1101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: | NEO Smart Economy⚡Now a Top 10 Cryptocurrency⚡| Official Thread |Updated Aug10 on: November 04, 2017, 01:16:40 AM
Any news on Aphelion? I won't regurgitate what we already know, but the timing of that ICO and the next fork are pretty close to each other, so it could be important.

This will be interesting for NEO, the Aphelion ICO is on the 15th November https://apheliontoken.com/ and the SegWit2x fork for is due around the 16th November.
So where to put your Bitcoin - into NEO for the Aphelion ICO or Bitcoin for the fork, desicions, desicions!

Whether new incoming ICOs follow the trend of the previous ones due to the strength of btc, I don't think you can make a mistake in deciding where to have you btc.

Btw, I'm really enjoying this hype for the new neo news.

I like the newsletter way to communicate and keep the community updated.
Just to avoid ambiguity, do not abbreviate coinmarketcap with CMC, as CMC is a well established trading platform.

Looking forward to receiving more good news!

Congratulation for the successful ICO. 0.5M$ is a really good achievement.
Looking forward to exciting news, miner and exchange, as well as wallet working properly.
Well done Aaron and team.

Wooooooow!
On time like they said!
Look at the design of the site that Nikola did. What do you think?

The website looks super cool! So neat and easy to navigate on. Very good job.
I am pretty sure the release of the chille platform will be a success.
Keep up the good work!

1106  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Do run a Bitcoin Core FULL NODE Now! on: November 01, 2017, 09:05:09 AM
I used to run the full node on my workstation. But since I switched to a laptop (much more handy for what I do at the moment), I cannot do that any longer.
First, it will take ages to download the blockchain;
Second, while downloading the blockchain, hardly I can do other things (even though my laptop is not that bad)!
That is a shame I cannot keep doing it!
Would you have any solution?

p3ppymon,
Possible solutions:

1) You may download the whole blockchain at once from my Google Drive (see details in  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2321650

2) You may keep  a pruned blockchain (personally I have never tried it)

3) while downloading the blockchain you can be safely doing any other things with your laptop! Process, CPU, download bandwidth will be busy 3-20% only.
Besides, on windows you may use any advanced task manager (I use http://systemexplorer.net  it's free)  to set the process priority, etc. for the Bitcoin Core application to even more reduce its hardware requirements.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will try to give it a go downloading again the bull blockchain from your drive.
1107  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is an asset or currency. on: November 01, 2017, 06:36:10 AM
By definition:

An asset is a resource with economic value that an individual, corporation or country owns or controls with the expectation that it will provide future benefit.

Hence, I presume you can intent it as both, as long as you fully control the private key.
1108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum price surge to devcon3? on: November 01, 2017, 06:24:30 AM
Is that just a conference or a place where a new update will be released?
If the latter is true, we need to see the impact of such new technology and how will affect the environment. Otherwise, I cannot envisage a sudden increase of ETH with respect to btc.
1109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin future on: November 01, 2017, 06:19:18 AM
Altcoins investment is quite risky at the moment, a specially in the medium/long term. With the btc rally price, you would end up with substantial losses. Fiat wise, you might break even, but I am sure this is something you don't want.
1110  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is the risk of holding Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2017, 10:13:46 PM
As bitcoin cannot disappear, the only risk (quite little) is a substantial drop in the price. But many people invested heavily so this scenario is quite unlikely.
Be sure you have a strong password to protect your wallet. This will help to prevent from having the value of your btc going to zero!

Is there any similar coin in the world that gives you a second coin just by holding and not having to run the full node?
I.e. NEO holders receive GAS. Anything other coin would generate revenue this way (excluding POS tokens).
1115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Buying and Holding the only way? on: October 31, 2017, 09:53:42 AM
i tried to calculate how much would i make from bitcoin mining using an antminer s9, and i don't think it's worth it for me as the cost of electricity is high where i live, which is in the UK (it's 20 cents approx), i make like $300 profit a year. and obviously i can't use faucets as that will take years to get one bitcoin. so is the only way to even get any value from bitcoin is to buy it and hold it on for another few years? but it is a risky investment due to the price. or should i invest in new currencies that are cheap right now and have potential to grow to $4k a coin?  Huh

I would definitely disregard all the faucet related business as it is a waste of time - too low income per hour.
Mining directly bitcoin is not longer profitable for small miners as the cost of running the rig is quite high.
Try trading and see how it goes. You might find your fortune!
1116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What to buy these days? on: October 30, 2017, 09:41:43 PM
What are the good coins to buy these days and why?

Gnosis?
Digibyte?
ETH?
DeepOnion?
Else?
Go for Ethereum. It is one of the most popular crypto available in the market right now and will give you good gains. With a market capital of 40 billion dollars It's price has a potential to cross $900 within a year. Being a software platform which can be coded by itself and activated through the blockchain system by its developers, its development roadmap looks promising. You can expect a good amount of worth from it.
Experts expect new capital to flow into crypto currencies in 2018, ethereum, Monero, Lisk, Waves and some other altcoins are supposed to reach very high levels, thus $900 for ethereum might happen next year.
People are slowly asking me more and more about crypto at the very least. But so far only very few of them are actively involved. But it's clear that things are changing and that demand and interest are increasing very quickly.

It is true that people are more and more involved in altcoins. However, if their price remain so constantly directed by the btc price, how can anyone expect to invest substantial money in it... only speculation in my opinion.
1117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Worried about btc future on: October 30, 2017, 08:25:43 PM
Why should you be worried about it? There is only to be happy about it. Whether btc will make a bigger impact, everyone will be much happier!
People will appreciate more and more what is the potential of btc and all other valuable currencies. Time will tell.
1118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLG] Sterlingcoin v1.6.0.1 | United Kindom | Bleutrade on: October 30, 2017, 10:04:08 AM
Why bleutrade slg wallet is in maintenance ?

Bleutrade would know that answer. But I think it is safe to assume they are resycing.

Thank you for reporting that they are in maintenance and alerting the community of it.

Thank you for bringing this to attention. Bleutrade has been contacted to see if we can be off any assistance.

To update the community, Bleutrade has yet to respond to the ticket and their Sterlingcoin wallet does remain in maintenance mode. I hope the weekend is the cause for both delays.

Cryptopia has been verified. Their wallet remains open and is correct.

Any communication from any exchange is always promptly reported. Have a great week, Sterlingcoiners.

Thanks for the update. You are always very open, clear and fair with the community behind.
Very much appreciated.
1119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Waves future on: October 30, 2017, 09:53:02 AM
for a long time people say that the waves will grow but this did not happen.
I think it may rise to an unexpected level

What sort of timescale you are considering? A pump might occur overnight, a steady increase happens in a different time frame.
I keep waiting very relaxed to double figures (or more)!
1120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Other BTC, are you holding any other crypto? on: October 30, 2017, 08:43:09 AM
I have a few other coins, neo and ETH. Some more bought during ICOs.  I will hold them till they will be profitable enough for a decent profit. Or at least I hope so.
