61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: September 04, 2014, 06:18:50 PM

You will eat those words you fool, rammed through your arsehole by a jackbook.

Your pride in Bitcoin is not factually justified.

And it is very relevant to altcoins.
Do you think you are the only one on this forum with conspiracy theories? This has been discussed 1000 times already, just take a look at post from 2011 and 2012. It's not even relevant anymore and if something like this were to threaten bitcoin there are other subforums here on Bitcointalk for it.

This thread should be about technical discussions for altcoins and not some boring old conspiracy theory.

I see three categories right now as an altcoin investor:
PoS coins
Anonymous coins
2.0 coins

Would you categorize it further down?

Can we get back to talking about AnonyMint's idea of government backed digital currencies? It's something that seems inevitable but everyone seems to conveniently ignore.

Imagine the efficiency of tax collecting through a database of currency you control. It's the government's ultimate weapon.
Seriously please don't.
I advise rpietila to moderate post about this. This such a boring old subject that has been discussed all over Bitcointalk "What if government blabla"
Truth is government will not succeed because no one will support it this is the whole idea behind Bitcoin, that Bitcoin is unstoppable, and anyone who thinks otherwise is just a complete tin foil hat that can go back to the conspiracy forum.

Can we go back to technical discussions about altcoins and not some conspiracy nut job theories from AnonyMint.

Mintpal price is about 0.00415 now, HitBTC was frozen at 0.00380 after some had dumped on low volume (2,500 XMR) at the last moment.

All I ask is that the most reputable and highest-volume exchange, Poloniex, would:
- announce the resumption of trading at least 1 hour in advance;
- allow traders to enter orders during this time;
- arrange a market-clearing procedure at the moment when the trading starts, so that the existing bids and asks that coincide, would be matched with each other at the midprice that clears all of them, to not favor sellers or buyers.

Code:
<@fluffypony> busoni: also, thoughts on this - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg8672104#msg8672104 ?
<busoni> fluffypony: I can announce in advance, but the other things are not possible
<@fluffypony> 100%
<busoni> The new trading engine does not allow crossed orderbooks
<busoni> Okay, I'll announce an unfreeze in about an hour... the wallet should be finished resyncing by then.

Trading should be resumed in hours.

Sounds like AnonyMint is a tinfoil hat if he is suggesting that a centralized crypto currency like Equadors state currency, will over take Bitcoin.

Regardless of what AnonyMint actually suggests, I wonder if you have a point with Ecuador.  Suppose, in some possible world differing greatly from reported plans, that Ecuador's Central Bank clones Bitcoin Core and modifies it slightly so that the Central Bank is the sole mint which can mine the digital currency. Furthermore, in this possible world, Ecuador retires its dependence on the US dollar and mandates the new digital currency as legal tender.

Are you talking about some modified version of Bitcoin that works the same way as Bitcoin but is mined and controlled solely by Equador government?
Who would support that? Do you think any government would want to give up power to Equador?

The government is all about having control, they could run their own Bitcoin and force people to use it. But who would support THAT government? The rest of the world wouldn't care about it and the truth to the Equador people would get out there as long as we have the internet for communication.

In the long term anything that is controlled by one or few people, would not be supported by the rest of the crowd.

Now I realize what was the reason for the mid-move turn back at 510 and the quite strong selling towards 400, which was not supported by fundamentals or anything.

The attackers have taken a short position during the decline (causing the decline), and when they run out of coins, the price also stopped declining. When it started going up, it was the time to attack.

Now if the holders sell their coins so that the price drops to below 400, without corresponding buyers except the attackers, then the attackers have won financially, fleecing the community. (The community has also won, because the bug was fixed and attack repelled.)

I pledge 1000 XMR to the devs for their ongoing good work, and BTC100 will be used to buy moneros in the exchange without further warning if I deem that the scamattackers are about to get too fat a profit from their attack.

I will use another ~BTC10 to buy XMR once the time has come (/ trading continues).

I'll put at least 5 BTC on the table for buying and I'll donate at least 25 XMR when problem is solved to the devs.
OK investors and traders. Let''s put up a buy wall at 0.004 and find a floor there. Anyone selling will have to buy back in more expensive if successful.
By putting your order at 0.004 you are supporting the floor.
I will chip in some myself.
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 03, 2014, 05:25:59 PM
Possible break out scenarios:
GUI wallet interface released by dev team.
Cryptsy ads XMR to their exchange. (Rumour)
Open Bazaar is modified to work with Monero.
A decent online wallet is released.

I say BTC-e adding XMR will have a greater impact than it would being added to cryptsy.
Possible. But I don't think btc-e will ever add any more coins. Happy to be wrong on that subject though.

