People are sitting here freaking out of a drop from 620 to 570. It is nothing.
Shit I remember in September-October, bitcoin was hovering around 120-135 all the time. I didn't even care about the price at that time as I wasn't trading, and I don't think anyone normal (not a trader) is worried about these price levels.

Bitcoin was a long term investment for me and I couldn't care about 20 dollars price swing and I am sure most people don't.
Anyone freaking out now is for sure overreacting.

not everyone is holding 500%+ profit coins with nothing to worry about.
Not everyone is a trader, most bitcoiners are hoarders and normal people.
Meaning they will sell their bitcoins only if the really need the money, but regular people have a day job and BTC is just a savings account. They are not freaking out of price drops like this.

136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [Monero Development] Event on this Wednesday, "Git Crash Course" on: July 28, 2014, 09:43:09 PM
Since git (and, by extension, github) can be confusing to developers that are working on Monero code (or on any git repositories, really), one of the Monero key contributors, tewinget, will be hosting a Git Crash Course next week Wednesday, July 30th. He will be joined by fluffypony, and all interested are invited to attend. It will be broadcast through Twitch, and questions and discussions will happen in #monero-dev on Freenode during the course. It's going to be relaxed and informal, so if you want to know how to use git properly it's well worth tuning in. It will start at 2pm EST (6pm UCT). Feel free to invite anyone that you think will benefit from it!
137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: monero vs BBR ? on: July 28, 2014, 08:53:02 PM
What differences are there between the two coins on a technical level? Meaning... has either dev team added something to the cryptonote code, or done anything to really differentiate them?

I'm still waiting for a dev to figure out a solution to the bloat issues with all cryptonote coins. It wouldn't surprise me to see a dev wander in one day with a new coin, have a fix for the bloat + gui wallet, and overshadow all existing cryptonote coins.
I think the main reason is that BBR is just a one an show while XMR have a lot of really talanted devs around it.

Hi

I am going to invest some money in altcoins. I have 2.5btc for that purpose. How much would you suggest investing in monero? What about the risks that it could go to zero this year?

Thank you
Monero is already being used for true anonymity on a lot of exchanges and recently poloniex created markets only for XMR.
I believe it have a real good usage here, being the coin that you can improve your privacy with.
Monero/XMR have a great future in my opinion. Whether you should invest or not and how much,  is your decision.
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] rpietila Monero Economics thread on: July 28, 2014, 02:04:02 PM
rpietila what I find very interesting about Monero is how much Bitcoin developers really like the CryptoNote concept. Take for example gmaxwell, PeterTodd, wumpus, nanotube etc.
Every name I mentioned have spoken well about XMR and currently three of the names are active in #Monero-dev.
wumpus is the leader of Bitcoin development team, he took over after Gavin and to my suprise I find him in the Monero dev channel.
I find this very interesting, because all of the guys here are really good cryptographers and have been the core bitcoin developers for years.

To see if the names here also particpate in other altcoin channels on freenode, I checked #darkcoin-dev, #darkcoin, #ethereum and #bytecoin and I could not find any of them has such a huge backing by good developers as Monero have.
For me as an investor, this give Monero huge credibility.

A question to you rpietila, did any of the above mentioned names influence you in your decision to support Monero? How did you find Monero from the very beginning?

When will people learn that privacy doesn't attract criminals?
The criminals are already out there, they will do the bad things no matter if they have privacy or not.
Privacy is a human right and if we would have more privacy I believe the world would be a better place.
