3301  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Hold or Sell on: December 25, 2017, 03:32:12 PM
myself, the TAX MAN cometh

now I got a crap load of equip and stuff last year to offset some of this

but there are consequences of getting a crap load of scrypt-pow miners on a post/bet here on bitcointalk.org
april 1st 2017 (april fools day) on my claim of a $6 buck FLOOR...(sheesh was I off)

Thus, been trying to compensate for tax issues, but hard to keep up on equip (dubious bitmain products) etc

to compensate for the 'windfall'

thus, I expect crypto to be sideways at best at around 13k ..just because...of the uncertainty

like kind is going away next year in USA..thus a trade of ether to ltc to bitcoin in the past you could pass

it all thru from what I understand to BTC and only pay capital gains when you spent the bitcoin

now you have to pay capital gains each coin it hits along the way

you spend it right away (same day) not an issue...you save up btc (like i did) for equip and ltc goes up 5x

and then move it to btc your dorked a bit

also, IRS in USA still has no plan on what to do about the free Bitcoin Cash money....a small chance, imho,

they could call it income..thus you have say 100 btc..you have gross income of 28k more you have pay taxes

on

unlikely you say, this is the same IRS that went after 15 million accounts on coinbase and demanded everything,
including passwords, because they found THREE guys using coinbase to cheat taxes via BTC

the same IRS that in 2013 put out the IRS guidelines on cryptocurrency 10 days before the April 15th tax
filing deadline...demanding capital gains back to 2009 on all crypto spent

so me, I'll be happy with 13k sideways, but not counting on it

3302  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Charlie Lee Sold his Litecoin for "Conflicts of Interest" on: December 25, 2017, 01:56:42 PM
He wants to prove that his not associated with what's happening to his coin.

But who knows if he is really saying the real thing that he sold most of his litecoins, he can just bluff or it's for real since he's totally a rich lad.

I'm thinking that he's using the word "charity/donation" to avoid something.

He probably 'believes' that is why he is doing this...on the other hand...he 'sold' at the high prices....so delusion in this case can work both ways

he has his cake and eats it too...( I'm selling because of conflict of interest (reality: tummy hurts from possible bubble), sold at the height, (tummy

no longer hurts from the possible bubble, but a soothing effect of selling at the price high...helps him sleep at nite

not sure if sold if the prices were reversed, he'd feel all that chipper

was a win/win choice in 20/20 hindsight Smiley

3303  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Turning $50,000 into 1M in 365 days- Buy and Hold possible? on: December 25, 2017, 01:42:00 PM

As an aside, I have a buddy that did this with Verge coin, he was mining as a lark since this last summer. (helped he was a big miner).

He cashed out 1/2 for a cool million to BTC....the other half will get moved eventually for taxes ...)

I, of course, forgot about any such conversation on Verge...alas....another missed boat. (It's a frigging fleet I have of missed boats!)

Rare it is, but possible, usually with an alt pump.

3304  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will rise during the Christmas holidays on: December 25, 2017, 01:36:31 PM

Not a chance....at best btc price, imho, will go sideways at around 13k till Feb 2017

Too much of us have Taxes due on our mining.

Also, in USA like kind exchange is now gone...price it gonna take a hit on that..on any xfer

between coin you will pay 40% under 1 year or 20% over 1 year on all profits on EACH transaction

no more...dumping LTC to ETH and then to BTC hoard w/o capital gains taxes (or however it worked...I never got into it that far)

with waiting when you cashed out BTC to USD to take the hit...

also, this is true of every individual TRADE or PURCHASE

now if the powers that be decide that all the Bitcoin Cash that fell out of the sky, is considered income, we will be well

and truly screwed

so no...sideways is my bet

(what do I know as a newbie I believed in BFL/paycoin and 2013 $1,000 btc....)

edit: needs to be a btc based romance service for btc nerds in countries that don't have this kinda crap...I need to be a house hubby

in that country to get away from the IRS.....(If Megan Markle can do it for love/and a prince...I can do if for btc/sex) Smiley

