It doesn't seem like a very good idea to ignore too many people IMHO. You would run the risk of repeating something that someone else posted in the same thread which is generally frowned upon. Other users would have no way of knowing whether you did it to boost your post count or if you genuinely couldn't see their (the ignored user's) response since ignore lists aren't publicly viewable.

And it's not nice -- that's worse  Sad

Only meanies with no sense of humor ignore people, I feel you Blind. Biz you say how you shouldn't have to many people ignored because you run the risk of repeating something someone else has already said! If you look at every thread on this forum and I mean every thread, you will see people must do a lot of frowning because it is all repeated sometimes with different wording but still repeating like a parrot on every thread.

"Too many people", gratifies a personal opinion (in this case yours) against my initiative to post my ignore list in the public. Yes, the specific risk is there but it's an acceptable one; it's a common phrase: "don't quote the trolls". Other users? I don't follow. You mean provocable ones? Someone would've say the same for everybody with an ad campaign undersigned his posts. The point is that (and let me bold it, because it's the 3rd or 4th time I'm writing it):

THE LIST IS NOT MANDATORY

You can choose to use it or not, you can choose to ignore the whole pack, or not. You can even choose NOT to be here in the first place. The reason I posted it is written in the OP and I'd indulge you to re-read it. Maybe you will find a noble cause there, like so many others did, instead of posting your (IMHO) prejudiced opinion "just to boost your post count" like you said. Besides, you can always say that I began as a troll here (I have been accused of that too). You may as well be right.

Remember: The worst enemies of smoking are the ones who once were smokers.

Cheers.

The worse part is when you try reading a long thread to get some info about the price and all you get is irritating pictures of any kind of abnormality the human brain has ever came up with, instead of the info you want. This noise to signal ratio since NLC (don't fool ourselves, the list is all about him and his sockpuppets) came along has been boosted to enormous levels.

Like I said, you can accuse me of anything and I will gladly take it (meanie, no sense of humor, etc). You can also help make this list better. You can also read my replies in this thread, many of your questions might as well been answered. Also remember: This list wouldn't be  here if it wasn't necessary. But that means you wouldn't be able to post here as well... think about it. Wink

Someone would've say the same for everybody with an ad campaign undersigned his posts. The point is that (and let me bold it, because it's the 3rd or 4th time I'm writing it):

To clarify, I was thinking along the lines of a situation where someone might post a question and some of the replies are from ignored users (possibly mixed in with non-ignored users). If I wanted to answer the thread starter's question and I had a large ignore list, I could either choose to submit an answer with the risk that others might think that I am parroting what has already been said (which I'm sure most people wouldn't think too positively of) or read the ignored users' posts which kind of defeats the purpose of having an ignore list. It's not a huge problem if most of my list consisted of trolls since they're not likely to contribute intelligently to discussions but a much more comprehensive list that encompasses a wider variety of users could eventually cause problems.

I don't recognize any of the names in your list and it isn't very long so it's probably fine. DannyHamilton's list goes a bit too far in my opinion since it includes posters like redsn0w, bryant.coleman, and Muhammid Zakir who tend to make highly constructive posts and are an integral part of this community.

The "parroting" is mostly done by those with a signature ad.

This is why I keep a strict list instead of a more wide one. I've often been accused that this is a "bear" list. I can assure you; it's not. The main problem with adding a person that:

a. Has a newbie account
b. Posts vague and/or irrelevant things
c. Kills his time

against a known sockpuppet account, is that's not always clear. As I've stated before, I constantly update this list and move people out of it if they follow my 3 over 3 rule (ie: 3 out of 3 posts are not trolling). It's not THE golden rule, but surely kicks some people like BlindMayorBitcorn out of this list as he posted constructively for 3 times in a row, no matter if he was rude and offended me in one of his previous ones.

Being provocative in a public forum is not tolerable. It feels safe, but it's not noble, nor sane. If you want to be provocative and offensive to someone, IMHO you should have the guts to look him in the eye when you do it and not from your couch comfort, behind a screen and a keyboard. Again, I'm not claiming the infallible. I know that someone can do this job better than me. If you're that specific someone, please make it happen and I will blindly follow.

As a side note, I'd judge your comment of the chance missing some post as a collateral damage. Nevertheless, if that poster follows my 3-3 rule he will be probably out of the list sooner than that happens.

Cheers.

There's a very specific modus operandi. It usually becomes clear that it's the same person within a post or two. They use the same graphics, tactics and phraseology almost every time without fail.

With good judgement. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's less obvious. The majority of the time you won't know. From my perspective there is nothing with alternate accounts. It gives people the freedom to give an opinion or view from a identity that isn't their 'main'. The accounts which are malcious are the ones that give themselves trust, spam etc.

Whoever posts on an alternative account regular normally slips up eventually. You'll see blatent obvious ones which speak the same and use the same vocabulary and structure.

What is your stance in regards to bought accounts? Although some are decent, most of them deserve to be on the ignore list.
They often write up nonsense, mostly because of being in a signature campaign.

Update: I was asking if they go on the list as well?

Thanks for your question. I don't have anything against a poster that is using a bought account in order to make some money, as long as he is not offensive or provocative to others.

I agree with you afaic the non-constructive posts of many posters but (thankfully) It's not my job to test their posts for quality. That's the job of the man/woman who runs the campaign.

Most of the serious campaigns here check their posters for constructive comments. If they don't comply they simply don't get paid. I bet that when this behavior becomes the new standard, we will have nothing to hold against a person who has an undersigned campaign under his posts.
