Trump should do a lot of things but he'd never do this. I believe he said he'd never pardon him -- or maybe that was Chelsea Manning. Can he even pardon non-us citizens? I doubt Trump was referring to Manning seeing as her sentence was already commuted by Obama in Jan 2017 The extradition process will likely be long and drawn out, but unless someone significant steps in with serious political power they'll probably ship him off to the US eventually. The UK is too pally-pally with the US for them not to. Maybe Assange will get bail and go walk about, though (but I doubt it).
IIRC Assange already missed a bail hearing in the UK, regardless of that fact, the UK will never give him bail because he is the definition of a flight risk! The case against Assange is flimsy as fuck, the Obama administration had all of this same information and they decided NOT to prosecute Assange (they worried they couldn't make such a flimsy case stick). The hard liners currently in charge of the DOJ have a different opinion. The fact that the statute of limitations was 4 days from expiring for the indicted crime is not coincidental. This was/is their last shot at getting Assange for the 2010 "incident". As I mentioned before a superseding indictment adding crimes is always a possibility but that would require new evidence to be presented to back up that indictment. There is another level to this as yet widely unreported. According to UK law when a person is extradited ALL charges must be present at the time of extradition, this could include sealed indictments (which we would not be privy too). Basically what the UK law means is that you can't extradite someone for one crime and then PILE on a whole lot of other shit once you get them home. Its funny how many people in the forum have no idea how complicated this case is going to be, it is by far anything but a slam dunk for the US DOJ. |

It's not up to the DOJ, it's up to the SDNY. AMI's non prosecution agreement is for campaign finance violation (and ANYTHING else they admitted to during their cooperation with SDNY). The SDNY is already reportedly looking into the matter with Bezo's and it is reasonable to surmise if they are able to prove a crime after the agreement took place they will throw the book at AMI (and Mr. Pecker possibly personally). All of this makes the sale price of the Enquirer plummet, the hedge fund owner is trying to get anything they can for it at this point, if the SDNY goes balls deep into AMI the Enquirer could be worth next to nothing in a few months! |

Assange will have an extradition hearing in the UK, it isn't for sure he will even get to the US.
The unsealed indictment has a single count in it. The government alleges Assange was an active participant in stealing classified material from the US government (with Manning in 2010). A possible superseding indictment is always possible.
According to US law there is a criminal difference between a publisher who releases material obtained passively vs a publisher who releases material they broke the law to obtain. IOW Assange is not being charged for releasing the classified material but for his or his organizations active involvement in stealing classified information from the US government (which is a crime).
Sounds like a tough case to prosecute, but who knows we have so little of the facts and evidence at this point it might be a slam dunk with some new info we didn't know.

I am no expert, but I don’t think it is best to be bullying a forum member in a meta thread complaining about rules allegedly being broken. It is probably not appropriate at all for a moderator to be doing the same at all all in any public thread.
If you don’t want to deal with his rants, your choice are to ignore him (including not publicly talking about him), or put up with the rants. If you want to chastise him, you should expect a response.
Read your own post and feel free to ignore me asshole! I am also a user of this forum and to my knowledge being staff does not preclude me from participating in any discussion I feel like commenting on. If it is I missed that memo.
