What is PoM?

PoM - Proof of Mining; in simple,  the magi team rewards commensurate coins to every participant in this campaign, in accordance with your CPU hashrate invested into mining XMG.

PoM is also a built-in feature of XMG, thanks to the block reward design (see this link for more information). A detail explanation is shown below:

What is POM ?

Good question; no one was questioning this before, though we're talking "CPU mining | PoS-II | PoM | Unique BLK reward | [MagiPay]". PoM has more meaning (since we're advising 1st PoM) than a single campaign as done before (which was an approach to protect coin distribution): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=802681.0; some details here: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1409.7948v1.pdf

PoM - proof of mining; by it's definition, the more mining efforts being placed, the more rewards one gets. This is typically right in mining any coins, while it's particularly emphasized in Magi (on individuals' participation), because of the design of PoW block reward. A simple description of the block reward is that it decreases with increasing network hashrate, and may hit zero when network hash is significantly high. A consequence of this is big miners get frustrated. If one is familiar with the block reward (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg9991269#msg9991269), you will see block reward could be easily hitting zero. A point here, which was also being argued among people, is who will exit if mining nothing? This is where PoM campaign will be functioning. The campaign will encourage people to keep mining by rewarding despite the amount of block reward. To understand the purpose of the PoM campaign , we can see what happens if we're on the opposite situation - what if generic miners quit first?: 1) big miners keep mining, 2) because of miners quitting, network hash getting low, block reward increasing, and big miners get rewarded more! So now you see PoM campaign is trying to protect the network and to ensure FAIR coin distribution.

To the individuals, PoM means one will receive better rewarding by long term mining. Provided that we, the generic miners, form a solid league, won't give up mining in any situation. One will receive less mining share if big miners are present since they have more hash weight over the rest of miners. It should be noted, however, that coin distribution is pretty much protected by the significantly reduced block reward, as much less coins will be mined in this case. At the time of big miners' leaving, network hash decreasing, not only one gets higher mining share, but also the block reward is high. Then you know why Magi can achieve the FAIRness in coin distribution.

Why PoM?

The XMG's block reward design has to bring the network hashrate into an equilibrium which would never go a very high or low number. Though the equilibrium state is strongly affected by the coin price, it is anticipated that the total hashrate could stay an appropriate level. This is a good feature to avoid huge waste of electricity consumed in the Bitcoin or other Altcoin's network. However, the weakness lies in the fact that one can gain reasonably high hashrate to dominate over the rest of the network. Although this is undesirable feature, we have taken a strategy, i.e., the PoM campaign, to avoid big-hash miners.

In general, people mine for profits, that means miners leave when they are unsatisfied with mining rewards.

The PoM campaign encourages the persistence of generic miners by giving away a certain amount of coins to each participant. So one will receive mining reward plus PoM campaign reward. Even mining gets zero reward, one will receive the benefit from this campaign.

To the XMG network, we will have a fixed number of people mining around to compete the big-hash miners. In normal situation, people would quit after mining something without a reasonable ROI. This is primarily the reason of this campaign, and it is anticipated that the generic miners will maximize their shares.

What does "2nd PoM" mean?
The initial PoM (1st) is launched here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=802681.0.

Duration
About two months.

Participation & Rules
# Each participant has to register along with the bitcointalk username (registration: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gRtkfhMhWx2jAD-p74FakfyjchYNQZuD2A7i0OCitQw/viewform?usp=send_form)
# Each participant will need to mine in our official pool: https://pom.m-hash.com
# Hard rule: your bitcointalk user must be registered before April 17, 2014 10:00 PM (EST) and be active; and you must be a Member.
= If you aren't yet the Member, mange it to this level during the campaign.
= If you are new to this world and just registered (so after April 17), please send us message.
= If you don't like to use bitcointalk and have no plan to register a name, please email us: pom.m.hash@gmail.com.
# You muse mine with your CPU and total hashrate not exceeding 250 kh/s.

Pool rule
https://pom.m-hash.com is our official pool (created and managed by Historical) designed for PoM; mining hashrate higher than 250 kh/s is not allowed. Warning will be giving to people who put miners exceeding 250 kh/s, followed by account locking and worker removal if hashrate is not depressing upon warning.

