TESTING- Submersing paper wallets printed on water proof papers

  So I printed two bitcoin qr codes, pub and private and of course loaded them with $40 in BTC.

What does "518124" mean under the Stone paper wallet key? Is it a bip38 passphrase?

  Lol ..no ..if it was the BTC on it would've been swept.

   It's the date I placed in water 8th May 2024. 5/8/24

I have tested this in extreme conditions in the Caribbean. After submerged in salt water for 1 year in the heat and sand, the hologram color was boiled off but the plastic was still intact. It protected the keys and yes the keys are still readable. I could claim flood resistance for up to 1 year in extreme conditions, but collectability is destroyed. Keys still readable. A Caribbean Treasures 2023 Brass 10,000 Satoshi piece was the test coin.

This was more what I was thinking.

Yes, in the home for your seed / private keys steel / titanium seed plates are the best.

I have always had the niggling feeling in the back of my head, how will these coins with keys make out.

Personally, for a bunch of reasons I am shrinking my collection, but I still love the collectables. And I don't think any of us want to hear 'After my house was destroyed I managed to recover my collectables but I could not get read a bunch of keys'  I admit it's an extreme edge case, but in the scheme of things the additional cost to someone making a coin to use the better papers is minimal.

I believe I may have been able to solve the flooding and fire issue for physical bitcoins while still being able to use monetary / precious metals. This will also prevent engraved keys indents in holos from being read and or inferred imaging. A prototype will be made later this year and released next year for a small nation. These will be a better option than just holding them on other electronic hardware / plastic.

  I think they are all solid. The one that I use for my paper wallets is TerraSlate.

Wow, I've got to say krogoth that I am very impressed! I remember seeing this post years ago and I didn't realize that you would have kept up with it for this long! Now if only we can get all the makers to use this waterproof paper, in the event that someone is sailing across the sea and have a small chest of loaded physical bitcoins on it and they ship wreck maybe in 200 or 300 years time in 2225 or 2325 some humans will find them and bitcoin will really be worth a fortune then, eh? Maybe we should do them a favor and just throw a small chest of these in the sea loaded with small amounts so that somebody can find the shipwreck treasure of a life time one day . Isn't that quite the thought to think of? Kind of gives me goose bumps. People find shipwreck coins from the spanish still today but imagine finding something like that way into the future and seeing what the value is? Would bitcoin even be around then?? I imagine it would perhaps be replaced with something else by that time who knows

IIRC, you are not using an inkjet printer, but a laser printer. An inkjet printer typical uses a water-based ink that is not absorbed by the paper.

Note that TerraSlate is not compatible with inkjet printers as water-based ink does not adhere well to waterproof paper.

So true...i tried inkjet and nothing really printed..so it would be very obvious inkjet would not be compatable. Laserprint is the way I am testing...but thanks for highlighting that fact.
