81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Cryptank.com - I need some feedback on: July 31, 2013, 07:10:54 PM
So a couple of months ago I built http://cryptank.com/ .

I haven't really been promoting either aspect of the site, but it's been out there running and seems to be doing OK.

I'd like to ask a couple of people to take a look around and tell me what you think about it. At the moment it needs some cleanup, at least one listed pair has dropped from cryptsy and I haven't explored the new Vircurex API that was supposed to be released this month as I've been busy with other things.

If there is interest in a site like this I'll clean it up and develop it further.

Creating an account is simple and does not require an e-mail or any identifying info at this time.  The additional benefits of the account are tht it allows you to use the chat (no big deal while the site is dead) and also to use a feature called "My Tank" where you can quickly specify up to 20 markets from different exchanges for overview on the same page.

The site also offers an image-based ticker API.  I'm not sure if there really isn't any interest in this as a service, or I've just failed to explain it properly.  I'll explain it a little in a second post.

Needed to bring the site "up to date":

remove any dropped pairs form the current list of markets
update vircurex API (possibly)
add new feeds from crypto-trade and coins-e (at least)

Ideas for expanding the site:

Charts.  I need funding to add charts, whether that comes in the form of donations, partnership, or Huh  The site will need a much larger database capability just to move in this direction.

Exchange independent notifications.  If I can get the site to a "real" server (it's on GoDaddy shared hosting) I can add not only charts but e-mail notifications on market changes.

I've also considered adding a section that consolidates information about all known alt coins, and a news feed or blog, if I could find someone interested in writing for the platform.

Huh I'm very open to suggestions that would make this a useful (and thus used) web site.
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Gascoin-- Public Apology To iGotspots, Gascoin, and the Altcoin Community on: July 31, 2013, 06:54:42 PM
R-E-S-T-E-C-P

lolwut?

This is a proper step forward.

Apologizing and moving forward is a better move than ditching the r3wt name because if anyone found out that your "new" username was you that name would be instantly ruined as well.

If you want to continue re-building bridges you probably need to focus on NAN.  That coin received a tremendous amount of community support and was left to rot while this other stuff was going on. Leaving supporters of your prior work to feel doubly bashed on with the discovery that instead of working to support our mutual efforts you were busy with ... well these other things.

83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multipool and Middlecoin - big profit, even bigger troubles... on: July 31, 2013, 06:38:45 PM
Anyone else want to propose solutions? Go wild with suggestions, this thread is still just brainstorming.

Since we have many coins that have faster difficulty change than bitcoin, but we don't have any coin has slower difficulty change rate,

My Solution:

What if a coin does not change it's difficulty rapidly, maybe every 24 hours.
Is that going to help?

In this way, when the multipool attack the coin, the block finding chance remains constant and every one have equal chance to find a block proportional to their hash rate.

One downside i can say is that, this coin could be more vulnerable to attacks, since difficulty is not adapt to computing environment around it.

So far the better solution is faster diff adjustment, so the diff ramps up and the hoppers get off the coin faster, leaving the actual supporters time to catch more leftovers while it curves down until the rapists arrive again.

I can completely understand the motives behind these pools, but I can't believe anyone has the balls to call it a good thing.  It's 100% pure profiteering with no concern for even the medium term.

Long term there's some valid argument that it's an "evolutionary force" but really what that means is things are getting screwed so bad it's forcing change.  The problem is that the change it's forcing is not desirable.  All coins are being forced to respond along identical lines - which will leave them all identically vulnerable when short-term profiteers sort out the next exploit.

Short term solution: lie to them. Coin Choose depends on third parties to report stats about the coins...

84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM Mining] WARNING "http://www.primecoiner.com" scammers on: July 30, 2013, 11:41:08 PM
If someone is selling a item to be used for a money making enterprise i.e. mining there is a understanding that is implied to the client that this service will make you money NOT COST you money your excuses are all bullshit.

Nobody with a dollar is going to sell it to you for 80 cents.

If someone is selling a service to be used for money making, there is a clear understanding that is implied to the client:

They're going to make more money selling the product to you than they expect to make using it.
85  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CRC] Craftcoin - Portable Minecraft Game Currency w. Economy Plugin on: July 30, 2013, 11:15:06 PM
I would highly advise against downloading the new client for this moment. Justin, I'm glad you are helping, but I think it would be a good idea if before releasing the client, you allow Blindfolded to check it over. If nothing else, to just double check to make sure there aren't any mistakes and that your solution will truely help the situation in the more than immediate future.

+1 for that.

As soon as I can pull this from the official craftcoin repository I'll be happy to move forward with it.

What kind of attack is nano having?  Did it start in the last 12 hours?
91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multipool and Middlecoin - big profit, even bigger troubles... on: July 29, 2013, 11:21:33 AM
We explore the true depths of a zero trust system when the coins have to defend against miners.

Kill the goose indeed.

92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you were to implement a CPU-only coin... on: July 29, 2013, 11:01:11 AM
The solution to resistant mining to current evils (VPS and botnets).. is to have a coin require insane amounts of RAM.. maybe 8-16 gigs just to start with... 32-128 to mine fast

this would put the above to bed.

hook me up if you use this in a coin

This would be VPS Heaven.  How many people do you think have that kind of memory in a desktop or laptop?
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CRC] Craftcoin - Portable Minecraft Game Currency w. Economy Plugin on: July 29, 2013, 10:56:03 AM
If you go to Help -> Debug Window you'll see a line about "Current Number of Blocks". If the value next to that is >9323 then you're probably synced up. When blockchains get stalled or are otherwise not functioning quite as intended the client will often not be able to tell whether it's properly synced or not.

