241  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / ELI5 - Budget Rig on: March 21, 2013, 02:10:12 AM
I am interested in building a budget rig, but am not at all sure where to start. I will probably just start with LTC since there is less competition there, but I still need to know the bascis and how to get the most hash for my buck. It is also important to know that I have to have a case, and I am worried about temps.

Anyways, I assume I will want to just install Ubuntu. So, what CPU should I go for? How much RAM should I have? Can I use different cards on the same system? Im doing research and looking things up as well, but thought I should at least start a topic and hopefully get some advice from those who have been there, and done that.
242  Economy / Services / Re: openCart Expert Needed on: March 20, 2013, 11:38:23 PM
Yes, I plan on selling the codes. No, there will never be any PayPal involved.
To start I am planning on using Google Checkout / Wallet and BitPay. Eventually I also want to add Stripe, Dwolla (depending), and Moneybookers / Skrill.

Yes, I want all code sales to be automated and protected. Though I am sure I have other issues to worry about if someone gains access to my database, having them secured will make me feel better.

I am currently doing this at https://www.lgcards.com/bitcoin
243  Economy / Services / openCart Expert Needed on: March 20, 2013, 11:24:23 PM
I am not totally set on hiring out, but am very highly considering it. I need to:

Store codes securely so that they can be decrypted later, most likely with salt.
As IPNs are sent, take the item / quantity, decrypt, and attach to order confirmation email. The decrypted codes also need to be stored in a way that the customer will be able to view them later through order history or some other add on.
Obviously, those codes need to be marked used so they cannot be sent twice.
And once codes are successfully applied to an order, the order needs to be changed from pending to completed.

I think that is about the basics of it. If you have a portfolio or examples that could be applicable to this, I would love to see them. I am willing to escrow. Feel free to post or PM.

EDIT: A more complicated feature that I forgot to add above, is the ability to disable certain checkout options when certain items are added to the cart. e.g., if an iTunes card is added, Google Checkout will need to be disabled.

I feel like this could be an attempt to regulate gold farmers (e.g., WoW Gold) just as much, if not more than bitcoin. I was going to re-read the posted "new rules", but couldnt find them in a quick skim and am too lazy to look more.

Anyways, is this a possibility? Could some major player in the entertainment industry be pushing and lobbying to get their way again and this just happens to also fit the same bill for bitcoin? If so, how does this apply to game cards? For example, if I buy a League of Legends card from Walmart, that is a specific and exclusive voucher to redeem Riot Points, a virtual currency. Will Walmart have to stop selling these cards?

247  Other / Off-topic / Re: [POLL] Do you watch TV? on: March 15, 2013, 11:48:34 AM
I watch Walking Dead and Spartacus, plus sometimes a show or two on Hulu. And that is the height of my TV bubble in the past 6 years or so.
I did notice though, that what used to be 3-4 commercials is now ~10. And once in awhile a show will only come back for a minute or two before running another commercial block...
248  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Just registered giftco.in on: March 14, 2013, 04:57:37 AM
Sure, shoot me a PM if you like.
249  Economy / Digital goods / Just registered giftco.in on: March 14, 2013, 04:35:44 AM
I think it is a decent domain name, but I also realize it could be better suited for a different business model than what I intended it for. So I will post it here while I continue my search for the "perfect" domain.

251  Economy / Goods / Re: Cow Share on: March 11, 2013, 02:04:41 PM
Never mind my last post. Just sell a deep freeze with the cow, pack it all in there and ship it like that!
252  Economy / Goods / Re: Cow Share on: March 11, 2013, 01:50:09 PM
I think you are onto something, but I dont think a whole cow is it. First off, I imagine there are a lot of people that do not realize just how much beef that actually is. Second, how much is it going to cost to send that much meat around the country? And even without the cost of ice / containers, just the fees for the shipping weight alone would be crazy. And while I am not sure, I would think USDA regulations still apply whether you are selling, trading, or giving away the meat.

Im not sure if I am translating that right or not, but I think your calling me a liberal. If so, I have to admit, that is one hell of a funny way to do it. Seriously!
Im not, in fact I am quite the opposite, but it is still funny.

You are still listing the most corrupt police forces in the US though. When CJ students study police corruption and abuse, they study NOPD and LAPD. NYPD is not often far behind. There are even movies about it, like Serpico.