Reward
We have a certain amount of pre-set funds available at this time, and intend to get more funds. The funds will be distributed into all of the participants. The following will affect the amount of coins one will receive.
# The number of participants;
# The reward will be proportional to 1) hashrate (up to 250 kh/s) 2) mining duration

(we will make sure the method of how-to-calculate soon)

PoM Funds
Funds raised up by donations (to be listed); total funds: 23,088.0 XMG
All further donations will be added up to the funds:

Oh hoorah!  It's a sign, because today I got around to remounting my water-cooler.  Had a miserable pint-sized thing making do for a while but now, now baby can stretch those legs.

Obviously, count me in.  Logged in and cranking.

It's good to be back.

Awesome!
Just got back and I see PoM ^2 has started!  Cool

Just one little problem - my BCT username is th3.r00t,
which cannot be used for registering in the PoM pool...

I used underscore instead (th3_r00t), hope that this does not break the campaign rules.

i don't have too much power, i really need to do something about the cooling system in my i5 before been able to go higher,
but with the help of the "sweet..." software of Spexx i am able to work it out a bit.

Got something magical in the pipeline to help you avoid overcooking your chip there. Keep watching the main forum thread here.

i do follow it, but you are faster than Magi on releasing new software so i lost it there Tongue at the moment i am using Sweetspot and i love it (i am probably one of the first ones that try the v1.0 a couple of hours ago), but i need to find some time to check out all the other stuff that you post.

It seems that user @Massiveman has slightly exceeded 250 KH/s limit..
Can you @Massiveman please reduce hashrate?

Thanks in advance...

Guess some people never learn...

There are RULES to obey and if not there will be consequences.

Pool rule
Mining hashrate higher than 250 kh/s is not allowed.
Warning will be giving to people who put miners exceeding 250 kh/s, followed by account locking and worker removal if hashrate is not depressing upon warning.

Maybe someone must burn, because it's getting annoying only to warn them.

I don't like to warning peoples who did not read rules...  Huh
Can run about 50 i7 CPUs, which is 3-5 MH/s, but I'm mining with 70-100 KH/s only on one pool.
So, warning is for peoples to give them a chance and time to read rules, and read ideas and principles of Magi block rewarding.
If someone goes slightly over 250 KH/s I think this is small mistake or misunderstanding, but if someone push some MH/s, I will disconnect such user immediately.
Thinking this is fair for everybody...

use spexx miner i found that avx2 miner gives better results on Haswells than Generic but not by much try both and see what works best for you,

It is fair historical, there is some small variations that could be tolerated bc many people run they miners and dont check on them for half a day,
pool reading vary like every other pool in the world and cpu hash can vary, over the last week i tried 60, 90, 110, 150, 170, 190, 220 and i tried 250 khash and with 250 i got reading on pool +- 30 khs (this is peak variation @250 khash and dont last for long) but mostly +-20 khs from actual khs i see in miner, so someone who mine at 250 could have readings up to 280 khs at some rare point but should also drop below 250 khash minute later etc, but constant hash above limit would be unfair.
So for miners if you want to stay below limit and never have pool readings above 250 mine with 220 khash you wont see big difference in what you mine per day and you will mine anyway atleast 5 times more now than few days back before PoM started, you dont have to push 250  Wink.

cheers,poz  Smiley

I downloaded Spexx's miner & set-up batch file as it instructs to do but I'm unable run it. I'm only getting " stratum authentication failed .. trying in 10s"

But Senior member status is really an absurdly high requirement!

Hi!

I have registered for the campaign, mining with my Intel Atom with 7kh/s.

But Senior member status is really an absurdly high requirement!
Junior Member should be sufficient.

"Participation & Rules
# Each participant has to register along with the bitcointalk username (registration will be open on Apr. 19)
= If you don't like to use bitcointalk and have no plan to register a name, please email us: coinmagicorp@gmail.com.
# You muse mine with your CPU and total hashrate not exceeding 250 kh/s.

I am sorry for a mistake here; the bitcointalk user membership would be Member. Addition to the membership, you can contact us. The rule made is to avoid multiple registration from the same person. We do need solid hashrate, but we also need our funds being distributed into more hands."

Hi!

I have registered for the campaign, mining with my Intel Atom with 7kh/s.

But Senior member status is really an absurdly high requirement!
Junior Member should be sufficient.

