341  Economy / Currency exchange / WTS 1.45BTC for £100 UK Bank Transfer on: June 08, 2013, 12:55:34 PM
I am looking to sell 1.45BTC for £100 via bank transfer. I don't mind using Escrow however I would ask that you cover the fee's, the reason being I have conducted all previous transactions without Escrow and every transaction has been complete without a hitch. The easiest way to complete the transfer is probably through my UK exchange 'BTCSense.co.uk' which will provide the transfer payment details instantly upon order, however we can simply send the details via private message if you don't want to go through the hassle of registering at BTCSense.

If you would like to use the BTCSense option let me know and I will set up a custom order link.

Shameless plug: I am selling some BTC as I plan to stock some knives(maybe even a sword) which I am going to custom engrave and sell at my LevitatedINK store. These items will be available soon so keep an eye out.  Cool

Some Recent Transactions (Without Escrow)

342  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Branded Bitcoin Tablet Devices on: June 04, 2013, 08:05:48 PM
Could TOR be built into an Android ROM? It is a cool idea but it seems like a lot the Tor element itself would take up a large portion of the project development. At the moment my interests steer more towards using the tablet as an interface, I want Bitcoin to be more user friendly so having an intuitive set of features making it easier to get started was my intention.
343  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Branded Bitcoin Tablet Devices on: June 03, 2013, 03:12:08 PM
Microsoft could steal your money easily, Apple, Paypal, your bank, Amazon, eBay could steal your money.

For me, it would be only my bank.  Exactly for the reason I don't know what those "closed systems" do, I do not use non-free software and try to avoid proprietary services (in the case of my bank that's unfortunately not possible in today's society).  I do acknowledge though that there are (a lot of) people who do not care about that.

So to answer the original question:  For me to even consider using such a device, it would have to be based on completely free software; in particular your custom apps and modifications to Android would have to be.  That said, at the moment I do not think I would need it anyway ... because I'm happy with my smartphone (running free software) and the basic Android wallet app.

If the apps were made opensource and the community wants to develop them further then that would be great, it saves me time developing more specific apps and ideas Smiley. The premium unit is in front at the moment which does seem to suggest people would like the higher quality product which is great.

I guess I should give a sample of my ideal Bitcoin tablet in regards to hardware.

HD: 32GB
SCREEN: 9-10inch
MEMORY: 1GB
CPU & GPU: Undecided but mid grade parts
CAMERAS: None
Style:
Black
Engraved Bitcoin logo on the back
Custom Theme & Wallpaper

Accessories:
Engraved Cover/Stand
Standard Stylus
Cheap headset with engravings to match the tablet? Cheesy

I think I am a little obsessed with the whole engraving part of the brand style, I just purchased some nice equipment and I will be engraving my current devices over the next week or so I hope I can interest you guys in the style idea too.
344  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Branded Bitcoin Tablet Devices on: June 03, 2013, 11:19:12 AM
Basically you want to charge more money by just branding a cheap chinese/Japanese tablet.

Your prices are way to high. People will not buy them in that prices unless there's something new in hardware.

Did you read the post fully? The devices will have Bitcoin apps build specifically for the device, possibly a custom ROM and also custom hardware, depending on the price which is why I made this thread. I don't want people to say they do or don't like the prices but rather what kind of spec/features and the price they would pay.  The prices I included are purely estimates and will change depending on what users would want.

Please don't make assumptions about my intent on the project, I am trying to get suggestions and feedback rather than accusations of trying to fleece people out of their money.

OK and why do you think they will use your custom made rom or app? If they will put money in wallet and rom/app is backdoored  You can steal their bitcoins easily.

Microsoft could steal your money easily, Apple, Paypal, your bank, Amazon, eBay could steal your money. There are users out there who want to help Bitcoin grow, just because there is potential for an elaborate scam that does not mean we just give up all projects and hope the big companies show support. If you feel this is a scam simply wait it out for reviews just like any other product.

