We've updated our tag from BITS to XSEED, thanks for the info.

Thank you for updating it.
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Thanks. Result of a lot of practice!

Today we have 3 videos - the Mac and the Windows versions of installing the wallet. The Mac version is split in two parts to show an extra step some OS X users will need to take because the app didn't get published through the Mac App Store.

Playlist with all of the course videos so far is here:

So how difficult is it to switch my sha-256 asic chips from mining Bitcoin to mining XSEED?

What exactly do I need to download?

It will not be difficult at all.

I don't know what mining software you're using currently, but there is someplace (from the command line or from a form in a web browser, etc.) where you are entering a pool address (URL), a password, and either a bitcoin address or a pool username when you are setting the device to mine.

What you would do is use that same software and run it almost exactly the same way except you would replace those three pieces of info (pool URL, username/payment address, and password) with the correct info for one of our three pools (iSpace.co.uk, wmikrut.com, or miningpools.tk).

So you'd put in the pool address, your miner worker password can be anything you want, and then you either use a username or a payment address depending on the site.

Both miningpools.tk and wmikrut.com are MPOS pools, which means you do not need to create an account with them, but instead you go into the BitSeeds wallet and make a new address under the receive tab and paste that in as the username (worker name) in your mining software.

With iSpace you have to create an account and then you put your BitSeeds address into the website through the My Mining/My Payouts menu and set up how often you want them to send you a payout. Your mining software would then use something like username.1  (literally whatever your username is with a .1 for the first mining device, .2 for the second, etc.).

So the only thing you'd need to download would be the wallet software so you can go to the Receive tab and make a new address to give to whichever pool you use. If you know how to use your mining software it's literally just fill out the info with the details the sites provide on their Getting Started page (ignore any mentions on their site about downloading something; just fill out the info yourself like you've done with Bitcoin pools in the past).

Hope that makes sense.

I will be recording a video tutorial on mining to add to the course videos I'm publishing, so if you get stuck you'll be able to see the steps.  Looks like we'll hit block 8800 and the start of mining before I'm done releasing all of the current course so I'll probably just add it to the number of videos I'm releasing and extend the giveaway by a day.

Today's video lesson shows people the steps to sign up for an account on http://bittrex.com and how to create a BitSeeds deposit address there so they can participate in the giveaway even if they're only on mobile or can't or don't want to run the QT for some other reason.

The crypto video lesson for the fifth day of the giveaway is available now:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-6He-bw6OY

It's a general overview of how to use a cryptocurrency wallet for a non-technical user.

Today is the 6th day of the giveaway and the latest video focuses on the receive tab of the BitSeeds wallet, explaining this part of cryptocurrency wallets for non-technical users. I also take the time in the lesson to go over the steps for copying and pasting since there are really a surprising number of people who don't know this basic computer skill.

Watch the video and follow the steps and anyone can join in on the giveaway by learning exactly how to create a cryptocurrency payment address and then paste it into the comments below the video to be sent 100 BitSeeds.

Pool ready to go at iSpace but just waiting for PoW to restart at block 8800 before activating.

Are we able to start running our miner on your pool or do we have to wait till the block change?

Doesn't look like they'll have it activated until block 8800, but even if they did you'll be basically spinning your wheels until POW kicks in.

BTW, @Marty19 - you should set up a 301 redirect for the page on your site /coindetails/?coin=bits (full URL not included so BCT doesn't link to the page) to redirect it to http://sha256d.ispace.co.uk/coindetails/?coin=xseed -  it looks like when you initially posted the page with the old currency symbol it was indexed by search engines and is showing up when searching for BitSeeds.

Redirect it and you'll keep the SEO benefit and you won't have people finding your site by being take to a blank page, which is better for your user experience.

Block 8800 is almost upon us. Just 30 blocks left as I type this!

Remember, everybody needs to be up to date with version 1.2 before this happens. We have created a new thread where we can update the OP. Please use the download links from the GitHub page below, or check the new thread.

Just a heads up - I wanted to see if we'd hit block 8800 and mining commencement, but couldn't get the block explorer at http://explorer.bitseeds.org/ to load... Is that still the location for the explorer?  Thanks!

Thanks, yes there is a new thread since we can't update the OP in this one since it was posted by the original dev.

Mining has been activated but we're working through an issue where work is being rejected for some reason.

Planting trees = Good.

Premining millions of coins under the guise of "I need to control the money so we can plant trees" = bad

You're not understanding the purpose of the custodial funds. They are not to "control" anything, they are to stake funds to generate them for the Rainforest Foundation.  You can verify this on the charity's official site:

lol I'm not going to clutter your main thread, and not going to argue here either, but cmon. The page you linked has a beautiful picture at top. But the text below reminds me of 3 card monte where the guy is moving his hands real fast and you are trying to figure out where a particular card is.

Well, I don't really get the comparison, but appreciate your feedback.

I'm not 100% sure who at the RF wrote the text, but I don't think it's probably written by a very tech minded person. So maybe that in conjunction with what seems to be an assumption on your part that if a block of funds is allocated to a specific purpose that the purpose must automatically be sinister is what is leading you to that comparison. I think it's Alexandria who does the website updates there so I can get in touch with her and maybe see if we can talk it over and help her clarify the explanation if you think it's lacking.

Anyway, the funds are for staking only and are never to go on the market. The majority of the staked funds go to the Rainforest Foundation annually, giving them a pool of new BitSeeds each year. When someone donates to the RF they receive a gift card loaded with BitSeeds. That is the purpose of the funds.

We are working with a payment processor called coin.co who will allow participating merchants to accept BitSeeds as a payment method beginning this summer. 1.5% of each transaction will be a charitable donation to the Rainforest Foundation and the merchants will get a tax write off as an added incentive to adopt BitSeeds as a payment method over the standard fee savings any crypto offers merchants compared to credit and debit card fees.

The idea is that this should create an incentive for people to donate more often or in larger amounts since they don't just get the satisfaction of donating to a worthy cause, but also get something useful in return rather than a more conventional item most charities give in return for donations such as a t-shirt or mug or whatever. Donors can then either stake their own coins or spend them at a participating merchant.

The Rainforest Foundation has an international reach and recognition as well as the support of celebrities and other influential donors who care about environmental causes. One of the reasons I got involved in the project was because the cause of the Foundation is one that resonates with me personally, but also because I think the average person doesn't have any interest in stuff like cryptocurrency and they need an incentive to become interested.

This project has potential more than most others to reach a broader audience by working with the Foundation and people who might otherwise be dismissive or unaware of Bitcoin or other cryptos by the fact that it's designed to help a cause they care about. The more it's used the more it helps the Rainforest Foundation. This creates a cycle of economic activity and helps add value to the network that is difficult to generate in most cryptos that don't have much of a specific purpose.

Anyway, hope that makes more sense to you. If you've got other questions, feel free to ask them and I'm happy to answer them to the best of my ability.
