341  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the US press really that free? on: July 05, 2014, 08:51:59 AM
The US press is not quite as bad as it is in some places of the world like China or North Korea, but it will almost always have some kind of bias.

You cannot eliminate bias - that is human.  You can try to curtail it by having reporters state facts as facts and not offer conjecture.  They should make every news piece an opinion piece by selectively withholding facts.

If one side overpowers and basically sidelines the other or multiple other viewpoints it's no longer free.
342  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Martingale System on: July 05, 2014, 08:37:55 AM
I have been told that martingale end up with losing everything  Sad

People usually do because they don't quit whilst they're ahead and get greedy and keep going until they've lost it all.
Well the thing is that with martingale gamblers will need to go from potentially being up a small amount to being down a lot to make up their last lost bet

It starts well and ends terrible...that's usually how martingale works

But if it starts well, then why not stop and then do it again.

Build the balance in small increments or cash out each time so it adds up?

As I said above, you're up after 1 winning bet.  But who quits after 1 bet?  The answer is nobody.  The second bet might very well be the one that breaks your bank.  If you cash it out the odds are in casino's favor so you will most likely go bust before earning back your initial roll-out.
343  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: day trading - what's the catch? on: July 05, 2014, 08:35:13 AM
What the OP is describing is arbitrage.  It works, but only in some areas (some countries don't have the speed to move $).  It doesn't work well on holiday weekends.  And you can lose a lot of the coin price jumps up and you're out in fiat.
344  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: On my journey to earn [btc] Newbie on: July 05, 2014, 08:28:15 AM
3 best ways of getting Bitcoin:

-Sell stuff in the marketplace section for BTC - you will need an escrow if you're new
-Do your regular job and buy BTC with any spare $ you have
-If you have a job where you can sell your services like web designer or programmer - you can do side jobs for BTC again in the marketplace or services section.

Once you figured out how to get your first transaction with a faucet, don't waste your time on it.
345  Other / Off-topic / Re: Happy 4th of July !!!! on: July 05, 2014, 08:24:33 AM
What is so special about 4th of July, sorry i'm not from the same country as you are, please give a bit more data, so others will understand as well.

Special only to US citizens and territories I suppose.  It's the US Independence Day from England's colonial rule.

Lots of beer, hot dogs, BBQ, parks, dogs, kids, music, fireworks.

349  Other / Off-topic / Re: What System You Use on: July 05, 2014, 08:06:54 AM
Been stuck in the Windows world since 1989 (DOS before).  I tried Linux variants but the learning curve was too steep once I had wandered too far into the Windows world.

Win 7 64-bit has been the best OS I've seen from Microsoft - very stable for me.
350  Other / Off-topic / Re: post a picture of your city on: July 05, 2014, 08:02:41 AM
Welcome to my city  Cool

I had invested in oil, gold, diamonds, women and other invaluable things but now, it is time for Bitcoin, the next universe revolution...  Grin Grin Grin

I am assuming that is Dubai.

What exactly do you mean you invested in women?  Slave trade?
351  Other / Off-topic / Re: Ergonomic Chairs on: July 05, 2014, 08:00:16 AM
What is the price of Herman Miller?
Mine was $1.2k - the executive model.

Apple computer. No thanks. But this chair is very good in my opinion.

don't be silly. apple computer for the win. roll with style and quality bro.

Style?  You picking up your date riding on the iMac?

When your PC becomes part of the decor you have too much money.  If you have money to burn, hide the PC entirely and install a movie studio or dance floor... or for you maybe a waterbed with lava lamp  Grin

Back on topic, tempurpedic makes some decent chairs that are as good as HM and cost less.  I got an almost new one on clearance at Staples for $150 and it feels nicer with foam than my $560 leather/burled wood one does.
Yes. I cruise with my iMacs. Pick up all the chicks from coast to coast.

You need to learn to appreciate quality and not raw specs like a geek.

Lol quality from Macs that are assembled in the same facility as 30 other products.  You want stuff done right, you do custom bullet runs.  Gotta pay the price to control the dice.