I think this was already addressed by prior post. No Sr. is needed, only "Member" (just try to mitigate multiple registration); even Bitcointalk username is unnecessary. Please contact us if you hate to meet the membership requirement: pom.m.hash@gmail.com

No deadline for joining PoM, but earlier participants will have the greater reward than the later.

I am sorry for a mistake here; the bitcointalk user membership would be Member. Addition to the membership, you can contact us. The rule made is to avoid multiple registration from the same person. We do need solid hashrate, but we also need our funds being distributed into more hands."

Ok great so I need either 22 more Activity points or contact you.

Ah good man, how much you sitting on? if you don't mind me asking Tongue

I don't mind you asking Wink

Change of perspective, what would be in your opinion a good amount to sit on? (The bigger the better is not a valid answer)
10.000?
100.000?

I'd not mind to be on the 10.000 level, alas I'm actually 10 times less.

PS: I was taking a look at the PoM pool, I guess someone still have problems with the 250 kH/s thing...
Edited the name cause I don't like witch-hunts

Yes, that was me Smiley But as stated already, that is fluctuation.
Look at the left column with the number of submitted shares. I barely submitted more shares than the no.2 in the list and he is rated at 210 Khash.

...Or is it?

Please stop playing stupid!

Hashrate fluctuation, Overclock, The air temperature, The wheather...
Just excuses, when we all see that some people like you and shoggot
simply doesn't obey the rules, overhash and playing everyone for stupid...

I agree. It's getting so anoying.

Can you two guys show us yours graph of last 24 hours?!

Another lame excuse?

There is http://poolinfo.coinmagi.org/ with 5 pools that doesn't limit their hashrate.
But you chose to test your another miner at PoM pool?

And by the way - you are still above the target hashrate!
Or for you 250kh means 290kh?

as far as i can understand the 250 is just a number and that depends on how many users that are mining. I didnt realize that there was som kind of Magi police that attacks everyone that doesnt follow these unofficial rules. It all depends on the total hashrate for the network so one must use that and since it is at 45000 we should loose about 5000 in total to get the mining to a maximum. If there are 45000 users mining we should all just use 1khs per person right? My dashboard says 174 reight now but it was 230 a minute ago.

The rules are OFFICIAL
# You muse mine with your CPU and total hashrate not exceeding 250 kh/s.

It is written in the first page of this thread! And it's still not clear for you...

And it was decided from the weeks before PoM start, what will be the max hashrate, based on the block reward, energy consumption and the campaign goals.
If you don't like that number, you could say so in the thread if you were participating...

If you still dont like to be limited by rules which we follow, feel free to move to another pool, so simple...

Quote

I am almost constantly on the PoM pool for 5 hours and you don't have 230kh low for that time.
Who are you fooling?

Post your "Average Hashrate past 24h" graph if you are sure that you are obeying the rules.

magic, I am sorry if it seems that I'm a litlle harsh, but since the start of PoM we deal with those king of rule breaking almost every day.

It's getting really annoying for someone to make all others fools, because they READ and OBEY the written rules.

I'm will be really sorry if this kind of attitude makes this awesome campaign go to waste...
After all the main idea behind Magi's PoW is to mine smart, no to mine hard...

We have to be aware that the moment-to-moment individual hashrate reported by the pool is inaccurate. There will be times when it shows too much and times when it shows too little. Anyone mining very close to the limit of 250 Kh/s (which is clearly displayed as a rule on the pool Home page) is going to fall foul of this "feature" of the pool statistics. I am only throwing 110 Kh/s at it but at one time this morning the pool reckoned I was throwing 135 Kh/s at it.  I have observed other miners exceeding the limit momentarily too BTW but the very next minute they are well under it. I can be fairly sure in fact that their actual miner output was constant over the time.

The pool statistics shown are not the only source of error either. I have observed differences in the hashrate reported by the minerd when used on different pools, so the hashrate figures you get from the minerd when working on a pool are useless for benchmarking and comparison purposes. You will get a higher or lower average hashrate on one pool than on another. I have known about these differences from the very early days when we only had Noncepool and Suprnova to support us.

I would remind miners that the other five pools are still open and if you have hashrate to spare, then please direct it at the smaller pools in need of support. These would be XMGpool and Maxminers right this minute.