3305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: December 25, 2017, 12:57:26 PM
@Searing ... where do you mine dash?

was doing it with the Baikal 300mh cube until sept 2017...made 6.51 dash... but

now that 300mh cube and my 2 dubious miners have been mining the multipool

since then....just merged it all on an LTC bet

www.prohashing.com

which allows payout in % in many coins..me all is getting paid out in LTC

so using my D3's like a L3+ miner

lame but simple

later

brad

how do you compare prohasing with multipool.us ?

never bothered...to check ...just did the two....if I decide I'm not getting enough love from prohashing due to their issues and no multicoin to pump up the returns like

bitconnect coin did in the past (10-15% more a month or so ago above litecoinpool calculator (101%) even with PH fees

thus, If I find that PH is not cutting it anymore ...I'll simply move back to litecoinpool in that all my hash has gone to LTC the last

well...hell forever...since I got my 1st Titan Nov 8th 2014.....(ah ...if i'd only kept them all pure and not converted to BTC or toys) Smiley

might be a relief....on litecoinpool for the first all those years since this past summer I ran on litecoinpool with NO backup pool

it never went down....I guess it has gone down a few times since this summer

but apples to apples if they are even...I'll just go back to litecoinpool for the 'stability' and lack of drama

edit: I did try mining Verge coin yesterday...but considering I can never get an address to verify nor the wallet on the desktop after almost

3 days to synch...I punted back to LTC (after 3 years I strayed....damn)

so multipool I would guess would be in the mix with PH and litecoin pool...whatever floats your boat
3306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: December 25, 2017, 12:47:51 PM
I got off of Verge for now...hard to mine if your desktop wallet for virge says date undefined after 2 days on the 2 verge in it

(with another 256 heading that way) so I pulled the plug mining the stuff....the paper wallet does not show an address after coin

after 2 days the bitcoin-qt shows no verge 1 coin nor in the prohasing verge explorer search for last 3 days either

thus punting...I might be mining air if their network is that dorked

looks like it is tanking anyway...I wonder how long it will take me for my desktop wallet to synch up 1 week? 1 month?

still, no idea what 'date undefined' means under the 2 coin so far that showed up on the desktop wallet for verge electrim 2.41 (spelling?)

I assume it means it has not synched after 2 days yet

3307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 25, 2017, 12:38:08 PM
yep..nice little tab up on my modified 15 awg wires....but hey it has to be better then replacing KNC Y adapters every 6 months as they blew (really, it was that often
KNC used cheap PCIe sockets on their boards. Switching to all nickel plugs makes a fairly nice difference on the burn rate.

Typical build a thousand dollar cube and save a dime by using a cheap component.....

Yeah, well paying you to solder the proper plugs back in ...or just using the bare pin with the knc Y adapter hack..I went with the hack (then again LTC for all 6 of them

until my most recent one this month was probably 4.15 per LTC ..so it made sense then I guess the above ugly hacks previous to the LTC price pumps)

so anyway..in my case ..likely with the stable platinum server PSU's dual 1260 each or 2520 or so watts if I remember right at 96% eff) along with

the 15 AWG wire and heavy duty plug on the PSU end you feel prudent....I'm just gonna continue with the bare pin mods...but the 15 AWG wire over kill is likely the

part that has allowed them not to go toaster city...in my case anyway...again I think I have at least 6 with this mod..have a buddy with a lot more than that...at

his data hall...none have fried again after this mod and the full Maxumark brackets/gen tarkin firmware/15 AWG wire/better fan/ heatsinks on dc/dc's etc etc etc)

so anyway, what I do (or did) I suppose if anyone out there is reading this with a plug fried...if you got to send it in to lightfoot get a price on the plug replace

on the cube...but again mine burnt..pin hack...and worked after...so no need to send them in....but it is of course as lightfoot says 'at your own risk'

KNC devices being evil and all...MUST DIE SOMEDAY....being purely evil and all thus Lightfoot acts as the devil's advocate and keeps FIXING THEM

and of course...then they don't die..rinse/wash/repeat...as lightfoot yells 'live my creations' on each cube revived.....(evil lair there, let me tell you!)

so I got to draw the line someplace to allow them to brick themselves or we are all lost.....(frigging skynet...the beginning of skynet, I just know it.....)