354  Other / Off-topic / Re: Pizza! on: July 05, 2014, 07:49:03 AM
There's no such thing as a bad pizza.
That being said...you haven't had a really good pizza unless you have had one from a small pizzeria in NYC.

Spent 2 weeks in NYC trying all kinds of pizza since it's my favorite.  To be honest wasn't really impressed.  The was one place that was 2 doors down from a Sbarro oddly and hole-in-the-wall - pretty good.  But I've tasted mom and pop places out here in LA that were better to my taste.  Chicago deep dish should be called Lasagna, it's not pizza.
355  Other / Off-topic / Re: Newegg Now Accepting Bitcoins. Wow! on: July 05, 2014, 07:46:56 AM
That was part of the run up in the price besides the SR coins being released by the DOJ.
356  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: *** GHash.IO mining pool official page *** on: July 05, 2014, 07:44:25 AM
Ghash is confirmed scam
why is ghash a scam??

They're trying to destroy Bitcoin
not really. They demonstrate many times that they can be trusted and it`s not in they`r interest to do a 51% attack

You've been here since 12/2013 and you think they're trustworthy?  You must have your head up your....

They have demonstrated that they're unwilling to do anything to mitigate obtaining 51%.  Name one thing that they have done to spread out the power.
357  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: July 05, 2014, 07:37:45 AM

That could very easily work - depends on the ambient. If it's in a polar region there's no need for AC - just vent the top off and use good filtration.  Problem is we can't what's off the picture, perhaps they have evap coolers.

It couldn't they said themselves it got like an oven in there.

Evap coolers wouldn't really work in an open room full of miners, you need something to separate hot/cold air... a raised floor something like that hot/cold aisle.

The only way an open room setup could work is with an insane amount of AC or like you say being based in Antarctica

It's 100kw of heat and by the looks of it around 2Kw's of air con that's why I lol'd

Evap coolers would work, but yes you do need segmentation - that's how my farm runs.

That room has quite a bit of volume as pictured, probably more if we pan to the left.  2 high volume fans could easily clear out the heat as long as ambient was reasonable - it's doesn't need to be Antarctica.

Even been a blast furnace room - now that's hotter than 100kw of heat!
358  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BFL Monarch, in the Cloud.. (600GHs) on: July 05, 2014, 07:33:30 AM
Well that's the same crap that General Motors tried to pull with the recent car recalls and lawsuits from death.  They stated that the current GM is not responsible because the old GM was responsible and they are a new company.  Feel like buying GM?

BFL will try to keep EMC and their private farms as separate from this shell game.  A good corporate lawyer or AG can easily dispatch that - time will tell.
359  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin difficulty may actually go down in ~10 days! on: July 05, 2014, 07:25:30 AM
Well if mining actually stabilizes it means that we have one of the indicators to a price rise matching
The whole market rate stabilizes and the hash stabilizes leading to a new price boost and an increasing in mining again part of the cycle.
Worth watching either way

Eh I don't think mining and price are that closely associated these days.  Maybe back in the day.  Unless some miner decides to not buy miners and buy coins instead creating demand, it doesn't alter the price.
360  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: The mining process...to buy or not to buy..... on: July 05, 2014, 07:22:47 AM
Let's say I'm at a point where all my mining hardware is paid off already and any new bitcoins I make is just profit going forward. Lets say some of you long time miners are in this situation. Now you are looking around to buy some new hardware. Nothing big, just something to keep you busy. Lets just say you can get a 1TH/S rig for a decent price and have it by next week. Of course the machine will never ROI or break even as they say but you are adding it to your current hashing power and if you take all that hashing power eventually that new rig will break even. Do some of you guys do that? Rely of your current hashing power to pay off new hardware that you buy and may have trouble breaking even?

What you would be doing then is killing your previous profit by wasting it on a losing endeavor with the current generation of miners.  I would just take my profit and sit on it.  The only reason somebody would want to mine for a loss is if they're bored or want to help decentralize.