This thread is intended for getting ideas and support on possible specs and prices, you seem intent on making loads of hypothetical accusations against an idea that has only just gone public. It is a shame because I have been totally honest and up front from the start, these devices will be based purely on what users want and suggest in the thread. The docking station idea is a prime example of the kind feedback that is helpful.
345  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Branded Bitcoin Tablet Devices on: June 03, 2013, 10:56:26 AM
It needs a docking station with USB so one can connect their miners to it, be it ASICMINER, AVALON or BFL.

Yeah I was thinking for the miner app a fullscreen interface could show data and stats of the mining operation. I think it would be possible to create a dock, otherwise a basic USB connection and a custom case/stand could also work.

Today I would like to share an idea that I have been contemplating over the last month or so, I would like to gauge how interested and receptive the community is to a Bitcoin tablet device. The whole idea is centered more towards the apps which would either be created specifically for the device or in partnership with existing services who would like to be part of the hardware range.

Before I progress any further I feel it is necessary to find out how much demand there might be for these devices. I would also like to get an idea of what kind of spec and the price range you would be expecting. There is plenty of scope for different specs and the device could either function as an everyday tablet device or a even hardcore stripped down version catering specifically to Bitcoin users, merchants and miners.

The prices below only function as rough estimates, also these devices would also be sold in Bitcoin of-course. I would appreciate your feedback, comments and thoughts on the project. At the moment I am also interested in getting some people together to work on some of the app ideas, and possibly the ROM of the device. I could develop my own web apps to add to the device but perhaps some native apps will provide improved user experience.

All the typical tablet apps, functions programs including the Android Market (Games, Music, Ebooks etc).

Future possibilities:
Naturally I would rather build the best spec tablet for Bitcoin as possible, my initial idea which inspired me to develop this project was the idea of using tablets as instant payment devices. So users could swipe their tablet device and pay for items at checkout in supported stores. This idea is possible but would require additional support in both funding and expertise.

The prices above simply act as a rough indicator of the lowest to highest price range of each unit. Once more concrete hardware specs of formulated an accurate price will be provided.

350  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 29, 2013, 06:11:12 PM
In my opinion religion is a mutated form of spirituality, mutated into a system usually designed to oppress or instill a central authorities rules on everyone else. New cults still plague 21st century nations today, like popular religions the cult leader teaches rules to abide, ways the dress, rituals and so on. Humans are easily led and conditioning from childhood pretty much multiplies that effect. I would much rather meditate and find out about my own existence rather than rely on some passed down 51% attacked scripture. The funny thing is I would say the most peaceful kind of people are those who are left living in jungles and other remote areas unaffected by any of our popular religious/cultural systems.

Also lol at that premise of the op, you could liken the concept to not being able to play a PS3 or sending emails.  Cheesy

A larger slider ad is also now available on the homepage from o.5BTC. McLovin currently holds top position on all 3 regular banner ads at 0.01BTC.

I have setup a new UK exchange over the last few days, I am still ironing out some issues though. I know the op is more centered around mining but perhaps my service will be of interest. I was actually wondering If I could add a mining section on the exchange. I am SE London based.
354  Economy / Economics / Re: Hoarding Vs. Spending on: May 27, 2013, 09:03:39 PM
I think "hoarding" has too much of a negative connotation to it nowadays. Might have something to do with the talking head rhetoric all over the media proclaiming spending and spending and spending some more is the way to prosperity.

The hoarding (aka. not spending your money on stuff you don't need, especially if you can get that stuff for currency inferior to Bitcoin) aspect of Bitcoin is brilliant in my opinion, because it pushes us from away from the exponential growth oriented economic models of today and towards sustainability.

Yes, constant economic growth is declared to be always good and that's not true.
E.g. if everyone sells shitty fridges that have to be changed every year, you will have more "growth".