3308  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 24, 2017, 02:39:59 PM
Ack!

Fricking, Bitcoin Hoard, must have overheard me saying "I wanted to go south for the Winter" ..Immediately, thought I was going to dump the hoard

and my BTC just "went south" instead

damn it, not what I meant! I meant me and some of the BTC would go south and party together

frigging  BTC hoard is miffed....just goes south in a miff....sheesh...

there is a diff between 'going south for the winter' and just "my BTC is going south"

don't laugh, I know you all talk to your BTC hoards as well, you can't-fool me!

(wanders off mumbling about needing more cats if BTC has gone south..what is gonna keep me warm..in this crypto winter)

I'm all for a block size increase to 2mb. I just think that 8mb, as proposed by BCash, is too much, and will create more problems in the future, such as centralized nodes.

Lightning network is just one of many sidechains, and one which will atract institutional investors. I hope that in the future we will have lots of different sidechains, each for a function: one to buy a coffee, one for settlement between banks, one to buy cars, one to buy real estate, and each will have its own limits, and its own fees.

Yeah, kinda wondering how many fiddles the devs of bitcoin core ordered to play while the crypto version of 'Rome Burns' is going on....

I mean, we gonna wait another year for something to scale this beast so the transaction fees are down....they would be better off tossing in the towel and ADD

a hard fork 2mb to 8mb increase, imho..sure would be a mess of work...but damn, would show there was some frigging hope of moving things along

I mean, they just plan act like they don't give a f*ck and the BTC fork folk lie about how much they love us all, as they spam the hell out of the btc network

so my choice is evil that works with low transaction fees (BCH) or idealism that does not work for transactions because they can't get off their ass and make a solution

w/o fretting about it...put a frigging hard fork in place...fix it to work better later with lightning...I mean BCH is as of now 1/3 of BTC's worth..get a clue

3309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$XVG] VERGE [POW][MultiAlgo][BLACKHOLE][Entire Line of TOR/i2P Resources] on: December 24, 2017, 02:32:53 PM
well I got the desktop tor version up with tor www browser for windows 64 with a lot of help from folk

(who I will tip)

as far as confirmations a wallet adress shows 330 confirms

but still shows up UNVERIFIED on the desktop verge wallet

thus I assume that the wallet is not catching up on the blockchain

any way to tell if this wallet is making any progress...I just see the green dot

would like to see what block it is on stuff like that....with my luck it is sitting on block one and hung

I did a paper wallet 2 days ago and a the verge blockchain Qt online wallet today as well as this desktop verge wallet also today

the only thing showing up is the desktop wallet....showing on verge explorer on prohashing as confirmed 330 times

but again showing up as unverified on the actual address with/in my verge desktop tor version windows wallet

(I suppose folk will come back and say it will all synch with/in 5-9 months or some such)

fun times with this wallet stuff

will put actual details on how this works if/when I find out it IS working ...right now ...just stringing me along as a tease...no real proof that

I'm still not on block one on the network on the desktop wallet Smiley

3310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$XVG] VERGE [POW][MultiAlgo][BLACKHOLE][Entire Line of TOR/i2P Resources] on: December 24, 2017, 05:46:18 AM

hey i got the tor browser up...with a friend's help...so that works

then you run the tor browser and the onion labeled download on the main page for tor..that works now also

or at least says to synch

but I can't mine verge if the network public address does not show up as valid

so can someone send me like 1 verge....I'll sent it back...and for your 25c chance on me ..I'll even fill out a bitcointalk trust for you on this exchange

in your profile

if the funds show up..then the addresses are good and i'm set

if not...well I guess I wait 2 -4 days as they say to synch

(don't get me started on how their blockchain download does not work..from what I am doing anyway)

let me know via pm so I can see if the mystical 25c verge coin ever shows in order to bounce it back to you as a test

