Ya I think as like you. The price of bitcoin will never or ever goes near to 2000$ at all .Few week back,China banned the bitcoin, what is the lowest value reach of bitcoin. Actually the government can do it anytime, but of course they have special analysis and consideration so the government let bitcoin. if one day there is a special regulation about bitcoin, of course, aimed at protecting the regular currency.
I don't think governments can eradicate the usage of bitcoin, because in the past when certain countries banned bitcoin the users still had accessibility to the usage of bitcoin. And checking for today, the price of bitcoin hits $3,700. Yes that is human nature they dont believe in these things they always want profit the only thing you need to do is have believe and trust in bitcoin that it will go up and up to the sky then you will make more profit than ever. The belief is there, we all believe in bitcoin that it will skyrocket in the future. And this week is a good greener week unlike the past week everything is falling down even the alt coins. Depends if you really need to use it. If not it's better saved for what you yourself mentioned was an increase in value. Of course you have to be always informed with trends. If you are using an exchange with a low spread you might profit by converting some of it into fiat during all time highs and use that money to buy during plunges.
Ofcourse you must think about your needs, that if you needed to spend some for your expenses then why not but if you are just going to spend it on things that are not much needed then that is not quite good because somehow we all know that bitcoins price is unpredictable and it is not worth it to just spend off the btc you've worked to earned. It is not wrong to look up for the future, atleast whatever happens whenever you needed funds you'll be prepared for it because you had saved enough. We should be dependable based on our needs since what if we don't have money to buy some foods then you have bitcoins would you still choose to save it eventhough your tummy is roaring? As what the title says, do we really need to depend on China on cryptocurrency? I say no imho.... Look at Facebook and Google. They are both banned in China, and yet they worth billions.