If there is anybody not convinced about the need to limit hashrates, please have a look at some quick figures I posted here.

Not sure why, but I can't seem to connect to the pool.  I just get "retry in 30 seconds..."

I've tried using Wolf's cpu miner, as well as Spexx's. I made an account on the pool, and tried using the info here: http://pom.m-hash.com/index.php?page=gettingstarted

Here's my config:
Code:
C:\Miners\wolf-m7m-cpuminer-V2-x64-0204\minerd-x64-avx-i.exe -a m7mhash -o stratum+tcp://mining.m-hash.com:3334 -u santasnotreal.CPU -p derpy -t 11

Any hints why I can't connect? Thanks!

Hey, I'd like to ask a question.
I'm in the PoM campaign already, but now I have to have some downtime for maintentance. My CPU started to get hot, (over 90C) I'll have to shut down for a couple of hours. Does this influence my participation in the campaign or not?
I have already stopped the miner but the CPU doesn't want to go under 50C. Therefore I must shut down because it's a serious anomaly.

Ok, thanks. As you can see I'm already back online. CPUTIN sensor 50C at peak load, Core sensors stable 40C at peak load. Idle is 20C with this big hunk of aluminum.
Something clogged the heatsink and lint buildup on the fan didn't allow full RPM so there was no airflow. New thermal paste, dust blown out, all done in one hour. Ninja fix Smiley

Dang!

I knew there was a reason why I put "Caution - this software makes your CPU run hot - please make sure your CPU heatsink and cooling fan are clean and free of dust" in the startup header for my miner software.

I could not, for the life of me, remember why I put that there Cheesy

Edit: If you did not use Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra, you did it wrong Wink

Is possible mine with my Server at home?

That should be possible. Remember the overall limit of 250 Kh/s on the POM pool though. If you are likely to exceed this figure, you should consider directing the "spare" hashpower at one of the other pools.

I used something with similar consistency. CoolerMaster V1 IC Value which can get the job done. Still better than the pre applied grease that has been on it since I bought the chip. I think I'll stick to it because the syringe is almost full. I like the 'El cheapo' stuff, lol
For this chip these current readings are excellent; AMD CPUs are usually way hotter at full load. Now the cores are only 36C thanks to the cool weather and the heavy heatsink. It's almost 500 grams in thermal mass so that's the main reason why it didn't pop with no airflow.
I'm pretty sure it would have emitted a colorful cloud of happiness with the stock heatsink which is way smaller...

Nice big lump there.

I used to use cheap brake pad grease as thermal compound - great stuff actually since it contains copper particles, does not melt and does the job better than most non-electrically-conductive thermal compounds. Then I discovered the liquid metal alloy products and saw some proper benchmark tests as well. A measurable difference and I have used the stuff ever since. You just have to be careful where you put it, since it is a) electrically conductive and b) corrodes Aluminium.

Fun with Gallium

The fact that Coollaboratory Liiquid Pro/Ultra contains mostly Gallium and corrodes Aluminium can be used for a joke. Get a can of fizzy drink, brush a bit of Liquid Pro/Ultra around the seam where the ring-pull is marked out in the cap. Then, quickly shake the can up and leave it right in front of somebody you do not like. It does not take very long for the liquid Gallium alloy to corrode through the seam ...

Cheesy

Hello all Smiley  I am wondering how I can confirm that I am registered correctly for the POM campaign. I have been present as srb in the pool and did fill out the needed form. I did submit the form twice only because I changed my reported speed, but didn't think that would cause an issue and I believe I met all the other criteria.
Anyhow I think Magi is a brilliant design, congratulations and thanks for all the hard work!

Thank you very much for your nice words.

It is getting hot around here - I needed to shut down one of my machines and will probably not be running it much from here on because of the weather and excessive fan noise.  I hope this won't effect my standing in the PoM too much as this will effectively halve my hash rate.  I'll restart it if things cool down a bit more.

111magic when does the PoM II end?

Think it was two months after you registered!
Or it was 2 months after the post from Joe.
In that case it will end on juni 18. But I think Joe needs to confirm wich is the right answer!

