!
137  Economy / Services / Re: What business do you guys recommend? on: May 17, 2013, 07:21:07 PM
But to the OP, maybe web design/ programming very profitable.

There's already dozens of "programmers" offering their services here.

IMO, sell something that no one else is selling. Like custom-made glasswork. Or 3D printer time. Be creative.
138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Renaming of the project Tencoin. on: May 16, 2013, 11:50:21 PM
I, for one, am sick of altchains with the prefix "coin" thrown on the end.

I hereby suggest "Common CryptoCurrency of the People", or CCCP for short, for this currency.

140  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tertiary/Higher Education on: May 16, 2013, 02:12:15 AM
Barnacle_Ed, one problem with that: University A will be making much higher profits, and thus will have a much bigger marketing fund, which it will use to convince Joe and Jane that they need to go to their university and buy their degrees. Current example of such travesty are Phoenix and Streyer universities.

That's a good point about this unfortunate trend. Perhaps it will be tougher to convince people otherwise than I first anticipated, but I still believe it will be a shorter-term resolution than full blown education reform. While there is a dire need for reform, it will definitely take some time and there will need to be an interim solution IMO.