try these addresses...one is a buddy's wallet

DBGVYgLQS7XPctJQSDbvLgnBymq6CbPcQ8

the other is a wallet address that I set for never expire on the desktop wallet

DPczuYD5j3Su381ABzMsqnq2wYqVXp2hff

if one or both work and take a coin would be great...on above addresses

and I will tip  the first few folk who shoot me something

right now my sucess is the green network lite is ON otherwise still in limbo on if it took or not

thanks

brad

edit : just read it takes 4 days for this to synch FML...again the blockchain download did nothing
unless I'm doing it wrong....let me know how to make sure that is working, I'll tip someone as well

a pain in the ass .I just want to mine this stuff for giggles on PH and need an address i can trust working..does not seem to be the case

The poll was a loonng time ago.  you werent here.  you wont get it :0

Wallets:   i use a few.

Coinomi works pretty good.  (fast and easy)

i had a qt wallet, i slowly moved over to the TOR wallet.

if your using a TOR wallet, you must have a TOR connection.

if you dont, you will have 0 connection.   as it will block you.

end quote

just downloaded the first wallet on their main page...no idea if tor wallet or not?

options?

https://vergecurrency.com/

Again downloaded the windows version 2.41 at the top of the page on the above link

thanks

brad

edit: would prefer a paper wallet but that is a no go as well...

anything you can recommend for options even a web based qt version is welcome

stuck

heck I'm getting no place

1) this thread does not even come up with new posts when I try to quote it comes up as none exist...sheesh..no luck I'm having

2) install the verge wallet from their site for windows the red button never changes to anything does not seem to update

3) made a paper wallet...can't tell if that works or not either ..neither that public address nor the wallet public address shows the addresses

So what, it just looks this way and you let it synch a day or am I missing something?

Kinda hard to mine verge on prohashing if you can't tell if a paper wallet address works or at least an address in the desktop wallet

ideas?

but why the hell this thread will not show up on my new msgs toggle nor anything I try to quote says it does not exist ... I've no clue either

(the verge gods hate me) Sad

have to bookmark this thread just to see the new replies...lol Smiley

Still vaporware as of today.

I"m still waiting for the 'vaporware' video review from 3 weeks ago

also, the crummy review that they have on youtube is a red flag in that it does NOT allow comments

about the vaporware nature of this.

I've seen that trick before on pseudo miners that exist only in the scammer youtube posters mind before

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRCsQUyR7_I

note: always have your re-labelled Bitmain miner backwards to not see the logo on your likely scam product

and disable comments on youtube to warn folk Smiley

though on a side note: to be fair ...they are NOT taking BTC for these units thou...thus that should be a little

encouraging to those who have ordered these...but that is all I got on a positive note on these beasties...

3315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: December 22, 2017, 10:05:55 AM

.................

Just  become a hodler. You will also win more $ besides less taxes.

hard to do when your mining at the level I am...can't afford to not pay elec/data hall etc

month to month

otherwise, I hold ...but ..there's the rub...

3317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 22, 2017, 07:59:44 AM
10) when/if eventually a plug on the cube does fry and melt plastic..lightfoot hates that I say this..but have had no issues on the 1/2 dozen or so units I run using
just the 15 AWG bare plug slide into the pins ..make sure the tab is up...now this MAY be because it is 15awg wire ask lightfoot..that I have no issues..
so yeah, amazing they still work....but jeez.. quite the chore!
Big warning here: If you ever plug the cube in so that the bottom three pins on the PCIe plug go into the top three pins on the socket, or put it in upside-down, the following will happen instantly:

1) The cube will be damaged, all drivers blown.
2) The ribbon cable will burn.
3) The controller will be damaged, needs new FPGA and power chip.
4) Every other cube on that controller will be permanently destroyed with no ability to repair.

Doing the above puts +12 on the ground plane which destroys the hashing chips pretty much instantly. I have seen this happen several times with people, whole miner is gone.