I say more likely Bitfinex dumps DRK and add XMR.
Now that would be fun.  Cheesy

9+x return in less than 60 days?  That is a bold call.
It's the altcoin market. Crazier things have happened before.
See my possible break out scenarious mentioned above.

The funny thing about it is that no one of us is actively trading our holdings, so we are not contributing to any bottoms forming. It might be just that we are the only ones that provide serious leadership about trading without daytrading ourself, and the market follows it.

Let's see if I can call a top occurring in October, I say the top here will be 0.037.

The reasoning is that we must form a top that is greater than Darkcoins top. If we do so, the market have chosen the definite anonymity coin.
Darkcoins peak was 0.027, if we go up above 0.027 the excitement will take us over 0.03.
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 03, 2014, 03:53:06 PM
I have noticed a lot of times when me and rpietila pulled out numbers for bottoms forming, and most of the times the market have followed the numbers we put out.
Might be a coincidence or not, who knows.

Before everyone panics, does anyone have any lawyer friends who could perhaps drop in here and give their opinion?

Personally I love Poloniex and I would hate to see anything happen to them.

edit: https://poloniex.com/icdrequirements

I think it's going to be alright. Poloniex knows what their doing.
Poloniex and the free market making it's own rules in the wild west of BTC. SEC have more important things to harass.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 03, 2014, 03:44:01 PM
Sure. But unless you have a huge quantity of coins to sell, you cannot force it down by more than a few 0.00001s.

My interpretation on the situation is that it does make sense for latent buyers to buy because there is little to gain even from huge dumps (except if you arrange your buys as bid walls that the others have also done, aggravating the bid/ask imbalance). By waiting you win very little even if you are right. The walls are very real, nothing has been pulled during the downtrend.

I remember when 0.00334 was being defended with huge walls, after bouncing from that area many times. A huge dump ensued, taking it down to 0.00290 (lowest daily average was 0.00305, this is a better measure if you actually needed to try to buy that low). So a gain of less than 10% for the patient waiters.

If we just scale the numbers, the dump case now would be that 50k XMR get sold quickly to force the price from 0.00394 to 0.00342 as its lowest point, but the average for the lowest day would be 0.00360. This would scale very well with the ascending lows trend of 175-231-290-342, so would not be an impossible outcome (quite probable, actually) but also in no way "bad". Remember - it's only -10%, and nobody compels you to sell at a loss! Smiley

The upside is much more than 10%, and the resistance to get there is much smaller. I give this scenario a higher percentage as a result.

A shameless repost, I think this was a good analysis and would like to hear comments.
Don't think it's a good analysis. We have been up and visisted 0.005 at least 2 times now on the shorter time frame, 4 times on the larger one. The big holders of XMR have already had their chance to sell.

There is nothing alarming that would make anyone sell now. Frankly I think it's just daytraders selling, a lot of small fishes, trading in order to increase their XMR holdings.

Anyone have any reason to trust Hitbtc with money?
Poloniex is great, busoni already suffered a hack and reimbursed everyone. And busoni seems to be making a lot of money so it's not worth scamming anyone.

Not so sure about Hitbtc, but I really need another place to trade on sometimes.

Boolberry is a name I can imagine will be used everywhere in the world.
I can already hear the conversation of the lady in the supermarket saying to my grand mother "That'll be 32 boolberries, thx"

I've resisted your gracious offers for me to come develop at your castle, because:

1. It would waste precious time. We would talk too much. Coders need to talk less and be locked in a cave most of the time.

Monero.
Reasons: Excellent anonymity. Currently sits on 5th spot on www.Coingecko.com but only 11 on www.coinmarketcap.com
This means that Monero is undervalued right now.

Here is a comparison I made with Monero v.s other coins.

First. Let's look at Blackcoin a pump and dump currently at 16 spot at Coinmarketcap. Chart indicates two peaks, with no rebound and currently falling more for every day. Notice the low volume after the initial two pump and dumps. It is incredibly small.

Secondly let's look at Xcurrency. An incredible huge pump and dump with zero volume except it's initial peak. This train crashed already at first station.

And now let's take a look at Monero.  USD marketcap is once again reaching it's previous all time high and volume is there. This tells that demand for XMR is still very high for it's current price.

rpietila aka Monero Jesus have PUT and CALL options for Monero, like he posted just one reply above me.
I cannot understand why no one is using it except me.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make extra cash whether you believe monero is going up or down.
CALL = You think it's going to go up.
PUT = You think it's going down.

rikkejohn, the fact that XMR is mentioned in Bitcoin bullbear report is big, they do never write about altcoins except LTC. They have had that premium trading magazine for a couple of years now