Do some research then, there's plenty of information available about what happened in New Orleans. The confiscations were door to door. Riots and looting are no justification at all for this behavior. These were orders that should not have been followed, but were and while I'm certainly not saying regular troops would just open fire on a civilian population in a US city because Colonel blahblah told them to, I'm also not convinced those orders would be ignored by all.

BTW militias were the backbone of the Continental army, though the word has now come to be derogatory. Wonder how.

'"Guns will be taken. Only law enforcement will be allowed to have guns,” New Orleans Police Superintendent Eddie Compass declared'
First off, NOPD is historically one of the most corrupt police forces to have ever existed. Second, Im not going to try and pretend like it is not a tactic for the military to round up weapons. Less bullets = less people to shoot at you, less chance for the bad guys to get them, less resistance, and all kinds of other fun things. Im not saying it was right, or that it should have happened, but there is still a pretty big difference between one instance of mass chaos and crime, and just saying hey, were going to take these now. Or, eh I think I will be President for Life / Dictator for Life / whatever for life - we better squish anyone who says otherwise. And I already said there would be those that did follow orders. Im not trying to say that absolutely no one will allow it to happen.

Aside from all that, I need no lesson in militias (past or present). Though, you are probably the same person who complains about mercenary groups / militias like Blackwater (Xe), huh?

Anyways, feel free to keep connecting those crazy dots and pointing fingers at all the "extremists", Ill be in the background laughing some more.

I would just like to add, it would be nice if you would post a link to the transaction when you pass the money.  It makes it easier on me, though its not required.

I was planning on posting one anyways.
Just waiting for the next noob to come along.

Hrm, I dunno if I'd trust a fellow who was openly against Don't Ask, Don't Tell being revoked.  But I suppose there are different reasons; getting more and more people into the military is a common theme lately, despite the military being already bloated beyond belief, and I smell another draft in the works.  Can you link me a few sources for commanders actively refusing to follow certain orders?  I know the military hasn't always been the best in the past ten years (there was a post recently about a member seeking donations for his brother's squad who wasn't even receiving the basic necessities required to do their job, let alone survive comfortably), but people change when times are desperate.  If there is an uprising, I would hope the military would remember who their true commanders are, and it isn't the guys in suits at D.C., but money's never failed before.  I have faith in humanity, but not that much; history has a strange way of repeating itself.  The Germans can attest to killing their own kind, including the handicapped and deformed, and if they could do it under certain circumstances, I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Dont Ask, Dont Tell is a whole other subject, but it goes far beyond the black and white "we dont like them because they dont think like us". Such as the fact that one gay guy, like it or not, can bring down an entire units moral and create discomfort. Especially when you consider that there might be 100+ guys who shit and shower in open right next to their buddy, and then go sleep on a cot 6" away from him. And you shouldnt rule it out completely. There are those who would conform for any number of reasons. Maybe they believe in the cause, maybe they are worried about their families well being, or maintaining that income. Maybe they are near retirement and dont want to risk the pension. But rest assured, those who would allow this insanity to happen are far outnumbered by those who wouldnt.

Umm...you're damaging your own argument. Don't you think that if the military was ordered to put down a "rebellion" that the "rebels" would be labelled domestic terrorists first? If simply saying a US citizen is a domestic terrorist or that martial law is declared and therefore Constitutional rights are null and void then there are no Constitutional rights to nullify. If there's looting and chaos then how does going door to door to take away each citizens right and ability to defend themselves solve the problem? Would YOU follow that order if you were put in that position?

I dont feel I am damaging it at all. There is a vast difference is saying "they are a terrorist, get'em" and someone who is raping, pillaging, and destroying. Your circling right back to that lost sheep misconception. Lets say one of these back woods militias decided to start blowing shit up, and a Guard unit was sent to take them out. Would they? Well if they are blowing shit up, killing people, and hurting Americans, then yeah. If that militia was just popping off rounds in the woods talking big shit about how they are going to overthrow the Government, dont count on it.

As for them rounding up the weapons, I actually never heard of it before. I know quite a few people who were on that detail, and none of them ever mentioned anything about it. Quite a few have talked about detaining police and other things, but never taking weapons from citizens.