A couple questions regarding the PoM campaign. I applied today and saw the previous posts, did I miss the boat? Also is having an average of 26-28 khash/second an acceptable amount? I saw that it said to have 100khash but was wondering if it is still ok for people with a lower hash rate to join, also I wasn't sure what to ask for a reward like it asked so I put that I wanted something reasonable to the rate I could mine with for a reward request.

i already contactet the pool(boy)  Grin

he answered that the magi team is monitoring hashspeed and will adjust the payout after the campaign.

and now you have to think for yourself, is he stealing coins from the rest of the pool, or does the whole pool get more coins because of more hashrate...
if the answer with the monitoring is right, i'll be fine with the situation.

Hello XGM miners, I wanted to put this little tutorial for cloud mining XGM, it can help new miners looking for info on this campaign.

Today I registered with http://www.softlayer.com/ they are offering
USD$500 to try the service using the code 500BUILD: "http://www.softlayer.com/info/five-hundred?utm_source=adroll&utm_medium=remarketing_banner&utm_content=500BUILD+336x280+JPEG&utm_campaign=adroll_south_america_high_intent", for that money you can put to work 12-16 cores for a month  Wink depending on your configuration.

This method also works with Azure, Google Cloud (free trials) and AWS Free Tier.

I selected an linux-ubuntu machine and installed CPUMINER.

The following is an example of the steps needed to mine MAGI (XGM), you can mine others coins just by changing the .git for the right one for your coin:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install git screen automake build-essential libboost-all-dev libdb5.1-dev libdb5.1++-dev libminiupnpc-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libgmp-dev

git clone https://github.com/wolf9466/wolf-m7m-cpuminer.git

cd wolf-m7magi-cpuminer-v2
./autogen.sh
CFLAGS="-O3" ./configure
make
sudo cp minerd /usr/local/bin

then you can put a background process by calling:
nohup minerd -a m7mhash -s 4 -o stratum+tcp://mining.m-hash.com:3334 -u yourusername.yourworker -p yourpassword &

Hello again, I'm a participant right from the start. I will have some downtime due to migration next week (new country, new life). The expected downtime will be a couple of days. Will I be still eligible to continue where I left off?
Yes amigo! You shared the reason so you are very welcome again! Magi team has some people on holidays also! Including myself! Grin
Hello again, I'm back (yay!)
It's been a little more than a few days b/c my system SSD failed and I had to work a lot before I could afford to buy a new one. Anyway, my miner is up and running again. My next PC build will have a raid array to avoid data loss for sure!

Greetings all!

New to all of this and mining with CPU (I7-3630qm) Not for profit, but for learning and just the heck of it :-)

I am also confused about the whole max-hashrate claim.

My rate is somewhere around 50 Khash/s

But I see several miners with hasrates above 250 Khash/s

I mine on pom.m-hash.com

Not sure how to post a screendump but as of right now there are 9 miners with too high hashrate.

So what gives? :-)

Prompt, on a pool pom.m-hash.com:
Statistics -> Pool -> Contributor Hashrates -> column XMG / Day
This value is deceptive and greatly overstated.
Shows: 100KH / s = 7 XMG / Day
Reality: 100KH / s = less than 1 XMG / Day

Why? Huh

Hello all,

I thought hashrate above 250 KH/s was forbidden?

Ditto, mine is also showing 7+ /day and Im only getting .33/day at the most.

Also, I thought there was a "No speeds faster than 250 kH/s" rule? The top 9 miners are all over that. Doesn't this slow the payouts down?

Yes huge hashrates will lower the blockrewards. Its a mindset change and that takes time before people notice that.

Is there a reason why the rule isn't being enforced then? I mine there exclusively, but I don't own the pool, but that kind of screws the other miners who are following the rules as they are written. Just my .02 (or .054 XMG  Tongue )

Some spike over that occasionally. I typically sit at 200 but have seen mine jump to 350 on occasion but not for very long. There are a couple people though there abusing it intentionally. One guy at 2.5k...

Does anyone know what is going on at pom.m-hash.com? Almost everything I mine this week has being orphaned I was getting 1 some times 2 coin a day and I only got one this week.

I hate to keep asking about this but this is crazy I've minded all week and have not got 1 coin. I normally get 1 sometimes 2 a day everything is going orphaned. I have not changed anything on my end. example current round 7358 share valid 4 Invalid. Go over to translations every blocks tx's are orphaned and 0 earnings.