If I gave you the BTC would you be able to buy a fridge, even a shitty one? The problem is not enough merchants know about Bitcoin, and those who do probably don't see many people spending it. I have been suggesting that spending will be beneficial as more merchants will see it as a viable option worth implementing. This is not about supporting a consumer culture which I totally disagree with, this is about showing businesses that Bitcoin can be used as money and they will get earn new revenue if they start using it. Imagine if articles started popping up showing new businesses making a killing through the Bitcoin community buying their products, this would quickly encourage new merchants, new customers, new savers, new spenders and everything in between. The alternative would be a continued progression of some new merchants, some customers and a shit load of new hoarders lol.
355  Economy / Economics / Re: Hoarding Vs. Spending on: May 27, 2013, 06:46:46 PM

I actually offer lower prices in return for Bitcoin so I would say that my FIAT and BTC quotes are separate.

Just a thought, do miners sell BTC for less FIAT than it costs them to generate each BTC?

Selling at a lower price provides value to the client but in the long run I make up the difference and then some once the prices rise. I have made more from lower BTC quotes then I have my average FIAT prices so I am not in doubt of the strategy, I would not continue to use it if I was losing out. Remember the miners make profit too so they could sell their BTC lower (cutting into profits) but without cutting into the base cost of running the rigs, your proposition assumes anything lower is taken out of the running costs. If a miner was to sell lower this would give them a competitive edge over other sellers so I see no reason why a miner wouldn't also use this strategy.

Freelance services and mining are two very different income streams anyway, a good illustrator could spend an hour creating an image and sell it for upwards of £300, if he was to sell at 2BTC(lower) he still made a good amount considering he spent an hour working.

357  Economy / Economics / Re: Hoarding Vs. Spending on: May 27, 2013, 06:04:02 PM

Interesting thoughts, I guess hoarding is only an issue if everybody does it and the same principle applies to spending.

Problem is not with hoarding per se, but with hoarding by miners (a.k.a. the central banks of bitcoin economy). It's everyday people who make a currency what it is, by using it to track the daily exchange of goods and services between themselves. Miners' only responsibility (aside from keeping the block chain alive and intact) is to seed enough bitcoins into circulation in order to grease enough of those daily exchange transactions between people.

I have found that people seem a lot more inclined to pay for services such as freelance with Bitcoin...

But are you charging in fiat-based prices, or BTC-based prices? By that I mean, are you relying on speculative exchange rates when setting your prices?

I use FIAT prices as a rough guide however I actually offer lower prices in return for Bitcoin so I would say that my FIAT and BTC quotes are separate. I tend to quote a price I feel is appropriate at the time, sometimes factoring in the direction I feel the market is heading. I do see the issue you are getting at though, it is also the basis for my questions in regards to the OP, until the community is spend and buy we dont really know the value beyond what is speculated. Once I know what my 0.4BTC is worth over extended periods, irrespective of FIAT I can the provide quotes without thinking about FIAT at all.
358  Economy / Economics / Re: Hoarding Vs. Spending on: May 27, 2013, 04:55:23 PM
Interesting thoughts, I guess hoarding is only an issue if everybody does it and the same principle applies to spending. I do still feel that more spending will boost the long term potential of Bitcoin though. I have found that people seem a lot more inclined to pay for services such as freelance with Bitcoin which is interesting, perhaps it is just the niche area I have been catering too. I have made perhaps 75% more from working on freelance projects then I have in the past using FIAT, has anyone else experienced this? The same goes for funding now that I think about it, people are always offering to fund random projects lol.
359  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Custom ASIC Minging Rig - Hardware? on: May 27, 2013, 12:18:17 AM
I would like to get some advice on the type of rig spec required for a high performance mining rig functioning as a viable(profitable) option for the next 2 - 3 years. I have lots of design concepts and a programmer friend keeps trying to talk me into developing a unit, I did go through a phase of it would not be profitable but I am entertaining the idea for the moment as I hate to turn down ideas. I would really appreciate a break down of the hardware components necessary to contruct a unit.

Yes I am aware of the difficulties of having the ASIC chips and PCB boards manufactured.  Smiley
360  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How often do you check the price of Bitcoin? on: May 26, 2013, 10:56:35 PM
I have Bitcoin paranoid on my tablet, I notice the price most of the time I am on the tablet checking emails and so on. The app also makes a sound alert when a big fall or rise occurs, I don't day trade but it is useful to know how Bitcoin is doing.