So if you're running on burned connectors always check every plug before powering on. One mistake does it.

yep..nice little tab up on my modified 15 awg wires....but hey it has to be better then replacing KNC Y adapters every 6 months as they blew (really, it was that often

I kid they not) no blown y connectors even on the ones I use to keep the now bare pin cubes working

again 15awg wire seems to help along with no crummy Y adapter in the loop to burn out either

but yeah, you have to check this....I suppose I could put some paint on the tab just to be double sure in the future

3318  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 22, 2017, 07:54:06 AM
the question I have is this

mine LTC....pay my income tax on this...say 25% of what was mined....sell on coinbase....and pay (if less than a year) 40% capital gains tax

but

If I mine LTC and pay income tax on this ...again 25% but xfer the LTC to BTC I am hit with another 40% capital gains because in 2018 it is gonna act like cash

and no like kind?

or did I miss something

(if above is correct now I know why BTC and cypto's are crashing)

in USA

Few people pay tax from there bitcoin holdings. And no it doesn't work that way either.

in usa it works for income tax on mining..... then on your holdings of LTC from when you sell to usd you pay the capital gains on the value your LTC went up....

now they say xfering in usa from LTC to BTC is a taxable event.. no more like kind..crypto to crypto only can do that on  property on this last tax bill here

which means if less than 1 year and a day 40% and crypto to crypto is the same as crypto to cash...a taxable event..you are hit again...

with the 40% capital gains if less than a year etc

thus better to just keep your mining in crypto (not spend it hard to do paying mining bills) so it sits in LTC till I xfer it for $$$

or I in 2018 have to mine for cash ...LTC to USD and then do what I wish with $$$ to crypto afterwards on buys

again, yes it is that f*cked it seems here

by addding a step...like xfer of LTC to BTC to pay for a product ..you are in the taxable event again and 40% due it seems

so confused

Anyway, just an aside for the thread.....serves them right thou Smiley
As another aside I got one of the very first titan's, and pointed it at litecoinpool.org, and I was ranked at #3 on the pool

Now down to #7510  Grin

I got up to #12 at one time...I just make a BIT more money (even with the hassle) on www.prohashing.com

so like the 'gold digger, I am" I left pooler at www.litecoinpool.org the pool is still as backup pool, and went for the $$$....

(I'm such an ASIC slut...sigh)

You got to admit though, they made some pretty good hardware with the Titan. The fact that it's still profitable is quite frankly amazing....

yep, at over now with repastings $100 bucks plus per cube....and gen tarkin software and mods etc below.

1) new fan  per cube ..tossed old one in a box

2) knc heatsink same ...tossed old one in a box

3) replaced fan with 2x the speed at 120% the noise

4) replaced knc heatsink for Maxumark's bracket set that frees the dc/dc's to the airflow

5) got dc/dc copper heatsinks for above 8 heatsinks

6) with the high-speed fan etc and airflow, it is best to clean the boards with alcohol and repaste every 6 months would be ideal
also use better thermal paste (not as much)..and viola

7) you need Gen Tarkin's 3rd party firmware product that does things I have on record as knc saying was impossible, temp shutdown fan shutdown
chip speed adjustments downward for heat...the list goes on and on

Cool I and Maxumark use dual 1280 platinum (new) server PSU's with factory backplate to slide into (with the PSU guts like a regular PSU for voltage protection etc) and
instead of 16 AWG wire and using knc y adapters....use 15 AWG wire and direct plug into the cube...no y adapter weak link...they still brown out eventually but that
may take more than 1 year. We run them as pairs of 2,560 watts and 5 leads.....not an issue .no burn out problems..no PSU problems more than 14 months plus?

9) on probably 3rd if not 4th repaste for all cubes (with cleaning)

10) when/if eventually a plug on the cube does fry and melt plastic..lightfoot hates that I say this..but have had no issues on the 1/2 dozen or so units I run using
just the 15 AWG bare plug slide into the pins ..make sure the tab is up...now this MAY be because it is 15awg wire ask lightfoot..that I have no issues..

11) the damn things are just too 'evil' to die...not sure what kinda Swedish voodoo they did to keep them working this long...but pretty sure baby ASIC's were