Ok 9232 is what they're all at. I just wanted to make sure that i's a messaging/status issue and not some blocks floating around that the client won't sync.
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] GAS Coin is now dead. r3wt snuck in a premine and scammed the community on: July 29, 2013, 05:57:14 AM
Not entirely sure why this thread is here since there is another in scam accusation, so this thread may be removed once people migrate to the other here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=263994.0

Also, going to also put this here since people haven't yet realized to move there yet.

Arguing with him is dragging you both down.

By his own admission he agreed to a clean genesis and delivered it premined, enough said.

Forum staff, if this isn't a clear cut call for a scammer tag, what is?

Of course I have been watching the entire thing since it was in Alt Currencies. First off, Staff cannot give scammer tags, it has to be an admin just to clarify. Second, in order for r3wt to get the scammer tag there has to be a few things. (I'm sure I'm missing all sorts of criteria and conditions and such, but I'll make it short and sweet)

1) Loss of value/property etc, so yeah by ruining the coin which he was paid .4 BTC to make, I suppose there was a loss of value
2) No attempt at remedying the situation.

ok, i was wrong to have done it without asking you're right. i just didn't want to admit that i would need some help getting the network ready. its also why i was late. we wanted the hashrate to be high enough to keep the coin from getting destroyed on launch. i still don't think it makes me a scammer for doing that though. i see where i was wrong, i just didn't want to admit it before, but to call me a scammer after i slaved all weekend to meet the deadline.

my whole issue was the way he turned on me and trashed me in the thread. thats very unproffesional.

r3wt did admit their wrong here, and it looks like once you two are done with the hurt feelings and flinging mud, you can probably work something out. I would try that before going for the scammer tag, it would save a whole lot of time for both and you could settle it. Also a "SCAMMER" in red letters next to someones name doesn't really get your BTC/Coin back, so its best to try and work something out first. If r3wt isn't willing to negotiate something, you would probably have more grounds for the scammer tag, but of course all of the evidence hasn't been piled yet, so maybe or maybe not.

TLDR: I would advise skipping the hours of compiling information to build your cases and going back and forth at each other, and try to work out a deal, *Cough cough* perhaps wiping the chain and starting fresh, refund, donating the premined coins to go to bounties, I'm sure you guys can figure something out.

Oh, and just as a P.S

its easy to cherry pick little parts of my message. one blaring omission from your less than word for word quote of my statement was that i used the premine to get some people to help me. i'm not gonna repeat my self any longer. the mods have access to the pm's, i'll let them settle it. enjoy life with your head up the ass of GasCoin and iGotSpots.

No, moderators cannot check your PMs, Theymos can get access to PMs, and you can report a PM which will then go to a Global Moderator. I've seen this a few times, and just wanted to clear that up, so as much as I'd love to read your weekend plans that you set up with your buddies via PM, Moderators can't.

I'm just saying, you two could just figure something out, and it would all be settled before anymore damage to reputation would be done.

Thanks for the update, just want to point out that I wasn't involved, and have only made three posts on the matter.  I think this thread is here because it's the original launch thread for the coin, and now the announcement of it's death.

No implication about you salty from where I'm at admin are staff. It seems the rules are clear, I don't know if there's any time frame for reparations. I wouldn't expect anyone to throw out a scammer tag in the first few hours anyways.  But so far r3wt's posts have been pretty clear on the matter. He's not denying it and said at least once there's no way he's paying it back.

I assume, that once a reasonable time period has passed without him paying - the tag will be a given in a case where he's clearly admitted to what he did.

If he pays it back, well we all talk a little shit around here now and then, right? Wink

Each of us is entitled to our business decisions, and how they affect our future.

95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] GAS Coin is now dead. r3wt snuck in a premine and scammed the community on: July 29, 2013, 05:23:46 AM
it should be as simple as this, either do it yourself, get a secure team together to make the coin and test it before release e.g. get other people to check the source or be a stingy tramp and get it done on the cheap and put up with whatever shit comes your way, as simple as that. gascoin was never going to work out to be ANYTHING. why? because the dev couldnt even sort out the basics required to creating and maintaining a coin, so getting it out there is mission impossible

Lots of lessons to be learned in this thread.

fuck you coinerd you blatantly spread bullshit. i'm not abandoning NAN at all. i'm debugging the new client as we speak.

The network is dead and you told me today you haven't even been running a node.  No bullshit. I tried to ask you if you were dumping it or not but you vanished. But the fact is...

It's not going to matter to me about NAN any more.  This is bad business. I won't be supporting any product that I know you are involved with from this point forward.

Hmmm, and I was expecting the crazy.

This is better than trying to remember all the names for fractional coins on the BTC wiki lmao.

Myself and my 6 peers are all stuck at two days ago.

Does anyone have a good node?

The lotto, everything...

You can always connect to the node at crc.cryptocoinexplorer.com.

addnode=50.116.22.43

Thanks for the hookup, you're hung on the same block.

I know the chain is diff locked but the client won't say "synced".  Is this just because it expects something closer to target block time, or does anyone have any idea how that works?

For now I'll assume I'm as "up to date" as it gets.
