New Democracy is trying to convince people that they're going to do their best for stability. Stability is something that many Greeks care about at this point, It's the second election of the year and it comes after e referendum that was deemed as pointless by many. While Syriza received a lot of popularity during the first election of the year, people started loosing their confidence and didn't stay with the party. A recent poll showed that Tsipras is ahead of Meimarakis by about 1% when asking people about who's more suitable to become prime minister. Tsipras had reached 70% at some point so the decline is obvious.

I am surprised that Tsipras is still commanding that sort of support. He double-crossed the Greek people, despite the fact that the latter voted overwhelmingly against the bailout terms being set by the troika. But that said, I have to agree that Tsipras seems less demonic, when compared to the pro-oligarch moron Vangelis Meimarakis.

Just like Ebola etc. Next will be the Syria thing, after a couple of weeks we'll forget. Well now elections are up if the New Democracy party wins then I see a grexit in a few years time and total collapse of the economy unless those big sharks that took out 250 billion euros bring it back into the country and start investing again.

The ironic thing not acknowledged is if Greece exits the Euro and so effectively defaults on their debt, it would be a positive for the economy.   Bad for the lenders, bad for government which cant borrow to spend or even finance itself.
Good for the ongoing economy which for exports, for holidays would become incredibly cheap.  Every worker in the country would be earning less but also this is a stimulant to all business which must pay their wages.    We may not like being paid less but no singular view can be taken on an economy, for every loser there is some who gain. Overall a 'grexit' is positive for purely Greek business and they do have alot to offer still.   It also makes imports expensive, grexit is a negative for europe yes but I think Greece would thrive after a jolt

don't really think it is as bad as people here make it to be. Are you from Greece and are you facing some problems personally due to the shortcomings of your government? I go to Greece so often and there has been no macro changes, people are still the same, places are still so beautiful and the food is still as delicious as it used to be. So I guess rant time is over?

Greece must change and unemployment would be the most apparent problems.  Change is normal as new workers start but Greece is more stagnant which is not normal or healthy.   The schedule for their debt is decades which means entire generations shut down or they must all migrate

Yeah it's unfair that they got all the bad press, and now most mainstream media is not informing on the fact they are getting tons of refugees on their really bad economic situation. It's the most rich countries that should be getting the refugees not the most fucked ones. Coming soon I think Spain is going to get some of them too and their economic situation is similar to Greece in the future if im not mistaken.

I don't agree that Tsipras double crossed the Greek people..The Greeks wanted no austerity but they wanted to stay in the Euro and the EU..He had his hands tied..If the Greeks wanted to get out of the Eurozone and the Euro and go back to the Drachma they should have said so before the January elections.. You can't have it both ways, no austerity and reforms in the public sector and the political corruption and massive tax evasion, yet it's o.k to get a sh*t load of money from the EU..At least he negotiated a way out for Greece by debt restructuring..no other govt before even bothered to say the debt wasn't sustainable..He tried everything he could but you can't please everyone.. Why didn't Lafazainis and his gang oppose signing the deal with Europe before they decided to bail on SYRIZA? Come on no one wanted a leftist government to reign in Greece since the end of the 2nd world war and I bet Lafazanis and his Cronies are serving other agendas.. Don't know if double cross is the right term. But Syriza promised no austerity and staying in the euro. Of course people voted for them. Greeks wanted both things. But I don't know if it is fair to say they prefer austerity over leaving the euro. I would guess they don't and the referendum result may point to that. So it looks to me that Tsipras tied his own hands. They should have been ready to leave the euro if they couldn't get a good deal.

Why didn't Lafazainis and his gang oppose signing the deal with Europe before they decided to bail on SYRIZA?

How long did they have to prepare for it? Maybe less than a day from when the deal was presented and they had to read proposals that affected the entire economy and discuss and vote on it? It's impossible, and the tight deadline was set up on purpose.

Well when you hear their local mid size level IT business that gross six figures to employ people, then all of a sudden lay people off.

I don't agree that Tsipras double crossed the Greek people..

Tsipras had persecuted the Greeks. In six months the economy of Greece is gone like 5 years in economy and all the achievements arrived in 5 years of sacrifices were made dust. Tsipras is a pure demagogue which want the power and pretend ostensibly the defense of the poor classes of Greece. Maybe this second thing is true is his understanding of the things but the way he followed to help them was a disaster. Let's remember here the long lines in front of ATM and the death of a retire person because of this reason. Let's remember the 5 years back in economy and let's remember that in the end he accepted more than he didn't agreed before the referendum. The conclusion. With Tsipras Greece made steps back. Even with the wonderful words he told in every its speech in every place he was.

We have €448m to the International Monetary Fund is due this Thursday (April 9th).

Then we have public sector wages and pensions, €1.7b in social security payments made by the state (April 14th).

Then we have a €200m loan repayment to the IMF (May 1st).

Now correct me if I am wrong, but if Greece cant pay any of these 3 bills we are talking about the first "western modern" country to be technically in default. If they resort back to the Drachma, it will be one of the most worthless currencies on the planet.

What I cant really figure out is the outcome, both worldwide financially against the Euro, and obviously against Bitcoin. Will we see BTC as safe heaven? Something tells me only a little, because the average Greek is not highly IT literate, but I could be wrong here.
